[Q] Should i give up? Or continue waiting? - HTC Droid DNA

So unfortunately I didn't know that the DNA had lost its capability of being rooted unto after I Sold my old phone. Should I return my phone and get one tat can be easily rooted or should I stay steady in hopes of a new root method, well s-off. Or if I can should I try to put in a insurance claim and get a DNA that maybe hasn't had an ota update?

Good luck with insurance. Got 2 - new in box not referb - DNAs after much *****ing n threatening to bounce within my 2 weeks. And one from Amazon. No luck. The kernel source will be out eventually. Trust me this will be rooted n s-off. Its time at this point. Our devs rock. Without the source, cracking this is like figuring out what makes potato chips when all you have to go on is a finished product. Sometimes u get lucky

Insurance will send a phone with ota installed. I have also gotten 2. Don't bother with that.

Why not just stage a slip and fall accident at Wal-Mart, file lawsuit for several millions dollars, profit, and buy a new phone (or several).

Or if you're really desperate, just JTAG it. Either yourself (not recommended unless you REALLY know what you're doing) or send it off.

How do u jtag without a riff?

I believe he meant you could buy the riff and do it yourself not recommended if you don't know what you're doing. Not that you can do it virtually.

[Q] Returning relocked rezound?

So i really want to unlock but im worried about it still saying re-locked at the top if i ever have to send it back for any reason just in case. Maybe im just paranoid but i have already had 1 replacement and i don't want to have trouble if i need another. Anyways, my question is has anyone successfully returned a rezound BY MAIL. i dont care about if it worked in a store, i have to send it back by mail. Has anyone done it? If so, post your results
PS. I am not new to rooting, i had a Dinc and loved all the roms for it but you could always get it back S-on if you needed a replacement and there's no way to do that with this one.

Not trolling. I gave you an answer.
"If you give a man a fish, he will eat for a day; if you teach a man to fish, he will eat for a lifetime."
Plus plenty of people have posted their experiences about doing this over the phone. It was all that was talked about the first week we got HTC Dev unlock.

You still have HTC's Warranty, as for Verizon.. A store Visit they won't really bother going as deep as checking the bootloader... A mail in to Verizon they would notice once they try to Debug it before selling it off as Refurbished and sending you another
But DO they check and debug that deeply. Going to a store is really just not an option for me and I don't want to be stuck with a defective phone if I can't get it replaced and its a hardware problem.
EDIT: Also, what does HTC's warentee cover vs. Verizon's?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App
HTC claims they will cover all HW issues NOT related to unlocked bootloaders. Verizon is kinda up in the air. I can say plenty of people have said that they have sent multiple phones back to Verizon while still rooted and s-offed, so not just the rezound and have never been charged.

In all reality it comes down to the individual person at Verizon who checks the phone... Somebody might load up the Bootloader and See "Unlocked" and all hell breaks loose... Or some dude might just ignore it and flash a Factory Locked Bootloader and move on..
As for Warranty IDK.... Check the manuals that came with the phone
So, here's the better question, has anyone here actually been slapped with a fine for returning an unlocked bootloader?

So far as we are aware, noone has. To be honest, as tach said, they might just flash the stock bootloader and go on. Depends on if that employee wants extra work or not.

Is this at the store or at a return center? Not sure of the terminology for the location where a VZW employee would have the opportunity to flash an engineering bootloader.

I don't think they will go that deep and check the bootloader, when my OG droid antenna crapped out on me I brought it in on cyanogenmod and they didn't even notice, the employees in most of the cases don't know squat about the phones and what to do with them

Is there anything stopping people from getting the AT&T warranty, pretend they lost their phone so they can get another one for 200?

So how would that stop someone from actually doing it? If the reason they claim said "lost" phone is due to them dropping and breaking it, they likely aren't gonna want to use the old one anyway. Sounds more like a way to avoid having to pay full retail price for a replacement rather than a way to have two working devices both for the same price.
Cept you could always get a replacement for what was claimed a lost phone, which then "turns up a few weeks later." only way to screw up is leaving on the lost phone while the replacement is on the way.

[Q] S-Off

Guys, is paying $45.00 permanent S-Off worth it?
i would say no, i don't know much about htc devices and the dna is my first one, but i think sometime in the future someone will be able to do it
I wouldn't pay for it. In my opinion, no.
If it wasn't for the ripping apart of the phone then I'd personally pay for it. But since you have to send your phone off and it has to be taken apart than I say its not worth it.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Would it be paying for a program? Or would it be shipping it to someone and having them do something?

Do something. They physically remove the back of your phone and all of the protective plastics on them. They then hook up your emmc (I believe) to a jtag and flash a new software to it. This seems Sketch at best. I wouldnt pay for it, nor would I even consider taking my phone apart. S-off at this point is not that serious. I can flash kernels on the go and I can fastboot whatever else I need.

Ok, gotcha. Definitely not worth it. And you have to pay for shipping on top of that, bumping it up to like $65.

Using JTAG S-OFF Service with 2.04 Firmware

Since I'm impatient I went ahead and pulled the trigger on buying the S-OFF service from Mobile Tech Videos. I currently have 2.04 on my DNA, and it appears that the outlook for S-Off on the new firmware is dark. I will update this thread as the process progresses in case anyone wants to use this same service.
UPDATE: Skip to this post for my review:

Yeah, I'm coming from the galaxy nexus, so I'm having flash withdrawal :silly: Knowing my luck a s-off method will be released the day after I mail it out.
From what I've been reading I don't think that'll happen. Just exit the pit of despair and jtag it.
So I'm about to sound really stupid, but I haven't used a HTC phone in years. Once I have S-OFF, will I need to downgrade to 1.x then root and flash recovery or do I just jump right in? Thanks for the help in advance.
would development for the phone die off though without there being an easy way to s-off? Is my only concern regarding whether the jtag would be worth it or not
I hope it dont die off....just left my gnex and I'm a flashaholic...does the jtag keep Me soff permanent even if ah accept any future up dates ?

good to hear was my only worry. Think I may wait till the end of july to see if anything happens (will be the most convenient time to not have my phone with me) and then go for the jtag if other people have had positive experiences with the service
So I just mailed out my phone. It's flat rate and should get there by friday. Here's hoping everything goes well and maybe getting it back by friday of next week.
On a side note, thanks to those who registered for Copy from my link below. I really appreciate it.

From mobiltech? Can you tell us the condition and round trip time?
Emailed Mobiletech. Asking for a discount for a limited time for us. I know that $45 just is too much to make me send off my phone when i have a perfectly good working phone. If i had a bricked phone, it would be worth it. If we can get a $30 rate, i would do it. That's barely the cost of my case. S-off would be nice since there is no guarantee we will ever get that. We may get root, but would be limited without S-OFF.
my 2 cents.

[Q] Phone Replacement

Ok, so I'm an impatient little bastard and I want to get my phone s-off, but I took the OTA. So, I'm considering "accidentally" dropping my phone in the toilet or bathtub or something, and getting it replaced through the insurance. Here's the only problem: does anyone know if the phone that will come from Asurion will be brand new or "refurbished", and will it already have the OTA preloaded on it, or will it be just a fresh phone with no updates?

ohh damn.... dont do that to the poor phone .... just wait a few days, i sure u will be able to S-off with the new OTA, just give it a few days , this is XDA, everything is possible, but dont do that to your phone man, its a great phone, and dont think u will be getting a new one, THEY ONLY SEND REFURBISHED PHONES... so just keep the one u have...
I'm on the .11 firmware...if I knew more about the intricacies of Android I'd try to find an exploit but as it is, there isn't one and I don't know how long it will be until they find one... otherwise, I do love this phone

i'm not too sure about this. i asked a t-mobile rep on the day i was buying my One about the insurance. he said something about you receiving a one warranty for the software, regardless of what you do with it; but i have no idea about the hardware.
