Hello all,
I've been having a look round on the internet to find a solution to the problem that I'm currently facing with my Galaxy S2,
I recently installed the checkrom OS and darknight firmware, and decided to use clockworkmod to backup the rom and settings, it restarted and then flashed up the start up screen, I.E:
"Samsung
GALAXY S II
GT-I9100"
It wont go any further than this, and if I turn the phone off and on again its stuck on the same screen, it will not go into recovery mode, nor will it go into download mode.
Am I right in thinking that for some unknown reason it failed to reboot into CWM to do a ROM backup and has bricked my phone? In which case will a USB Jigg off of amazon at the very least restore the download mode?
Responses very welcome, as I am a bit buggered without my phone =)
Much thanks
The only way to get past this try and boot into clockwork mod and do a complete wipe and reflash the ROM and don't use any custom kernels use the one that comes with the ROM and that should get ya going and make shure you wipe your dalvik ceche and your battery stats

Anyway, if you can't get into download or recovery mode, yes, it could be worth trying a jig, it can't make it any worse .

Haha thanks, think your probably right, I cant think of any other way to recover the phone if I cant access the Download mode at the very least.
Did you try it through ROM manager

I recently had an issue quite the same -- on the latest MIUI build, with SiyahKernel, I tried to perform a backup using ROM Manager, and it rebooted the device, and then I couldn't get past the Galaxy S II logo. I couldn't access recovery mode either.
My only solution was to put it into download mode, and restore the stock firmware for the device, then re-root, and re-install everything.
I think you might be confusing recovery mode and download mode though... I understand you might not be able to enter recovery mode (volume UP + home + power), but you definitely should still be able to enter download mode (volume DOWN + home + power) -- if not, you're pretty much going to have to take it to a Samsung Service Center, and play dumb if they ask you about custom ROMs, etc.
But I'm very confident that you should still be able to access download mode, try giving it another shot
Remember, volume down.
If you can get into it, find and download your stock ROM, and flash it through Odin (if you need help with finding it or whatever, just PM me?)
As before, if you can't access download mode, a jig won't do anything for you.
screamworks.
Ok, before anyone asks I have checked other threads and posted my problem. However to no avail, as no one has replied.
So, strait to the problem... I recently decided to install an ICS theme for my SG2, i was having problems trying to get into CWM and once I was in (after about 2 hours of googling) I followed the necessary steps to install the Theme.
Once the phone began to re-boot it started the boot loop on the ICS boot screen, so I began searching XDA forums for a solution. The most common was to wipe data and user files then flash an original rom using Odin. I tried this and the phone simply boot looped on the Original SG2 boot animation. I also tried leaving it on the boot loop for up to 10 minutes but nothing happened.
Help ASAP would be awesome thanks in advance,
Sam.
You should always take a backup of your rom before flashing themes and other stuff in case something goes wrong but if u didn't take it. go to cwm and in there, go to advanced, from there mount usb
And put another rom on your sd card and flash it

Thanks for the post, I am new to rooting/ flashing etc, and realised i should have backed up my rom.
I cant seem to get into CWM because when I hold... vol up + Home + Power, I only get put into the Android recovery, not CWM. :/
Is there another way to get into CWM??
Also I might have backed it up, if I did where would it be in the files?

If you can't come into CWM, try to flash with Odin some rom which will give you a root. Lighting rom is one of them for example - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274
Then you should be able to get into CWM and flash other roms you want.
1. Boot into download mode.
2. Flash CF-Root, it does not matter which kernel you pick, just pick one.
3. You have recovery back.
ok, so I've managed to get it into CWM and I've installed Villain rom.
Problem is, it is still boot looping. :/
Any ideas?
Btw Thank you so much for the support so far.

For CWM you need to install CWM if you have then you have overwritten it somehow .
ONE the BOOT LOOP post

THANK YOU
Thanks for all the help guys, I've got it ack to its original state and most importantly stopped the boot loop.
Thanks again,
Sam
used oden to flash CWM. now i cant boot into android, it just keeps kicking me into CWM recovery.
anyone see this? any suggestions? would a wipe fix it?
did you flash a rom if so which one?
no ROMs, simply just tried flashing CWM via Odin
may i ask why 2.3.5?
what were you trying to do?
i am still able to get into Download mode to flash files via Odin, so i dont think all is lost. but, still just stuck in recovery. when i try to reboot it just takes me right back into recovery. i may have flashed an incorrect version of CWM which could be the cause of this problem. if that was the case, any ideas as to how i can get back into a proper boot?

I was trying to flash CWM so i could flash a custom ROM. Had this phone forever and was just looking to try out some ROMs out there.
As long as you odin cwm none of your os is really touched.
try the cwm 4 fixed for cm7. http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...2&d=1311907538
Now when you reboot your device the stock kernel will over right the cwm.
also make sure you put the odin file in the PDA section.
So basically flash the new cwm and try booting into normal that should get you back where you started from. 100% stock.
that link didnt work. tried searching for the thread without any luck
for some reason it truncated the link with a '...' and it thinks that is part of the hyperlink
dl.dropbox.com/u/14764513/cwm4_fixed_for_cm7-ODIN.tar <- cwm 4 fixed for cm7
thanks.. so i flashed this via odin. same problem. i start the phone. the samsung logo comes up. it disappears for a second. then it comes back up and kicks me into recovery.
weird right? any suggestions
ok then what is your endgame?
Now before you said you flashed just the CWM, may i ask why...if you did not intend to flash a rom? were you going to flash a Kernel or obtain root?
Perhaps you should try this
Download this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1278838
It is a custom kernel.
Now Flash CWM with odin
Put battery back in [dont touch power button yet]
Hold down BOTH volume and Power all at once * Dont let go until you see Samsung Logo.
[should still be plugged into pc via usb]
You will boot into CWM
using the volume up and down-Scroll down to Mounts and storage [select it by hitting the power button]
Then scroll to Mout USB storage
~now you should be able to see your SDCard as storage on your PC, put the Kernel some where on your SD Card~
[back on your phone Then Select Unmount
Scroll to ****Go bacK***** [select]
Scroll to install zip from sd card [select]
Select choose zip from sdcard
Navigate to where you have the zip
Select it
Scroll down to Yes-Flash........
Let the phone do its thing!
Good luck!
Your bootlooped...if you can get into cwm wipe all three and flash a rom thats compatible with the version of cwm you have installed. Or odin back to stock and start over...

thanks a bunch guys! happy holidays ill let you know if i succeed
This may sound dumb but
make sure you are NOT hitting "reboot recovery" and you ARE hitting "reboot system now"

Last week I flashed LD3 for my Galaxy S2 i777. Today I was going to flash CM9. Every time I tried to boot into recovery it just started the phone.
I figured I could use mobile odin to flash a new kernel and it would fix it. Like an idiot I used a Gingerbread kernel on my phone running an ICS rom. So of course my phone froze on the "Galaxy S2" screen.
I couldn't boot into recovery and freaked out because I couldn't boot into dl either. I ordered a jig but kept fiddling in the meantime. I found that if I hook my phone to the USB, wait for the battery charging icon, take the battery out, then hold the down button it would boot into dl mode. Then I had to put the battery back in before I clicked continue or else it just reset.
Ok, so got into DL mode. I grabbed the stock rom and kernel from XDA site and flashed them with Odin. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432 (can't post links yet).
The phone starts and setup mode begins. It shows the android figure and says click it. Now all kinds of errors pop up telling me different google services weren't working and force close. When you click the android figure it goes to setup wizard screen but nothing happens (except more android service errors).
Can someone help me out here? I've been at it 5 hours and searched this forum high and low. My thought is there are some ICS elements left behind in there it is trying to load, but I could be way off.
I still can't boot into recovery mode, just DL.

Did you do a full wipe before flashing the stock rom and kernel?
I did not do a full wipe. How can I go about that without logging into recovery? I'm googling that now but if you have linkage I would appreciate it.

dont need to wipe when using Odin/Heimdall.
To OP:
there is only factory recovery, no CWM, you could always just flash a kernal from the DEV section, get CWM, flash CM9.
If I flash another kernel wouldn't I still have the same problem? I'll go ahead and give it a shot. Any you recommend for any reason or other?

So let me get the straight...you're on unrooted stock right now? If that's true, you should:
1. Do a factory reset from settings.
2. Use Odin to flash the Stock with Root package.
3. Use Mobile Odin to flash either Entropy's DD or Siyah.
4. Use CWM to flash what you want after that.

recovery is in kernal. If you flash a kernal from the DEV section you'll get CWM recovery, then you can flash your CM9 that you wanted, after a wipe data/factory reset.

Yes, but if he flashes said kernel with Odin, it'll trip his flash counter. I'm just telling him the safe way to do it, Mobile Odin.
I've already tripped my counter. I have a jig that will be here tomorrow so I can use it to reset the counter.
I can't use mobile odin because I can't log into my phone. I can only use desktop Odin.
All the files I am digging up look like .zip made for cwm. Could someone help guide me towards a kernel I can flash from desktop?

Either Entropy's DD or Siyah. You can open the zip and extract the zimage; the zimage is the kernel.
I just tried using Syiah:

I still get this message:

I can't get past the setup screen.
And I still can't access recovery.

Flash the return to stock package from Odin again. Something must have gone wrong with it the first time.
well thats wierd. Sorry man but are you doing it right?
vol down and power. hold it untill the screen flashes twice.
I flashed stock 3 times now. I couldn't get into recovery before this (manually or with rom manager) and still can't. It starts like its going into recovery then just resets and loads normally.
Down is for dl mode, up is recovery.
I think the lack of ability to boot into recovery and the android service errors may be related.

Forget recovery. You shouldn't be worrying about recovery until after you get your phone booting.
New thought: maybe your download of the stock package is corrupted. Try to download it on your computer again. Download the one with root. If that fixes it, you can go use Mobile Odin to flash the Siyah kernel.
To get into recovery hold down both volume up, volume down, and power button and don't let go until recovery comes up.

I have been using the rooted. The fully stock won't dl. This started because I flashed a gb kernel instead of ics. Maybe I should try flashing an ics kernel instead of stock gb?
Hi,
I have a Galaxy S3 I9300.
I tried to flash a stock rom a couple of days ago and something went wrong.
Now my touch screen doesn't respond, it's the weirdest thing, I guess I flashed a corrupted file with Odin.
Anyway, I couldn't enter recovery mode (the phone kept roobting when I tried), I managed to flash the CWM recovery and now I can enter recovery mode.
I could flash a rom via external SD card, but still no luck, now I have paranoid, but still the only buttons that work are the home and shutdown (physical buttons) the touch screen just doesn't respond...
What can I do ???

If you can get back to recovery now then try download mode too and reflash your countrys/carriers original firmware to what it was before. Then re-root and flash philz recovery and then a custom ROM from the internalSD.

I've tried so many ROM's to repair that I'm not sure regarding which one is the corrupted one...
I'm almost sure it was downloaded from the link in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187081
Before flashing a new ROM boot to recovery and manually wipe cache partition and dalvik and format data/system/cache from mounts and storage. After that the phone wont reboot so pull the battery and put it back in and boot to download mode then flash via Odin. Also try Odin v1.85 too.Ive used both v1.85 and v3.07 and sometimes had issues with the newer one.
try this with a different firmware than the first one you used.

So, I have done what you suggested.
And now, the left bottom 'menu' button work!
it's not a physical button, and It didn't work before.
I know it sound crazy, but this is the situation.
I've tried doing it a few times more, and nada, still the same..
I've tried more roms, but nothing seems to help...
Any ideas anyone ?
Sounds like damage to the hardware from flashing a rom not for this phone .
Good point from JJEgan mate. What was the ROM you flashed to your phone and is your phone an i9300 or i9305?.Maybe another varient..?.Makes a big difference.

I have the international I9300.
All the stock rom's that I tried contained '9300' in their name...
the custom roms that I tried were Paranoid and Cyanogenmod.. I was pretty careful regarding the exact model type.
I think maybe at one time I accidentally plugged out the phone while odin was in the reset stage and didn't get to PASS yet.
Can this explain the symptoms ?
If indeed there is a hardware problem, is it fixable or should I begin grieving ?
Flash stock rom via Odin .
Post at what point it fails .
If you unplug your phone in Odin mode you could kill it.Atleast it was at the end.You said you have formatted and reflashed again and I guess that about all you can do but do it a couple more times with your countrys firmware just to make sure.Keep an eye on the flash bar on Odin an watch to see if anything doesnt flash or skips.
I hope you didn't flash a note 2 rom (i and some other users flashed the kernel of note2 and the digitizer was dead), you can read in one of my posts and I'm sure there are other users. Not so many but still.
