[Q] Other OS

Maybe a very stupid question but is it posible to port any other os to sgs2? Like linux or meego or any other??
It's very much possible to do that. It's only a matter of time before we see that happen.
There are already many phones that are running on ported os. However it may not make it to an Os for daily use.

Very possible as long as theres a driver for each device on that particular OS, probably only iOS cant be ported due to its closed source nature.
well i know about iOS and i would bought an iPhone if i wanted iOS. I got my sgs2 as gift, so i didn't chosed android, and i like android but i do like bit more Metro UI etc WP7 it would be nice if we could p[ort it one day

[Q] Android for Tablet on Nokia N800

i've been wondering if it's possible to make an Android ROM based on Froyo,Gingerbread or Honeycomb for Tablet have it running on a nokia n800? what do i need? if this is possible, nitdroid project has not been active for the n800 port, i have seen some video showing n800s running eclair or even froyo, but this people doesnt responde at all, nitdroid says the n800 port has been stopped and instead n900 port is in the making, i wanna give a try for myself if something can give me some guidance i would appreciate it so much
Thanks so much in advance
BTW
I managed to install nitdroid on my n800,. but we are talking about donut, and is kinda slow , dont have sound at all, and the main objective is to ditch maemo and to have android as primary OS in the tablet, before getting enough money to buy a MMP powered with android, like the samsung galaxy player 50 or some other android device equally small like the n800
Thanks again guys for any help

[REQUEST] Port Firefox OS to YP-G1 [Galaxy Player 4.0]

OK first of all hey everyone.
Lately there has been quite a bit of hype in certain circles about the possiblilty of porting Firefox OS to an android device. This operating system seems pretty light weight and could be perfect for our devices low spec nature. Now I am no good at porting and have no real experience at it... The supplied documentation for porting at Firefox's website goes right over my head.
Would it be possible for any clever person out there to port Firefox to our device???
Anyway thank you for reading this and I hope that it turns out pretty easy for someone to do... If not don't drive yourself mad, I am curious is all
Firefox porting information: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox_OS/Porting
P.s. Sadly I couldn't find anything on Jolla so I will leave that request for another time when the porting community gets a better grip upon it.

What's the deal with the fingerprint reader driver?

Hello dear people, I hope I can be forgiven for asking a potentially stupid question.
With my 850F batteries failing, I am hoping to get some more months out of this once expensive phone. So I've been looking at some custom ROMs to see if they make a difference. But it seems like the fingerprint reader never works. People tell me it's because the driver source isn't available.
So, is this a question of legality (the driver cannot legally be included with roms) or of possibility (the driver is deeply dug in)? Because if it's the former, I was wondering if there's some file I can take out of the stock firmware and put onto my phone to make the fingerprint reader work with any rom?
Also, I would like to express my dissatisfaction with the terrible support Samsung has given for this phone. We got one late update from Kit Kat to Lollipop. It looks so vanilla it makes one wonder why it took so long. The black background colors from Kit Kat changed to white, a terrible choice for an OLED screen. So with regard to the already meager battery, this update has been a regression.
I'm trying to get as many months out of this phone as I can until the next generation of phones comes out. I love the Samsung hardware but I might look for brands that are either more frequent with updates or open source enough so that custom firmware development is not hindered by unsupported hardware.
I'm thinking the next phone should just be under 5 inch and powerful enough to be a desktop computer running full Linux, like Ubuntu OTA 11 (if someone introduces Android compatibility) or Maru OS, so I don't have to carry around a laptop anymore.
Fingerprint scanner works fine with all Samsung based ROMs (OzcanROM and EpsilROM) only CM ROMs (CM and ResurrectionRemix) don't support it (aswell as heart rate monitor)

I hadn't even thought of the heartrate monitor yet!
Yes, I tried those non-Samsung ROMs. I thought if I use the Samsung-based ROMs, I might as well use the Samsung ROM.
Because they use proprietary drivers, and samsung does not disponibilize them, well, when marshmallow launch, its is POSSIBLE that Samsung bundle the source code with a generic fingerprint driver, as fingerprints reader support is a generic and system wide thing in MM, just like when hardware acceleration via GPU was an propietary thing in android 2.3 and being default on android 4.0

Which ROM would be best for me?

I am waiting for my Mi Pad 1 to arrive in the mail.
I bought it because I want a good tablet to emulate games on, and some native Android games.
Initially I wanted to buy an Nvidia Shield K1, but those are hard to come by these days, and if you do, they are always too expensive, at least for me.
I want to install a ROM with Shield Blobs, and I don't care if I loose the camera functionallity.
But I'm not sure jumping on the latest Lineage ROM is the right thing for me, since I'm not interested in having the latest Android OS.
I am only interested in getting the best performance of the tablet gaming wise. I am worried that a too recent version of Android OS will be too much for the tablet to handle, which would be bad for and affect the gaming performance of the tablet.
Which ROM would you recommend?
Please, any help is appreciated!
Come on! I seriously doubt that there's no one here who hasn't got the knowledge to help me. Please guys!!! If it were as simple as doing a Google search, I would.
Lineage OS 15.1 , only problem I experience is when left idle for long period reboots to recovery. All else working very well. Just follow the instructions.
Pretty much any ROM with Shield blobs will do the trick. I would go with LOS 14.1 as there is hw support for video acceleration.
