Why don't you unzip cm7 and another rom and compare? Touchwiz has its own framework so that's a chunck of it I'm sure

already did there's no MAJOR changes. the only thing im suspicious is the Boot.img on CM7 and thats it.
The rest seem normal, the TW is obviously missing, and again I don't think TW takes away 50MB
I ve noticed the same thing but then I always thought it weighed very little ...
If you notice they leave so many apps off it is really like 6-7 rows of apps in the drawer instead of 12-14 rows.... that has to lower the size by a bunch. I noticed that Brick'd zendroid is like 100mb as well and it has about the same amount of apps as well
So it has come to this--CM is basic as hell compared to any TW Sammy rom. They take all the crap out and slim it all down.
TW system apps are way bigger. Just compare. And it has a lot of extras. Also cm doesn't include google apps.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
i think not having gapps installed in the begining slims it down alot
The whole gapps package is like 6 MB at max. It certainly is TW.
I still refuse to believe TW takes away 50MB. stupid Samsung can't make it lighter???
Look at it...
Edit: frameworks, tw apps, etc. The tw music player is almost 6 mb alone, compared to aosp player at less than a megabyte. All this adds up.
Is it possible to do? I've gotten sense 4 multitasking on my nexus s so i was hoping it might be possible to get stock ics multitasking on my evo. I use multitasking a lot (even though its got its issues) but i prefer to see them in a list rather than swipe through each one.
people love to ***** about simple stuff lol
if you hate it so much return it
or wait for a AOSP rom like CM 9 or AOKP
dude, chill out. if youre gonna post such a negative response, why take out the time to post at all. smh. i love the phone.
I was wondering the same too. Sense 4 implementation looks more impressive and flashy for showing off to your friends but the stock ics implementation is much more usable.
The way you got the sense task switcher on another device, did it involve changing the framework?
Sent from my ViperRom Evo LTE via Tapatalk 2
hmm im not sure. an awesome developer over at the nexus s 4g thread made the mod. just flashed the zip and i was using sense 4 multitask. like you said, its cool to show off, but everyday use, i prefer stock (even though i enjoy most of sense)
It involves modification of the ROM's SystemUI. On the Nexus S, it was a matter of modifying the source code. On Sense 4, you're going to have to decompile and play with smali.

The charmeleon rom from the dev forum apparently has the option to change the multitasking, as well as the lockscreen, back to AOSP style. I'm testing it out right now and both tweaks are good to go. The only thing that is different from my modded ViperROM is that recent apps isn't mapped to menu anymore as joelz made some changes and that became non-functional for now.

Which option is the multitasking option?
I'm shocked that HTC hasn't made an attempt to fix this screw up. Regardless if they did it on purpose. Ok great, got it. But that was a bad idea and should be fixed. The multitasking is so annoying. I'll find myself filling out a form, then switch apps, then try to go back to the form and it reloads the page and kills everything I've filled out. AAAAHHHHH!!! Same with like copying and pasting a password from one app to another... I tried to ignore the hype about this issue while we waiting to receive our phones, but in the end, it really does get in the way. Can't wait for a vanilla android ROM.
Also, from what I've heard, there's not a single person on the planet that's actually happy about this. So why the heck isn't HTC changing it to appease everyone? Noone wants your stupid multitasking feature HTC! Shame on you.
EDIT: It is a sick phone though!

That's just a ui change, it doesn't change the way multitasking actually works.
In order to fix multi-tasking, you have to adjust the memory values which Viper's ROM does. Then it works fine no matter which multi-task UI you use...

im quite disappointed at what sony did with ics. the gui alone is not up to expectations. it looks exactly the same as GB on the surface. Sony could have done so much more but they stuck with the old. been using kamarush MINICMSANDWICH Lite AOSP with kamarush v2 kernal before i flashed the official ics. the minicm lite is so much beter. beter battery life. smoother & cleaner interface. the app drawer is so much more efficient. Sony just took GB gui and overlayed it over ics. compared to the icslite, the official one just looks like crap. Flashing back to miniicslite as i type this.
Cant wait to get the miniics lite update!!
This goes to show XDA people are beter and more advanced!!

This is not true. You find the common things in Xperia GB and Xperia ICS becuase both are having the Timescape UI.
If to the contrary to what happened in reality, you were given with Kamarush's ICS ROM from the day one you owned your cell phone, you would love the ICS update by Sony. At least the UI.
The performance obviously is cooler in custom ROMs. That's why they are made at the first place. For better performance.
Anyways, it all depends on for how much time you used a thing. You get bored very soon. And thus you have the cool custom ROMs out here in XDA.
So, instead of signing with my usual thanks, I will sign as...
Happy Flashing,
Rick

i guess your right, but i just cant help but feel the timescape ui looks very clunky and square. the stock google ui is so much beter imo. sony could have tweaked the ui rather than just port the ui. but yeah thats what all the custom roms are for!! cant wait to see what the crazy roms get cooked up now that the official roms are out there!!
Actually the four cornered interface that sony uses, utilises the space available in small screens pretty well That's why they stuck to it. I don't think this UI will be changed. This is the most efficient IMO Well opinions differ. That's why some guy started rooting and modding
For me,it doesn't matter as I like Gingerbread and this ICS UI is same like Gingerbread but what dissapoint me is the ICS don't have the ICS toggle at the status bar T.T I saw many ICS phone with the toggle button but our ICS don't have any,but I'm glad they make the setting button on the status bar...

I did like most part of the ICS update except for these:
#1. There are certain areas in the ui which don't blend with the adjoining panels well.
#2. The light sensor is not used for automatic brightness and so now I'm stuck with fixed display brightness.
#3. The widgets still leave a lot to be desired.
#4. New camera ui is horrible.
Sent from my SK17i using XDA
I liked the update, as Sony stated in its blog, most features of ICS were already implemented in GB by Sony, but we have the most up-to-date Android version with all its bug fixes (and I mean BUGs, not simple cosmetic stuff, I'm talking security bugs) with the same known, useful and space aware UI. Not to mention apps compatibility.
I really dont care about the interface colors and stuff, even the camera is way easier to handle the way they did, not much clutter like some vendors do, and the shots are still awesome.
So far didn't hit a single bug, no FCs, no reboots, its rock solid, stable and even battery efficient, I'm getting the same battery time as in GB.

As I know just Galaxy phones (except Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus) and some Sense3 HTC devices have toggles out of the box...
I think you saw a picture of a CyanogenMod build, because with these ROMs you can have toggles by default.
I've seen toggles in notification area on HTC One V, stock ICS. Looks quite nice, would love to have it on my LWW.

I feel performance is apparently decreased compared to GB stock rom. Even games like Fruit Ninja & angry birds which ran butter like smooth on GB now have got some frame skipping or gliches. Its a bit annoying for me however I'm quit satisfied with new features.

Hello every1
I have been a fan of CM roms since I can remember having an Android phone, always loved the feeling of a clean Android Software.
Too bad samsung always packs touchwiz on its software, I hate its launcher, the icons, the settings menu, notification bar... Everything on it!
The problem I ham having is that going with CM based roms nowadays implies having to leave most of the amazing features of this phone behind, like its amazing camera, CM camera works, but not 100%, keeps giving me trouble and the picture quality cant be compated to Samsung roms.
Does any1 know a Samsung rom with the 100% looks of JB Android ?
Best regards
You could always grab the apex launcher....

That's GREAT. But is it possible to have the Jelly Bean SMS app instead of Samsung's (and same thing for Contacts app) ? The Google SMS app is much better (better looks, silent delivery reports,...), and if you can add Samsung features on it (direct call especially) you are a GOD

You can try Romow N4 ROM. It is a Sammy based ROM with NOVA launcher pre-installed, without any bloatwares, dioxidized and rooted to the likes of many. The only reason in my case where I find this particular ROM great is that there are many features included in it such as in-built call-recorder(stalker app I know) 2 camera apps(Original Sammy and a Nexus's I believe?) , no touchwheeze and bloatwares, no lag on keyboard operations(usually found in many custom jelly bean ROMS) just to name a few. I was on CM10 before but found this a tad better especially for the fact that my OEM(China made RED cables) MHL adaptor works fine with this ROM unlike the latter. So you can give this one a try, it has been my daily driver for about a few days now.

Do you mean DEODEXED ?
You know that performance-wise, deodexing a ROM is a huge step backwards, right?
I found absolutely no advantages in the ROM mentioned (Romow N4), and everything it provides can either be installed from the Play Store or uninstalled using Titanium Backup. Besides, it probably is MUCH, MUCH SLOWER than a stock, odexed ROM.
The only advantage of deodexing a ROM is to allow for theming the ROM by changing the resources some apps use (like the framework itself).

Also true, but that's not something the regular user (which I believe is the case here) will do, or even know how to do. Therefore, my general advice for those who don't know the difference, is to simply avoid deodexed ROMs.
Just use foxhound with an theme

you can simply freeze touchwiz home and use nova or apex or any other launcher out there and still enjoy the other goodies from samsung.
Everyone talks about Apex and Nova launchers but Holo is the best of them all in my opinion it's just not as widely known as the others, check it out from the market (quite similar to Apex actually but better IMO)
Guys i've started this thread to discuss about stock and cm based custom roms
1)which is better in what way
2)battery life
3)gaming performance
4)tweaks available for each
i felt that there is no thread related to this that's why started one
for battery, stock is the best
Stock FTW
Better battery, stable, camera, dialer, music and mms are very good.
Personally I miss tw goodies like integrated task manager button, camera and music player in CM7 so Stock is better for me
Yeah stock is stable, but so is cm7.
However, you miss out on the newer features offered in the cm9/ cm10 /aokp/ paranoid android roms.
I'm using PAC by nims11.
The main reason I personally prefer cm7 over stock is multitasking. On stock if I am using one application and switch to another, then switch back, my place is lost and often the first app has been killed and has to restart. That might be why cm7 supposedly uses more battery (I don't notice a difference personally, but I use my phone a lot)
I'm also not a fan of touchwiz and prefer the customization of cm7.
I love trying new roms no matter what the android version; 2.3.6, 2.3.7, 4.0 or 4.1
Kudos to all the Dev's working hard to make my old crappy ace awesome!

A little bit battery drain than stock but has more costomization for daily use..also has no bugs.. all the things is working and stable..
Actually our opinions always have a touch of personal experience. Some people use the stock based just the way they are & some people tweak it more. I've seen that the sgs II v10.1 has a great multi tasking capability ( atleast for me...) . Kranti.ace has really brought out a revolution as his name says. His rom is pretty smooth & he's promising further improvisation. What else to expect? Just the devs to bring out the better of what's already best...
