[Q] Samsung Galaxy s2 Hardware issues - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need help I'm having some major issues with my phone and I was hoping someone could help me out? I've got two problems with my phone first it's the service I'm not always able to receive or make calls but it's not my sim card or service provider. I've switched my sim card twice and called my provider about the issue. It's something hardware related I'm just not sure what? I think it could be the sim port or antena. I'm able to make calls sometimes and when I'm out side I only get 2bars? somethings up I really need someones help. The second problem is my gyroscope is messed up I can't use anything that uses the tilt feature. I strongly believe that this is solely a HARDWARE issue I really need someones help.
I've got a samsung galaxy s2 i19100
I have a Canadian provider (Virgin mobile)

I've uploaded the two pics one is my phone info and the other is my gyroscope messing up it's always tilted to one side and yes I've tried calibrating it didn't fix anything.

[Q] help guys please with my galaxy s2 screen

hi guys i hope some one replay
my sgs2 screen got blue tint on top of my screen i tried 4 firmwares the same so i toke my phone to my local shop that i bought it from because i have 1 year warranty
so today they told me it was a firmware proplem they told that they installed another rom and now it have no blue tint on top
but i sure they are telling lies
im sure they have changed the screen cuz no way a firmware fix this
im going to take my device tomorrow from the shop is there any way to know if they have replaced the screen ? ?? ?
i want to know that cuz my warranty is replacing the device not fixing it !
so i want to know if there is any way to know if they changed the screen or not ??
thanks alot guys on advance
First thing I would do is see if the blue tint problem is fixed. I imagine you will be able to do that easily.
If there is no blue tint problem you will be happy, yes?
Not sure what your asking since your phone is being fixed under warranty for free.
Edit: ok read your post again and you want the phone replaced not fixed. Maybe you could check if the phone has the same serial number and ime??

if they changed the screen the serial number and ime will still be the same right ? ?
so any other way to see if they replaced the screen
Just call them and ask...I'm not sure why would they go all the trouble of replacing the screen and then lie about it.

what is the duration of your phone on their hand? if less than 1 day, hard to believe they can change the LCD so fast.

GS2 has stopped vibrating

I'm not sure when exactly it happened, but my phone has stopped vibrating. No matter what rom I flash, even if I go right back to an unrooted stock rom, it won't vibrate no matter what settings or apps I use.
I know people have had this issue before, but I can't find a fix through the searches I've done.
Anyone have an idea? I'm considering just taking it in for repair, but that would leave me without a phone

Pretty sure this is a hardware failure of the vibrator. You probably don't have a choice but to take it to repair.

Hmm, I was kinda hoping it wouldn't be. Oh well, these things happen I guess. If anyone else reading this has a possible software fix, I'm all ears.

I'd be interested in a possible software fix for a probable hardware failure as well.
Here's an easy way to test. Download Z-DeviceTest from the market. It has an entry for "Vibrator". Open that, touch the screen to test. That just sends a simple signal to the vibrator to turn on. Does it vibrate?

Thanks for the heads up on that app. I can rule out any chance of a software fix. This is a definite hardware failure.
I better start making backups of everything, put the phone back to stock and reset the counter.
Thanks for the help man.

Please refer to this post I made, it might simply be a software issue.

Blank Service Menu

Hi guys, I wanna improve my reception, and i keyed in *#*#197328640#*#* to bring up service menu.
However, my service menu was blank. Anyone knows why? I am testing the rom, kernel and baseband as stated on my siggy.
Could this be baseband related?
Cheers,
Anjoid
P.S was searching on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674286 and CWM Flashable modems by perka, it states that my modem is for ICS. I should have the JB one called DXLH4?
Is there anyone out there who knows a thing or two about something like this? It's funny because i did multiple searches, and people get this sort of issue when the phone doesnt recognise the SIM card. My phone is working fine, text messages and all. I have my IMEI number and everything. except i noticed my sms message centre number is blank. But everything still works fine.
I hope someone out there can address this issue.
Many thanks guys.

Bumping posts is banned on XDA this is not a fix my phone service .
If a user reads your post and has the answer they will reply .
Modems are interchangeable and may work better for some areas try another modem or two .

Thanks, understood. I dont think it is a modem issue here. Just flashed the new jelly bean modem. Same result. The Service Menu is blank, meaning it does not detect my SIM most likely. However, everything on my phone is fine. That is the irony.

[Q] Unusual dialing noise and problem making/receiving calls (video attached)

My galaxy s2 has started causing me problems over the last day. It can only make or receive calls irregularly. Text messages are delayed when sending and receiving them. Sometimes when the phone does ring it makes an unusual sound. I have attached a video of this.
youtube.com/watch?v=kX3jb7rUua4&feature=youtube_gdata_player (Im not allowed post new videos cause i am a new user so removed the www part of the link) Sorry for doing this but it its hard to explain the sound in words.
Mobile data, wi fi and everything else on the phone are working fine. I have tried different sims in the phone and they all have the same problem. I have also restarted the phone numerous times and done a factory reset. The phone is rooted using siyah kernal 3.03 and running android 4.03. The build number is IML74K.XWLP7. The phone has been rooted with siyah kernal for a couple of months with no problem. Does anyone have an idea of what is wrong with it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
What is your network signal like? If it is poor, perhaps flashing a new modem may help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131950

Thanks for the reply. The signal is full strength or just one below. Do you happen to know if I unrooted my device would it make a difference?

Rooting wouldn't have caused it. Are you on a custom ROM? If so which one?

No am running a stock rom. Do you know could the noises in the video or the failure to randomly make or receive calls be caused by some type of physical damage? (moisture etc) Everything seems to work fine apart from calls not connecting and the noise in the video.
Have you dropped it? My older phones dialing sound has changed because i dropped it

No I haven't dropped it. The only physical thing that might have happened to it is moisture getting in. Everything else works perfect mobile data / wi fi / gps /screen / battery charge / camera. The noise doesn't always happen only a handful of times. Calls connect 50 percent of the time for ingoing and outgoing calls. It just seems so random

Thats what I think it might be. Was hoping it was somehow kernel related. Don't have the receipt anymore for carphone warehouse where i bought it. Still have the box though presume they would be able to crosscheck the numbers? Also to get rid of the yellow triangle (for returning it to the store) is all i need to do is flash the necessary firmware from sammobile site?

if ur a bit skillfull enough then u can try with some diff custom kernel/roms and see if the issue persits r gets resolved for u
to get rid of the 'Yellow triangle' u can use 'Triangle Away' app for sure
If the problem persists, download a stock ROM for your phone from sammobile.com, flash via Odin and then use a USB Jig to remove any binary count. Then send the phone off for repair by Samsung.

[Q]Intermittent loud scratch noise during calls after Cyanogenmod 10 + Generic IMEI

Hello everyone, I hope you guys can shed some light on my problem, I would really appreciate it. I searched the forum and found a workaround for the IMEI problem that did not work for me. And I found nothing regarding the loud noise during calls. So I decided to post to get some help.
Problem 1
I have a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000B from Brazil unlocked from the store. Three days ago I decided to update my system (2.2) to the CM10.0.0 (4.1.2). After much sweat and hassle I discovered how do it properly with the right files. So, I flashed 2.3.3 and then CM10 and it seemed to work properly until I found out my IMEI had been corrupted. I tried the solution I found but it didn't work because on step #5 I don't find the file named ".nv_data", just "nv_data.bin.md5". I tried copying just the other but in the end it doesn't change my IMEI back. I still have a generic IMEI but it is not affecting the signal of my phone, I can still make and receive calls, but I would like to get it properly working. When I flash android 2.2 it restores my IMEI.
Problem 2
My other problem is that I keep getting these really loud and intermittent scratch noises during calls after flashing CM10. Right now I am using a dutch SIM for I live in the netherlands. Maybe that is important to mention. But I had been using android 2.2 here all along with no problems. After CM10 I get these sudden short bursts of noise during my calls. The other person can barely hear it but I hear it loudly. It's really annoying. I have no idea what is causing it or how I can fix it.
Can you guys help me out with this one?!
Thank you,
Henry
Why don't you try another rom and see if the issue persists?

Do you mean another version of the CM10? Is there antoher version of it? On android 2.2 and 2.3.3 it was working flawlessly. I don't know what happened to the calls with this noise.
On the other hand, I know the IMEI problem is because of the ROM for sure. Just don't know how to fix it.

I'm sure there is more than one, yes. Why don't you post this in the galaxy forums where you'll grab the attention of users with the same phone?

I tried searching for it and surprisingly did not find. Found s4, s3, s2, ace and so on, but not galaxy s. I thought it was quite tricky finding the right place, maybe I was looking in the wrong one?
