Not a Rom Manager Q~ A few days ago i rooted my Samsung Galaxy S2 I777, everything was working fine and I downloaded all the suggested apps. Amongst them was Rom manager, within the app it was mentioned that there was an update for it, I then went ahead with the update which then resulted with my phone not turning on, it was partially bricked. I was still able to go into recovery mode, while there I tried wiping, installing a new rom; everything. Nothing seemed to work. I then searched for a way out of this, I once again placed it in recovery mode and followed a youtube tutorial for its recovery, using odin I place all three files in their proper places; the modem file, ext. The phone sprung back to life to my delight, but unfortunately the recovery pack was made for the Galaxy S II GT-I9100G not the sad AT&T version. So now the light up keys don't work. I have searched everywhere for a recovery pack meant for the S2 I777, but have not succeeded. I need to restore my original backup and with the kernel I am running Kies does not complete the restore.

Sorry this happened, depending on what you flash it could be more involved then just flashing the stock package. Here are some links.... I hope creepyncrawly comes in to help you!!! GL just don't be in a rush you could make it worse.....

It took me forever to read that . I use the dark theme for tapatalk and I almost had to switch themes to read it. To the OP- follow the link snipe gave, u'll be fine. Long as your boot loaders aren't messed up beyond repair, and if u only flashed a kernel like the thread title says, you'll be fine.

I'm having a problem with the vibration on my Samsung Galaxy S 2 (i-777). After some research, I decided that I should take it back to the store. I'm running a custom rom and have it rooted. I know I need to reset the flash counter and restore it to the stock from. Is there anything else I'm forgetting?

Thats really all there is to do restore stock unrooted reset flash counter then a factory wipe of all personal info and you are goof to go

Yes that is partly true, I work in the computer forensic part of the computer world without completly destroying the device ordoing what is called a low level format ( zero out) your hdd or the memory one will still be able to recover data on a device given the proper tools and skills. However thecost of doing this outways the outcome inthe privite sector of data recovery thegoing pay rate for a computer forensic person is on average 400 to 500 dollars an hour and no that is not a typo.Now with regards to android devices its not worth it to the company unless for legal action to do this. All they worry about is rooting and custom roms breaking the warrenty

Hey everyone,
Been a while since I've touched base... so I thought I would screw up my phone just as an excuse to say 'Hi!"
Anyways, been running a CM9 nightly for many months, finally got bored with it today so I found the SuperNexus rom and installed that without a hitch.
But then I got greedy.
After meticulously setting up the phone and apps again, I decided I wanted to get my CRT screen on/off animation back and thought, "Well, hey... this should be easy," so I booted into recovery and installed the zip. Hit reboot and.... nothing. The Samsung GS2 logo appears, and then it's just a black screen.
In retrospect, I imagine it has to do with some kind of incompatibility between the CRT animation I used for CM9/ICS and this new JB rom... hindsight 20/20.
If you guys could give any pointers I'd appreciate it. Unless I'm doing something wrong, I can't seem to boot into recovery. Any way I can uninstall that CRT zip, or am I stuck?

I swear I tried that several times and it didn't work, but now that I tried it again I was able to boot into recovery.
Would simply re-installing the SuperNexus zip overwrite this issue, or do I need to start from scratch with another factory wipe/clear data?

Wouldn't matter they'd still say they couldn't boot into recovery. Then we'd have to point out that they aren't holding it for long enough. Then they'd say they are. Then we'd say hold it until u actually get INTO recovery mode. Then they'd respond saying oops, derp, you were right. Viscious cycle.

I have tried flashing AOKP Jellybean on my phone... But when I reboot into recovery, It doesn't give me the option "Flash Using ROM on my SD Card" or somewhat like that!
I have heard certain rumors about ROM Manager not working on our phone! Idk how to work things out from here! Please help me!

You haven't even rooted yet I'm guessing. Go ahead and read the stickies.
Assuming you do have a 777 and not another variant of the sgs2, then the "rumors" about rom manager not working are not rumors. It is confirmed all over this forum, all you have to do is read. Don't use it. Read the stickies before you mess up your phone.
So are u saying u have rom manager installed or not? Have u rooted and installed a kernel with cwm in it yet? Do u wear ladies undergarments? Were u the second gunman on the grassy knoll? Tell me!

P.S- I don't mind you guys having fun. But it gets taken too far and too many pages of it. I don't even like this device but I continue to develop for it. So when I go into a thread I have to maintain and see it on a daily basis. It gets old really fast.

With that said, it can't be denied things have gotten a little overboard lately. (Get it?!) Problem is, there have been an influx of people asking the same 5 questions over and over... This has lead to frustration. Gotta cool your jets sometimes and let it be.
A, let the next person handle it
B, inform the person on the proper way to find the answer and give a nudge in the right direction. (A tiny flicker of a flame never hurt anyone)
C, flame away and get asked to stay out of Tasks thread because you're an åsshole... and told to remove the flag.
Gotta respect the mans wishes. Without him we'd be stuck with the alternatives, which aren't bad, but nowhere near as good!
A and B are where it's at.

And can people stop going all emo? Any offending of others has already been done, running off does nothing. Like I said in my post earlier, just take a different approach when explaining things to those too lazy or "helpless" to search.
Should have been said a month ago by a mod, but it wasn't. Now a highly respected Dev gets upset and it's like you were just caught opening presents the night before your birthday/Christmas. It irritates me that people are taking this so personal. Leave that stuff to Task! (He's the one spending countless hours developing sh¡t.) Respect his wishes, calm down on the noob flame and get back to enjoying this forum.
That's what I'm doing anyway...
EDIT: The ones "at fault" are knowledgeable people, it would be an injustice to see you guys disappear from the community. (I'm included, just not the "knowledgeable" part) - and snipe, this includes you minus the flaming... mostly

I get just as frustrated as the next guy when I see regurgitated questions and people clearly looking for instant gratification. We know that's a pretty common theme in tasks thread and on XDA in general. I'm done flaming people(for the most part)
It's pretty simple for me now, it's one of two things:
1.) Don't respond because someone else(mod/OP) will set it straight.
2.) Report!!!!
Simple as that. Devs spend A LOT of time doing this stuff for us for FREE. If someone can't spend a FEW MINUTES searching for an answer, they're getting Reported!!!!
I would love to report... can't do it on xda app or tapatalk.
