[Q] Picasa web sync and Samsung Gallery... - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Does anyone know of a way of working around or solving this problem? Basically if I enable Picasa web sync, it pulls down all 7gb of photos to the phones storage which isn't ideal. The stock Jelly Bean gallery on my previous Galaxy Nexus did not do this, it just showed some thumbnails and then downloading the picture when you open it.
So possible options to solve the issue:
1) Get the apk for the stock Jelly Bean and use that gallery (if that would work?)
2) symlink from the phone storage to the external sd card for the gallery cache (I'm not sure if Android would allow that?)
3) use a different app from the play store.
4) anything else?
Regards.

Try going into settings then data usage then click on gallery and tick restrict background data

Thanks, but that's just going to limit the app. I'd like to be able to see all the photos but just as a thumbnail or stored on the card.

A question about the photo gallery [SOLVED]

Hi all,
since yesterday I'm also an extremely happy owner of the Samsung Galaxy SIII and I was wondering about a thing.
In the settings I've already removed the checkbox regarding the syncing of Picasa Web photos however they still appear on the gallery.
The only way to remove them is by changing the view to local only but in that case The facebook photos don't appear either.
Is there any way to do remove them but show all photos except Picasa Web?
I had a similar issue on my G Nex, try this. Once you have all the syncs turned off, go into settings >> apps and clear data on both Gallery and Google+ (if G+ is installed). That should do it.
Deleting the cache of the gallery did the trick! Thanks!

Regarding Sync with Google Account stuff

I got a Galaxy S3 (International Edition) just yesterday
I enabled it to pull stuff from my google accounts, but then when I'm going to open the contacts, I see a bunch of my gmail contacts
How can I remove those from the phone? Selecting to display 'only contacts with phones' seems to fix it, but the email contacts are still available to be seen if one goes to settings and sets to display all contacts again
The same happens with the gallery application, it has like one album for each image I've ever published in Google+, I can set it to display only images from the phone, but then this is not a permanent setting, everytime I exit the Gallery app and re-enter it, it will display all the images from G+ (and I've heard that it will scan the microSD at launch for images, so it will become a clutter of every possible image it can find in the SD)
I have now disabled the sync of google contacts / g+ stuff to the phone, from settings -> accounts and sync -> uncheck sync google photos/google+/picasa web albums/contacts, so it doesn't pull down new stuff anymore, but the old stuff is still there
Is there any way to remove that?
Is there a good gallery app that will not scan the whole SD for media, nor will pull stuff from picasa/google+?
Thanks!
quick pic is the gallery app for you, you can select which folders to see, or just long press a folder and hit exclude

Click to collapse
I'm also using quick pic and happy with it. Simple but does the work better then stock gallery app.

Now just delete local files and you should be fine.
If you have a lot of them I would suggest to use File Browser such as ASTRO.

Google Photos app consuming device Storage

Hi all
I have a question around the google photos app.
I take a lot of photos, well I think I do. I have 33GB of them stored on google backup servers.
On the phone (Galaxy note 4) I store the photos on memory card so that valuable device storage is not used. However the google photos app consumes 6.6GB of Data (not cache) on the Storage device. Is this a cache of the 33GB on the server? is there any way that I can make this smaller as the phone only has 32GB (25GB user available) that is 25% of the space just on this one app. I am running out of space and it is rendering the phone un-useable.
I cant believe my only options are delete photos from my google account or replace the phone?
Can anyone help?
Thanks

unable to delete pics on SD with google photo

hello, since 1 or 2 weeks idk, i can't delete pics stored on my SD card with the google photo app, when i try, it says " google doesn't have access to the SD blabla... try open the gallery app" i didn't had that problem a few weeks ago.
i checked in settings/apps and notifications/google photo/ autorisations/storage -> allow , i wiped the cache, google photo ask me if i want to allow access to the storage, i said yes, but it doesn't delete files on SD anyway.
