I'm really leaning towards the AT&T Galaxy Note but I am somewhat swayed by the HTC One X. Leaning more towards the Note because of the development and SD card. I just love Samsung phones and have had bad experiences with HTC phones. But the one thing keeping me from the Galaxy Note is the horrible S3 processor. Its to bad we didn't get the Qualcomm S4 chip like the ONE X got.
HTC One X Pros:
-Great Design
-Awesome screen
-S4 Chip
Cons:
-Locked Bootloader (kind of a newbie at rooting but have been successful flashing roms with the i777, and skyrocket)
-16GB internal and THAT'S IT
-Horrible at multitasking (pretty much a deal breaker)
-Many report defects with the phone: screen issues, loose buttons, dust in screen
G-NOTE Pros:
Development support (Tons of ICS roms)
Very easy to root and flash rom
Love the form factor
Spacious
SD-Card
Cons:
Processor, while faster than the Exynos chip, its still out performed
Think I answered my own question, but would love to hear some thoughts on those who have been using the Note now for a couple months. I HATE LAG and read the Note suffers from this, but I plan on flashing Saurom.

I had the onx x first and exchanged it for about 5 times for defects. Good luck getting a perfect one.
screen is better quality on one x. But the note is almost as good with bigger size.
I'm done with the one x. Happy with the note since switch.

You pretty much said it yourself the not e is totally the way too go. I considered going to the X when it first came out but with all the little problems it seems to have and me loving everything about my Note i see no reason to get it.
I guess I've had two devices without lag or I just don't know what lag is. I guess that click an icon to and it takes half a second on occasion to do that action is lag but I'm just not that impatient.

If you were even considering the One X why not wait for the S3? It is very comparable in size to the X. The only real difference I see is a little bit of real estate and a pen.
I am seriously looking at the S3 as a backup phone to my Note. I can't see it replacing the Note though.
This is like comparing apples to oranges...
Unless you are buying international, the one x will not be quad. Since you mentioned att I'm assuming you want an att phone, might be wrong here.

The GNote is a great phone, which has been remarkably bug free for the most part. I am also going to pick up a SGSIII after launch. I just sold my skyrocket to make room for the SGSIII. I never even considered the HOX.
I like to switch out periodically.

With an ICS ROM there is no lag on the Note that I can tell. You would be sorry real quick with the limited storage and locked bootloader. The Note's processor has never been an issue to me. While not as "good" as the Exynos, still a quality chip with LTE support. Note is a great phone. I've owned it since day one.
I have an upgrade available and I was thinking about getting the HOX ---
but I think Im gonna wait for the S3 or the next iPhone. The HOX and its lack of features (removeable battery, expandable storage, unlocked bootloader) makes me think its going to be another Atrix. All the balls but noone to play with it. (Although the Atrix has come a long way since it was released).
If you want, get the Note first. When the gs3 comes, get that and sell the Note. I am really spoiled by the Huge screen....I dont think I will switch anytime soon. Unless 「Note 2」

The One-X has to many shortcomings which far overshadow the few good things about the device. I wouldn't even consider the device.
The S3 seems not special enough. My next device will probably be a note 2

If i were you i'd get the Htc one x, and share your experience with htc with us. I had it with htc, good design but lots of hardware issues. I had the titan, issue gallore.

I think the fact you can buy two spare batteries for the note for 15$ is a pretty good argument haha
add to the fact that you can have 48+ gb's on the note
I don't see what good a camera with zero shutter lag is if your going to fill up the 9 gb's the user has available in absolutely no time.
After upgrading to ICS, I've experienced no lags or hiccups with the S3 processor
The Note is better than the One X, but i dont think it is better the SGSIII so the SGS3 will have to give me my new phone Fix till the Note2 drops.........Cant wait on both of these devices.
I purchased the One X the day it came out, upgrading from a galaxy s2. Had to take first one back because of a broken speaker. Kept the "good" one for a week then took it back and was going to wait for the sgs3... then out of the corner of my eye I caught a glimmer of sunlight shining off the Galaxy note.
I said meh and figured I'd keep it a couple weeks and wait for the 3. Surprised to say that I cancelled my pre-order on the sgs3 yesterday (had the phone about a week now).
Love the note, the development community is great and diverse (even coming from the vastly populated sgs2 community), and the accessory / upgrade options that the note has well established.
One X multi tasking finished it off for me, sense took way too much memory, battery life hurt, screen was great but I'm spoiled by the perfect contrast of the amoled since the sgs2 (I am in darker environments most often and the inverted screens are unbeatable on amoled). Locked boot loader will eventually be cracked but I don't want to support a company (at&t or htc) doing that anyways, so it made the decision that much easier.
I'm a big benchmarker myself, so seeing some of the scores on the note felt like a punch in the gut at first. But after loading cm9 and tweaking a bit I've got mine running great with no noticeable lag at all, which is less than I can say for my sgs2 on cm9 and especially the HOX (even without sense).
Go grab the hox play with it for a bit, you get 30 days return with at&t. But know that the processor isn't something you're going to hold and look at daily (like the feel of the phone, or the bad ass screen- both of which the note wins out on IMO) :beer:

I hadn't even seen this thread until after I exchanged for an AT&T Note, but I got the AT&T HTC One X two weeks ago.
My summary of it was: ICS and the Hardware are nice, but coming from the SGS4G, I liked having an external sdcard.
Since the HOX bootloaders are locked and s-on, not really much rom development yet. I'm sure there will be awesome roms when they unlock.
So with that, I figured I'd keep my phone stock + root for a while and wait for unlocked bootloaders. But the software on the HOX is kinda flaky. I lost my job a few weeks ago and need phone calls from recruiters. The other day I got 5 emails stating that they tried calling me but no answer. That won't work for me.
So, Now I have a note

I swap phones all the time. I am always curious about what is new.
That being said I am a huge fan of the note, but snagged a one x at launch.
Within the first hour, or the honeymoon phase, I was in love. The one x is well built, and is a snappy phone. However, with natural and practical use - the phone loses its luster with the multi tasking. While it may not seem like a big deal - imagine an app, or a web page re loading fresh at every view.
Also, imagine a phone with no sd slot, leaving you with no greater than 8gb storage for media once all of your apps were installed. The point of owning a smart phone is a one stop shop of a device - one that you can browse the web, listen to music, make calls, use apps etc. the point of a smartphone, for me at least is to NOT carry multiple devices for life's activies. I don't have an unlimited data plan, so te fact that I couldn't store my music on the phone was a deal breaker, since I use my phone at least 5 days a week for music.
Also, the gps performance was sub par. I can not confirm that this was or was not my particular unit- but if the phone wasn't under the window of my car it would quickly lose gps signal.
Note is one of the best phones I've used. The only downside is that it requires almost constant 2 handed use. Sure you may get away with some one handed action, but not while driving.

Don't get me wrong - rhe one x feels and looks superb. The display is, although smaller, just as beautiful as the note's. However, after the initial "wow" factor wears off, You begin to feel like the onex was kinda pushed out the gate. It's poor memory management is assumed to be directly related to allocating system resources to making sure sense runs well and good - which it does.
My final point being - of you were to try a device for 30 days, I would test a note. There are some cool things happening almost daily now to keep you interested and also improving an already awesome device. Give htc some time to figure out their situation and figure out if they want REALLY sell their flagship device or not.
When I saw the Note I just feel in love with this device from the bigging and watch story on it on youtube and web and forums about other people posted about the device.
I did look into the HTC ONE X
I was so upset it didn't support SD Card that really turn me down on this device.
don't get me wrong both are wonderful devices and it's up to you what device you would like to have and do research on it before you buy it.

Are any of you HOX+ owners tempted by the new HTC One?
I'm thinking about it but the lack 64gb is not helping.
So what about you?
I'm getting it in August when my contract is up and currently selling my HOX+ on eBay for a N4. I would say I'm pretty tempted
Edit: well it will depend on the development for the One. If it is locked down and has AOSP issues like this phone then I'm just gonna get the GS4.

I'm pretty tempted to get it, but I'm also worried about the lack of dev support for the phone. With it being on multiple carriers, I don't see that being too huge of an issue, but my experience with a limited development phone (One X+) has shown me how much I truly need AOSP every now and then. If I see that it gets a lot of development within the first month release, I just may have to go with it. Plus, the dual front speakers are the perfect gimmick for a guy like me.

Exactly how I feel. The actual phone is good, but the lack of popularity is depressing for a stock Android fan.

Totally agree. I just ordered my N4 and will sell my HOX+. I was thinking for a second to get the One but then I am again dependent on AT&T's updates and the dev community to get stock android. I gave the Hox+ a chance but I must admit I hate Sense. I don't use any of the features except the clock widget. It doesn't even sync the adressbook to my google account automatically. I like HTC's hardware but I don't like Sense and this won't change with Sense 5.
The ONE has better screen resolution, but only a 4 megapix camera, has 2 gigs ram, but only 26gig user memory, same size screen, it has 2300mah vs our 2100, 4.1.2, which we may get, both have a quad core 1.7. Honestly, I wouldn't buy it, based on lack of user storage and the camera. My one x+ is plenty fast enough with only 1gig ram, and the better screen resolution will be hardly noticeable on a 4.7" screen. I also have a sneaking suspicion HTC will be coming out with a ONE+ in the next few months or so. I was once a huge HTC fan, but as of late, it's seems like they're purposely making their phones worse so they can release "better" ones down the road. HTC knock it the FLIP off! If you wish to stand a chance against Samsung take everything that rocks with the one x+, camera, built in storage etc, and everything that rocks about the ONE, screen resolution, sense 5 (?) put it in one bad [email protected]# phone and call it a day for the next year or so. Stop this trying to make it better, by making the first release worse, crap.

Everything else aside, boiling down the One's camera to simple "4 megapixel" doesn't really do it justice. They did some neat stuff with the camera sensor instead playing the "more pixels = more better" game. Read up on the One's camera, it's actually pretty cool.

Although I love the device and WP was pretty good for what it was meant to do, I was a bit disappointed that the apps I heavily use for school and work didn't get ported to WP in spite of many petitions to these companies. Even though I love Nokia, I had to make the uneasy decision of leaving them behind and jumping ships back to HTC. I recently bought the HTC One and have a few questions.
I had the first HTC Desire as well as the HTC Flyer, but I was extremely disappointed at the fact that HTC decided to pull support from both of these devices after just being a few months in the market. They touted both of these devices at all conferences before launch and then cut the support to them. As a result, I wanted to move away from HTC, but unfortunately I'm back because WP/Nokia option didn't work out for me. I just want to know how HTC is doing in terms of supporting their devices? Is it still very difficult to root their devices?
Is there anything in general I've missed for the past 8 months?
Also, from personal experience, how is the Lumia 920 camera vs the HTC One?
HTC hasn't proven any different yet, there's still no official 4.2.2 even.
However, thanks to the Google edition you'll be able to get the best support possible should you choose to unlock the device and put a custom recovery on it to flash GE roms (or if you just buy the Google edition). May even be possible to change CID and flash an RUU and get direct updates like a Nexus device once it's available.
Dev support is great for the One. You can unlock the boot loader on HTCDev and flash a recovery right from fastboot. Easiest non-nexus I've worked with
As far as cameras are concerned, I'm convinced the lumia 920 has a superior camera - Nokia probably has the best on any smartphone, great quality, good low light shots, etc. Not to say the One is bad (its actually quite good in my experience so far), but it's not as good as what you have on the higher end lumia devices.
Otherwise, the One is far superior to the 920 in every way - at least in my opinion.
But welcome back you seem to have the same problem as most android/iOS to WP converts.

I really wish Nokia made an Android option, but regardless. I was happy to see that there will be a GE version of the HTC One, which would mean that even if HTC decides to pull the plug, at least the updates from google and developers from XDA will keep the device going!
I've actually had a lot of friends that went with the iphone that can't wait for their contracts to be up so they can switch to android. they're not having much luck with iOS
Seriously if Nokia will have android, they will be on top of Samsung, HTC etc with their good hardware design.
Too bad Microsoft has brainwashed Nokia. Nokia should get into the Android game while making WP as well. The more choices we have...the better.

I also jumped back to Android from my Lumia 920,I still keep it because its a great phone,really like the OS, but missed some work apps (Logmein & GFI) ,im really pleased with the ONE, been trough a lot Android devices and the ONE is perfection for an Android Device.

How could you possibly think of leaving the android community? I am thrilled you came to your "sense"s though (pun intented)
Like a lot of you, I'm hanging onto unlimited data. My Galaxy Nexus' power button is losing elasticity, and its only a matter of time before the power button or the charging port die on me.
...and now is an interesting time to be on the market for a new phone.
I like the DNA over the X because of the look (I fell for the original Droid Incredible), water resistance, and antenna (it had full bars in my Verizon store when the S4, iPhone 5 and RAZRs had 2-3 bars).
I don't like the non-removable battery (I think I'll have to suck that up, really no new phones have that) or the 16GB of storage. On that note, how much of that is actually usable?
It's actually kind of a catch 22, I insist on at least 32 GB (like my Nexus), yet nothing is or has really ever been on my Nexus in terms of music or other media. I have a Mac so syncing has been.... Well not with HTC Sync if I get this phone.
I like the X in that it's always listening, that's badass, I think we can all agree on that. The downside I suppose is the locked boot loader (looking at $650 at least for the Developer Edition), and at present, no root or unlock method. You probably know how Motorola is.
I'm leaning towards the DNA (does it have 4.3 in the form of a custom ROM), partially because I want something that will get updates (officially or no) for years to come... I thought my Nexus would fit the bill there, but it just wasn't made to last, and it's lagging in 4.2.2 and 4.3... Not to mention the 5 MP shooter....
Anyway, thoughts on this, and used vs. new for the DNA (I'm thinking used since the screen apparently scratches easily and the phone in general just gets damaged easily...right?). Seems like new they're overpriced on eBay ($450+).

Not owning an X, so I'm biased, but the DNA is a fantastic phone. There are tons of custom ROMs, CM appears to have a maintainer so official status is coming.
The battery isn't that big of deal... Depending on ROM and setup, you can squeeze decent time out of it. There is 11GB usable, but I use the cloud for everything so I barely touch the limit. I pretty much keep it open for games.

Some people have managed to do an upgrade to the Moto X using the Edge plan and still keep unlimited data.

If your buying cash get the DNA and try it out. They ought to be cheap on CL, I've seen them as low as $175.
I paid $325 for a NIB about three months ago.
It's still a good phone. We're about to get 4.3 officially which will be a great base for custom ROMs and when the One gets around to 4.4 that'll probably be portable as well.
I don't see there being big issues with the DNA degrading in performance since the specs are similar to the MotoX,we are pushing more pixels though.
Coming from a Galaxy Nexus, like I did, it'll be a fantastic step and you might find you like Sense5. I love it!

Been going through a lot of smartphones in the past few weeks doing the old "craigslist shuffle" - buy one, toy around with it, realize it's not quite everything I want, list it, sell it, take the proceeds and buy another, repeat ad nauseum and now I'm at it again. Here's my situation:
I currently have a Galaxy Note (I717 AT&T model), unlocked, in use with T-Mobile on that oh-so-awesome $30/month plan, and while I like this phone quite a bit, I have an opportunity to trade it (and all the accessories I have for it: 2 batteries, 2 cases, original box/cable/charger/manuals/etc) for an LG Optimus G + cable/charger + case.
Now, I need to point out that a) I'm well versed in ROMs and flashing having been doing so for nearly a decade now, and b) I made the offer to trade (straight up mine w/accessories for the LGOG as noted) with the intent - mind you, the intent of possibly putting that LGOG -> Nexus 4 hack to work, but I just spent the better part of 2 hours reading that Nexus 4 conversion thread and was saddened to see that even in spite of the hack working if it's done right, there are aspects to doing it that I'm not willing to tend with at this point: no microSD card usefulness, the 8GB storage limitation is not good (I don't keep stuff "in the cloud" unless I have no other alternatives), NFC is still useless with the conversion (and I do tend to use Google Wallet actually, and other reasons I find NFC useful), and potentially other things that, again, I need to have working.
So, considering the LGOG is a quad "beast," even at about 1 year old the fact that it's more powerful overall than the Galaxy Note I have makes it a potential device even in spite of not being able to do that Nexus 4 conversion I was interested in. And yes, I know I could probably find someone willing to dump their Nexus 4 for this Galaxy Note pretty fast but, the actual Nexus 4 has more limitations natively than the LGOG does, pretty obviously.
I suppose what I'm asking at this moment is if anyone else in this situation would consider the LGOG for the Galaxy Note a good trade. I use T-Mobile as noted so, I'll have to carrier unlock the LGOG if I do this, not really a big issue since I can buy an unlock code - I will attempt to get one from AT&T first (have a few friends that are AT&T customers and they can give it a shot for me) so using it with T-Mobile is a no brainer.
I know the bootloader is unlockable, that's a big plus of course, and yes there are custom ROMs applenty nowadays - I tend to prefer pure stock as much as possible with as little bloatware as can be stripped or gutted out. And of course with it being a newer device than the Galaxy Note it's considerably better in terms of battery life as well which is a big thing for me especially since the LGOG has a non-removable battery (it can be removed but it's not like the Galaxy Note of course, and I would be looking at getting a brand new battery for it since it's been in use most of this year according to the current owner).
I don't use the stylus aka S-Pen on the Galaxy Note that much; I do like that it's there as an option but the only time I take it out is usually just to show someone that it's got one and can be used for a variety of purposes.
Seems like the LGOG is better than a Nexus 4 in most respects; it's what the Nexus 4 should have been all along is what I see mentioned quite often, and aside from being able to just load pure Android factory images on it, I can't see why the Nexus 4 itself would be considered better in any respects aside from that one thing (it's a Nexus device).
So, if anyone has read this far I appreciate it, but the basic question remains: is the LGOG worthy of me trading away my Galaxy Note? Would any of you - if you had the Note and didn't make full use of everything it offers (S-Pen, etc) - go for this trade and then make the very best of what the LGOG has to offer?

Just as an update, I went ahead and took a chance on the LGOG and did the trade, got an unlock code from the freemyblackberry.com website in about 8 minutes for $4, can't beat that.
Now to get to some experimentin'...
I bought an LGOG a few months ago while I was looking for something to use on T-Mobile. Got it unlocked in a similar fashion and it works fairly well now. I love the speed thanks to the quad core and 2GB of RAM. The Micro SD slot is great as well. I think the previous owner had done the Nexus 4 conversion to the phone, but I went ahead and undid it so I could use the mSD slot. I've been using Houstonn's Rootbox rom for quite a while and it works well for the most part. My only complaints are that my Wifi MAC address randomizes on every boot (probably due to something not getting fixed properly when going back from the Nexus 4 conversion), the battery life isn't spectacular, and the phone doesn't support T-Mobile's 1700MHz 3G band or their Wifi Calling feature. But other than that, everything is great! Screen is beautiful, camera is good, everything is smooth, phone is sized well for your hand, etc.

Paranoid seemed to work very well for me, but for some reason the mic and earpiece on my phone don't work during calls with that ROM.
Edit: The mic and earpiece work now after applying the LTEhybrid33-84.zip modem.
