help swapping phones - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I got a replacement phone for my note and i am trying to swapping units but I am not getting the results I wanted. Right now none of the phones are rooted. I have use app backup and restore, app monster backup and restore pro trial and my backup pro trial. The first 2 do a successful backup and i can restore but my backup pro will not let me restore to another phone in the trial mode...
Anyway, those that restore install the apps but the phones does not Look the same. Icons are not like I had them setup before, all paper walls are not the same, etc...
Am i expecting too much from these app? Is there an app that will effectively clone the phone much like a restore in a computer does? Do I have to be rooted for this to happen and can I unroot the old phone to send it back to at&t and they won't be able to tell?
Thanks!
Ps- I also attempted Kies but the restore fails every time. If I do a restore of settings only it restore that but still all icons are not the same etc...

Unless you are using a launcher that has the option to restore its own settings i think you are out of luck.

So If I install a launcher will it replicate what I have now in the old phone (meaning I wont have to set up the icons on the new launcher on the old phone) I can then back that up and have the setting moved?
How about a nandroid backup? it sounds to me than that is the closest thing to a clone but I have to be rooted to use that. Can I root the old phone then unroot it?

That might work. Seems like just as much energy though

[Q] Back up whole phone to the cloud

Does anybody have a good app that will back up the entire phone... especially the apps and settings.... to an online cloud. The really ideal way would be for it to backup to my home machine via blue tooth or wifi.
Ideally, the backup app would have a scheduler so I wouldn't have to worry about it.
The closest thing I found was myBackupPro, but I tried the free version and it didn't work. Told me that I had to purchase the pro version to get enough online space to back up my phone. Stupid.
Anyway, if you have a recommendation, I would love to hear it.
My backup pro is great and worth it

There has to be something else. Its hard to trust an app where the free "trial" version doesn't even work as expected.
You can always uninstall and get your money back if it doesn't work how you expected in 24hrs

1) Why the hell would I try and application when the trial doesn't work? Refund or no. And, I am more than likely not going to need to reinstall the backup within 24hrs..... at least I hope not. AND, the only way to test it is to do the factory reset and then hope the backup works. Why bother when the free trial fails??????
2) There must be an alternative that is more trustworthy?
Is this thread surveyed by mybackup pro shills?

Cease to amaze. You asked for help and suggestions for apps. I've used the app on my G1, MTS, and now the Vibrant and it replaces everything. Including location of homescreen icons, settings, contacts, apps (short of protected ones), etc...
And the trial is to give you a feel for the app btw...
You can also try Lookout, don't know that it backs up apps, but does backup data. Will TEST FOR YOU now...
Ok, lookout only backs up contacts and pictures. Sorry, my backup pro is probably gonna be your best solution... Take it or leave it...
I would recommend Titanium Backup, and then you can copy your backup files to the cloud through Dropbox. It's not an all-in-one solution, but it should work.

MIQ will back up pics, contacts, notes, mms/sms, call log, and a few other things(but not apps)
Sprite Backup will back up the ENTIRE phone(apps included)
I was also looking for a solution like this...it's a shame google hasn't come out with a program to at least do this one task that iTunes does so easily for the iPhone.
To accomplish something similar I've rooted my phone and used Rom manager to make a nandroid backup.
I have heard a bit about sprite backup.... but doesn't that only work on 2.2.
I have a vibrant, so not quite at 2.2 yet.

Does nandroid work for X10 mini?

How do u back up on titanium? I can back up each app one by one, but that takes forever. is there a batch back up? Im using the free one btw.
can titanium restore my phone after a hardrest?
thanks
You can do a batch backup with Titanium. Options>Batch>Backup All user+system apps, then click 'Run'
I did this just last night and it worked perfectly. I haven't tried out the restore feature though.
When i go to batch, I see a list of things, and when i press back up app. nothing happens. it brings me back to the app list.

A common problem.... Either kill the app and rerun, or more likely uninstall and reinstall. I wish the developer would sort out this issue. Mine doesn't last a week before I have to reinstall it.....
I uninstalled titan backup and reinstalled it.
now when i try to restore apps it don't work? WTF
this thing sucks, I want a refund.
Does anyone know of a better app?

Titanium Backup extract from nandroid??

Guys I have made an old fashio nandroid with all my updated apps and stuff. Now When I go to titanium backup and then press menu button and etract from nandroid it asks me which nandroid when i choose I then have the option to select which apps , when I have selected and click restore it just stays on 0% and doesnt do anything, By the way the nandroid is a ICS custom rom and I am now On a stock rooted JB rom. But that shouldnt matter right only the apps should I tried more then one app its always same thing nothing gets done. How can I restore my apps without having to load the whole nandroid then copying the titanium folder and then AGAIN flashing the JB and pasting the folder then restore the usual backup way. Any other way to do it from my nandroid ?
I've had problems in the past restoring from normal titanium backups. It's usually caused by a certain app that stops it.
Not sure if your problem is the same but try selecting just 1 random app and restore.

Are you talking about Extracting from Nandroid? Its an option in titanium pro.
It allows you to restore apps straight out of a nandroid backup. But when I do it nothing happens just sits on 0% for ever. Makes me angry!!
Maybe try AppExtractor from the play store. Worth a go.

thaat program worked perfectly
If you are restoring alot of apps I have seen it do this. It will just stay at 0% if you just leave it eventually it does finish you might not think it will finish and it appears stuck but it will finish

I've run into pretty much the same thing. HOWEVER I am trying to restore apps that I had on my GS II Skyrocket to my new GS III. App extractor wouldn't find the nandroid backup, and wouldnt let me point it to it.
Using TiBu Pro, I cna get in, find the apps, I've tried both Batch and single, it shows complete, BUT the app never shows up. I know it's got to be an operator error.
Operator is standing by.

I know this thread is pretty old and hopefully you've found a solution, but I've been researching high and low for a similar thing - to extract data out of a nandroid backup, and finally found the solution.
In my case, the app would NOT show in the nandroid backup extraction list in TiBu PRO, even if it was there. So, I installed the latest version of the app on the market, restored data ONLY, and it worked like a charm.
Let us know if it works for you! This is on the Verizon I535 however..not sure if that will matter. Don't see why it would.
but where it is saving the apps I am restoring from TWRP backups?

Not operator error so far as I can tell. I am having the same difficulties. I find that when I use my super root level file browser and go ahead and make a data folder for the app then TiBu Pro will be able to restore the app and its data, but otherwise no go. I think that TiBu Pro - for some reason - doesn't have permission to create folders. So without the folder, no installation can happen.
Does anyone know how to set it so that it can? That would make my life much easier.

Titanium vs Helium [opinion]

So I bought Titanium a loooooooooooong time ago but never used it to backup everything between rom installs. I started to do that recently.
I've been using Helium but I still see everyone mentioning how awesome Titanium is. What's the difference and which do you prefer?
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda premium
Helium is great in that it does not require root.
Titanium is the best backup app there is. I've used it forever, and I've never had a problem with it.

I purchased helium. And email the dev like two months ago never heard from him. And I wish I would have gotten titanium instead. Helium is very slow at backing apps and restoring them.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Helium just uses the adb backup method so while it's nice to have in app form you might as well just use adb and save some money. It's also extremely slow as mentioned.
I use helium and I like it, but yeah it is slow.
Don't forget Rom Toolbox Pro. Its cheaper than Titanium Pro and has tons more features.
Been using Titanium for many years, lots of functionality to it, just explore. Never tried Helium before, maybe I'll take a look.
titanium with boxdrop or google drive to back up anything number 1
I am very unhappy with Helium. I have been using TiBu I was too day since the D1 days. Been a solid foundation for my backup needs. I do use MyBackup Pro though for my call logs and sms/mms backup. I know TiBu can do it but it is more of habit for me than anything.
The reason I am unhappy with Helium is cause it is slow, doesn't seem to ever back things up properly to internal storage or to the cloud, and lastly restoring something takes as long as the IRS to process your refund.

wrong section. reported to be moved to the Apps section.
Titanium Backup serves all of my needs perfectly! Embarrassingly it took me a while to figure out how to back up with it though =P
I've had no probs with TB
I've been using Titanium backup since the first day I rooted. I have purchased Helium and Helium pro, and I used them for a while for some stuff. But now that I have Titanium all figured out, it's the ONLY app I use to backup before flashing a new rom. It does everything I need. Back up calls, texts, app and data. I was even able to transfer my call log and text messages from my S3 to my new S4 very easily.
Titanium backup is all you need.

Backup and restore on S6

Hey guys. I ve been using android since the dark ages of Donut and Gingerbread... But have never backed up so that I can restore from Google servers.
I ve been hearing stories about people getting all the apps back on the new phone, exactly like they were on the old one.
As I am changing phones a lot, especially S6, which I am.trying different colors of regular and edge, just wanted to ask how exactly do I do the backup and restore?
I mean, if I check Automatically backup to Google servers, How do I know when the backup is finished? How do I restore everything on the new phone? Will it backup my settings too? I dont need to backup pics or music, just the damned settings and app data, so that I dont have to setup manually each time.
You know what I mean, I am sure...
Thank you for the advice..
