Hi guys,
ODIN is not recognizing my player, do you guys know where to find the drivers?
~ANYTHING BESIDES KIES~ because KIES did not help.
I need ODIN to recognize it to flash 4.0.4 for the 4.0.

If you had checked my how-to flash with odin/heimdall, you would have found the drivers page here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1922461
Also you can't flash ICS with odin...
You have to install the drivers while in download mode if you want to flash anything.
then how? cuz u need to for the 4.0...nd im talking about 4.0.4 im pretty sure

By CWM. You maybe want to say that you need to flash a custom kernel in order to flash ICS.
yeah, thats it... but it doesnt seem to recognize it and right now, im outside

Use odin to flash the kernal or if your phone is rooted cwm.
You can find odin in intratec official firmware thread inthe developmemt section

Hi,
doesnt matter - both work fine (1.83 & 3 or something like that)
easier to flash via cwm - but try odin first

Please be more informative next time you post a question. Are you on 4.0.4 or what? And are you running stock rom (rooted/not rooted) or a custom one?

If you have the ROM that you get when you got the cellphone, then you will adviced if you have a update from samsung.
If you have a Custom ROM based on CM 10.1 [Google It] or AOKP [Google it] you can update in CWM [google it] without any wipe [Google it]
If you have a custom ROM based on Samsung, you need to wipe all the data and install it via CWM or ODIN.
^_^
sry for my english.

About your first point: thats the whole problem he stated.
About the second part: you're not completely right. If the OP indeed has a custom rom, then the updates from it (AOSP, AOKP or Samsung based) must be done like the developer says in his thread. @OP: in that case you won't get a 'Software Update'-notification, but maybe your rom has the Update Me-app or anything like it, so you can flash it through CWM.
If you (OP) are on a stock rom, then you have to flash the updates manually through Odin. However, if you're on 4.0.4, there is no update because it's the latest firmware.

I could do but I consider this too much effort inseam of just auto updating OTA plus I have a MacBook so no access to Odin anymore

And did you considered rooting your device? In that way you have to access to the latest build that are available.

I'm sorry, I've missed that part about Windows/Mac. I believe there's a different method for that, but I personally wouldn't know how..

Try thanking the bloke above for giving you a steer on what you might need to do, go away, do a little research on Kies lite and then come back later if you need more help. If not, root and install any ROM that your heart desires.

YOU DON'T NEED ROOT! just to install firmware!

May I know why you are not able to use Odin?
That is a very simple way to root.
It depends on your current firmware/kernel. I was able to flash and never used Odin I've rooted the phone using exynos abuse as I had really vulnerable kernel, then I installed Recovery by rom manager and flashed stuff from the open recovery. But make sure that exynos abuse works for your firmware before using it and make sure you know what you are doing and don't touch anything else then root option in this program
I install samsung kies. But still when i connect my S3 to my PC nothing happen. Sorry for my bad english

The date of purchase means nothing. I know that you have stock firmware, but there are many stock firmware versions (even if all are 4.1.2) and they have different vulnerabilities. I was at XXELL4 kernel at stock, which is old and vulnerable, but you may be on one of the newest kernel which can't be abused without ODIN. Please take more time to read guides and get more familiar with the phone, as your next post might start by "I've bricked my phone, please help" You will survive few days at stock rom and it seems that you don't know the basics

KIES & Odin do not play well together, hence you should deinstall KIES in case you want to use Odin, will save you a lot of time solving connection issues.
Otherwise as mentioned.

Do not use Kies!
All you need to do is install the drivers of your phone and once that is
done and Kies is opened infront of you open, go to
Task Manager > Processes > Remove All Kies Related Applications
and then use Odin to root your phone.
1. Provide us with kernel version.
2. Are you on ICS/JB?
3. Are you on OS X? If you are use Heimdall; Mac alternative to Odin. Otherwise there is no reason why you should use anything other than Odin/Heimdall, just flash CF Root.
what do you need root for? if you don't know the difference between Kies and Odin, don't root it, you'll brick it
