Hello guys,
I have a question about that PACman rom from this thread. Currently I have this ParanoidAndroid rom with modified FXP136 kernel. Have I to do a full wipe of my phone to install it? Teoretically this and that are same (4.1) version of rom and I don't really want to delete all apps configs, PA settings, etc.
Or if I have to, there is second question - how can I backup EVERYTHING (except rom of course, CWM backup is not what I want) - this include apps, application configs, wifi settings, last calls, sms (ok, this can be skipped, because I already knew and used SMS Backup And Restore or something like that), even icons, etc from Trebutchet?
Ouh, I would do a nandroid backup and after that:
1. Flash pacman without wiping data, flash the recommend kernel for pacman and see if it boots, if not restore your nandroid backup.
2. Back up your data/apps using titanium backup, maybe titanium could backup trebutchet with all data (+icons), but I'm not sure

If you don't care about the apps that you have installed, and just want to save the PA config then you can use the backup part of paranoid preferences. Then when you install the PAC rom just restore with your PA settings.
Cheers,
Evil.
Thanks for your respond.
I wiped /cache partition and installed this PACman rom. It runs fine without wiping, just Paranoid settings was overwritten, but it's not big problem at all, whole settings of the phone stayed. Next day I'll write if I'll get any problem with this or not (I have to test everything).
By the way, can anyone tell me which apks or just applications are in this PACman rom by default? I want to check if there is everything what should be.

Hi, i've got myself a new SGS2 a month ago (first android phone) and i rooted it with CF-ROOT yesterday.
Im running Android 2.3.3 with KF3 kernel, and my question is if i can try out CyanogenMod by using "Restore" in CWM, and go back to my own stock ROM when i please ? Will all of my settings and apps save when i'll jump back to stock ? i did a backup already (backup of apps and data aswell separately) and wanted to make sure before doing anything. Oh and, when i'll install CyanogenMod, will i be able to restore my apps AND all data (photos, videos, random files) on it ?

Yes it is possible to switch between the stock rom and cyanogen.
That's how I use it.
I have a backup of my stock rom and another with cyanogen on it.
Normally I use the stock rom. After a few new nightlies I make a new backup of my stock rom and restore my cyanogen rom. Then I update cyanogen to see what changed and if it is ready to be used as my daily rom. If it's not I perform a backup of my updated cyanogen and restore my stock rom.
And so on until Cyanogen is good enough.
Things like photos, video, music etc should be fine (which doesn't mean a backup isn't a good idea some people lost their pictures at the beginning.)
You could backup/restore your apps with Titanium Backup. But I wouldn't recommend it. It's better to start from a nice and clean source without old rubbish.

just remember your original kernel and ROM.. other than that everything should be fine. Always backup your backup lol
Hy guys,
I was looking for a good tutorial on the forum about how to keep config & apps between various ROMs, and if it was necessary to do it if you wanted to update the same ROM.
I did not find anything that specify this exactly.
I know that there are some tool to backup apk and then you can restore them, but its only the App
AppManager
Titanium backup
Then you have some apps to backup your ROM, but you can not restore parameters into another ROM (Cyanogen params, Accounts, etc...).
ROMManager
ClockWorkMod 3.2
Then I was wondering if you can flash different kernel without changing (wiping) anything in your system?
And if you need to wipe your data if you change between GingerDXv19 -> GingerDXv21?
And if you need to do it if you change between GingerDXv19->MiniCM7-2.2?
PS: I have already rooted the phone and installed ClockWorkMod 3.2
well, switching is not really possible, you must flash your kernel, because afaik gingerdx & minicm have different kernels.
if you want to switch roms, make a backup of each rom with clockworkmod(the apps are included in the backup). flash the kernel with the tool, and voila
Dear community,
actually I am not quite sure if i should change from stock ROM Android 4.0.4 to a custom ROM like KA10.2 Xperia [4.0.4]SSpeed or [4.0.4]MooDeD ICS 90.6. I recently updated from stock 2.3.7 to stock 4.0.4 and luckily all my apps, userdata, configuration etc. were restored perfectly (nice). I know this wont work for a custom ROM (because unlocking bootloader needs to wipe data).
Without root I am not able to use Titanium Backup and I am not sure if MyBackup is able to backup the data for all Apps? At the moment I have 152 Apps installed and for me its very important to save the gameprogress from Dead Space, Modern Combat 3, GTA III Uncut and so on.
What can I do to backup everything like in Titanium backup? I also want to backup all data from "face unlock" because I optimized it so much (with beard, without beard, with cap and without, differnt hairstyles etc.), how can I do that ?
I think your only option is adb backup then. But it's not too stable...
I just did this the other day.
I used the stock Backup & restore app. It creates .smec-fullbackup in your sdcard and can save all your apks, texts, contacts, browser, etc. The only issue I had going to KA10.2 was that it did not have the Backup & restore app. I was able to pull it from my nandroid of stock ICS. I believe it was called Backup-wizard.apk.
edit: I am unsure about the face unlock stuff. I was able to backup some apks and restore them with my save data.

OK at the moment I am sure the ROM I will chose is [4.0.4]MooDeD ICS 90.6. I created a backup with the integrated backup tool. Does anyone know if stock backup app is integrated in this ROM? Otherwise, krazyazy can you upload this .apk anyway ?^^
You can stay with stock ROM and root if you want. Flash ICS Advanced Kernel using fastboot, turn on, wait, turn off, Flash original ROM Kernel with fastboot (if you extract the kernel) or with flashtool and voilá! Root on stock!
I use stock ROM and Advanced ICS Kernel Its nice!

I think the actual issue is with unlocking the device, because the op states that they don't have root and mentions that unlocking will wipe data.
Good evening everybody.
I've recently rooted my phone and installed a costum recovery. Now i'd like to say good bye to the samsung stock ROM and install a costum one (Android Revolution HD probably). But after flashing i'd like to find my phone as it was before! More precisely, messages, contacts, settings, apps (with user settings) should still be there; i'd like to backup everything is on the phone and restore it after flashing. To do that can i use Titanium Backup? It can backup it all? Are there other ways to do that?
Moreover, if i get the Siyah kernel and install the CM10 too, massages and apps are shared between the 2 systems, or everyone has its own?
Thanks in advance!
You can back up user apps and messages with titanium, restoring them safely in your new rom. You can't do the same with system apps or settings - you'll just break the new rom.
Contacts are restored when you log into google.
....additionally,I suggest using a third party launcher like nova, you can back up your layout, and it does a brilliant job of restoring widgets too, also remember to make a nandroid of your working Rom so if the flash goes wrong you can restore, and don't forget to back up your efs
Ok, thank you very much! And what's about dualboot? Is there a way to share massages, contacts and apps between the 2 systems (for example, if i send a message and then i change ROM, i can find that sent massage in the just booted ROM too)??
EDIT: Thank you too slaphead20. I didn't see your post.. I'll absolutely make a nandroid and EFS backup! How can i do the EFS backup? Simply from recovery? Can i use the GS3 Unified Toolkit?

You can, but it's complicated,I don't think siyah works with 4.2.x, I would stay away from dual booting until you are a bit more experienced.....I personally don't bother with it anymore, too much of a headache!
Hi everyone,
I ve a touchwiz omega rom 4.1.2 rom installed perfectly running on my S3 I9300. I ve flashed countless roms, kernels, etc all my phone´s life without any problem.
A month ago I ve odexed the whole system with Universal odex script (if this info is usefull). Used the main rom now odexed for a whole month working perfectly.
The problem is that now I want to move to AOSP and I cant install certain apps when I flash a new rom.
I cant get to install tasker now for example.
my first rom is working perfect like I ve told you before.. I ve made a complete TWRP backup of all partitions (data, system, cache, delvkik, preload, etc) just to be safe, and started tring to move to an AOSP rom.
SO:
I ve made a COMPLETE phone reset.. using MEGAWIPE.. formated ALL partitions with TWRP, internal SD, preload, system, data, cache, dalvkik, everything)
Then I ve installed CM10.1 as first rom..
Cm10.1 boots, then I go to developer options and enable USB debuggin, and in security enable Unknown sources..
- The installed titanium backup and tried to restore the tasker backup of my first rom.. didnt work..
- then I ve downloaded another tasker 4.1u3 version from aptoide. --> "app not installed"
- Then I ve downloaded 3 different version of the tasker.apk from the web--> "app not isntalled" error when I tried to install.
- Tried using my backup Pro.. failed
- tried installed manually the apk in data/app.. doesnt work
- tried different roms, kernels,
- tried restoring and old twrp backup, backup the tasker on that rom, clean install a new rom and restore the backup.. failed.
Performed a new whole phone reset.. installed temasek cm 10.2.. run tasker.apk on the new clean rom.. -> App not installed..
Same happens with LMT launcher.. even when downloading it from play store..
I ve restored my omega 4.1.2 touchwiz odexed and everything is OK. But I cant manage to install a new rom a port all my apps to the new rom, because no matter what, tasker, LMT, LINK2sd, and other apps just DONT get installed..
I ve 350 user apps.. when I install a new rom, and use titanium backup to restore, 320 aprox get restored without problem, and 30 apps (including tasker) just cant get installed no matter what
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
UPDATE: I ve installed tasker.. Gapps needed to be installed.
I still have 20 apps I cannot install, including LMT launcher 1.912..
Solved..
Tips..
-If you odex your data/app then you cant restore those apps with titanium backup in another rom.. (so keep a backup off all apps before odexing, and restore that and then backup DATA from those apks to new rom)
- Some apps require gapps installed to work (tasker)
-If there is data from an app in data/data then you cant install the app if you dont delete first
-If theres is an .odex left behind in data/app then you cant install the app again without deleting odex
