Hi,
I always seem to have issues connecting my HTC Desire (running a custom ROM) to USB. I once had some software on my PC, but can't remember the name, and it sits in the notifcation area, and when you connect your phone, it launches up and installs itself and creates a link for you. I think the icon for the software looked like an 8-bit image of a pda connect with a line.
I know the description is abit vague, but can anyone help me? I have tried looking myself, but cant find it.

Dear All,
after plug my startrek to usb activesync starts and identified it and the local network connected but after seconds it disconnect from the activesync.
i'd search all the net for a solution but not finding any.
mabey the drivers?
anybody could give me the drivers for the activesync 4.5 on starttrek
thanks alot
Maddening, I just went through the same thing. Drill down into Microsoft's site, there's some additional info on reconfiguring your usb port, it was just a button, on/off kind of thing so if it's X try Y and vice versa. That solved it for me, sorry I can't be more specific but I didn't write anything down. I did get the initial link from the activesync trouble shooter however.
in my case my firewall (zone labs) was the cause.
thanks alot for replay
i've went through all the microsofts' but nothing, it still connect and disconnect.

Hi, extract the Reg file from this Zip and run it on your PC, n reboot. Had a similar problem on mine, and it worked
Guys, I'm back again with another dumb question.
While running ICS 4.0.4 on my HTC One X, I was very happy that the phone was connecting to each computer as external USB storage.
Lately the phone received the JB update, which made the OS 4.1.1
Since then, when I connect the phone to Mac it requires Android File Transfer, which is simply POS from my point of view; totally impractical.
And when I connect the phone to Windows, it behaves like a camera but like Android File Transfer window, quite useless and file types are not being recognized properly, icons look different then what they actually are, etc...
What happened to the phone, anyone knows?
Android upgrade changes the previous nice connection type, I guess...
But is there any chance to go back to that type of connection while running JB?
Cheers.
Just got my dna... Never had issues with just connecting it to the computer and being able to access the storage. I can't seem to drag and drop onto this phone. Do I need htc sync installed for that to work? Can't start root process until I figure it out. Thanks.
Nothing is stupid but reading helps
Yes you need htc sync or android MTP drivers installed then it will show up as a drive when connected
Ya the MTP install keeps failing. Just Google for those drivers?
I installed the HTC drivers found in the all in one kit thread, but still failing...
I'll try htc sync. Sorry... Long day and annoyed haha
Maybe its write protected? I have issue when i want to drop files on sd but it didnt work and i jusj realzed that the paste and delete command is missing.
Or just turn off the mtp mode. Cmiiw

I'm trying to just copy over a simple text file... Only thing that shows up looks like a camera. Opened it to see my folders on internal memory. But won't let me drag over. Now doesn't show up at all. Installed sync, no luck. MTP just fails installing.
I am having zero luck...
Could it be something that I have on the computer from previous HTC phones? I've had the Inc, TB and Rez...
MTP fails every time... Can't just access storage. Installed HTC drivers from all in one root thread, installed sync... Nothing. I'm confused...
FWIW I am turning debugging off, yet as soon as I plug it in to the computer it's turning on automatically...
I've checked in cmd "adb devices" and its showing the device there.
Just checked and my rezound still connects no problem... No luck with DNA
Here is where I'm at with it...
On a separate computer, I had no issues getting everything the computer to recognize the phone and allow me to drag and drop onto it.
On the computer with issues (mine), I have all drivers installed. I can give the phone ADB commands and they work. I can reboot into bootloader and all that jazz. What I can't do tho is just access the storage. When I plug it in my computer is recognizing it as a camera. A prompt for scanner and camera wizard will pop up and if I go into My Computer it shows the phone, with a camera as the icon. I can double click it, and see all the folders and files that are on the phone. If I try to drag and drop a picture, music file or even a text file, the mouse icon changes to a circle with a line through it (no smoking sign type thing).
Only other issue with plugging it in is the MTP install keeps failing. Is that an SDK related issue? I may have an older SDK, but I think it is at least ICS related. Or is it something else altogether. The error states something is missing from the INF file or wrong with the INF file. Can't remember exactly.
I got the phone rooted and what not, I'm just trying to be able to put a few music and picture files on it at this point.
Any help I would greatly appreciate. Thank you.
This is a long shot but what USB cable are you using? Is it OEM or just one laying around? Did you try another cable?
You need to go at the MTP install failure from a Windows troubleshooting perspective instead of the HTC or android perspective.
I had this problem for a long time on my computer which was a VERY nice rig besides that issue. So finally when I got a device that needed MTP, I spent about 15 minutes on Google, made some changes in device manager and the registry, and fixed the problem completely.

Thanks, this solves it!
I recently received an Omate TrueSmart:
Model: TrueSmart
Android 4.2.2
Baseband version: MOLY.WR8.W1315.MD.WG.MP.V 4.P1,2013/11/09 14:19
Kernel version 3.4.5
Omate version OUI2.0
Custom build version Omate_TrueSmart_20140120.15 4604_V2.0
This is my first 'cellular' device (yeah, about time I reached the 21st century...) for which I still have to procure a proper plan and SIM card, but in the meantime, still trying to get familiar.
I have read a few of the postings here, found and installed the 'All-tools(14-2-15)', ran the 'UniversalAdbDriverSetup.msi' and 'DPInst64.exe' on my PC (Windows 7/64), and see two 'devices' on my PC when I link the TS using the USB connection; both of which are listed as 'removable media' that request a CD to be inserted (!) when clicked. I was hoping to see a tree structure of files that could be explored, where files could be added, but this does not appear to be so.
I ran the "MTK Droid Root & Tools V2.5.2" and proceeded with a 'Backup', and since 1.18 G of data was saved, I assume that there is some way to get to the device file system. What am I missing here?
Also, since I have not yet got the SIM, I can nevertheless access internet using my home WiFi. The 'setup email' baffles me a bit. I try to specify my gmail account, but the keyboard takes so much room, I cannot see what I am typing. I tried connecting a Bluetooth external keyboard, but the TS did not acknowledge it. It is obvious that I am missing a lot here. Where to start? Is there some kind of primer on the TS? The 'owner manual' is pretty light on the software tools...
Thanks for any help

The Bluetooth keyboard I connected, a Logitech Keyboard Case for Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 worked properly and immediately after I paired it.
Sometimes Bluetooth on the TrueSmart just fails, probably due to errors in the TS firmware. If so, you need to hard reset the TS and it might start working again. To do that, either pull the battery or disable Quickboot under Accessibility Settings and power down. The TS comes with Quickboot enabled, so powering down does not reset it.

You should not proceed any further until after you have patched your TS.
As far as viewing files, normally you will only see the contents of the storage area (internal storage and SDCard) when attached to the PC. You will not have access to other areas.
Hey guys.
I'm hoping you can shed a little light here as i'm starting to get frustrated.. Now i've seen various similar threads along the same lines so it's obviously a common problem and anyone who's offered a suggestion to the fix on other threads, i've tried to no avail..
I've had a DHD prior to this and done the whole rooting/ROM'ing thing regularly so quite used to procedures and what to do, but that was slightly different as i did it via the advanced hack kit.. This phone doesn't seem as straightforward to do. But about 3 weeks ago i bit the bullet and unlocked my phone with the intention of rooting and ROM'ing soon after.. Everything went well and the phone has been working perfectly, no issues at all and i've activated the developer option aswell and it's USB debugged box is ticked...
However, a couple of days ago i tried plugging it in to the laptop to transfer some music onto it, but both the two USB 2.0 ports on the right don't recognise it, i get the USB device not recognised message, anything else works fine in them, the only remaining port, a USB 3.0 on the left sees the phone and does allow me to access it, sometimes i can see everything straight away, sometimes i get a blank box and have to wait and the green bar takes ages to load along the bar at the top.. I've even had what appeared to be arabic symbols at one point where it should say Internal storage.. That confused me very much!! But now it won't let me transfer anything other than a single image file to the root. I did this as a test.. It transferred it straight away with no problems, but if i try adding anything else after that, it just hangs on the copying dialog box and either i have to close it or it does it for me a couple of minutes later with the "can't copy file" and "skip this file" options.. I've also tried it on the home computer which works fine but still leaves me with the same problem. Both are Win7 64bit.
I've uninstalled everything HTC from my laptop, uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers supplied in the fastboot folder which i was told to download for the unlocking process.. Now, i don't want to have to download HTC Sync as i don't want to access my phone via that, i'd rather just use file explorer and ditch the bloatware.. I'm not sure if i'm running the correct drivers and this is the problem, but i can't seem to find them anywhere.. P.S. I'm in the UK so this is the international version..
Any help would be great as i'm tearing my hair out... I know it's probably something simple but it's refusing to work..
Hey i hope this helps

Olrite so i guess you are dealing with the same i dealt with a while ago when i was on cayanogen mod 11 on my HTC one M7 International ... there are many alternatives to transfer stuff from phone to Laptop but first lets talk about the normal one
Method 1 which you should try is ....
* Download the HTC sync manager .. its ok if you dont wanna use it to transfer data .. just install it ...
* ok so now the important one .. make sure you have window media player installed on your computer ....
okay so why windows media player ??
Well it contains all the MTP drivers you need to connect your phone to your pc ...
* you can restart your system now .. (Optional)
* now connect your device with debugging on ... grab the notification bar click on USB related notification .. and choose MTP or something like that ...i mean don't choose HTC sync manger .. choose the other one
* Now if everything went well you will se your storage in My computer ... and in Windows media player too...
Method 2....
Well if nothing works then download an app called Air Droid ...
it have some nice functionality ...
you will get to know how to use it after installing it ...
by chance if the local link given in the app does not works make a hotspot .. connect your computer to it and open a browser like chrome .. and go to 192.168.1.1:8888
Note : port 8888 is pre configured in the app so if you changed it .. use the dirrent port you used ..
If you are not laptop is not connected with your phone's hotspot then your phone and computer should be on the same network ..
Good luck ... hit thanks if it works just to let me know

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to run through the options.. I really appreciate that.. Unfortunately it seems nothing in terms of transfer via USB works (at least with this cable, it's the only one i have so can't try another at this point) on this phone anymore, i don't know why the sudden glitches, it's been working fine since i've had it but just decided to stop connecting this last couple of days, so whether that's down to drivers or the cable being dodgy etc i have no idea, but the Air droid app works beautifully and i can now transfer anything and everything, it has such a great UI too so thank you for pointing me in the direction of that.. Without it, and you, i'd still be stuck.. So i guess i no longer need to worry about cables or drivers anymore so thanks again!
