Sorry for this noob Q' but is there a pre installed tun.ko file on every custom roms here (Viking Rom v7.2 in particular)?
tried searching the system using root explorer but i cant seem to find it, tried installing tun.ko installer from apps store but it wont install.
thanks in advance. . .
Assuming Samsung didn't change anything from update4->5 (unlikely since the update5-based kernel I'm running still has it enabled), you don't need a tun.ko module because the support is built into the kernel by default: https://github.com/sgs3/GT-I9300_Kernel/blob/master/arch/arm/configs/m0_00_defconfig#L1318

you probably need to flash the wifi modules for whatever kernal you are using. Simply save them to your phone and flash with xRec or CW
wifi error
I think i flashed that
could you help me to find the file?
Thank you very much
Hi there,
I've got the same problem but with another ROM.
I have Wolfs TW Gingerbread and X10_2.3.3_DooMKernel-v06-FS-BootManager-v2.0.ftf with x10_gb_DooMKernel-v06-FS_wifi modules but there's still a wifi error...
The wifi module has to be flashed in xrecovery over the install custom zip option, right?
Edit1: Urgh, i see, i flashed wrong kernel version...had v05a instead of v06... :S
Edit2: So, now i flashed the things i wrote above, and i have still the error...i'm going mad xd
Edit3: Call me dumb or whatever, i finally figured out i had to reinstall the ROM after installing Kernel when the ROM was already booted once ;D

Read DoomKernel thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1253853
Dudes, fear not you're not going mad re: DoomKernel v6 WiFi modules.
I'm NOT clear on the specifics(long time ago) but at least I can direct a different line of questions.
The WiFi and or any *.ko in /system/lib/modules/*.ko is wiped on boot by /etc/init.d/00modules.
00modules is a text file and can be viewed (I wouldn't edit it)
You'll see the script clears all *.ko and then replaces them with those found in /system/kernel/${KVER}/*.ko
It uses busybox to do this.
I guess the logic behind it is, that different kernels when booted will use different *.ko.
So.... what I did was extract the wifi.ko and other *.ko files out of the .zip and then place them in /system/kernel/${KVER}/ where ${KVER} is you kernel version
If there is already *.ko file in system/kernel/${KVER}/*.ko I'd back them up before I overwrote them with new ones.
The new *.ko in /system/kernel/${KVER}/*.ko need the following permission rw-r--r--
This worked for me (almost years ago) when I was having problems.
NOW, I'm not saying this is the answer, but this may be an area to explore if WiFi reverts to an "failing" version each time you boot no matter if you install the new modules in /system/lib/modules or not.
Hope this helps...

Now since the version number has changed in bala's rom therefore tun.ko installer is unable to download the proper file.

I would like to request tun.ko module.
I'm testing VPN service today, but can't run because of the said module is missing.
Can please someone provide the file and show how to install?

It's for example in nightelf's kernel. But You have to create dir /dev/net if not exist and make symbolic link from /dev/tun to /dev/net/tun
Download tun.ko installer from market/google play

edit: if you really want to try your vpn service then switch to CM (cyanogenmod) and you dont need to configure anything. btw, are you using the openvpn settings from the market or the built in one? coz i use the first.
im using codename9 rom now.. but the kernel is on experimental full..does it supports the tun.ko??? please help..im a newbie.. sorry for my english..
Hello,
today I got my update to 4.1.1. Besides a few minor issues the biggest problem is that the Transformer reboots when I start cifs manager.
There were no more reboots after I renamed cifs.ko and md4.ko but of course I coudn't mount any shares without the modules. I searched around and found something for the Nexus which didn't work either but nothing for the Transformer yet.
Any idea where I can find them? Some threads show that others got the updates a bit earlier, so perhaps the modules are already around somewhere. Or would some kind soul compile them if they don't yet exist?
Many thanks
Armin
by the way: Is there a way to stop the almost permanent update notifications? I would have liked to wait with the update but it is impossible to really work with the tablet because every few minutes it asks again if I would like to update -- even though I selected "wait for a day".
So I gave up after some time and allowed the update and now I don't have cifs mounts any longer...
I got same Problem, too. Maybe a custom kernel for stock rom?

I would look at the custom roms that have CIFS capabilities, download them and pick them apart with blobtools2 and ext2explorer.exe to see what modules you can poach for the stock rooted rom you are running.
Perhaps though a simple post in the thread or email to the author might yield the modules you need without that work.

I tried this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1803557 but could not find a cifs.ko in it. Do you know
one that has the modules?

Tried that too, I asked someone who provided an earlier version in a PM -- but no answer yet.
So, still no luck and hoping for someone to just post the beasts...

Hello !
I installed few days ago a custom kernel (which is called White kernel) on my Galaxy Young (with a 2.3.6 stock ROM) as it supports ZRAM, but I had a little problem. I tried to use an init.d script to enable it but it doesn't work : It shows "invalid argument" in the log file, but it does when I put manually the commands in Terminal Emulator. How to fix it please ?
Thanks in advance guys.

Well, the developer and Galaxy's subforum are no longer active (because only few users use this kernel).
