just flash Siyah kernel via Odin. You don't need root access to do that

You need root access first before you can flash a kernel via recovery (factory recovery).
I'll advise you to just flash the kernel via Odin.
However, If you still want to use the recovery option I can post a link for you.
You can always flash updates via Odin. Much faster.

[Q] Which CWM version

Hi, I am running an ics custom rom from rizdroid 19100xwlp4-19100xxlps-19100luxlp1 and I would like to flash clockworkmod to my rooted phone via Odin but not sure which version I need. Any help please or advise please.
Alan
I use Siyah Kernel which has CMW 5.5.0.4.
you can get this kernel from here:
http://www.gokhanmoral.com
Thanks, do I just flash my phone using Oldi with the Kernal or is there anything else I have to do?
If your phone is I9100 international model, just put the Siyah kernel TAR file on the ODIN PDA and flash.....
How did you flash the custom rom "rizdroid 19100xwlp4-19100xxlps-19100luxlp1"
can you give us the link/thread for this ROM
Here is rizdroid's custom rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487&page=416
I flashed used Odin, and my phone is an international 19100

my friend, this is not a custom ROM this is official ICS rom, after installing from ODIN, if you have followed the rooting method of the same thread instruction, (CF-root) you should have already a latest Clockworkmode installed in your Phone. no need of flashing again any kernels.
to checkout this just shut down the phone and press Vol-up+home+power button and hold for few seconds to appear the galaxy logo and keep pressing til it blinks and appear again then release.....you will get the CWM recovery
Hi all I did was flash the rom via Odin and I have an app that checks if you are rooted and it says I am but when I do the test that you said to do I get the Android system recovery not cwm recovery.

CF-Root for your firmware is not found so just flash Siayah from ODIN, make sure flashing file should be .TAR and selected from PDA.

Thanks mate all done now and all ok. I bought the app to clear the yellow triangle which worked also. Any tips you have for a rooting noob would be much appreciated.

The first thing you have to do after rooting is Nandroid back up and EFS back up of your phone...
Dont be after the shortcuts and tips, read as much as possible, There is no substitute for READING for COMPREHENSION.
these STICKIES will give you the knowledge about SGS2 from basic to the deepest.....
Try the N. E. A. K. Kernel with the modded cwm, works very well!

It is not terribly required to change your Kerenel every time you flash, the suitable kernel already packed by devs for their ROM is more than enogh for running the Phone...but further it is your choice to change the kernel after exploring the reviews and features of the custom kernels and decide whether it will give you any advantage or not....Also no need to worry about Clockworkmode it will be their already on the (allmost all) Custom rom.
the kernel which I suggested that time was mainly for you to get a Clockworkmode recovey and rooting which anable you to flash roms further
NOTE : Once you have already got Clockworkmode no need to use the Odin version of the Custom Kernels, just take the CWM version and put it on your SD card and falsh it from CWM recovery.
Thanks for replying zaheedahmed, what do you think of Keasby's Kernel is it worth flashing will I loose clockworkmode?

Sorry mate I have no personal expreance with any ICS kernels yet...
just read the threads....to find which is most popular and least problem giving....,.do you know the questian "Which is best" is baned in the XDA..
---------- Post added at 11:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:42 AM ----------
No you wont loose the CWM, all the custom kernels are attached with a CWM recovery...that is the main goody of SGS2 kernels...
One more question if I flash a new release ics rom and it doesn't have a csc with xeu do I flash a csc xeu file at the same time as flashing the ics rom, will this work?

Sorry experts can give comments about the compatibility of such mix flashing....
But why are you so concerned about CSC, what difference is giving you XEU than others just for my information.
CSC can only flashed from ODIN, you will loose your root and you have to Root it again by flashing a Root kernel again...
Sorry I thought I needed csc xeu as I live in the UK
CSC not required if you enter network settings manually .

Root worked?

Hi everybody,
I just foillowed this to root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
I can see superuser and CWM in the app list on my phone so i suppose it worked,
is there anything other that I need to do before i'm able to install custom roms?
I need to know this because I'm on the 4.0.4 original samsung sowtware, and i had read something about an ICS bug in the samsung kernel. So do I need to flash another kernel? (which?!)
(if i want this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846706 all i have to do is reboot in recovery and flash it?)
thx in avance

[Q] Reset rooted tab=?

Hi all.
Device: Galaxy Tab 7510 US, stock ICS, rooted with CWM 5.5.0.4 and SuperSU
If I do a factory reset via the settings menu, what will the result be?
Will I be back to like new, out of the box condition?
Thanks.

If I don't flash stock recovery, does that mean I'd be back to like new, but would still
be rooted with CWM and SuperSU intact?
Another question: Am I correct that if I flash the stock ICS update on my rooted tab, it would
no longer be rooted?
Thanks.

I think you are misunderstanding some things.. You must first root your phone with cf-root AND THEN, you must flash the Rom with the specified kernel. But you can take a shortcut by flashing siyah kernel. You don't need to rely on baseband version.

No. Did you read the first post on the CM10.1 Thread?
You have to be running an ics stock rom and then root it.
Afterwards you can then proceed to flash CM10.1.

Hey ma8 first use the siyah kernel v4.1.5 or v5.0.1(tar file for ODIN) form PC ODIN to root ur phone, to get a wrk'ng latest CWM recovery on ur phone
then follow the install instruction given in the CM10.1 thread to install the same, the CM10.1 rom comes with its own kernel that will replace siyah after install

so you mean to say that flashing the siyah kernal will directly give me root? Or will i have to use super one click app after flashing the kernel to gain root? One more thing have you tried the method you gave?
Yes it will, no need for any super one click. Once uve flashed siyah, reboot in recovery (which will now be cwm recovery), make a nandroid before you flash anything. Would be a good idea to back up your apps using titanium backup, your sms msgs with an app like sms backup and restore etc. Then proceed to flash the rom, gapps, make wipes etc.

Galaxy S2 (i9100) upgrade from stock 4.0.4 to CM11

Hi all, my second ish post on xda (yes im a moderate android noob), i am after some advice and help on flashing CM11 to my S2 (Intl), as it feels really outdated (because it is) and also quite slow (because it is). Ive read about the brickbug and i ran Chainfire's GotBrickbug tool and it said "unknown chip, not sure if dangerous, at least it isnt known to be bad. The chip is V3U00M and the revision is 0xE. I also ran another checker and it said sane chip. Im running the stock 4.0.4 (rooted with Framaroot and removed carrier rubbish) and apparently 4.0.4 is prone to bricking. Ive read about flashing new kernels (Siyah etc) and other methods. I know there is the 4.1.2 update, does that remove the chances of brickbug so i can then flash CM11 via CWM? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Official 4.1.2 firmware is safe, only 4.0.4 has brickbug.
So do i just upgrade to 4.1.2 then use odin to flash CWM 6.0.4.5 and then follow normal procedure? Thanks for replying btw

Download XWMS3 4.1.2 from sammobile site(you have to log in). Then use Odin to flash it. Download PhilZ xwms3 kernel and put kernel zip on sdcard. Reboot in stock Samsung recovery and flash that kernel zip file. Then reboot again in recovery and flash philz 6.0.5.0 touch recovery.
Or... You can root 4.1.2 with siyah kernel, but you need to flash kitkat compatible recovery

I just thought I'd say I've got the S2 on OmniRom 5.1 now after using a rather unstable and buggy CM11 nightly. Thanks for your help BTW
