Bloatware remover? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a flashable bloatware remover for Samsung-based ROMs anywhere? Or an application that can do it for me?
I really don't want to go through everything with Titanium because it takes ages, and also some things I don't know if they're safe to remove or not.
I do like the Samsung stuff, but since JB my battery life is **** no matter what ROM I try, so I think it's time to try getting rid of ALL the rubbish that Samsung has installed. And I have tried AOSP/AOKP ROMs but they ain't any better on battery life :-/

Getting rid of the bloat

Hey!
Love my SGS2, a massive improvement on my HTC Hero!
But, I don't like the masses of Bloatware Samsung include with the phone.
I'm rooted, and have Titanium Backup installed, but I'm unsure as to what I can safely delete/uninstall to get rid of some of the Bloatware.
If anyone has been through and cleaned there device up, can you let me know what you took off please!

I can probably take a decent stab at recommending some bloat to remove, but I don't have a device to test on So it's likely you can break some features when doing it, though you might not even use the features it breaks
So I won't post it for now, to stop the hundreds of people who break their phone and have to reflash, but if you want me to run through some stuff, and you use irc, or know how to, you can pop into #villainrom on freenode and I'll make a few suggestions...
Pulser_g2.
That rings a bell.
I'm sure I used to use your Custom ROMS on the GSM HTC Hero!
And I'll come find you on irc soon - cheers for the help mate!
I removed 65 of the installed apps, lost some useless features, running 100% stable.
I downloaded AntTek app manager which is free and lets you freeze, backup and remove any apps and I've frozen all the hubs and buddies now as have no idea what it is and then removed accuweather, APmobile and few I can't remember and have had no issues
Thanks for the tip; I've frozen a bunch of applications on mine and I'll see if it makes much of a difference.
I couldn't get this work with AntTek. Does your phone need to be rooted for it to work?
Yeah sorry you'llneed to root to get any of these programs that remove apps to work. Think there is a version that doesn't need root but not sure what its limitations are.

Just checked and it says in the description for root/non root customers but if the guy above has tried it then doesn't look like it does alot if you're not rooted. As far as not rooting, its about 5 or 6 clicks, honestly couldn't be easier if you follow the steps on the root thread. I was worried but there's nothing to worry about and can't honestly understand how anyone could get it wrong.

[Q] Battery mod and Camera working even under 15% battery?

Sorry for the rather ominious title. But its hard to actually picking a proper title for some subject :/
I have had a SGS2 for a couple months now and I have had a few issues with it that I hope some of you might be able to help with.
1:
I stood at an army training ground and was recording FullHD video with the phone but when it dropped to 15% battery it refused to record anymore or take pictures. Is there some way to "mess with" or hack it to simply keep recording till the battery is dead?
2:
I had a circular battery mod for my phone which worked fine of the original rom which was KE7 for a Nordic phone. But now trying to flash the same battery mod with CWM bootloops my phone . I have tried to see if I can find any battery mods like it, but the only ones I have been able to find so far has been the kind that uses the regular battery icon and just adds the percentage.
I would actually like the circular one as I prefer that one, but is there even one that would work on the KH3 Rom?
3:
I see people mentioned Deodexed and odexed as terms, but what does that mean and what is the actual difference between the 2 of them?
I hope someone might be able and willing to help with either all of the 3 questions or just some of them. And thanks in advance for your time.

I see you use CMW recovery so you must be rooted
this rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198334
Along with the Villain tweak app provides everything your after easily.
There are also lots of themes in the thme section for your tweeking needs
This is a KG6 rom but there isnt much difference imho.
Deodexing basically means files/things are easier to mess around with.
Problem is I like the stock feel of the Rom, hence why I have never really bothered flashing something like MRC, Cynoagen, Villian etc.
I prefer to just keep things normally and then "tweak" the few things I am not entirely happy with. So I was primarily looking for fixes/hacks that could be applied on an existing rom rather then a full new rom entirely.
But thanks for the suggestion regardless

A man after my own heart! thats good because Villain is completely stock Samsung just pretty much Deodexed, no themes no bulls**t.
The only tweaks/themes that are applied will be by you
Also If you like Cyanogen you could always check the version for the sgs2 its pretty complete now only a few things left to sort out (bluetooth being the major one).
Well I just flashed the KH3 rom just the other day and I would like to actually give that one a tryout before deciding to try another rom .
But the only thing that really bugs me is why the phone so stubbornly decides to stop wanting to use the camera at 15%. I mean there must be a hacked camera.apk out there that works for me ratehr then having to flash a completely different rom to get what I "want".

[Q] Elegancia vs. Viper ROMs

Reading through the ROM descriptions as well as through the forums it seems to me that Elegancia is generally concerned with optimal performance and battery life and Viper is mostly about customization and tweaks. Would experienced users say this is somewhat accurate? I'm asking because I just completed my first root and custom ROM install for my One X+ the other day and I chose elegancia because one of the main reasons I took the plunge into this daunting noob territory was that i wanted to improve what seemed the only real drawback to a great phone, namely the battery life, and this was highlighted in the elegancia description. And improve the battery life it did-- I now can get a FULL DAY (~13-14 hours) out of a charge, not having to resort to powersaver or be judicious with what I do with my phone. It's amazing how liberating this feels.
Anyway, I've been reading up on the Viper ROM and am loving all the personalization options it describes, namely the keyboard and theme options...but it doesn't say anything about the battery life in the description. What are people's experiences with battery life with this ROM? I am not prepared to give up the battery life I'm attaining with elegancia, but if if Viper could give me a couple extra hours than I had on the stock ROM, while perhaps not attaining elegancia levels, I still might be attempted to cross over.
When I get settled into a setup I will be making some donations.
Also, what's the best method for backing up apps and then reinstalling them after you flash a new ROM?
Take a backup in recovery and for Apps I use Titanium Backup.
I just moved from ARHD to Viper to test it, so that's what I did... If I don't feel comfortable with Viper I can put recovery and boot.img back and then restore my nandroid backup to have my phone back to where I left
Or install ARHD again and restore apps and data with Titanium. Never restore system apps and setting when moving between ROMs!

What do you mean? Like HTC Sense apps? Can I back my apps up in elegancia and get at them in Viper? Or do I have to redownload everything once I've installed a new ROM? I'm in the process of backing up all my apps and data with titanium...gonna heed your suggestion and try and save my setup in elegancia and try out Viper for a bit.
Where does titanium store the backup file(s)?
Do a backup and flash viper you can just use the same stock kernel I beleive as long as they havnt changed anything and try it out and if you font like it just restore your backup and your right where you left off

You should not restore the things under systems apps, but you can easily restore user apps (and data). Maybe they have changed something in system so it's better not to restore this... What do you mean with "HTC Sense apps"? In Viper they are included as well, so no need to restore them.
You don't have to redownload anything.
Titanium gives you the option to "Restore missing apps and data", you should not overwrite existing apps with your backup. If needed you can choose to restore only the app data so you can get back settings you did in apps (like bluetooth devices and stuff like that).
Titanium stores its backup in sdcard/titanium
Good luck!

I can understand the questions, it always takes me hours and hours (if not days!) to get a phone where I want it to be... all the apps, widgets, settings and other personal things, it's not done with "just flash the ROM"...

Yes I discovered that...great app!
I mucked around a little bit and decided on DeSensed Elegancia with the Apex Launcher. I like the smoothness and some of the widgets in Sense but I know it's a big memory/battery drain and I love the customizability of the other launchers (themes/icons, number of apps per page etc.). Loving it so far and am thinking of trying the adw launcher on top of Apex for a bit.
Am pretty comfortable with backing things up and restoring now so it feels like I have a lot more freedom to explore and try things out.

True, but I would also like to ask a few questions to make my flashing as efficient as possible. It can often take a couple days to really figure out if something is for you or not..the more info I can collect from other sources makes it easier for me to know where to start.
Anyway, thanks for all the suggestions/info everyone.

I really love Sense things, especially the weather stuff! :good: I use ADW, and combined with Viper you can have endless tweaks and customizations!
With my use of phone the battery lasts for at least 2 or 3 days, sometimes up to 5 days with original ROM. So I don't bother about getting one or two hours more or less with De-Sensed ROMs... If you really want to have pure Android ROM try AOSP or Cyanogen...

[Q] i9305 4.3 to 4.4? Is it possible?

Is it possible to update to CM11 nightly (or any other 4.4 roms... I'm not familiar with the scene) from 4.3 stock?
I did install KNOX, and then removed it. And then the Samsung service reflashed the rom again. So I don't know about it anymore. Didn't install it since then.
My story:
As many of you already did, I also installed the new update. Read below if you are interested (but you probably know all this anyway.)
So. A few days ago Google+ started to eat up my battery. I disabled it in the Application Manager and did not have the updates installed either. But it just started. My usual battery life dropped to only a couple of hours at max.
So I fired up Google and it said I have to install the updates. So I did.
Nothing changed. Then I went into Google+, signed in, and then signed out.
Nothing changed.
So all in all, I have a piece of crappy brick that I can't use anymore.
Bit of a rant: You gotta love this. You buy an overpriced product and they f... you over a thousand times. App makers, Samsung (4.3 crapdate), and EVEN Google. Then why the hell would I even want Android ever again? Seriously. If I would have to buy a phone now, I would pick an iPhone, no matter how much it costs more. This is just unjustifiable. "Hey customer, thanks for buying our product. Now let us make it all crap." ... WHY?
So yeah. Now I have no choice but to lose warranty (which I already used a few times because this is REALLY a crap quality phone). Not that HTC One X was any better, it had a faulty GPU/motherboard like 4 times. (Thanks Nvidia!) ... Sorry guys, I'm just infuriated.
Wish I could just change the phone down. I was thinking about Sony, but if Google can buttrape you anytime, why bother? No guarantee I can just fix it on Sony either.
CM10 is also fine
As I read the nightly can disable all GSM related operations (call/sms), so CM10 is also fine.
I just want to fix my battery life and have a stable phone again.

you should download your firmware from here
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-I9305&pcode=0#firmware
wipe everything then go into download mode
Use Odin http://www.android.gs/download-odin-3-07/
and after you flash this, do a factory reset within the phone or through its recovery

Thanks for the quick reply.
As I said my phone runs the 4.3 firmware now without any issue.
Except the 4.3 slow encryption and the huge battery drain. The phone got reset like 3-5 times in the past few weeks too.
So now I wonder if I can just install CM10 from 4.3.
But I need some confirmation as I know you cannot downgrade 4.3 for example. (Due to KNOX or whatever.)
Yeah should be no problem. My wife's battery drain happened too. I found the problem was with the SD card. I formatted it with the phone and it seems to be as good as it was on 4.12

Look you can go from any version of cm back to stock. CM doesn't change your boot loader or your modem. The only time your stuck on a version of android is when it comes to stock. Like as a note 3 users we are stuck on KitKat because they updated our bootlaoder. Cm based Roms it doesn't matter.
And you should get an SD card to hold your back ups just in case.
Also if someone helps you on xda it's kind of nice to hit the thanks button. It allow others to see that their comment was useful.
Good luck.
BTW if your new to rooted and ROM installing I suggest reading through the Dev section for the i9305.
Also google your issue word for word and there are tons of android forums out there which may help you.
A lot of times if you open a thread that has been answered a lot they will ignore it or throw words you won't like your way.
So good luck

Yeah if I'm not going to get an answer in a few hours I'll give it a go. It's a brick anyway, heh.
Just did my wife's i9305 today. Moving to cm/omni shouldn't be an issue, however be warned you lose a lot of features like HDMI out and the camera doesn't work as well. I just put the galaxy project ROM on there as the i9305 has the extra GB of ram which keeps stock nice and smooth, also you can debloat if the need be. And if you run into camera issues like I did simply flash stock kernel then reflash rom. Honestly unless you prefer KitKat its a waste of the extra ram your device has as most of it simply will never get used.
Also with wanam xposed you can customize everything! Can't do that with an iPhone. Sorry to hear you have had a bad run but while Samsung's software isn't exactly great the hardware is beast and once you learn how to configure it and unlock its full potential you will see you made the right choice.
i9300 | temasek 4.4.2 | boeffla kernel
Thanks for your reply!
- How worse will the camera get?
- What other important features you know? (HDMI does not really matter to me.)
I do use it a lot, so I don't want to lose everything. (Only use simple picture/HDR modes tho.)
Tried again every kind of combination with Google+ and it's still eating my battery like crazy.
I mean... what the hell is the "Disable" for then? It "almost disables" the app or what? lol.

Topic solved!
Installed CM without any problem. Everything worked flawless.
Now I have a fast (MUCH faster) phone. And all those god-tier features. Holy sh*t I love my phone now.
(I hate you Samsung.)

Ok so what now?

Ok so I'm fairly new to the whole rooting thing but I have been studying up quite abit. Lots of really good videos on youtube!! So I'm just looking for some direction on what kind of things I can/should do now that I have rooted my phone. Here is the break down so far:
Rooted - Towelroot
Root Browser Installed
BusyBox Installed
Safestrap Installed and backup saved
Titanium Back Up Installed. Most Bloatware has been safely removed with no issues thus far
SuperSu Installed
Terminal Emulator Installed
CPU Tuner installed but have absolutely no clue what I am doing - still researching this
I think that is about it. So any tipps on next direction would greatly be appreciated!!
Thanks in advance

O yes my S4 is NC5 and stock rom
Make phone calls... or browse the internet.
Mine does facebook good.
All the root, customization , ect. is just to make it do what YOU want it to do. If there isn't something your trying to get it to do that it doesn't... There isn't really a what next, be happy.
If there IS something your trying to get it to do that it doesn't... that next.
edit: though if your not using a custom rom you should probably freeze the program that controls OTA updates. Hopefully someone can chime in with what its called... Been awhile and I forget, and just flashed a rom instead of worrying about it last time I updated my phone.
Like you, I've frozen/killed/uninstalled all the crapware I could. Beyond that, all I've done is installed the Google Launcher. My phone is well behaved and pretty responsive, with minimal lag.
All I would really want at this point is an unlocked bootloader so I could install a straight Google ROM.

I'm on NC5 and have been happily running GPE ROM for quite awhile now. Only problem is the Kernel difference so there's no USB transfer.
Thanks for the reply's. Yeah I don't really game or anything. Heck I don't even Facebook lol but I would like to Play around with getting better battery life and maybe a little speed. I want to play around with the CPU tuner but I'm nervous about messing something up and I have not installed a new Kernel yet and from what I have read that is a must.

NO! Installing a new kernel on SafeStrap NC5 is not a must! It will brick your phone! You can use TW based ROMS and one or two very special AOSP Roms, no new kernels though!

I use android tuner for my tuning needs. Really expansive options and a really great app. If you want a really light ROM fort SS GPE ROMs are about 400-500MB. Gets rid of clunky touchwiz and solely runs on Google Now Launcher. Only bummer is the loss of the Touchwiz camera app.

Mine does facebook good.
All the root, customization , ect. is just to make it do what YOU want it to do. If there isn't something your trying to get it to do that it doesn't... There isn't really a what next, be happy.

edit: though if your not using a custom rom you should probably freeze the program that controls OTA updates. Hopefully someone can chime in with what its called... Been awhile and I forget, and just flashed a rom instead of worrying about it last time I updated my phone.

NO! Installing a new kernel on SafeStrap NC5 is not a must! It will brick your phone! You can use TW based ROMS and one or two very special AOSP Roms, no new kernels though!

HyperDrive is solid and a good ROM for those newer to 'all this' IMO. I am on BlackBox which is stupid fast and has great battery life but is a little buggy. I've had it on my phone for over a week now and have no plans of taking it off anytime soon. But it's up to you now. Just make sure you wipe everything before you flash, always make a backup beforehand and only flash ROM's that are proven on your device and your bootloader and you will be money. Also, read read read the threads before flashing.

it's called SDM in the system portion... and I would get lucky patcher and black mart alpha installed to. these give you access to everything and all the paid apps too.
Add a tethering/hotspot app.
