Rezound bootloader unlocked, now what? - HTC Rezound

I was using the all-in-one tool, successfully unlocked the bootloader, but stuck on the flash recovery part. Does flashing a recovery give root access? And if so, how do I do it? I started up fastboot in the bootloader, then hit the flash recovery option in the all-in-one root program. Command prompt comes up , phone reboots, and I still don't have root access. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Recovery is just a part of the phone that is separate from the OS that you use to manage your system. You can install new ROMs, wipe old ones, make backups, and more.
Flashing recovery does not give you root. You can get root in recovery.

Okay, how can I tell if the recovery is installed, and how do I use it to gain root access? Thanks

Shut down your phone. Take out the battery, and put it back in. Press power and volume down simultaneously until you see the white hboot screen. After the green lines disappear, use the volume buttons to highlight and press power to select "recovery".
Once there, in "other" you can install superuser. If that doesn't work you can flash a zip that is laying somewhere around the forums but I don't have it.

Okay! Now we are in business. Installed super user. Phone boots up fine, going to attempt some tethering. Thanks!

Superuser is installed and updated, but I don't seen to have root access. Any thoughts?

Reboot?

No dice. Should I flash a different recovery? Try and install superuser again?

The only other recovery is TWRP, and it doesn't have a rooting option.

Installed clockwork but you're right I can't find an Su option. Damn. I'm so close!

Put this on your sd and flash in amonRa (amonRa recovery)

Don't use CWM, get rid of that as soon as you can.

Flashed back to amonra 3.15. Still no root access. Frusturating. >_<

You flashed that zip while on amon ra?

Haven't flashed any zip. Put the recovery on, install Su and superuser in the recovery , reboot the phone. Am I missing a step?

Doesn't seem to be any way to download that zip file directly on the rezound, and my computer is lacking internet access.

CWM help

I am coming from a Droid and to boot into recovery if it boot looped or anything it was power + x then it was in CWM. But I am unsure how to get into recovery if it boot loops on my tbolt. Sorry for the noob question!

To get into cwm you hold volume down as the phone boots up, then select recovery. Make sure you don't have a pg05img on the root of your sd card tho because it will automatically try and install it, resulting in your inability to select recovery.

Thank you for the help. Last dumb question. What's a pgn05img? So many new things to learn on this.

Not dumb, but it shows you've not rooted...
It's basically a stock rom/rom-update image file. If the phone sees one on hboot, it will overwrite your current system with it.
If you've rooted your phone, you put two different versions of it on the sdcard at some point in the process. If you forget to remove it or rename it after finished rooting it could be problematic.

Ok so when I had stock 1.83 I used the native recovery app to flash the leaked ota of gingerbread. And ever since when I try to go back to it, it'll just sit with the ! And little android dude. You should flash Tenfar's new CWM as the old one isn't compatible with 2.3.4. The one in the Rom Manager is incomplete and not recommended for us yet.
You have the link or version number?

(Q) Help! How do I unroot my device?

Good day everyone. So apparently I had the courage to root my device using clockwork mod using the i717 method. It was successful and I had superuser installed.
It couldn't get anymore worse. I attempted to install cyanogenmod and it failed. At the restore center (you hold down both volume rockers and the power button), it shows the android robot dead with a red exclamation mark when I attempted to install from a zip file. Fortunately, my phone was able to boot up without issues.
Just now, I installed a root checker app and it says that my phone is not properly rooted. Please, can anyone teach me how to unroot? I can jailbreak my itouch with no issues but this is very complex for me.
Sent from my GT-N7005 using xda premium
Just to clarify, when I open up the zip file of the rom I transferred to my device, it suddenly starts copying to an unknown place of my computer. After that, it would open up the zip file.

flash stock rom via odin
Sent from my GT-S6500D using xda premium
Probably used wrong method. To unroot u just remove su if you want also rm superuser app. But the rest is not because of the root. Can you flash with odin?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Yes, I can flash using odin and I had just re-root my phone. The root checker now says that the phone is rooted.
Now the problems lie with the copying of rom zip files to my device. Whenever I tried to copy, it would stop around 3 quarter. When I try to open it up, it would start copying to a weird folder inside 'temp'.

The rom is cyanogenmod. But this problem is not about the rom. Instead, it relates more to the transferring of the zip file from the computer to my device.

It's okay. I had installed cyanogenmod through ROM manager and it's really cool!

if your s-on you forgot to take the boot.img from the rom and flash it via fastboot
Edit: Only use boot.img from the rom your gonna install....make sure you read proper method in first few posts from developer as there is instructions to make your phone work properly
Yes, you need to flash the boot image if you are S-ON...
But save the headaches and don't even bother flashing a ROM from your installed recovery (you really don't even need to install a custom recovery at all), all you need is the "recovery.img" from the recovery ZIP file of choice, although I currently recommend TWRP, in your adb directory and the ROM on your SD card then...
1) Reboot into Hboot and start Fastboot, connect PC
2) Type "fastboot boot recovery.img" and wait a minute for the Recovery to start on the phone
3) Wipe as per normal for installing a ROM
4) Install/Flash ROM zip as per normal
5) Reboot and enjoy!

It's worth going S-Off if you are going to flash very often at all... makes it so much easier to just flash one file and done.
It seems scary, but if you follow the instructions, it's not bad at all. I've done it twice now.
Also, you will have to flash a stock rom first (it's been done on other rom's, but ymmv... its safest to go stock before s-off).

You can do it from custom roms too, from what I've seen, but since you are stock, that is perfect

Hmm, lost root? - How is everyone updating SU binaries?

So I was having Wi-Fi tether issues the GPE ROM and tried a different super user app to update binaries. Kept getting prompted to do it via recovery. Boot into recovery yet when I reboot I'm getting no prompt install binaries. Can't edit /system as root explorer won't work. Any ideas? I've tried both recoveries. I see the su file in /system/xbin
edit: reflashed, got SU back. Binaries still out of date... still getting prompts to boot into recovery to install latest binaries. doing so results in nothing, no prompt, no install. how are people updating theirs??

Got Rom booted back... But seriously, supersu is prompting me to update binaries through recovery, but it isn't doing anything at all. Root checker says I have no root access. Any ideas?
