[Q] USB device not recognized - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I plug in my s3 to my computer (windows 7 ultimate) it just says USB device not recognized.
I've tried to uninstall all samsung usb mobile drivers and reinstalled them again.
Any advice?

Try another USB cable? The Samsung one I got with the GS3 does this to me a lot now (so I just keep it in the charger since it works for that) but my Sony Ericsson one works fine

PC Won't Recognize X10 Mini Pro (not mine,my mums :D)

So,one day I thought it would be a great idea to root, unlock the bootloader, and install MiniCM7 on my mother's phone.I tried to connect her phone via usb to my PC.Nothin'.I tried to connect it to her laptop.Nothin' again.Tried tricks that I found on the net such as putting it in silent mode or using one of the Sony Ericsson ringtones.NOT CONNECTED AGAIN!Tried to even put out the sim card and then in again.I have tried connecting the phone with 3 PCs in which MY white X10 Mini Pro has been connected and working like a charm thousands of times...Please,I really need to find a solution.Hopefully, the usb didn't stop working while I was on any of these steps,it stopped before I could do anything.
As mentioned before,my U20 works with any of these 3 PCs while hers doesn't work with none!
HELP!
Hey man, does it charge? If not then try the USB cable from your MP and see if it works (my entire phone problem was a dead cable) otherwise it could be the USB port D:

Hi,sorry for the late response but I already have tried it and it only charges 5 seconds after I plug it to the PC.Tried with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit,Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit,Windows XP Professional 32-bit.
I think it's a software's (but unfixable) problem. If it's turned on,it sometimes may not charge.Turn it off and plug the cable in and suddenly it will start charging.Leave it for a night and the battery will be really hot and completely empty.I don't know... btw thx for the reply
Hmm weird. Either the USB or the cable. All my friends with the MP have stock and I've got ICS I reckon your mum can survive haha

Hey, i have a similar problem... I can connect my x10 mp, on office pc fine, but with same cable and no setting changed, my laptop won't recognize the phone (USB port is fine).
Though its not really a hassle, I use Airdroid at home now, so really no reason to connect with cable. But it was connecting fine on stock, only started happening after i flashed MiniCM7. Oh yes, if it matters, i did the flashing process on office PC :S

Well....I can't root it because z4root doesn't work for 2.1.1.A.0.6 and USB won't be connected anyways, thanks for the reply
Try to root with superoneclick... Mine is the same baseband as your moms, and I'm rooted right now
I remember someone poost the superoneclick link somewhere... Maybe you could search it...
And, again, are you sure its not your usb cable / usb phone port that doesn't work well ?
Last question, does this problem comes after you installing CM7, or does this problem come from the beginning (and you're unable to bootloader unlock it as the result) ?

It can only charge using USB!It can't connect to ADB mode (debugging) or USB transfer mode. This problem comes from the beginning.I dunno if it's a usb port (phone) problem.Mine charges + usb but hers only charges.same usb cable, same usb ports.Hers has Android 1.6 and I updated it to 2.1.1.A.0.6 and my phone came with the 2.1.1.A.0.6 already
If you updated it to 2.1 surely it worked at some point though?

[Q] USB connection to Macbook not working

Hi All,
So i bought a brand new galaxy s3 and have downloaded Android File Transfer and was able to copy/paste some of my music files from my Macbook to my GS3. Everytime i connected the usb cable to my laptop, id see the USB logo on the top left corner of my phone.
Today i tried to transfer some stuff, plugged in my phone to my laptop using the same USB cable that came with the phone. My phone starts charging up fine, but no USB logo on top left on my device and Android File Transfer wont recognize my device.
Any advice??
thanks in advance!

I hate when i spend hours trying to fix something then i find out its something simple like the cable. so always check the simple stuff first. I have found good cables at cableforge.com with lifetime warranty. so if i ever have one go bad they ship me another. plus use this coupon code for 80% off. G5WJXH4F22MN
I had a mate with this problem with his S2.He tried everything from reinstalling keis to full wipe installing the rom to stock rom and nothing. In the end he solved it by plugging his old i9000 into his PC and when it said it was recognized he unplugged it and plugged in his S2 and it recognized his S2....simple but true.
Try plugging in another S3 or better still an S2 or S1 so the PC recognizes the drivers and then plug in your S3.It may work like it did for my mate.
Use stock ⣔ cable came with your phone
shouldn't need kies. Obviously if nothing else is working give it a shot but I've never had to use kies for anything.

Have you installed the device drivers for your phone? If you haven't I would recommend downloading the device drivers for your phone from here. If you have already installed the device drivers for your phone I would recommend uninstalling then reinstalling the device drivers for your phone. Also, is the usb cable a decent quality cable and are you able to connect other devices to your computer (And Windows recognizes them) using this cable?
Thank you for your feedback and yes ive been through the motions of uninstalling amd reinstalling the drivers multiple times. The cable im using is for an LG smartphone and its in mint condition . It alsocworks with other devices except mine. My samsung would have a usb icon pop up on the phone whenever a connection is made but now it just charges.

You could also try using a different usb cable and also make sure your plugging your phone into a USB 2.0 port as sometimes USB 3.0 ports can be problematic. Another thing you could try that very likely won't make a difference but you could try is going into developer settings and making sure USB debugging is enabled.
Ive tried every usb port on my laptop and i tried the usb debugging feature but nothing seems to be working. I will get a new usb cable specifically for my phone to see if it makes a difference because im running out of options.

Faulty usb connection? HELP!

Hey, sorry if this is too much. I just posted a first impressions thread but this is really urgent.
I can't charge the phone over USB. It has to be connected to the wall socket. I can't even transfer data with the USB cable. What to do? Is this a faulty unit or is the voltage on the usb not enough? The latter would be totally unacceptable. My SGS3 charges etc. just fine with the same port and cable.
It did work on my other (Sony Vaio Pro) laptop. Just not on my Asus. What can be wrong here? I tried it in every port and nothing happens. SGS3 works perfectly.
Are you using original cable? If not try with it.
Try other ports and if possible, try other computers. If it still won't charge/transfer data then you can rule out the computer and pin the problem to the phone.

Most likely don't have the drivers installed on the Asus.

I tried every port and two different cables. The problem is that nothing happens. Usually it even starts to download drivers or something.

It works just fine on my other laptop. I think the issue really is the lack of drivers. I can find the device in device manager but no driver.
Anyone know how to get drivers?
Download Sony PC Companion. It should have the necessary drivers I suppose

That didn't work either.
Fixed! Contacted Sony support, uninstalled the device and plugged into another USB port and now it works. Props to Sony support. Silloin no docking through USB though but he said it isn't supported.
Yup the dock is only for charging. No data transfer possible

Yeah of course I knew that. But you can't charge in the dock over USB. Is that supposed to be?
Didn't try it myself yet but I've read that it's like that somewhere

It mentions in the manual that comes with the charging dock that it has to be mains powered & no charging with dock through PC connection.
