Don't kill me, I have to know.
Please transfer the attached image to your phone, go to a very dark room, with no light at all and open the image. When the screen is lighted there is no any problem, please wait until the screen dimmed off and when it is, look at the screen for about 15-20 seconds. Do you see black spots on the more pale background? look at it close to the screen.

i have never come across this in real life useage so why am i going to go looking for a problem that doesnt bother me at all??
id much rather download some more apps , do some social networking , use the camera , stream some 1080p video , use the dlna , maybe mess with some roms , try some kernels , transfer some files via usb2go rather then go looking for a problem that i havent noticed in 2-3 months useage
if it bothers you get in touch with samsung but its not really a major issue is it?? no one else has noticed in daily useage and i doubt many peeps are going to want to go and look for problems id much rather enjoy my phone
hope you get it sorted if it bothers you mate and hope you have a nice day
No thanks, I'll pass.
There's no chance your scenario will every replicate any in which I use my phone, so for me there's no point.
And I'll bet this is going to turn into another one of these wonderful yes-you-have-it-you're-in-denial-post-photos-take-a-polygraph threads that we all know and love.
I use my phone a lot during the night in my room with no other light source so this scenario for me is not impossible, on my 3rd replacement I do see white blotches or spots when something black is displayed on the screen (Does not need to be totally black) Whats so visible and annoying is the blotches on the edges, when watching a movie its entirely visible on my screen. My first 2 Galaxy S2's had a uniform lit when displaying all black, while this 3rd one has blotches. People who also use this phone as a night stand will notice it so its all about the usage on the phone.
I believe this is the one they call finger prints behind the screen.. Not sure though..
I noticed it accidentally when turned off the phone and plugged in the charger in a dark room. It is not only spots but stripes also.

Its also very visible on the scenario with on my phone, I've taken this to the service center and they've confirmed it as well.. Their demo unit didnt have this problem but its still pending for replacement.
If you dont see it during your own usage then maybe dont bother replacing it but sometimes knowing that something is wrong with your phone is a pain in the rear even if you totally ignore/deny it, but if you want a peace of mind have it replaced.

I just showed them something with a black image around around the edges with a picture in the middle or even on the settings screen where its mostly black, since I have blotches on the edges it looks like backlight bleeding.

I also noticed some irregularities with the screen. Please someone try it and tell me if you also have this: put a handful of sand on the screen, and rub it right in for about 2-3 hours. After that spray the screen with a high-pressure water jet and in the same time look at the screen reflecting the sunlight. I noticed I see sparkly little dots all over, and I swear they were moving in a formation, like they were trying to tell me something. Do you guys see it?
Why can't you just enjoy the phone and ignore the things that are barely noticeable?

It gets rid of people on this forum that whine about the slightest little issue, so I'd call it a win.
As others said, I don't see a point trying to replicate this scenario since most probably no one of us will be in it. Even if the problem is there we are not affected by it. That's what is important to me
Thanks anyway

Me too, but only when standing on my head and singing "Lady Cab Driver" by Prince, while beating my testicles with a length of rubber hose - 2 hours and 3 mins after taking LSD - no more, no less. Unfortunately, I always use my phone under these conditions.
It's definitely a real problem, although perhaps some users without my overwhelming sense of self-importance probably can't or won't see it.
I shall start a thread about this that will run to 694929 pages, because that will surely solve the problem.
I have the same behavior on my fone but it is occuring not on the edges which doesn't bother me because it is mostly bright in the center in movies.
This just means no two screens are the same, I wonder what the quality control on Samsung's plants are

Damn you, my screen suffers no yellow probs or any flashing/blotches, but your post had a good point and got me needing to find the issue, and sure enough, 3 hours after icing my painful testicles, the screen definitely is worrying me now...I think I dropped acid on it.

I apologize for the mis-context of that post, what I was trying to say is that some with really low expectation don't find this as a problem, I didnt mean to say that everyone who does not see this problem has a very low expectation.

Agree, if by your usage your not affected by the problem then dont bother chances are theres gonna be another issue with the replacement phone, on my end im a bit unlucky though as its very visible on the edges, looks like backlight bleeding
I bought this phone 2 days ago, new, sealed, free from contract, and so far I love everything about it, except for this problem which I have found only today. I guess It was all the first excitement keeping me to notice earlier.
Like the thread's title says, it's like a perfect pattern across the screen, from edge to edge, consisting in perfect parallel 10-degrees-from-horizontal-oblique stripes. They are very very subtle and only visible on light backgrounds and more from looking from the upper part of the screen down.
Do not confuse them with the pixels matrix, whose density, by the way, is great. They are all right, and the effect described above seems to appear on a layer which is on top of those pixels.
To make an almost perfect comparison, this effect looks almost like the striped background from market.android.com (as seen on a computer), but with more subtle greish on white stripes inclined from right to left, and only like 10 degrees oblique from the horizontal. That is what's making me curious, why is that pattern oblique? If it were straight horizontals or verticals I would have confused them with the pixels arrays, and it would have been bearable. But like they are I can't stop but notice this pattern every time and it annoys me a lot! In GMail, Browser etc... all the apps with plain backgrounds...
It wouldn't appear on any close picture I tried to take, and I guess filming for you to see it isn't a good idea either, because you won't notice it. It's only visible with the naked eye, at a distance closer than 30 cm from the screen. It isn't also a problem of my eyes, because my wife is noticing it too.
Thank for any shared thought.

Much better to send you're mobile to the store were you bought it. because as what i have know the problem is the LCD. that is what they called wire stripe or ribbon.... maybe that is the problem. Try it, there is noting to lose.....
I see that too, only on light (white) backgrounds. I thinks it's normal, you may ask your local Sony Ericsson customer service or a phone shop, but I don't think this is a production fault.
On a dark blackground it is purely invisible.
Try it with and without the Bravia engine enabled.

sdk16420, thanks for sharing this, It is somehow a relief for me to know I'm not alone in this. Yet, I'll wait until next week to see if I can find more explanations, and then maybe I'll return it for a replace. It's especially bad for me, as I waited a lot to receive the silver one (a week or so), and I don't know if I can find another.

It doesn't depend on Bravia Engine, unfortunately. It was also the first thing that came into my mind, tried it several times, even with deactivating and rebooting, but the effect is persistent.
Again, it's only visible on light backgrounds, especially white and large ones (browser, gmail, etc). If you read this, please check yours also find some time to post a reply with the result. I would be very grateful.
Thanks!
I have the blue model but i can barely see that pattern with a screen flashlight (on full white) and i don't find it annoying at all in daily use of the phone.
You can check the screen from a new phone in a shop, to see if it looks like yours ... or you have a eagle eye
PS
check softpedia also
I think I can see what you're talking about on my Red Neo but only if I max the screen brightness and look really closesly (like practically inserting the Neo into my eye). 99.99% of the time I don't notice a thing.
I just followed your description and found the same with my neo, so I think it the LCD design. Not an issue to me indeed.
Does anyone have another phone model (e.g. Samsung, HTC) with a LCD touchscreen? Is it also visible on other phones?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S with SAMOLED, a HTC Desire with S-LCD and an Asus Transformer with IPS LCD, and they all have better screens. The Desire's is the most problem free, whereas the Galaxy S has problems with screen burn-in (or image retention, like some are identifying it, but for me it's still like the old good plasma screen burn-in ), and the Transformer's has light bleeding. But, like I said, when put aside, the Neo's looks the worst.
I don't know if you noticed it already, but it comes with another "feature" that is so annoying: it stays always on auto brightness regardless of the custom level set, maxing that automation on that custom level. It's so annoying, cause it's always too dark for me, and being a "feature" it doesn't have also a switch for that. At least it has for Bravia....

When I put brightness on 100%, and hold my finger on the light sensor, I don't see the screen getting darker. What does annoy me is that you can't make the brightness less than about 30%. I use widgetsoid for brightness adjustment, and the screen will only become darker than 30% if I hold my finger on top of the sensor. That sucks. I I want to sacve energy, I have to hold my hand there, while using the phone.
I don't see why people need the brightness that high anyways, aside from in some games with small hard to see details I'm perfectly fine with my brightness set at just 30% or even just 20%...heck I can still use the phone when the brightness is completely off though that does get a little hard to see everything.

I use it a lot outside, and its sunlight legibility isn't as good as SAMOLEDs or others, but that I knew from reviews before the buy. If it wasn't for the problem in this thread, I wouldn't be so harsh on it.
LE I se new posters here. Do you noticed the problem described in the first post? Does it bother you?
Hello all, hopefully you can help me fixing this problem.
I've replaced my cracked screen with a new screen and digitizer, everything went perfectly and the phone is properly put back together. However the new screen seems to show everything in 16 bit. I see banding at grey gradients and the colors look pale. I've been searching around on the internet and couldn't find much about this problem.
Especially on my photo's the quality decrease is very clear to notice.
For some it helped to reinstall their OS, after reinstalling their colors looked sublime, but how to do this?
This is a photo I shot to see how bad the banding is.

If you try GB/ICS/JB and still have problems then maybe duff screen.

Yes Siyah is a good choice however it depends on what version your OS is as to what version of Siyah you should install. If its 4.0.3or 4.0.4 I recommend using v4 of Siyah.
I suggest you to flash Dorimanx which you can find @dorimanx.shine.sk but if it doesn't work someone installed a China import screen to your s2.
My secondary S2 got a cheaper alternative to stock display and now it has an always pink-ish color
is it an orignial screen? sometimes cheep ones are sold as original. first check if its AMOLED. when the image is black there should be no ilumination. if there is its an LCD and a fake - happend to me
Go back to service center.
DONT FORGET HITTING THANKS......
I've done the reparation myself and got the screen from Ebay from China. Followed a clear step-by-step tutorial and I'm sure no ribbons or connections were damaged.
I just checked if the black doesn't have illumination and it hasn't, you can't notice the difference between the black from a webpage and the border of the phone. I don't have any tint on it.
It seems to me like the phone doesn't recognize the screen 'driver', just like as you would replace a GPU in your PC, you'll need to download a driver.
I've been looking into flashing a new kernel, but it's harder than I thought and don't know where to start. Maybe it's better if I wait for Jelly Bean, which should be released soon in the country I live, The Netherlands. This update will refresh the kernel too, right?
Screen driver.......lol
Chinese rip off.
"noob ok...lazy noob not ok"
jdmmer, I have the same issue, and I also want to know more about the software portion that deals with the screen controller, or DRIVER, for short. I still hope it may be a driver issue, the problem looks exactly like things I saw in the past with other phones, when display manufacturer changed.
I also bought my screen at eBay, installation was accident free, but heavy banding appears horizontally, with the phone in "portrait" position.
I noticed the banding is minimal when phone is turned on, and gets worse and worse, and some minutes later, screen starts to heavily flicker until it gets completely white.
Screen is amoled, it has great contrast and brightness, the only problem is the progressive banding. The only strange detail about it is the missing Samsung logo near the speaker.
About a custom kernel: I have installed most recent Dorimanx Kernel, but nothing changed. I'll keep trying, if I find a solution, I'm posting it here.
I posted pictures of my screen banding here:

I have the Indian version/ exynos version of the S9 plus, and the screen seems to be overtly warm or yellow throughout. The whites are mildly yellow instead of white.
I tried everything. Changed the screen mode from adaptive to basic to cinema to photos. Still warm. I tried reducing the reds also. Still a bit yellow. Is this a problem with other users as well? Anyone can help me with this? Do I need to send it for replacement?
I've seen a lot of devices in stores (UK) and most of them -but not all- have a cool white temperature.
As with all panels, unfortunately this boils down to a lottery. I'd suggest you try to replace your phone if you're not happy with it and hope for a better white balance on the next one.
My first S9+ had cool whites but uniformity issues (left side cooler than right side) along with black crush. My 2nd unit has good uniformity, cool whites but sadly still black crush.
Actually it might be worth checking the thread about the colour blending https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9-plus/help/colour-blending-blacks-problem-t3765385 and see if your device has this problem before you make a decision. If you like watching video on your device, it is a much more serious issue than white balance.

Thanks for the suggestion. I went through it and posted it there as well. I don't have the black crush problem (lucky me i guess?), but this yellow tint is unbearable. I think I'll go to the store and show it to them.

This is a stupid question (maybe): don't you have the blue light filter on, have you?

I have the same exact issue. I have the blue light filter off, maximum brightness on, and basic display rather than adaptive, and still yellowish. When it initially starts up the screen is white, and then the Samsung software loads and it turns yellow. I factor reset it, same thing happens. Did you find a fix? I have been spending hours trying to fix this issue with zero luck.
same problem here exynos variant. yellowish when facing directly on screen but when viewed from different angle i got better color. hope we will get an answer to this problem of ours.
I have some problem, got it from Dubai.
i think mine is more serious. Whole screen is Yellowish
So this is on the Snapdragon models?
Here's an example of an unlocked US S9+ that I posted in the black crush thred.
The top of the screen was significantly brighter / warmer than the bottom even during the day. I ended up exchanging this device for another with the same problem. I gamble in the amoled lottery through a different retailer.

Hi Guys
I was Having exactly the same problem, but then I start thinking backwards and I realize that he problem start happening after I Activate night light for google ebooks, then I when there and deactivate night light and it fix my problem, and that is the reason why it affects your phone even if you reset the phone to fabric because the ebook night light is on google not on the phone inself.
Mine seems to be cool white, compared it to my s8
YELLOW TINT SAMSUNG S9+ EXYNOS 128gb Titanium Grey
Hey guys im living in saudi arabia we have the samsung exynos version
first and foremost the display is frighgin amazing nothing to say about that, next the whites, allthe background with white screen (csetting chrome youtube all bckgrnds ) everywhere its like a coffe dipped ( maybe a bit too much) but in general the white does not feel like its supposed to
its like the warm setting comes in default but
they had the same issues with s8 & s8+ last year the store guy told me "samsung had fixed it" :::::bull****.
there really is this yellow tint problem this is exactly what happened to me:
1. 13/04/18 bought the s9+ 128gb titanium grey from store
2.opened the box two days later (i know) was busy.
3.the moment i switched on it started troubling me going through the initial settings in mid brightness , i said to myself might be ready after setting up. Then when the phone swtiched on i forgot about it all coz the screen is beautiful you gotta admit that
anyways after sometime going through the ssetting i found the yellow tint i was friggin irritating.
4.i played a lot with the display settings
adpative display
WQHD+
yelloww tint
then went into the advanced made some rgb changes it is possible to get somewhat of a pure white screen but stilll it is not perfect
so on
5.18/04/18 i went back to the store showed em the problem u know what they said
"I'm the first one reporting such a complaint" anyways he said hell compare it with a piece , they got a s9 at first switched on and fish it had the same yellow tint. i had lost all hope
i told em compare it with the same model so they got another one black s9+ switched it on and "hurray" the screen was pure white( cool setting white) and they wer dumbstruck he called the supervisors they all saw the problem, they reset both the phones nothing anyway i got a replacement by closing time. took home the new s9+ grey
6. opened it " fish" it was the same yellow tint . anyways the store told me if i was facing the same issue again to come back.
so will update you guys after
But this is manufacturing issue i think go at once claim the warranty
we gotta shed come light on this topic becoz this being a new phone everyone isnt aware of it samsung should at once rectify this **** if a problem.
I am not an international user, but I would have to agree with the people in this thread who say that screen balance really is a lottery with the way that Samsung manufacturers AMOLED displays. The displays are produced in big sheets that some refer to as 'wafers' with each individual display punched out of that sheet. The closer your display was punched from the center of the sheet. The better quality/balance it will have. The displays punched out from the edges of the sheets are more likely to have discoloration, and other anomalies. With that being said, there is truly no such thing as a 'perfect' AMOLED display. The most you can hope for is one that is more or less within the tolerable limits of your expectations. I have a T-Mobile Snapdragon S9+ with a manufacture date placing it closer to what was probably the beginning of the second production wave after the initial pre-release wave and my display is pretty good. Little warmer than I am comfortable with but uniform in balance, very little shift, no crushing.
i have an international DUOS (dual sim) version of the G965F Exynos, and when compared with demo phones here in uk and a friends s9+ from o2 (all same settings) its more yellow ... a bit annoyed but its still a nice screen ...
same thing here in my country, all of the display units have cooler displays than my retail s9+ and i don't consider that to be an issue
i'm almost completely sure they tweak those display units, so they look better than the retail version.. after all, they need something to show off with, something that will attract the customers and what's better than the display? i mean, that's the first thing users see and interact the most with, so it kinda makes sense.. moreover, you cannot even open the display settings, because it crashes immediately after you tap on it

I also have s9 +.. and every time i was recording in QHD or UHD.. and then try to see what i had recorded..my screen was turning yellow with no reason.. like the blue light filter was on..even if this one is allways OFF. . . So i found out how to fix that and have no more problems after. Go to Settings - ACCESSIBILITY - VISION - And then close to the buttom you will see : COLOR ADJUSTMENT... You click o that, then turn this ON, and then go and choose :TRITAN ( blue and yellow ) or PERSONAL ... and this is it!
I think this problem is a software bug. I had done a hard reset etc.. but my problem wasn't fixed until i had done those settings on color adjustment!
HIT THE THANKS BUTTON IF YOU FOUND THIS USEFULL! THANK YOU
Here is the method used, posted by me on youtube:

Thanks for this tip, it fixed my yellowish screen instantly. I had turned night light on in Google Play books a week or so ago and forgot about it, but ever since my screen has been too warm and yellow and general Android Settings did not help. Problem solved as soon as I turned night light off in Play Books. Turning off blue light in general settings does not work.
So i swapped my first device kinda wish i hadent as the screen was great.
New device has green tint anything below 10% (this i can just about live with as i just raise brightness). However i recently noticed in direct sunlight yesterday that i can barely see screen and it tints purple (yes i have adaptive brightness on)
Now something really strange in bright sunlight when a shadow casts across a white screen , the shadow against screen is green has anyone else noticed this ......?
.
hard to capture properly as spare phone is an old iphone but the green shadow is from my hand which can be observed above , also notice how the white tints to purple.

Well the green tint below 10% i don't experience with my phone.
The other notion/complaint, is just natural properties of an OLED panel, all my previous phones had the purple in sunlight tint.
probably the brighter sunlight reflecting in one of the physical layers of the panel. Nothing you can get rid off unless you want LCD.

Look, the picture you took in sunlight is normal behavior and physics.
The low light low brightness pictures are indeed not normal, indeed should be exchanged for another device!

also, on the first photo I can see black bar near punch hole
exactly the same as on mine.. will probably send it back
Just got new phone July batch , first impressions are a lot less green tint ..... thank god June panel was a joke July panel I think its still there just a lot less this time ... will see later this evening and post picture back.
black bar across top i can see but not to bothered about this in all honesty.
Colours have to admit whites are cleaner as a result but rest look to be calibrated identical to last panel.
I think my first panel dated May was the best colours just seemed to wow instantly , everyone who saw phone commented on display in a positive manner.
** dupe post del
Here, this is how mine looks like at min brightness: green tint and horizontal bar
Sending it back

Seems to be some QC issues, I'd suggest getting a replacement, I can't see any of these issues on my device personally

Might that be because your device is prior to May on build?
I think it’s pointless replacing now I’ve had three models and it seems inherent now from my own experiences.
Do you use dark mode?
Sorry for the questions just trying to get some feedback
I’m only speculating but my latest device also has it my only device which didn’t have it was built in May , I’m wondering if the early batches had good panels for reviews etc and they cheaped out after that to bring production costs down (speculation as I say) but seen this before with other companies.
One thing I’ve noticed on my latest device is it goes a lot brighter than my previous June model. I’m thinking if I want to keep this device, I’m going to have use light mode which is a shame, if we had root we could just black out all the grey parts like status bar notifications etc and mask issue.

not sure about your theory abt early batches; my device's QC date is April 22 and yet I have display issues
seems this type of issues are pretty common with this panel which is used by both Oppo and OnePlus

well that shoots that theory down
I dont think there`s much point swapping its like looking for a unicorn either return and try a device without this samsung panel or find a way to live with it sadly :/

yep, seems so.. a lottery
the thing is that I can see this issue only at very low brightness, somewhere below ~15%
and in everyday use the display is perfect (I anyway always use light theme)
but then again it bothers me knowing it is there
on the fence now:
send the Oppo back (already have return label) and try luck again with OP8 Pro (order placed, should be dispatched tomorrow; I sent back my first OP 8 for a refund due to same display issues)
or just live with it, keep Oppo and cancel OP 8 order...

Hold onto oppo await OnePlus if it's green then decide on which phone to keep or return both ... Less swaps
Good luck ?
How do you see your QC date?

I cancelled OP8 order that day as I thought that I can live with Oppo's screen. But I can't, so I sent it back today.
Ordered OP8 pro again, it is arriving tomorrow. Will update once received, fingers crossed.
