Few questions about roms. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ive been playing around with android for a few months with rooting, roms, tweaks and a few other cool things on a few different devices. I just ordered a android tv stick with a 1ghz cpu and 1gb of ram. If you are wondering what the model of the device is it is mk802. Well anyway my question is the device comes pre rooted and i wanted to make some changes to the rom itself. I have no experiance with programming or devolping really anything. I know there is a command in the terminal emulator on android and when you put it in it basicly rips the rom and everything and puts it on the mini sd. Is there anyway i could maybe put this into a program thats simple and it makes me make simple changes to it like like tweaks and visual changes then flash it back on the device? Im currently using windows 7 on my main computer if you are wondering. Also if this is possible and i have to use linux im cool with that. Thanks.

[Q] Meego on the X10

Hey guys,
Would it be possible to install the ARM version of the cellphone version of meego in the same way the ARM version of ubuntu was installed on the X10? I'm no hacker or something like that so I don't know if this is a stupid question or not
BTW, I know this is the ANDROID development forum, but this seemed like the best place to post this question to me, if it isn't, feel free to put it somewhere else
It can only be considered once the bootloader is cracked

Your question is on the correct subforum, don't worry for that
In theory, it could be possible, but it's not viable in practice. MeeGo looks quite promising, however, the source has been optimized for the N900 which uses a Texas Instruments cpu, and X10 uses a Qualcomm. So first, you would need an adapted kernel, based on the x10 source, remove all the android patches and patch to allow meego to boot in there. You would also need to alter a pretty big bunch of libraries, and the most you'd get it is to boot. No sound, no touchscreen, of course no phone, not anything but the bare system.
Keep in mind there are lots of things on an Android phone that aren't opensource, and these libraries are what in the end make the device work "as a phone". It's a shame since meego looks quite good, I've tried it on a Clarion Mind (ivi image) and a netbook (netbook img) and looks nice.
So, in the end, possible? yes with a looot of effort. Useful for daily usage? not at all

But the bootloader doesn't need to get cracked or something like that, because that wasn't the way I was thinking of installing it, I wanted to let it run on top of Android, so android is running, you start meego over it using terminal and see the meego desktop using a VNCclient. That's the way it has been done with Ubuntu (and yes, ubuntu works on the X10, I have it installed myself on the phone)
Care to share how did you installed it?
I'll make a topic on how to install it on the x10

Dual Boot/Multi boot on NT - Android+(windows/linux/other tablet OS)

I'm wondering if it is possible to Dual Boot/Multi Boot Nook Tablet?
e.g. Android + Windows (of course the one for Tablets) OR Linux OR even iOS OR any other?
Anyone interested?
I can be part of this development, though i'm newbie in android world and mostly i'm playing with MatLab, C, C++, Jave (very less) etc. But i think i still can be useful somehow and i am also ready to use my NT for development/testing purpose (provided that i get some solution of backup/restore with apps installed)
thanks
I would consider looking up this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21323255
Adam provides a little bit of insight about dual booting from sdcard and more!

windows 8 doesn't work on the Nook. Only the devices which come out with windows 8 can actually run windows 8. ios also doesn't work because there's no source code out there. Linux is under development, I think it's Adam Outler who does that.
yes, for windows/ios, may not possible but i think, linux is possible. i have been going through the threads. actually due to some hardware issues, like processor etc. NT can't be generalized. also, even with rooting, we are still far behind in using its true capabilities.
CM9 is on it's way. Currently sound doesn't work, the kernel paniks sometimes and some minor bugs are the problems for the devs.
well, looking forward for CM9. i hope it will give more freedom than existing root...
I looking forward for CM7, maybe alpha version will be release few next days.

Full Unix to replace phone?

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I moved on to another phone a while ago. But I have always loved my Atrix... Has anyone ever thought about seeing what kind of linux unit our phones could be? I mean, minimal phone code & use both processors for Ubuntu or whatever popular arm linux is available.
My main deal here is that the phone w/ the lapdock has always been an awesome wifi terminal. I just feel like half of it's processor is wasted running the phone UI. Anyone have any plans for a full linux Atrix project?
& yes, I already have ubuntop on my Atrix & have had it since it came out.
& yes, I know Canonical has already stated they are working on Ubuntu for phones, but the stench of their Vaporware is hurting.
It all comes down to the kernel. With the limited support we have for our device, it's hard enough trying to run android on the thing (ICS); an operating system which is "native" for phones, it'll be that much harder to port desktop Linux. Standard Linux kernel is starting to come with android stuff, but it's still going to need device specific patches.
Now if ubuntu comes out with a universal arm/tegra kernel, that would be kind of amazing.

[Q] KitKat On A Chromebook

Hey XDA! This is my first post so bear with me...
Recently Acer announced their new Tegra K1 Chromebook and I have to say it's pretty intriguing. I really want to buy one, my only problem being Chrome OS. Don't get me wrong, I love it, it's just not robust enough for me. I want to really make use of the K1 by playing more high end games like ones for Android that are more optimized for it. Touchscreen not being a huge issue here. I'd use a PS3 controller of course. Plus with all the apps already developed for the Droid platform it makes a lot more sense than web based Chrome OS.
So, question time.....
Do you think it would be possible to install KitKat or maybe even Android L Beta on a system like this? I have researched it a little and the Tegra uses ARMv7 architecture. I don't know a whole lot about what that means, but as far as I understand it's 64-bit not 32. Does that mean I would have to use a special KitKat OS on this? Also how in the world would I go about doing this? I have successfully installed Ubuntu (I think 12.04) on an older Samsung Chromebook which dual boots both Ubuntu and Chrome OS; however, I am not sure that the steps involved would be the same. Seeing as how this is a fairly new device, Google is of no help whatsoever....
EXTRA, EXTRA!
Would it be possible to make Android the default OS so it auto boots without going to the OS verification screen?
Thanks for reading! Really hope I can get some answers, looking forward to doing some "real" gaming on the cheap!

New Panasonic TV with Firefox OS...rootable?

Hi,
my mom won a crazy 55" Panasonic TV, one of the brand new models running on Firefox OS. Not bad , since she needed a new one anyway. But I want to bring this thing to the internet now, I'm always scared of stuff I can't control so the question is simple: Are there chances to get root access or at least a way to install apps running as root or whatever? Or forget about it and buy a Android Settop Box? I mean I'm interested in this new thing from Mozilla, looks promisiong and runs very smooth, stable and all that from what I can tell at this point although it doesn't seem to have a shell but Android is so damn easy, mouse and keyboard are no problem (and would cost a few bucks to get it in this case, too but that's not the problem).
OK, not rootable in terms of getting SU like access the way it works on other platforms but a very open platform, that allows a lot by default (don't know if I failed because of permissions or stuff I tried isn't possible at all...I mean it's a TV...) if you're interested read on here:
How to create and setup your Development Environment
How to connect to your TV with Mozialls WebIDE
Not sure if it's step forward until now but it's a damn interesting new toy to play around with.
