I was going to flash MeanROM, but the install notes about having latest radio, i.e., >1.12, etc.
Then there are lengthy guide to flashing radio etc.
So is my radio 1.02? Is that really old? Should I upgrade it?
But to do that I need to re-lock, flash RUU, re-unlock, and re-install TWRP??? That sounds like a PITA.
Is there no quicker way? (On my Evo OG it was just 1 simple flash.)
And then I would lose ability to S-OFF? I'm still not clear why that should matter to me.
Finally, if I want to use a rooted stock ROM, what's the latest version, and where do I get it?
Thanks!
You don't need to update but if you want to, you can directly flash the updated firmware

If you are s-off you get access to all the partitions on your device and this will allow you to upgrade your firmware as it becomes availible if you can still get s-off I would strongly recommend it less BS and hassle down the road. my 2 cents
But is it true that even if I S-OFF now, I will lose that once i flash a new radio?
No, just root if you ruu. Don't ruu or accept ota, just go to development and download the firmware zips that are provided.

Yup that's the one
So ... to sum up ... if I want to try MeanROM, I should just
1. Flash that new radio from recovery
2. Wipe & flash MeanROM
That's it?
Thanks for the help!
Yes
HELP!
I just flashed the 1.12 radio ... I think my recovery is gone. All I get is bootloader (unlocked, S-ON)
What do I do now???
Sorry never mind ... didn't realize I had to go into the BOOTLOADER option, THEN i got recovery.
Whew.

Well there is no Q&A section so I thought I'd post here. My friend had an Eris and he put the 2.1 leak on it way back when it first came out. And then the root was acquired but you couldn't downgrade. So he called Verizon and asked them for a new phone, he got it but it turns out the phone already has 2.1 on it. What do we do now to root it/put other roms on it.
Thanks in advanced.

The root process should be the same as for 1.5, provided you don't have HBOOT 1.49 on the phone (and you shouldn't, since the 2.1 upgrade doesn't write a new HBOOT at the factory).
Give it a shot..

I got my Eris about 2 weeks ago and it has the 1.49 hboot on it. I cannot root unfortunately.
Turn off phone. Hold down "Volume+Down" and press the Power button. You should get a white screen with wording on it. Read the line that has "hboot" in it and post the full details here.

yeah his says 1.49
But I was reading somewhere that once you root you get 1.49, so does that mean his 2.1 is rooted already?

No that just means the firmware on there is the most recent version that blocks the old trick for gaining root on this phone. Well, it kinda blocks it indirectly because you can't flash from 1.49 to anything lower and the root rom is lower. You can't root that phone that you just got from Verizon, and I'm in the same boat as you. We're hoping for a solution soon!
my eris says that it has HBOOT 1.46, can i root?
u should be able too

In order to release your phone from this state I recommend using adb and fastboot on your pc.
I too experienced this when I updated from 2.08.... to 2.17.... Following this I ran the Ruu from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239821

I Replied to your PM, let me know if that works.
I didn't look at the picture well, but one thing I do suggest and that can be cause of some issues over the process is that you need to unlock the bootloader from your phone again.
if i flash to official via exe method from coolics V7 does i need to downgrade it first ?
I take it your s-on, unlocked right? We need a little more details like what Rom your on? Hboot, firmware, radios what recovery? Stuff like that. The answer to your question is no. Just make sure your bootloader Is relocked before you run the exe.

it was not succesed it's show error in Thai language mean "not correct ulitility rom"
now i unlock my bootholader again and restore my backup to use the phone.
what should i do to revert back to original rom :silly:

The pictures are a little fuzzy, but based on the second one it looks like you are already on build 1.22.707.4, or at least that's your current mainver (build level). With S-ON you can only flash a build at the same level or higher than your current level, so you would need an RUU at 1.22.707.4 or higher to flash it with S-ON.
If you unlock again with the same token you used previously and install a rooted ROM, you should be able to flash the SetMainVersionLow.zip in this post from a custom recovery to change your mainver to a low value and then you should be able to relock and successfully run either of the RUU's above.

You have a different problem now. The RUU.exe you are trying to flash doesn't match the CID of your phone.
If you go into your ADB directory on a PC and issue the "fastboot getvar cid" command it will return the value of your current CID and maybe someone will be able to tell you what RUU.exe you need.

Hello all. I'm new here and definitely new to modifying my phone. A few months back I got impatient and installed a leaked version of ICS on my phone. Now I can't get the official release. When I check for an update, it says there isn't one available. All I want to do is get it to the official "stock" version. How do I do this? I've been reading about S-on and S-off and things like that and don't know what most of it means. When I installed the leak, I found a download link and instructions on a different website and was able to follow them. I would just like some guidance getting it to accept the official release or something that works well. It seems like the version I have has some bugs and doesn't work right all of the time. My current software version is 3.13.605.7 710RD. Thanks in advance.

Ur right. If you were on say 3.03 and flashed 3.14 while S-On, U can't flash a previous version or else U could brick ur device. However if U S-off , U could revert to any versions. But if ur still on stock, U can S-off and do the steps mentioned above, and the S-On again.

Please help: I am stuck with stock ICS ROM from Sprint. I install ROMs with 4EXT, but both what I tried so far:
CyanogenMod10: WILD-FOR-THE-NIGHT-02152013-shooter.zip
and 2 months old Cool-ICS-v10-EvoC.zip (which I installed successfully on my previous Evo 3D)
both give me a boot loop.
I only can load Sprint's 4.0.3 with HTC Sense 3.6.
Yes, I wiped data/factory reset, and cleared cache and dalvik multiple times.

That's a bad flash. Try reflashing the ROM and if that doesn't work download it again and make sure to check the MD5 value against the one in the OP.
Also, make sure you "format all partitions except SD" card in the 4EXT recovery wipe/format menu before flashing again.
At least you are past the booting problem.

Thanks for troubleshooting me. I tried other ROM, and it worked. Now I have HBOOT 1.57 and Viper3D ROM with Nova launcher and 4.1 HTC Sense. I will play with it to see how I like it - so far it's very good. At least it's not a stock Sprint's ROM, which was giving me headaches. I will leave the upgrade to CM for later. Now I know how to flash bootloaders and ROMs.
Thank you again for you help!
