brought from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933737
hi friends
i have installed rootbox-jb-i9100-v2.9.zip on my samsung s2
i did it via cwm recovery version 6.0.6(i hope the version is correct)
i have kernel-cm-10-20120801-19100-signed.zip and when i try to click on pda in odin i dont see this file
i have already used cwm 6 to flash cwm 10 by putting it onto sdcard and erasing cache data and dalveick partition etc
moreover the yellow triangle is also not dissappearing
i put the phone on download mode
fire up odin
click pda and then cant see this file..
please suggest

I suggest you stop opening duplicate threads about the same thing.
Now you were told in other thread odin doesnt use .zip files,it likes .tar files.
So visit the thread of the rom you want, read the install guide, follow the instructions.
Read the rules and basic guides on here otherwise youll end up a failure.......lol

[Q] kernels

I have downloaded the kernels i need to root my samsung galaxy s2 , but when i open my zip file i dont get the kernal, i get a zimage file which i cant do nothing with can any one help thanks so i can root my phone
This should be in Q&A, but you need to use ODIN to flash the .tars or .pits or .pdas or whatever-they-are
I need to learn to read actually, if you're unzipping and getting a zimage that's the kernel itself.
You'll need to flash the .zip through your Recovery (CWM)
If your wanting to update through odin download as tar file instead of a zip
This guy already got sorted out in this other thread he started.
(BTW OP, bad form posting the same question in two threads, only minutes apart. There is a rule against this...)

I said Philz but you cannot even be bothered to read the instructions in the thread .
Odin packages instructions Odin Files posted on the first page also .
Download links
Last version can be found here:

Odin packages instructions
They come in the form of .tar.md5 file
boot into download mode
start odin3 and configure it as in picture below
connect phone in download mode to PC via USB
press start to flash the tar.md5 package
normally, phone should auto-reboot into recovery.
If it reboots into android and your recovery remains stock, repeat above steps and untick "autoreboot" in odin. Once flash is done, keep pressing power button + home + vol up until it reboots (always will go to recovery)
when in recovery, if you choose option "reboot system now" and you get "yes - disable flash recovery", select that option to avoid stock recovery overwriting cwm
I really really suggest you avoid rooting or flashing anything at all until you can be bothered to read the basic faqs and guides .
YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE.

I want to install Cyanogen mod on my phone, never rooted before

Hello, I read the stickies about rooting and backing up but I am unsure which method to use. I have a Galaxy S3 that I never touched as far as rooting goes and I just want to install cyanogen mod first and try that out. The thing is the stickies mention various ways to root and I was just looking for one that is most suited for my current needs. Also, what custom recovery should I install?
Thanks
Read general > sticky roll-up thread > understanding the basics before rooting. It answers all your questions. It supplies only ONE recommended method

Ok I have rooted my phone with Odin, backed up my esf along with sms and other stuff I need, and installed TWRP. The thing is when I go to cyanogenmod download their instructions are for CWM recovery and I'm supposed to download the Android SDK to transfer the ROM on my phone? How do I install it with TWRP?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32664054 this thread says to just move it like that in my root.

softbricked

Hi. I think i soft bricked my phone because its stuck at the logo but i can go to recovery and download mode. i even flashed ms1 stock rom with odin but without the .pit file and no changes. where can i get the pit file and is it the only way?
EDIT:in the stock recovery there is an error saying read only file system
1- You can search "softbrick" and read other users' experiences.
2- If you are looking for your stock firmware, you can search samfirmware.com or your variants development forums.
3- If you can use recovery you can nuke your phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2532929
Good luck and get back if you have troubles.

No, using PIT file is not advisable as it brings more trouble to u
So since its a Boot loop issue for now, Just flash a Custom Kernel like 'Philz' from ODIN and then use its recovery to do a full wipe and then reboot ur phone and check
Search for 'Philz' kernel thread and once there read the first post carefully and act

[Q] Deleted my OS, please help

I've been an idiot and managed to wipe my OS. I have TWRP and I was wondering what the easiest way to recover my OS would be.
Am I right in thinking I can get a stock rom from samsung updates, stick it on the SD card and flash it on?
IF so, can any of you give me detailed instructions or point me to some?
Thanks.
If you still have your recovery partition intact then u can just download a custom ROM (flashable zip file format) of your choice and flash thru TWRP. Hey presto fone fixed.
Check out the S3 android and original android dev pages, look thru them till you see one you like. Preferably pre-rooted.

Go to sammobile.com and download the latest stock rom for your country. Follow the guide in general forum on how to flash with Odin.

Odin doesn't seem to work for me, I boot into TWRP, connect via USB with Odin up and nothing changes.
Follow the guide, Odin uses download mode not recovery.
If you keep doing things without reading and understanding first then you will hard brick it.

@boomboomer is right you need to stop panicking sit back and read the stickies in the general thread >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/samsung-galaxy-s3-sticky-roll-thread-t2344125 << you are lacking basic knowledge and need to read up or you will end up with a paper weight as a phone.:crying:
I fixed it with a custom ROM via SD Card and install in TWRP. Sorry I forgot how to enter download mode as opposed to recovery mode. Thanks for all your help everyone.
