[U][ICS] Simplified Quickpanel Statusbar Concept - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hi, I've been using Quickpanel for my status bar/notifications on the Xperia U for a while now but I find it overcrowded.
Here's my concept for how the Status bar should be (pop the image on your Xperia U and view it in the gallery/album to see how tidy it looks on screen):
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
As there are already plenty of other ways to access settings and because it always sat in an awkward position I thought I'd just do away with that. Rather than having the date further down, the icons on the left of the status bar now fade as your drag it down and it is replaced with a simplified date.
The toggle icons on various versions I find to be over-designed, so here I've replaced them with simpler icons and a simpler colour scheme. The icons next to the clock have been spaced away from the clock a little and slightly re-organised.
And finally, instead of having a cyan-coloured splitter as well as additional miniature bars to signify the status of the toggles; I've now merged them into one. So...
..when a toggle is off it is dark grey with the part of the splitter below it being dark grey and 2px high.
..when it is toggled on it is very light grey with the part of the splitter below it being dark grey and 2px high.
..and when active it is again very light grey but with the part of the splitter below it being cyan and 5px high.
The only problem is this is just a visual design made in Xara, while I know how to swap out icons and change the colour of some things, I have no idea how to do the layout in the XML files and how to modify behaviour etc.
So if a developer who likes this wants to make something of the design (preferably as close as possible to it) you're more than welcome and I'd be happy to whip up more icons and provide any other visual assets required so you can make a SystemUI/Quickpanel theme; assuming it is possible to this extent. You can put your name on it as long as I get a "designed by" credit.
EDIT1:
I've attached a few images below showing different versions ("Simplified" & "Complex") and in different colour schemes ("Cyan", "Lime" & "Mono").

Dear Mitchio!
I wish that there were much mods looks like yours. But, unfortunately, there are two kind of people, my friend. Those who hade knowledge to make things work and those who know (like you) how they suppose to look god. For example, I don,t use any status bar mod, for example, couse of stupid dialog at reboot menu or any design stupidity they included. So I wish more cooperation between modders and designers too.
Regards, Zagor
Xperia S

it looks good and neat. much better than those i have seen previously in this forum. but just a suggestion, can you remove the blue line under each toggle? and put a clear button that disappears if you dont have notifications. something like what sony has done with the xperia T toggles.
---------- Post added at 08:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:44 PM ----------
how about modifying the stock from xperia t? with stock battery and all, just make one that has about 15 toggles.

Thanks for your feedback guys.
And ambetdelarosa, the idea was to minimise the toggle's vertical footprint for by merging the cyan splitter and the toggles; but I'll make a modified version or two tomorrow.

thanks for the response!
it looks good mate, but can you make it compatible with xperia acro S? how about making one for the xperia s and acro that looks like this one? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1925727 don't you wanna have something like this on your xperia U?

Edited my original post and added some attachments.

I like the first version the best. Great concept!

Anybody care to Share icons?

Anybody got any awesome icons I've been looking around I have really found an icon sharing page
V5 custom vibrant
http://launcherpro.droidicon.com/ has quite a few. However, most of them are monochromatic, for LauncherPro, but an app they offer allows you to get user-defined color versions of everything they have on the site. (change icon color/drop shadow color)
That's cool but I was thinking more custom user made I did however find an awesome transparent xda icon there
V5 custom vibrant
Just do a Google search for free icons any.png or.ico file works. You'll findliterally hundreds of icons to use. I use better cut and change my whole theme withy mood.

Have anything in mind?
I'm growing a bit bored with my icons... have anything in mind? I wouldn't mind knocking out 5-15 custom icons for the dock...
Also...
http://findicons.com Is a pretty decent site... a lot of stuff for use on PC/Mac, but quite a bit of phone stuff too...
I like the clear kind of icon but really would like some super hero clear icons not sure if I'm being descriptive enough
V5 custom vibrant
Clear?
When you refer to "clear", do you mean transparent backgrounds or monochromatic semi-transparent? Also, are we talking the logos, the hero portraits or both? Lastly, are you looking for Marvel? D.C.? or more obscure publishers?

I use LauncherPro, but also use these icons when I use a native Android shorcut... any PNG should work really...
Also, I decided to slap all the icons I've created (not just superheroes) into a zip if anyone is interested (attached).

[Q] Launcher that uses the wallpaper?

I recall a homescreen thread some time ago (last year) that I can't find now. One of the posters presented his homescreen, which had no traditional icons of any sort. Instead, he used a wallpaper that he created and used a launcher that would make certain regions open certain apps. They were not square regions. He mapped the regions by actually drawing them. This way, he didn't need to adhere to the grid structure, and his icons were integrated in the wallpaper, creating a sort of spiral formation of items of various geometries.
Anyone know what I'm talking about? Trying to find that app.
The technique is called "Ninja App." Here's the wallpaper you were referring to:

I made my own beach-themed version a while back: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12658060&postcount=63
and here's the thread about it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=987059
The wallpaper itself is actually still on a grid...you just use customize the launcher to have more icon places (such as making it 6x6 or 8x8), then placing a transparent icon where the image is on the wallpaper and link the icon to the action you want. I used ADW EX when I made mine so I could hide the status bar and dock, but any launcher that allows customizing the number of icons on the rows/columns will work.

Thanks a lot! I really appreciate the tidy organization of your post and comprehensiveness of your brief tutorial on how to achieve your desired effect.
I'm even more impressed that you actually found homescreen that matches my description, because I was making it up! I was on a Dell Streak forum and people were showing off their homescreens. One poster had paint blotches spattered across the screen with the title of an app littered within each blotch. I didn't think people would respond to kindly to a Dell Streak description (i.e. "You're in the wrong thread," "wrong forums," etc.), so I wrote up something reasonable and hoped someone would know what I was talking about. I am a Vibrant user, however, so it's all good!
You are very welcome! Always happy to help a fellow vibrant user.
You're description was so on point with that wallpaper, I thought for sure that was what you'd "seen." How funny! I guess you were destined to use it with the Ninja App technique.
Let me know if you have any questions about how to do it. Like I mentioned, I used ADW Ex and made the grid larger to be able to better place the transparent icons, and ADW Notifier for the notifications.
You'll have to post a screenshot of your setup once it's done to show how it turned out!

[Theme Resource] Guide of helpful theming Locations

I noticed that one of the largest problems I had when I tried to start creating custom themes was I could never find the images or locations of images that I wanted to change. I am trying to help others out by creating a easy to understand guide to locations. I am not an expert themer by any means and if I got anything wrong or I missed something please let me know, I am also still trying to learn.
This is information I gathered from experience as well as several guides mainly these. here, here and here
This is Just a start I hope to expand this further and add more.
Also This is based off of the stock moto 4.5.91 gingerbread release.

1. Carrier sign. This can be found and removed in the SystemUI.apk status_bar.xml.at the end of line of line 5 by reducing the padding to 0.
2.Status Bar. This image is found in SystemUI.apk as statusbar_background.
3/4.Data icons/Signal Strength/Wifi. In SystemUI.apk listed as stat_sys_data. In the moto rom there is both full and normal. I recomend changing both to the same image. In the same location you will find wifi labeled stat_sys_wifi. The signal strength icons are also there. However the ones that show up in the status bar are labled zz_moto_stat_sys_signal_5bar. These are the ones that need to be changed.
5.Battery icon. In the framework-res.apk. In the stock rom there are only 5% increments for unplugged and 7 for charging. If you use a different rom with the 1% batt mod you will need icons for every percent.
6.Clock. The color can be changed in two ways. First you can add android:textColor="TEXTCOLOR" to line 5 in status_bar.xml. Second you can change the text color in SytemUI/res/values/styles but this effects all notification titles as well.
Picture 2
1.Sliders. These are in the framework-res. Are under zz_moto_jog_tab. Only the ones that refer to left and right need to be changed.
2.Lockscreen overlay image. This is in the framework as zz_motot_gradient
Picture 3
1.Notification drawer close. Found in SystemUI as Status_bar_close_on
2.Notification drawer background. Found in framework-res. It is called status_bar_background
3.Notification items. Found in framework-res as status_bar_item_background. There is a whole set for pressed and focused that goes with it.
4.Notification Titles. AS stock these are solid colors controlled by shade_bgcolor in drawables.xml in SystemUI.
5.Individual clear button. This is in framework-res as zz_moto_btn_contorl_remove. There is also a series of these for focused and pressed.
6.Date title bar. As stock this is found in SystemUI as title_bar_portrait.
For 6 and 4 these can be changed and more info can be found here in Nottach's excellent guide.
7.The clear button. This image is in the framework-res. It is btn_default_small_normal. There is also a series of these. The text color can be changed on line 7 of status_bar_expanded.xml in the SystemUI.
Reserved. (10 Char)
Thanks!

This is definitely a great guide and something every one looks for every now and then. I will add to this as well when I get some time, there are so many though! haha.

[Q] Anyone doing special requests modding?

I thought about posting this is themes, but it is a question.
I prefer the stock feel of my OS with just a few tweaks. I hate the stock status bar lack of color. I want the original icons in cyan. I want the circle battery icon instead of the battery.
I need someone willing to build an .apk installer with my systemUI needs in it for me.
I've been using Jelly Beans 19 ROM and it's as close to perfect as any rom.
Also, if someone is willing to create a power boot menu with the recovery option .apk, that would be awesome.
I'm willing to pay reward/donate to anyone willing to help me out.
THANKS

Then my theme sounds right for you . There is options to skip the base theme and select status bar icon colors (they are stock just colored) a selection for toggles and plenty of battery choices. There is also S-Pen sounds and icons and mods for Clean Rom 3.5V.
The mods are all listed on my thead, check it out.

Edit: And it doesnt replace your APK, its universal .

Ok Thanks. I'm going to give it a try. But I have to admit, I'm pretty anal about my circle battery icon. Yours are cool, but not quite IT.

I can take one of the batteries above or from my other theme and possibly flip the image but it would have to be without numbers. Let me know. PM me.

Post your favorite ZTE Locker Wallpapers here!!!

I am opening this thread to allow everyone to have access to the best ZTE Locker daily collection wallpapers. This is particularly important if like me you forgot to save a favorite wallpaper - they together removed the following day.
To save a wallpaper you just tap on the heart symbol and then move it to the MFVKeyguard folder by saving it as a favorite.
I have attached some of my favorites.

One picture I missed is a picture of the palace from the wallpaper below but from a different perspective. I would appreciate if you could post it!

Very nice selection! :good:
Hey, I'm sorry if this might be a bit off-topic but since this thread is about ZTE Locker it's probably the best opportunity I'll have to bring this up. (without cluttering up the forum with a new thread)
tl;dr - I suggest some MiFavor UI improvements
So, if you use ZTE Locker that's great and all, but all pics are different.
And in cases such as the one I have attached, the clock is not clearly visible, nor are the icons at the bottom.
And with your launcher, it samples your set wallpaper for a hue and alters the MiFavor QuickSettings background based upon that. But, this can lead to some... questionable results. For example, if I were to set my wallpaper to something that is primarily yellow, ZTE is put in a dilemma.
White on bright yellow isn't really readable, so they'd have to use a darker shade. But have you ever seen dark yellow?
It's one nasty ass color. (look up #888800)
And I know different people have different color tastes, but there's still certain colors and combinations that are considered unfavorable. Yay for color theory!
So, with yellow they'd probably be best off using black text and icons.
But a color like purple is usually thought of as a deep color (though lavender is nice too) so they can stick with the white icons and text.
Ultimately, it's probably best to give the user to decide whether to use the dynamic view or to set their own color manually.
I just feel like ZTE is very new to the UI scene. But, I'm not a fan of ditching MiFavor for completely stock Android. I think ZTE has something to bring to the table. They just need to work on their color sampling and maybe make some UI adjustments based on the user's preferences.
Anyhow, that's my 2 cents
Definitely one of my favorites!
Definitely kept me smiling for the rest of the day

i just found 3 new wallpapers, thank you
I have about 70 of them on my phone
Also, I did a reverse image search on one and found they steal them from other sites.
It seemed like a handful were on a photo of the week thing on usatoday.com but I can't remember
Can anyone upload a compressed (doesn't compress much I know) archive of the ZTE wallpapers? Ever since I unlocked my bootloader it no longer loads for me, it just says weak signal no matter what. I don't know if it's a coincidence and there's something wrong with their server or if it won't allow modified systems to connect.
Here's a few more from yesterday
