Not receiving all of my sms - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I have searched the forums and google but couldn't seems to find a solution...
I noticed that my SGS3 with omega rom v27.1 is not receiving all sms sent to me.
I cannot reproduce the problem as the phone just randomly not registering a sms sent to me, it does not have a pattern (e.g. from a certain person) for me to trace the source of the problem.
I thought it was the stock sms app that is causing the issue so I am now using Go sms but still losing sms every now and then.
Is there anyone had a same/similar issues and know how to resolve it?
Thanks.

That is odd, normally you either get sms or don't. If you don't then it's normally a fault APN configuration. Have you tried fixing permission in recovery as well as wiping dalvik and cache? Might try those to see if it gets better

i registered just to reply to your question as i know how frustrating it is!
I had the same problem. Hopefully it will solve yours unless u had done a little more than what i had done.
I was using a third party sms app (handcent) and so disabled the stock messaging app as i didnt need it. this caused my phone to receive messages i sent myself about a minute later! and was fixed after enabling the stock app and the a quick reboot. Try it!
If not, a full flash to your rom or stock rom will most definitely fix it. But thats the long way.

Its not odd at all.
I was receiving one of every two texts sent by the same person.
Furthermore, when the text was preceded by a network prefix requesting a delivery report such as *0# for O2, i always received it.

Thanks for your reply, I have also had my stock messaging app enabled but obviously that does not solve my problem.
I might reflash my ROM and see how it goes.

temporary solution for you
Me too I have the same problem. I found a fix you have to install Ghostly SMS.
This issue was repported to Google. Can't post outside link.
Look like a problem when you have low memory. I use a custom rom Omega v42 which limit text message to 1000. I just lower it to 200 to see what happen.
What is your SMS limit?
Are you running low in memory?

Text message time stamp

Hi
Is there any way to change the time stamp on received text messages from the time I received it to the time it was sent? If I have the phone off or out of range, I need to know when it was sent.
Thanks

Yes, there is a way to change it. Could you not find it when you searched for terms such as SMS and time?

The only solutions I could find is to install a mod, but I need the phone rooted for that or download another SMS app from the market.
Maybe my searching skills ned tweaking, but I can't see a simple way to do it on the unrooted Stock ROM with the standard SMS app.
Anyone able to help me please?

I had the same problem. From what I gathered, there was an issue with the time stamps while on certain nerworks (mine was on Rogers). There is an app in the store that fixes it. its called SMS Time Fix. I'm not sure if you need your phone rooted for this since mine is rooted but its worth a try. It fixed my problem.

I am still having issues and I am still unable to find a solution to the problem.
It is not the issue that is described in this thread when refering to the Rogers provider http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1181716 and the SMSFix only makes it worse. It isn't a network issue, it is a phone software issue.
I have an unrooted Telstra phone and I won't update or root it until I have a Telstra ROM to be able to flash back for warranty purposes.
In the Windows Phones it was a registry tweak, so surely in the Android phones there is some sort of tweak to correct this.
My phone is off between 6pm and 8am every day, any texts I receive I need to know when they were sent so that when I switch my phone on at 8am, they all don't show 8am as the time stamp. If it was sent at 10pm the previous night, then I need the sms app to show 10pm the previous night.
Hopefully someone can assist, as I have searched and I am yet to find a solution that works.

[Q] GALAXY S2 I9100 cannot send sms

Hi,
Since yesterday i cannot send any sms/mms.
The mobile is able to receive sms but when trying to send a new message i get a sending..... status and that's all. The message is not send.
I have checked the Message center number it is Ok
When changing my SIM to another phone ......it works
I contacted VODAFONE to send the setup.....they did it but nothing
I DO NOT WANT TO FACTORY RESET THE PHONE.
Does anybody knows something?
Service stopped or anything?
Backup all your stuff and perform a factory data reset...it will fix the issue.

Hi snest,
I have the exact same issue, since 5th-Feb-2012. It seems to be related to the stock messaging app. Don't have a clue what went wrong, but it just stopped sending messages. I have no issues receiving though...
I've checked my logs and I didn't install anything. Perhaps I did some updates, I'm not sure...
I also called Vodafone PT to check if everything was ok, and it was.
So I decided to start my own testing in order to try to narrow down the problem.
1st test: different SIM. No go, same problem, which means the problem is on the phone.
2nd test: restore the latest ROM backup (CWM). It worked. I was able to send/receive SMS flawlessly. The only problem was the backup date... it was 2 months old. My bad.
--> At this point I realized that the problem was on the messaging app. Something messed with it.
3rd test: Install a messaging app from the market and re-test. So I flashed the current ROM back (I backed up just before test #2), and when it came up I re-tested. No go. Then I installed the Handcend Messaging app from the Market, tested, et Voilá. It works.
I tested the stock messaging app once again and nothing, but from Handcent works like a charm.
So it's proven: the problem is on the stock messaging app.
A hard reset will solve the issue for sure, but before going there I'd like to try to reinstall the stock messaging app, if possible...
If your S2 is not rooted yet, a hard reset is the (only) way to go. I don't see any other way to solve this...
Cheers
Hi, I had a similar problems a little while after I installed handcent. SMS stopped sending. I had done some messing around removing bloatware with titanium prior to that, so assumed it was something I had done. I went back and defrosted all the apps I had frozen, but SMS still not working :-( I then thought to reinstall handcent, after which the problem disappeared , so in my case it was the other messaging app causing the problem!
My advice would be to try a different SMS app and see if that fixes the problem. Might be enough to get things going again.

This was the reason why I installed Handcent - to try and "wake up" the stock messaging app. Handcent works flawlessly, but it didn't solve the original issue.
I never had any other messaging software installed before, and my bloatware was removed a long time ago (October 2011) right after flashing a new Android version (2.3.5). So this was not the root cause for the messaging app to stop sending sms...
Go SMS Solved the problem?
Hi All,
Thank your for your replies.
I installed the Go SMS and merely resolved the problem of sending SMS.
But still I can not sent via stock messaging apk .

Try clearing data from your Messaging app from menu > applications > manage applications.
Unfortunately cleaning data did not solve the problem.
Factory reset. Or do a clean flash of GB stock rom.
Same difference, pick your poison. You may not like it but that's the only thing that's going to fix the problem (unless it is a network/apn/sim problem).
Most probably the Message centre Number has got corrupted...
Do this..
Open messaging ... Menu... settings..scroll down to Message Centre..
Note down the number ...
Either contact the network service provider...or first check the network provider support forums...to see if the number is correct...
once this message centre number has been corrected..you should be able to send messages...
I dont use Go SMS... but if you see the number there...you can copy it to stock messaging app..
I forgot to update this thread... Sorry.
I managed to isolate the issue, and found that the problem was on the messaging app itself (mms.apk) that somehow got corrupted. I tried to reinstall from an old APK backup, but it got worse, it stopped working completely.
After several hours and many tests, I ended up restoring a 2 month old CWM image (equivalent to a Factory Reset). Then I fully restored a 2 days old backup (Titanium Backup) leaving out mms.apk. Problem solved.
In your case, my advice is:
1. Install Titanium Backup from the market and perform a Full Backup (to SD card, otherwise you'll just loose it);
2. Factory Reset;
3. Setup the basics, access the market, and install Titanium Backup;
4. Full Restore (all files) EXCEPT mms.apk.
This is the only way to have the messaging app to work again with minimum (acceptable) data loss. Good luck.
Excellent advice Mnico

Hi macnaque.
Your problem is slightly different from the one that is being discussed on this thread... and a lot easier to solve as well.
It seems that your problem is due to a simple misconfiguration of the Message Centre number for your main carrier. Try the following:
- Boot the phone using your main carrier SIM. Then open the original Messaging app, and open "Settings". Scroll down to "Text Message (SMS) settings" and compare the number you have set under "Message Centre" to the one provided by your carrier. (you may need to check their website or call the customer support service to get it)
I had this same issue just 5 or 6 days after buying my S2. Somehow the last digit of the Message Centre number just... disappeared. Never happened again though.
Same issue fixed
I had the same issue on ShoStock rom on my SGH-I777, Put my sim in another phone and was able to receive messages just fine, BUt when I had my Sim out, I did a simple reboot on my phone and then put the Sim back in and rebooted the phone again and everything works just fine. I am pretty sure it had something to do with the efs folder and the IMEI number because when the sms wouldn't work, I could not open the efs folder but after the reboot and the sms working I can open the folder and view the contents,
I had the same problem. I tried everything and only installing rom by odin works for me.

Duplicate sent SMS with Handcent/GoSMS in LPQ ? (not in LPH)

I upgraded to XXLPQ (polish) from XXLPH yesterday.
I'm now seeing duplicate (2, somebody said 3) SMS's sent to a recipient for each one I send.
Received texts aren't duplicated
Only goSMS (or handcent) is set to notify
"stock" SMS app does NOT lead to duplicates
This didn't happen in XXLPH
Wanted to check if anyone else has this issue? Next step is probably clearing SMS data or indeed a full wipe
I got the same situation here. Everything Ok with stock messaging, but with Go Sms Pro, it duplicate sms >.< Looking for solution !!
Yep, same here, though i updated from gingerbread not from an ics beta.

It seems more likely to be an issue with the firmware. As it affects all 3rd party SMS apps. Pretty sure there aren't issues on the nexus so possible not a general ics issue?

I have the same issue but I'm also not getting contact pictures in any third party apps.. not in Go contacts, Go SMS, Handcent, Whatsapp.
Tried them all and I get nowt but the stock app gets the pictures perfectly. I've removed and re-added accounts a number of times but giving up now unless someone knows of a way around it.
Same problem
I'm also getting the same problem.
Did a full wipe before installing the ROM
Did not restore settings for go sms, but did restore my messages
I have also tried freezing messaging in titanium backup and disabling messaging in the settings. Neither seams to work.
Has anyone had any success with fixing this?
I am also facing this problem. First i thought this might be due to GO Sms . I uninstalled GO SMS and installed Handcent_SMS .. Same problem there
Sending duplicate messages (GO SMS and Handcent)
Not showing contact pictures in messages list (GO SMS and Handcent)
Anyone got the solution ???
Not sure, seems strange!
Possibly a Firmware issue, maybe a App issue
We shall see what other ssay!
same problem here
report the issue to the devs
did so for handset via email [email protected]
supply phone info
software info
and if possible logcat
Chainfire Kernel not to blame
I still have the problem after reverting to the stock kernel (3.0.15-I900XXLPQ-CL223505 [email protected] #3)
I was hoping that reverting back to stock kernel would fix it, but that is sadly not the case.
At least we know that it's not the chainfire kernel causing it
Same problem here (with Go SMS and browsertexting).
I have emailed both devs, I would suggest everyone sending emails to the app devs to hurry things along
Strikes me as something that has changed within the firmware from Samsung,
Gingerbread Roms (Official and cooked) never caused the issue for me whilst using Go SMS its like something within the ICS firmware is refusing third part apps access to the facebook contact photos.. or maybe its something within the Facebook app that's blocking third party stuff.
default sms app is giving me issues with sms ringtones not working
Hey all,
I updated to I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXALPQ_I9100XXLPQ_HOME.tar
and getting the same, default messaging app is fine, but when I have any other messaging app installed all my messages are being sent twice. I have tested this with Go SMS and Handcent, so to me sounds more like a Samsung problem.
Back to using the default app for the moment so...

No point in doing that. As this happen with all 3rd party messaging app, it is clearly a firmware issue.
It's definitely not an ICS issue otherwise the GNexus would be affected as well.

It's definitely a firmware issue but app devs maybe able to fix or work around the issue faster then it takes Samsung to correct it. Can't hurt
Pretty big bug for Samsung to cause between previous leak and LPQ and not notice
Do we have any contacts at Samsung we can report this to? Maybe someone can contact the great CyanogenMod creator who now works at Samsung to put in a small word lol

Hi everybody!
I'm also affected by the double sms bug.
I also tried to freeze the stock messaging app with titanium, BUT, now, I can't unfreeze it... have someone the same problem? have someone a solution?
titanium tell the app have been unfreeze, but it don't. I've tried several unfreezing app, with no more success.
If there's no solution, can i flash again LPQ with Odin to resolve this mess?
Thank you!
What Rom's are we all using?
Am i right in thinking there is more than one regional variation of ICS out at the moment? Does it happen on all variations or just one?
ROM: WanamLite 9.3
Network: O2-UK
App: GOSMS

I cannot receive MMS Pics

I am not receiving mms pictures for some reason. I used to receive them when I was on the stock ROM. I installed the leaked ICS for a week or so, then I couldn't retrieve my saved ROM so I had to put on a new stock rooted rom. Now I can't receive pics. I'm using Handcent. I turned on Autoretrieve and still no luck.
I read in one of the threads here about not receiving them over wifi, but I don't know how to make it so that it won't download till I hit the button. I have wifi at both work and home so I am on it a lot. This could be the problem but I don't know how to fix it so I can have my Wifi on AND be able to get the pics.
Thanks in advance,
Jev
A) did up do a full wipe coming from the previous rom--if not, right there is the first mistake. B) did u freeze the stock messaging application, since u say u use handcent? Freezing stock messaging app for me in the past has caused me not to receive mms.

Change you APN settings to the correct one. Do a search for the correct settings and that shall be your key to victory.
You might also try clearing cache under the applications section. I had this issue with AOKP and that helped mine to send and download.

MMS frustrations!

Hi All
I have searched and read numerous forums posts regarding problems with MMS sending failing, all seem to point to APN settings being the cause. However, I find that unless i have a Samsung based ROM installed, whenever I try and send or open received MMS messages, the messaging application crashes and no matter what i've done, ROMS i've tried I get the same result! any CM based kernels cause it - CM9 has always done it, and the AOKP based roms using CM9 kernels as well.
Can anyone shed any light on this? Really want to get off the horrible clunky Samsung ROMS but use MMS a lot!
Agreed. I deleted all APNs and installed fresh settings from network providers website, no joy. I gave up and use whatsapp for pics. Never looked back. I'm paying for data so why not use some for pics. Hope you find a fix soon.

Try to reboot twice.. If that doesnt work you're going to have to find the apn settings and input them manually.
Try Slim ICS ROM it;s the complete opposite to clunky!
It's a really nice ROM with lots of features and is fast and smooth
I've been using it for about 8 weeks now and think I'll stick with it, so far no problems with anything at all, no FC no errors. And MMS works perfectly

Stop using MMS. There's much better, free alternatives, such as email.
I also am unable to send MMS using Swiss Orange Me Pre-pay sim. I am running Resurrection Rom 2.6.1 and Siyah Kernel 4.0.1. All attempts to add APN setting manually, reboot and clear cache and Dalvik cache and fix permissions have not solved the problem. I have changed from Kernel 3.5.2 to 4.0.1 and still no luck. I obtained correct APN settings from the Orange shop and the staff member commented that the Kernel may not be completely compatible with the network. Could this be the answer? Or is it something to do with the Rom build itself? Has anyone got the same problem on the same setup on a different network? I am aware that trying another Rom or Kernel or Sim card may solve the problem. I'm happy with my setup and send pics using email instead as I have unlimited data. I would like to know if this is a common problem.

Whilst I may use email etc, there are still times when MMS is useful, and for people not quite a tech savvy. It's also a basic feature of a mobile phone!
I am surprised that no seems to know the answer here - surely others experience this?
Just to confirm - I have tried multiple modems/kernels/roms, permission fixes etc, and rebooting multiple times. Even re-partitioning in ODIN! I have tried getting the settings sent from O2, requesting through SIM, and enetering manually; rebooting several times when rom is installed etc. Nothing seems to fix it except a samsung ROM?

If I get your question right, this is your problem:
'Only Samsung based Roms allow you to send mms successfully'
Try this solution:
- you will have to ensure mms settings is present under APN settings. Confirm if it's correct for your network provider.
If it's not correct, you will have to find it and enter it manually because Aosp messaging app cannot save configuration messages unlike Samsung messaging app.
- Reboot your device you manually added your mms settings (if not, skip this step).
- If messaging app still crash while sending mms, then use another messaging app, I recommend Gosms. It can allow you to manually link your mms settings.
Your problem should be solved now.
Please correct me if I missed anything
