[Q] Installing CM10 for xperia S trouble while rooting - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hey thanks for taking the time to read this,
I have been trying to install CM10 M2 on the Xperia S but have run into some rather frustrating problems, firstly i am runnnning on the
.453 firmware and i have successfully unlocked the bootloader.
In order to install the CM10 i have been forced to root my device, while doing so i have tried to use the Nozomi.img.
Unfortunately while doing this i forgot to put the kernel.sin and superuser.zip on the device now i am stuck in CWM (Clockwork recovery Mod) unable to connect the PC because when i go to mount USB i receive this error UNABLE TO OPEN UNS LUNFILE(NO SUCH FILE OR DIRECTORY) so am unable to copy files across, when i attempt to flash the kernel regardless i simply keep getting stuck at the SONY opening screen.
I was following a tutorial to do this bu tit was for a .452 deice but nowhere did it say this was a requirement i assumed it was an old post, could this be a problem?
Hopefully you will be able to answer this and pull me out of this frustration.
If you need more info please ask.
Kind regards
Cameron Biggs

Wrong section, but you don´t need root to install CM10.
Just install CM10 its preerooted.

You need to flash a stock firmware first via flashtool.

CWM - Based Recovery Xperia s - The easy way

Hi all, i recently scoured these forums searching for the most simple way to achieve recovery on the Xperia S. Of course to no avail to a newbie like myself. My device is rooted and with ICS, with an unlocked bootloader. I initially tried to achieve CWM by using the application on the market (Prior to obtaining root but with unlocked bootloader & ICS). I recently tried to achieve CWM using the CWM - Xperia on the market and success it worked! Simply click the "Reboot into recovery mode" within the application and it will install CWM into the system partition so you can use recovery! I am unsure whether this has been posted recently but i avoided posting it elsewhere due to restrictions and the like, i hope this hasn't been discovered yet and im not just being ignorant to the forum i literally could not find any news of this elsewhere!
If needs be, i will make a guide on how to achieve this including the rooting and flashing steps i took.

Here you go...
Download the attachment!
Unzip using WinRar
Connect your phone in normal mode
Go to the folder you extracted earlyer
Double click on "Install.bat"
Restart your phone
While turning on,at the Sony Boot Logo simply tap a few times the screen!
Now you should have CWM Recovery on your phone!
Simple as that
Hope helps you...
CWM 5 supports the touch screen buttons on the bottom of the phone also. its very easy to use!
Beats audio installed via this method.
On what firmware is that available? This is just a one click method after achieving root.

CWM is some kind like the Bios from your pc...except does not have the same functions
it`s a recovery, where you can backup your rom and restore if something goes wrong with your phone!
with it you can install some custom ROM`s
you can clear cache...dalvik cache....and a lot more to do!
but really the mos usefull function of it is the backup-restore and the flash of different modules rom`s and kernels!
it`s better to have cwn just in case

install Sony PC Comanion first
second check the usb debugging box from {}developer options
then just plug your phone into the usb
after that double click on install.bat
i am on unlocked bootloader
i don`t know if it works with locked bootloader
it should work
another way to install CWM is to flash a kernel wich already have CWM on it!
to do that you must install fastboot driver an connect your phone in fastboot mode to your pc(with the phone shut off pres and keep volume up key and plug into USB untill the blue led is on)
than go to the extracted folder(in the attachment) and pres and hold shift key + right click
select from menu open command window here
in the cmd window type " fastboot flash boot kernel.elf" without the comma`s
it will install the Xperia SSpedd OC @ 1,67 MHZ and you will get CWM olso on your device!
After installing that to enter CWM pres volume up when booting the phone while the blue led and light stripe is on!
this is olso for unlocked bootloader,i don`t know if it works for locked bootloader since my phone is with unlocked bootloader from the day 1!
Again simply installing this APK from the market seems to be less daunting.

Ares,
I think the op was talking about this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pvy.CWMinstaler which was the purpose of his post. The easiest way for new people to install CWM is with this apk from the market.
Correct me if I'm wrong OP.

IMPORTANT !!!!!!
ONCE ROOTED,
Download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup&hl=en and backup all your apps(on SD card)
Step 3(next step) of this post will reset(factory reset) your phone.
BACKUP ALL YOUR CONTACTS AND CALENDER ON GOOGLE
BACKUP ALL YOUR MESSAGES AND IMPORTANT STUFF !!
MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR SD CARD ON PC FOR SAFETY (THIS WILL BE DONE AFTER ALL BACKUPS ARE DONE I.E. LAST BACKUP)
Step 3: UNLOCK BOOTLOADER
If you have no idea about this, read this
Why exactly is this a big deal? For the general population, this doesn’t matter. However, for the modding community, locked bootloaders are simply a pain. When the bootloader is locked, certain portions of the device are unable to be customized such as recoveries or kernels. A lot of the time, when rooting a device, the first step requires the bootloader to be unlocked or bypassed. So, depending on the device in question and the will of the developer, creative Android hacking has allowed some devices with locked bootloaders to run custom ROMs. Generally, these devices aren’t as stable as they could be if the device was able to be completely customized from the ground up.
1) http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ and follow the steps carefully ( skip step 13, we've already done that )
IF YOU GET STUCK ON STEP 14,DO THIS
to navigate to android SDK folder, use this command(without quotes)
"cd location_of_your_android_SDK\platform-tools"
for me, it was - "C:\androidSDK\platform-tools"
2)If you followed the rules, you will have an unlocked bootloader
3)Yipeeee !!!
4)Dont worry about your apps, they're still on your SD card
5)Restore only the apps which are very important and you cant live without them for a day..
Step 4: INSTALLING CWM(CLOCK WORK MOD / RECOVERY)
if you dont know what cwm is, just read but dont follow the steps to install it
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...-and-how-to-use-it-on-android-complete-guide/
1) http://www.mediafire.com/?73xv18tht0e8zt4 download cwm
2)Connect your phone in MSC (mass storage mode) mode and wait until SD card available to PC
3)increase your display time out to 2 minutes
4)Enable USB debugging and allow 3rd party/unknown sources
5)open the downloaded folder(extract first)
6)Run install-cwm1.cmd
7)sit back and enjoy!!!
8)once finished, you'll have cwm installed!!!!
9)to check if you have cwm, turn off phone
10)turn on and when sony logo appears, repeatedly press vol down button until you reach a blue colored menu, if successful, cwm is installed properly!! if not, please comment or reinstall it.
11)navigation in cwm-
go up-vol up
go down-vol down
select option-home button
previous menu-back button
thanks siddharthsure93
Step 5: TAKING A NANDROID BACKUP
if you have no idea about this, read this
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/38468-nandroid-backup-what-is-it-and-did-i-need-it/
make sure that your sd card has at least 1gb free space and you have 50% battery charge
1)Hoping that you have cwm installed, turn off phone
2)Enter cwm by repeatedly press vol down button when sony logo appears
3)go to "backup and restore"
4)select "backup"
5)wait for 10-15 minutes till your phone is backuped
6)now you have a copy of your current phone and rom memory
we do this to restore phone if something goes wrong
NOW YOU HAVE PREPARED YOUR PHONE TO GET CM9 OR ANY FU*KIN ROM !!! :good::good:
IF I GO WRONG SOMEWHERE, PLEASE CORRECT ME WE ALL LEARN FROM OUR MISTAKES.
PLEASE PRESS THE THANKS BUTTON IF I HELPED YOU

what can I do now?
If i directly flash in JB Kernel and rom, will I be able to have root permissions? Do i even need to care about my .62 firmware if i want to go into CM10?
What should i do? Thanks!

You will need to root your phone first. Installing a custom ROM won't automatically give you root acces. In fact, I don't think you will be able to install a custom ROM without ClockWork Mod Recovery which needs root access first. Follow Sony's own rooting guide here: http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/41119?start=0&tstart=0. Then install X-Parts from the Play Store to get CWM.
Once you have CWM you can install any appropriate custom ROM you like.
Oh is that gonna be painful
Iv unlocked bootloaded with .62 firmware
So i cant get to official ics and stucked with the .62, flashing an older firmware for the root is risky? After that i have to go back to .62 again?

Use flash tool and an ftf file to update to ICS. You can go with 0.587 version for example.
After update as you are on unlocked bootloader you should flash a custom ICS kernel like suave, night elf or any other ICS compatible. This will give you root and cwm.
Look at the stickys. You will find all you need.

You can always relock the bootloader (don't know what method you used to unlock, so can't advise on how to relock - I only know how if unlocking was done through Sony). Update the firnware to stock Sony ICS using Sony's PC Companion. Then root it using Sony's rooting guide. After rooting you can unlock the bootloader again. Install X-Parts and CWM. Then try out the custom ROMs+kernels to your heart's content.

On the other hand, unlocking via official method gives you an easy option to Relock bl via flashtool!
There's a thread by Blagus on how to do that!
Btw even Relocking via setool is an option for unofficially unlocked bl users!
So there's always an option!

Yes. That's the tutorial I'm talking about. I only mentioned what I did because I've done it before. After relocking use PC Companion to update your phone. Or the Sony phone repair program. I don't remember which. If you try both (like I did) one (or both) of them will work. But still you are out of warranty. You know that, don't you?

Basically its all about DRM loss. What do I exactly lose? Only trackid? I suppose the newer versions run on unlocked bootloaders as well.

I think you are right. It's basically about losing DRM. I don't know what it is and of what use it is. All I know is I've never missed it. If you are into trying out custom ROMs then unlocking the bootloader is a must because certain custom ROMs need custom kernels. To install custom kernels you must have an unlocked bootloader.

Bootloop stuck

Hello guys,
This is my first thread and I'm not sure if this is the right place to write about my problem, but didn't find a forum that fits better. I'm stuck at bootloop after installing CM10.1 coconut on my SE LWW WT19i. I have bootloader locked and I can't unlock it. My phone is rooted with Zerg rush and have installed CWM Recovery 5. However I didn't manage to boot into recovery mode with all the button combinations. I downloaded the X-parts application and booted from there. The first time i got status error 7 and used the updater script rework method to get rid of it. Now my CM10.1 is installed, but my phone is stuck on bootloop and I have no idea what to do to unblock it.
Waiting for fast responses, because I really need help badly..

You'll need to get back into recovery and flash a working rom. Also if you can get a logcat for devs from your device forums to look at so they can help you.
Info and how to on logcats here, I've included how to grab one during bootloop.
blah blah

The problem is that I don't know the key combination to go into recovery mode on my phone.Also.. will the
warranty affect my phone, since i have rooted it?
Just ask in mini and lww thread and don't worry.its easy as pie to fix
Also you can use Sony pc companion or update service to reset your phone to factory rom

Buddy as Stated above it is generous to use Sony pc companion to get back to stock rom and then root again and flash CM.

the FW you are trying to root in not rootable by Binary method so you will first have to flash the kernel for .10 FW and then root using binary and then .54 kernel....

External card not detected
Hello there!
I have a problem with my phone. I recently unlocked my Xperia Sola MT72i bootloader. The process was successful then i was eager to flash it with a new custom ROM i found on the internet. I was able to do so, but then, there came this consequence. My 32GB microSD is not anymore recognized. Whenever i reboot the device, a message on the notification bar will always show up. It says about "sending a lot of messages" and it also features the sdcard icon and then few minutes after boot up, a notification box will pop up on the screen that says, "Sorry, memory has stopped". I have a lot of data saved on the sdcard but it can only be accessed using a file manager installed, which is, on my phone, its Astro. MP3's, Videos, and Pictures wont show up on stock media applications. I have to access Astro file manager in order to see the data. And also on the Storage Menu, im can only see the phone memory and internal memory details. I hope i could get a solution for this. If there's a need to re-flash a new ROM, i'd be happy to do so.

The rooting methods don't require you to unlock bootloader so just use the method as mentioned above....
As for the Rom I am right now on JB port by munjeni and am totally satisfied by it.... It's better than ICS...

Roms based on stock won't require unlocked bootloader.......
But others do..... i.e those based on CM.......
problem in binary
sir when I star the runme.bat after typing 1 it says system path is not specified I think it is due to backup and restore app because it only has 5 backups

just try to connect your memory card using card reader to your pc....
if detected then backup all your data and just format the memory card....
then put it in your phone...
if its not working then just flash stock firmware...
and go for any custom rom.....
Thank u soo much!

Unable to install gapps through recovery

I've been trying for the last 3 hours to unlock the bootloader on my Xperia Tablet Z (SGP 311).
The issue I appear to be having is the driver. I get the Windows sound of a unregonised device.
I've followed the Sony guide and also tried with FlashTool, but it tells me I need to install the drivers they provide, which I've done but still unable to to unlock the bootloader.
Can anyone help, as this is driving me mad

OK, I think I've managed to unlock the bootloader, as I finally got the drivers to work.
Now, how to install 'pollux-windy', as when I boot into 'fastboot', I don't see anything on the screen of my tablet? I've put the image on the tablet and extracted the 'boot' image, but I don't know how to access it to run?

When trying to install from cmd prompt, I get "error: cannot load 'boot.img': No error"
Can anyone assist?
Thanks in advance.
Can anyone assist a man in need?
Something has happened, as when I now reboot the device, all I get is 'Free Xperia' and the blue man?
Any ideas?
Great news, I've got it working, finally and such a relief.
However, I've added gapps.zip to the device, but when going into the recovery, I'm unable to see that zip to install it. When I look on the device using file manage, it's there?
Any ideas why I can see it on the device and I know it's there, but I can't install it from the recovery?
Can anyone assist, as I don't even have the 'Play' store...
Thanks in advance.
was the gapps on the internal of your memeory, what recovery are u using? if u r using cm10.1 it has cwm as the recovery nd it should mount every locate accurately. my suggestion nd what i do is inhave a micro-sd in my tablet. if u have a micro-sd i would put the file on the card nd when in recovery go to the external. but it sounds like to me that u need go back in folders to root of the system. and got to data/media nd that should show files that u might have transfered from any 4.1.2 rom

Issue resolved, thanks for the pointer skiwong20.
Basically, it was in a folder called '0' that must've been created at some point and not the root level of the SD card. But all now working and thanks for the pointer!
Thanks.

I did see your original reply before deletion and granted, I hadn't taken it fully onboard and made a schoolboy mistake to not spot the folder structure. However, was glad the forums were here to offer support and help and that's what I believe it's all about, a support forum...
