i search for a way, to make a complete backup. Because i will test some other roms.
complete backup mean somthing like the ftf files for Flashtool. a backup from kernel, rom and personal data's in one way with one file or folder that i can restore later.
i think, that this not is possible with Smartphone on, so it must be a way with pc and Smartphone in Flash- or Fastboot mode?
please help!?!

Just make a nandroid backup from your custom recovery .
The problem is, that custom recovery need a installed kernel and there are no way to change the complete software, only the Rom and my data, not the kernel

Could you be any clearer? Kernels are flashable via recovery.
My actual Rom is very stable and smooth with a stockromkernel so I don't want to install the Rom, root it and install cwm to restore my system every time.

Well it depends in what rom you are going to flash some rom supports amonra and some cwm. Both are good.

Thanks for that link. I was able to use it to easily switch between AmonRa and ClockworkMod. It didn't work going from AmonRa 2.2.1 -> ClockworkMod 3.1.0.0, but I was able to go to 3.0.2.4, and back and forth from there. It is a lot easier to try different recoveries this way!

For this you will have to switch to amonra again. And you can restore your back up.
Other way is to first switch to cwm on your desired rom. Then take a nandroid backup via cwm. Then for restoring you will not have to go to amonra.

Does anyone know what the difference between CWM 3.0.2.4 and 3.1.0.0 is? I made a bunch of backups on 3.1.0.0, but it is easier to switch between 3.0.2.4 and AmonRa then it is to do the same for 3.1.0.0, so I was thinking of using those 2 (when I need to use 1 vs the other), but I wanted to be sure my backup will still work with the older CWM

So you are saying, when we plan to switch frm amonra to cwn, first we have to flash cwm3.0.2.4 then flash cwm3.1.0.0 to work smoothly.

To be more specific, I'm saying that with the zips provided in the link, I got an error when trying to flash CWM 3.1.0.0 when running AmonRa 2.2.1. I was able to successfully reflash the 3.1.0.0 zip from a running CWM env, and was able to flash the 3.0.2.4 zip from AmonRa. So at least on my P509, I can't go directly from AmonRa->CWM 3.1.0.0 (vice versa works fine).
But yes, you can do:
AmonRa 2.2.1->CWM 3.0.2.4->CWM 3.1.0.0 using the zips provided
There is probably little reason for most to use both; play with them and choose one. For some of the stuff I'm working on, there are features of each I need though, so I've been going back and forth.
I flashed cwm 3.1 over amonra 2.2.1 without any problem.

Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
You can use something like MyBackup pro to backup your apps & stuff, but you won't get an 'image' of your setup like you will with a Nandroid backup done in CWRecovery. Or you could probably use Kies I guess (not sure about how this works though, have never used Kies for anything).
Best way to go would be to install CWM then do your backup before you go making any other changes to your phone (like flashing a custom rom). This will give you a backup of your setup as close as possible to it's original state (tho obviously rooted).
If you want to go back completely to stock (no root), all you'd need to do would be to download your original firmware from somewhere like Sammobile.com (until Intra gets his stock firmware collection up and running again) and flash that in Odin. Or you could get the latest stock firmware available for your phone/carrier/country with Checkfus (PC app, search for it on here/Google) flash the tarball you download in Odin.

Don't think CWM backs up your stock recovery just everything else, to revert back to stock recovery you would just have to flash stock firmware but lose root in the process.

Just as addition to MisthaBungle:
1. Flash a kernel containing CWM recovery (such as CF-Root).
2. Create a Nandroid backup in recovery mode (or use CWM Manager app if available).
If you want or have to restore your stock system, you can restore this Nandroid backup, but you will have to flash the stock kernel afterwards in order to replace the insecure/custom kernel containing the CWM recovery.
Alternatively you can do it like bubba949 described:
Just download and flash the latest officially released stock ROM to your phone, if you want or have to go back to stock.
I recommend to do a Nandroid backup before flashing a new kernel/ROM, just to be sure that you are able to go a step back in case something does not work.
So you will have an additional option ;-)
Thanks all of you for your assistance. I'm doing well with my phone since root.

Hello,
I'm kind of a newbie at rooting phones. I've upgraded my xperia u to ICS before rooting.
I've unlocked bootloader, rooted the phone successfully & i've also flashed CWM recovery v5.5xx.
I have done a factory reset recently when my mobile was eating up a lot of ram. Does it remove or corrupt CWM? cos i'm unable to access recovery while booting the phone, i'm only getting access into recovery is by flashtool & even then, when i press "install zip from sdcard", it says mounting error & is unable to access the sd card.
What have I done wrong? Am I missing any step towards flashing a kernel or a custom rom?
please help
(I only want to speed up mobile operations, especially camera.)

I found a bat file & installed cwm recovery & its working perfectly. Thank you.
Now, all i need is a custom rom or a speedy kernel to speed up my daily operations (at least other than camera)
Please suggest me a custom rom, I've searched few of them & liked miui but someone commented that whatsapp doesn't work in that custom rom, that app is quite imp for me, so please suggest a rom which is faster than the stock rom & every essential app works.
Thanks in advance
Cheers!

ok, so if i installed miui rom or any other rom & decided that i didn't like it. To come back to stock, do I just have to go to cwm & press restore/advanced restore or do i have to do the same procedure like download the stock rom, put it into sdcard & via cwm install it?
P.S. I've already made a nandroid backup, also from titanium backup & all my data is on my sdcard

hi,

i have read many tutorials some of them with weird hidden manus that dint match mine #*7284# and actually im getting kind of lost...
can anyone please help me find a guide with an updated on how backup my EFS/IMEI before im trying to mess with my phone?
thanks in advance,

It's just a folder in the root of the device. You can copy it manually using any file manager with root access. Some recoveries such as philz, have an option to backup. There are efs backup apps on play.....

Yes, but if you want to stay stock no need to back up efs there is slim to nothing chances you will lose imei
Hi, if you want backup /efs folder, don't do a copy folder with root explorer.
Use this app play.google com /store/apps/details?id=net.hellcat.droiddev.ktool

Well if you want to flash custom ROMs you are going to need Root anyway except if you just want to update your current Samsung Firmware. In this case you can just flash via Odin of course without Rooting your device.
Maybe you can backup the EFS Folder via ADB but I never tried that so just pulling it from the system folder via a root explorer is easier, at least for me.

and it seems that that guy above you mentioned that copying isn't enough...

The guy above said that a manual restoring of EFS isn't possible when the phone won't boot into the ROM, well that`s correct but the point of a EFS backup is to restore it when you have a working ROM but without a EFS Folder (happened for some reason more than once here at XDA).
Yes if you have Root, backup your EFS Folder, then you can flash a CWM Recovery through Odin and then after wiping data/cache you can flash a new custom ROM.
first of all thanks for all the help. now at least i can start
so ill just look for goot root tutorial
more of a opinion questions:
so you recommend on using Odin to get CWM? or RomManager ( i heard it can do it)
do you have any rom you can reommend on? or another restore program other then clockwork?

Well it shouldn't really matter but one time I tried to flash CWM through ROM Manager and it failed for some reason leaving me with a bootloop. I don't now what went wrong there but since then I either use Odin to flash CWM or the last time I did it by flashing the Siyah Kernel. It gives you Root and you can flash the CWM Siyah Touch Recovery straight from the S-Tweaks App but it`s really your decision.
About the ROM, there are ROMs that are based on Samsung`s TouchWiz Firmware and ROMs that are based on AOSP / CyanogenMod. There is no such thing as a best ROM, so you are going to have to figure this out yourself since it depends on your personal taste. I use Temasek`s build of CyanogenMod with his Kernel and it gives me the right amount of customization and can be used as a daily driver.

1. Every Rom has a kernel built-in needed to work, so you need install after flashing a new rom.
2. I don't know for sure, but generally backups group all things. In TWRP you can choose what you will store in a backup, don't know about CWM.

to install rom just wipe data or factory reset the device and then install the rom (for updates just flash the rom no need to wipe)
in case if you want to install a kernel install it after installing the rom not before installing
if you are using CWM you can backup data, cache, system, boot in case you want to restore just restore the backup no need to do anything else
hope so ive explained clearly
Yes, now it's clear for me, thanks
