Hi developers
Just wondering which developers are currently working on hacking the bootloader to get android 2.1/2.2 on the X10? Also, wondering how the progress is going? I started this thread to keep ppl updated and aware of progress being made, not as a nag.
Any info would be much appreciated for all interested.

that my friend is for devs only.
i think that the man wanted to open a thread for the other people who do not know what all that CODE means, just like me and many other around here.
So it would be great if someone could tell the rest of US about the progress made in cracking the bootloader, if they have time of course.

That thread's not good enough? An update has been posted there by one of the devs working to crack the bootloader.
yes that is a good thread,i am reading it every day to see the news .
but for a few days now there is none
So should we be worried?

I'm not one of the developers but I know what they are doing code wise. The process is basically 'tinker with things until finding the one that allows it to work'. There is no 10%, 15%, 20% levels to report to us folks here. It goes from 0% to 95% (works but not perfected for us non-coders) to 100% when they release a walkthrough or guide for us.
So until they hit the part where it works for them, there is nothing to report. All they can say is that they've tried a lot of things(which we wouldn't understand anyhow) and they haven't found one to work yet, so just wait patiently until they come out and say it's been done, just like when we were waiting on root.
so the x10 is locked just like the milestone? =/ why doesnt sony ericsson get bad press then?
Why you ask? It is simple!
The X10 user base is quite small! Most people don't care for the X10 at all! It is inferior to any other device in the its price group! You will say that it has an 8MP Camera! Yes but the quality is worse than the 5MP Camera of HTC HD2! I have them both! Most other devices in this price range are Android 2.1 (all of them soon going to 2.2) and the X10 is still 1.6 with a supposed update to 2.1 "soon"! RAM! Most other devices in this price range have atleast 512MB RAM!
Lets face it! This is a big failure for SE! Surely not the last one!
I myself will be getting something once I sell my X10

Yes you've got quite a bargain! But was this with a contract?
My Bulgarian friend you are wrong. The X10 takes better photos than the hd2 my friend has one and we did tests a while ago, you probably dont know how to use the camera. As the device itself is one of the best in its price range. Here in Canada it sells for $550+ tax. Tell me what other phone offers you a 4" inch display, 1ghz snapdragon, 8.1mp camera and soon 720p video rec and also such a beautiful design for that money. X10 is probably the best looking phone on the market. As for ram we still dont know how much it has for sure but ram is definately enough for this phone, i dont think you will notice any diference with a phone that has more ram like the nexus one for example. I think the X10 is a beast so please tell me what phone is better for example so that i can proove you wrong.

i got mine for 279 pounds when the desire was selling for 350 pounds.
Why is everyone comparing to the desire? The desire has smaller screen worse camera and is butt ugly imo. The only thing going for it is the more ram wich doesnt matter really and 2.1 oh and the faulty dualtouch like the nexus

SOON is the word here! I'll never do the mistake to buy something will "soon" be made better! Even the HD2 with a ported Android 2.1/2.2 is faster than the crappy SE software! And HD2 Makes better pictures! The test were made by a photographer and the pics were carefully studied! (only because we had non agreement on which is the better camera)! BTW The flash of the X10 is pathetic!

Actually I can get brand new unlocked X10's for $450 here, nothing I can find comes close to that in cost. I actually only paid $300 for mine, it was 1 week old with less than an hour of talk time. Very happy with mine the way it is right now. And it's just going to get better.

First, ask this question in desire forums ;-)
Second: one thing better in x10 is slightly bigger screen. In practice this means about two lines of book in aldiko. Width and number of pixels are the same.
I have both phones now, first bought x10, then desire...currently looking at one rom per day thanks to easy rom backup. (now: defrost)

Why sell a 7 month old phone just to buy an 8 month old phone?
Try the Desire HD or Desire Z if you want a newer phone.

Camera: complementary and not fundamental to the workings of a smart phone.
Dispaly: 3.8 inch amoled with multitouch better than 4 inch TFT single touch
Rom: I think RAM is more important to the user and the dseire has 512mb compared to the x10 384mb
Battery Lifeurely subjective
Let's not forget that you get froyo and all its goodness on the desire while the x10, save for the devs cracking the bootloader, is destined to die with 2.1. Also HTC sense much better and more functional than the dreary UXP.
I don't think you'll find any review on any of the tech blogs that actually put the x10 ahead of the desire. The desire wins there unanimously.
Having said all that, I think like others who have said, you should wait until q1 next year when newer phones get released and then make your choice. Unless you want to at least get something reasonable back for your x10 before it becomes valueless.
I think that the crux of this question lies in the users needs...
For example.. tell us your top 3 uses of your phone.. (texting, watching video, browsing, streaming video from websites, listening to music, camera..... etc.etc)...
That way you'll get some feedback on the elements that really matter to you rather than having everyone commenting on the elements that matter to them..
For me.. I wouldn't have a Desire.. simply because it's ugly.. but that's just my opinion on a feature of the phone which is important to me.

The Desire loses because it's an old phone. The X10 loses as well.
Why would anyone buy an old phone when the newer version is already on the market?!
Not to mention, the X10's screen absolutely blows the Desire's AMOLED out of the water. There's a reason they changed it to SLCD.
Ive got both these phones at the moment and i have to say, as much as i love the x10 there isnt a hope in hell of me ever using it again. Sense is a better ui, im finding the battery life to be better, has froyo and custom roms, it might just be me but the screen seems more vibrant, i can actually hear the other person, my signal at home now stays on 3g permenantly where it used to drop to 2.5g the majority of the time, the software is a lot smoother and more responsive, the custom htc software like the music app is much better than sonys attempts and it has multitouch. The only thing i miss is the camera and app from the x10 but seeing as i take about 10 photos a year on my phone i think i can live with that.
All of this is just my opinion of course and if you disagree then thats your right but my x10 is being sold pretty soon and ill never be buying se again. The only reason i didnt get a desire hd or z is because for the cost it doesnt seem worth it really, i could get 2 desires for the same price as 1 hd or z.

Hey,
I've been using my Xperia Acro S for about 10 days now, i've used the Galaxy S 3, S2, HTC One X and Defy before this.
The first thing i did when i got the Xperia Acro S was put it in a tub filled with about 50CM of water, left it there for about a minute, when i took it out everything worked fine, just be sure to close all the connection ports before you try this.
The phone's performance is pretty much on par with the Galaxy S 2, i haven't noticed any lag in using the device, sometimes it becomes laggy but that's because i have many apps open in the background so i assume that's normal.
I've played The Dark Knight Rises and it was completely lag free, the graphics were great.
I've also played Dead Trigger without any issues, great graphics as well.
When i compare it directly with the Motorola Defy it's quite a big step up,
The performance improvement is noticable.
Another useful feature is wet-finger tracking which allows you to use the screen with wet fingers, i remember this being a problem with my Defy.
The battery life for me is ok. I usually manage to get about 3 hours screen on time, this is with 5 active e-mails push syncing, using 3-4 apps like WhatsApp, Bluetooth on all day (connected for half the day). Wi-Fi on all the time, brightness set to max.
The camera is very satisfactory for me, it has nice features like panorama, smile detection etc and the quality is better than the 8MP camera's from the other high-end phones.
The only thing that slightly bothered me was that the phone's NFC doesn't seem to be on par with other higher end devices,
Basically i have to press the NFC card on the back of the phone and sometimes it doesn't even recognize it.
Whereas on the HTC One X and Galaxy S 3 it's sufficient to just put the NFC card a couple of CM's away from the phone and it recognizes always.
As i said, not a big problem, just saying.
All in all, i am very satisfied.
Hope this helped.

Thank you both of you... Guess I've made my choice Just waiting for Sony to launch this baby in India!
The back of the phone heats up very fast.
And battery not that satisfied, 1.5GHz is too much for the phone.
I underclocked to 1GHz and games still run lag-free, (riptide 3D,Cordy,Cordy sky)
And when your screen is awake, and u pour water on it, the phone interface will messed up. (Water somehow acts as fingers and some dragging and long press occurs)
And u can't really dip the phone into water with screen awake, like above the screen will go crazy and no response at all.
If u awake the phone in water, u can't touch anything, but if u can turn on the camera, u can use the shutter button to take pictures. (provided ur screen doesn't messed up)
So its water resistant doesnt mean u can use ur phone underwater

Comparing to the Defy, it's obviously a worthy upgrade. In term of battery life, it's okayish for a dual core phone. I have been playing 3D game like dead trigger with zero lag problem so I will vouch for that. Camera is superb if you know how to use it right. Sony camera is a bit different, the auto focus was kinda clumsy and you have to do it manually to get the best quality. Water proof is definely a plus. This phone can last for years before your next upgrade.

I don't think wifi-direct is supported on acro s ics version yet, at least I cannot find the options as shown on the other xperias which do support it. DLNA support only so far...

Yes, that specs on GsmArena brought my hopes up, but now I am more inclined to think specs listed it as an error. The specs listed inside the GsmArena review page1 do not say wifi-direct.
Xperia P has wifi-direct but is not snapdragon S3. I wonder if any S3 based phone currently has wifi-direct?
Sent from my LT26w using Tapatalk 2
I guess we have to ask HTC folks for that.
But i had google it. And the page i landed too. Stated it would not.

My HTC Sensation has the same CPU as ACRO S and HTC support Wi-Fi Direct
Seems like wifi-direct support depends on the wireless communication chipset used, might have nothing to do with S3 or not. Could not find any high res photos or mention what chip is in 2012 xperias though...

i too currently own a motorola defy as the op, and i plan to upgrade in 1-2 months, and my definite win was acro s - until now.
im not the type to stick to stock roms, im a dedicated cyanogenmod user, and i really want a phone which runs cm10 without problem, but now i read that until sony releases a jb upgrade for the acro s, cm10 wont have camera and the battery drains a lot. although from what i understand cm9 is running quite decently, so i think i can stick with that. but will this always be like this, that the acro s wont be upgradeable until sony released an official build?
and i have another question:
the xperia s and xperia acro s have almost identical hardware, except the battery and the microsd extension.
and the xperia s has aosp support, and sony already released its binaries. why cant we use its binaries to fix the camera and the battery drain? or am i seriously missing something here? what are the differences between the two devices software-wise?
and i also read that cm10 is not really ready for daily use yet. is that because the high battery consumption and lack of camera, or are there other bugs?
sorry for asking this many questions, but i couldnt find any answers to this anywhere, even though i did search them first.
Quarx is missing
I might consider Xperia V
I can say that Acro S with the stock rom with all the bloatware removed is a decent device, very stable .
I personally have no issues with it. I tried all the other "stable" roms out there (MIUI and CM9.1) and I always came back to stock .
Xperia T has MHL (HDMI) and Camera working as of FXP 142 when it's released
Unreal fast phone
Go Sony, you won't regret it!

Hi all, I may buy the Xperia sola soon because it's very cheap bnib, 180€.
There are a few things I'd like to know before buying it, though..
1) Build quality
2) Out-of-the-box issues (had problems with the HTC One X.. ugh)
3) Screen quality
4) Camera quality (some examples would be nice)
5) Performance
6) Rootability
7) Add your own comment about the phone usage in everyday life (signal etc.)

I have purchased this mobile 3 months ago and am quite satisfied with this..........
The over all build quality is great..... No problem yet with my piece........
Screen quality is also good enough for video playback and games, 720p videos plays very smooth........... One problem is that even if you turn off floating touch in settings you would even get some float touch response in games like temple run and xtreme trail....
Camera quality is also great with flash........
Overall performance is also good.....
In my opinion sound is bit low when on speakers..........
Easily rootable and bootloader can be unlocked easily using official method........
It gives me continuous video play back of around 4 hours approx..........
Many custom roms available..........

I guess you should buy an Xperia U.
I have had this phone for 2 months now and I am much more than satisfied.
The build quality is good enough for a bit of rough use and it has a good grip too. For custom roms, Xda is flowing. There is a rom which is only 76 mb and is running ICS.
Performance is spectacular because of the dual core processor. There is even a rom which over clocks this beast to 1.15 Ghz. Screen quality is good as it has high ppi. Camera quality is good, but I am disappointed by the fact that it collects a lot of noise at night. But I am still on GB. Who knows what surprises await for me in ICS? How is that for personal experience? Did I jump off the page? Did I dazzle you?
You decide. I suggest the Xperia U. Read around the forums, search Google, its an endless world. I did my part. Now, its up to you to decide. It was very long... Sorry to bore you (if you are). The keyboard is soo good that I can't stop myself. I suggest you buy the Xperia P if you are willing to spend more...

Echoing all the naysayers. Don't get it. Horrible builds. Needs to be constantly reset in order to free up the ram. Issues with touch screens on charging.
etc etc etc.
Maybe I should just upgrade mine to CM9. It seems to be faster.
But stock rom, and those roms based on stock... Horrible. Just Horrible. Not the developers fault, but more of Sony for the poor build.
Just don't go for it there will be no jellybean

Sucks man.. Don't buy sola coz its ram is too damn low... And that might be the reason for no JB. Get something with atleast 1 gig ram on it... Sgs2 for example... It has stable CM 9,10 builds., good hardware and great for development

got the phone 3 days ago. disappointed by sony
Well, I have the One X as my main phone, plenty of power there, sola is a CHEAP phone (512 mb RAM is ok, I have the SGS1 and it runs JB just fine), I want to have it on the side as my 3rd phone to play around with and dev for a bit maybe.
So much negative comments..

Its hard to hear that sola supports end with ICS, coz Official roms makes you feel more stable,, but come on guys, we always try and stick with modified one, so if you want a phone for infinite updates, go and buy an expensive phone with more futures and support, otherwise, howcome you buy sola in first place?
The sola is more than okay compared to its price.

The problem with this phone is that it can't even do it's job as a phone properly =\
Check the general section. Lots of us have problems when calls arrive: It takes 10 seconds to switch to the caller screen to accept the call.
I've had some expectations for this phone. It's not a top tier phone, but this is quite disappointing. Looking to trade this in once my contract allows me to do so.
You can check out the general section of the forums. Lots of flame wars there regarding this phone (And Sony's phones in general). Yes, some people will love it to bits, no matter what, but I just can't when my previous phone with a quarter of the processing power was smoother and faster.
Morning all,
I was wondering if anybody can help.
I'm looking to purchase a HTC Desire X or maybe even a One X. More likely the Desire as that is more within my budget. I've read good reviews about both phones, android capability is what I'm looking for and they look good. The only thing which is putting me off the Desire is the 4 GB of memory. I understand you can store extra data on an external card which the phone has a slot provided. However, I was wondering whether this is a hindrance at all. For example, moving stuff to memory card, is it easy etc
Phone use will be mainly for Camera, some internet browsing, e-mail, GPS & hopefully google nav if I can get/or download onto the phone.
Many thanks in advance.
Pedro
For your use ..desire x is good..moving data is easy n you will have good full sense Rom with file manager n more access by ckpv5 and others...you will get good battery too..but I would really suggest you to get a s3...as gaming and screen quality is what attracts more after getting an android...I got an s3..+ it has lot more memory and functions you may like...+ GPS is better and also 3g n WiFi speeds..as I tested by myself..so you can start saving money ..
Hi Hulk.
Thanks for the advice and information. It is very much appreciated. Your not the first to mention the S3 to me so will be looking at those as well now.

Pedro. HTC Desire X is a nice performer for its price tag. But it has, in my opinion, 2 main disadvantages: bad quality pictures (compared to competition) and lack of front camera (for video chat or auto-portrait pics).
In the same price range and size, a SGSIII mini is a good choice nowadays (under 300 euros).
HTC One X and SGSIII are bigger and more powerfull phones with great specs (over 400 euros).

Where did you get that dx has bad camera pictures? Go and try xperia sola, xperia u, j etc. This quality is one of best in the price range. If you want insanely great photos, buy a hd camera and not a phone...

Hi Pedro,
I went with the Desire X for budget reasons as it was on offer during the New Year's sales and I like HTC's designs. I thought I'd get a fairly basic phone with many limitations. I couldn't have been more wrong. The phone is very good considering the price. Sure it doesn't have a powerful processor or super duper specs, but I found it to be surprisingly adept at handling anything I throw at it. It might not be able to play some of the higher end games (there's a thread in the forums detailing people's success with those), but it's more than adequate for all-purpose smartphone use including the sort of things you mention.
ROM development for the phone is still in its infancy, but there are already some great ROMs to choose from. And moving things to the SD card is trivial. You can also get a utility app like App2SD to inform you whenever you install an app to move it to the SD. Android's 'Move to Storage' feature makes it super easy.

Sorry. But my older Samsung Galaxy S (released in 2010) take better pictures, specially video recording.
I don´t know about Xperia Sola, U, etc... but I was expecting much better pictures than a 3 year old smartphone (SGS).
However, I´m still happy with the Desire X cause is fast, nice looking and very handy with a 4 inch screen.
HTC desire x has da best 5mp camera so far...I have shot most insane piks...burst mode..is damn awesome...one thing everybody forgets to mention is da sound quality....the beats audio which u won't even get in Samsung s3...sound matches..well it outruns actually to dat of apple...desire x won't let u down u can definitely go for it

Well if I do so ..will HTC kill me or you ...huh ..I don't care..btw my friend I didnt lol at desire x..its one of best in midrange
I sometimes hate this type of question no offense.
I assumed you have the budget? So if you have the budget to buy one x, then duhhhhh go for it. its obviously has better specs. There's no point to check on a midrange smartphones like desire x over high end devices if you have $$$. When in the end you will say "I'm regret buying this midrange device I should have gone for one x ohemg I'm stupid blablabla."
Add: to answer your questions, trust me 4gb of internal memory are more than enough to store apps and games (1gb to be precise for free use). I have 40 games and over 20 daily apps and I still got 340.18mb of internal storage and I haven't move a single of apps and games yet to my sdcard not even once.
If you're that worried you gonna run out of space which I doubt on desire x. Check out link2sd. Seriously guys check it out. It's somewhere here on xda and google play.
Oh btw, as much as I love HTC now I suggest you go for the S3 instead of one x. One x has A LOT of battery complains than S3.

I'm very happy with my Desire X, especially with a custom ROM installed. Plenty of memory left, no problems for me at all. Also the size and thickness of the phone is imo perfect.
I don't use a front camera, so I won't miss one.
For me it's well worth the money.
Hello everybody.
Didn't realise a full scale debate would erupt after my initial post! However, I am on a technology forum
To answer a few questions, I am on a budget and the S3 did look good coupled with the reviews but I've purchased a Desire X today for £153 inc P & P which I think is a steal. I'll be in touch with my findings once I receive the phone.
I appreciate everyone's comments and views especially vogonpoetlaureate. I won't be using the phone for games. (I just don't play them at all). So in theory, I shouldn't have any issues.
Would I be able to use google nav as sat nav in my car? (Should I be able to download of course.) Apologies if someone has already answered that If I can, is there an accessory to mount it?

I believe you can use google nav in your car. There are a lot of accesories to mount your device, but most of them are universal.
I don't know if there's an official mount yet, but the others will work fine.

For that price, HTC Desire X is the best smartphone you can buy!
Another minor flaw it has... no compass. If you are using a nav app, when you stand still, it may get a little bit lost cause it does not know in which direction you are heading, until you start moving.
So, in my opinion, the 3 cons it has: lack for front camera, lack of compass, bad speakerphone (BTW, I don´t like Beats Audio) are really minor for a great looking, nice screen, fast and handy smartphone. That´s why I bought it.
