[Q] SGS2 after firmware update phone got "locked" - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
Please excuse my English and my knowledge about all this subject is so limited.
Today I connected my phone to Kies and was offered firmware update automatically. So i went for it (believe that it will be only for good) and the phone is now in some sort of freeze mode. It only starts up to "S Samsung galaxy S II" screen and that's it. Completely non responsive. If i try to turn it off it restart itself to that point again.
Unfortunately i can not provide any details of my phone as i cant get access to it right now. i remember that it was on gingerbread and firmware update was offering icecreamsandwich. its Galaxy S2 i9100
i don't know if its related but I'll mention it. This morning i followed instruction (i found on this forum) how to root my phone. Although i am not sure, everything went smooth and according to explanation. If was working fine until this firmware upgrade. Once again i don't know if this contributed to fail or not. Kernel i needed for my model was GT-I9100_BVKE2.
I would appreciate any help how to go back to square one (if possible) and make it work.
Thank You

OK so if you updated it to 4.0.3 and Not 4.0.4, then enter stock recovery (power, volume down, home button) and do a factory reset. Then reboot.
Edit: I mean volume up button

Thank you for your reply - how do i perform factory reset? From phone? I got to "android Downloading" screen (power, volume down, home button) and what then? Do I need to use Kies ...?
Thx

Recovery is Vol up+home+power. You move through options with volume keys and select with power or home button.

I got it from youtube.
NOPE - it wont allow me to go factory reset menu. Only goes back to "S samsung galaxy sII screen".
Does this mean what i think it means?

If youve lost stock recovery then all you can do is go to download mode and flash a 4.0.3 .tar file you download for your region from sammobile.
Then you can root the phone.

Thank you everyone for your inputs.
I went to local store and sort it out for £10. I wish i had more time to play with it but to be honest with you i lost my nerves at some point.
Thanks to all for your help!! :good:

Well you just wasted £10. You could have fixed it yourself in minutes if you had bothered to read in first place. There is plenty of guides and help here and its just a forum or search button click away.

Rooted i9300 no screen problem

Hi all,
Have a really bad problem, just rooted a galaxy s 3 for a friend, i've rooted many, he was on 4.1.1 i used the toolkit as i've used it before.
The root process worked well and now the phone boots up, makes a sound and then doesn't show anything on the screen.
Now nothing comes on the screen at all although it does make a boot sound (the samsung logo noise) the only thing i get on the screen is the galaxy s III logo and a small red exclamation mark up the top left.
Really would like to get this back on.
My friend bought it from singapore, although it is a i9300.
I can get to recovery and i can also get to download mode.
Any ideas?
If it is a I9300 then factory reset from recovery or flash a stock rom .

Actually sorted this now, I used the older toolkit and it caused this issue. Wiping it wouldn't have helped.
Used the new toolkit and all is well again.

I'm suffering the exact same problem (likely for the same reason - used older version, although possibly just because I messed up on my own).
@dladz, or anyone else who might be able to help, could you please give me a pointer on where to go after downloading the newer toolkit. I have a vague idea but I imagine it would be better to ask at this stage before I really mess it up myself.
If anyone could help you'd be a life saver
---------------------
Edit: After prodding around and "fixing" it I thought I'd leave this information for other noobs so they don't ask the same question/harass dladz like myself.
Simply boot up holding the vol down and home button, connect via USB and open Odin.
From there make sure that only Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked.
Click PDA and select C:\Samsung Galaxy S3 ToolKit\root\GT-I9300\boot-stock-ella-GTI9300.tar (From the toolkit - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488)
Hit start and wait for the square on the top left to turn green and say pass. The device should reboot and be work again. As I'm a retard you may decide not to follow these instructions for your own safety and the safety of your device, however it worked for me.
Apologies for being a pain in the arse, I'll go back to lurking quietly and I'll try not to break anything else.

[Q] How to Fix Samsung Galaxy S2 (Korean) getting into recovery mode on restart

Hey,
I have a Samsung S2 (Korean Version) which was working fine. Since, it is being used by my younger brother for games etc. He informed me one day that the phone is not getting started. I checked the phone, switched it on and as it displayed Samsung SII logo and jumped straight away to recovery mode.
Resultantly, i installed AOKP rom using CWM recovery. The phone started and was working fine until restarted. On restart the phone again goes to recovery mode instead of loading the Rom.
Can anyone help me in fixing this ??
I refuse to help lazy people who insist on using such silly/generic topic titles like "Help Please" instead of using common sense and putting something relevant.
If you expect people to enter/read your topic and help instead of skipping or entering to leave remarks like mine I would recommend changing title to something useful for forum browsers.

did your rom could get into the operator interface after get in the CWM mode? if not ,try to install a new rom and back up your data, then wipe data cache and reinstall again. maybe your brother deleted some system files which make the system run regularly. therefore the phone jump to CWM when restart.

Dont worry, its not a big problem.
Press & hold POWER BUTTON + MENU BUTTON + VOLUME UP BUTTON for 5-10 seconds, then you will see something written in Korean language. Just ignore that and press VOLUME UP BUTTON. Then u will enter the boot menu. Use VOLUME KEYS to move up and down. and to SELECT something click on POWER BUTTON.
DO A BACKUP FIRST AND THE RESET UR PHONE.

My Samsung Galaxy SII will not boot up

My Samsung Galaxy SII will not go past the book screen. I get the initial boot screen, and then go onto the O2 (network provider) screen, and then get to the S shape that changes color, but no further. It just sits there changing color for as long as I let it. It was on Jelly Bean, and to try to fix this I have installed Siyah-s2-V6.0b4 and 5 using Odin3. All to no avail. Everything I do leads me back to this place. Any advice would be much appreciated.
It may be a coincidence, but the phone automatically boots up whenever I reset it by holding the on/off button for an extended period of time, and after putting the batter in.
Thanks .... Graham
If you're running anything other than 4.0.4, boot into recovery & do a wipe/factory reset. Don't do a wipe if you're running a 4.0.4 rom whatever you do, you'll brick your phone.
If you've got no recovery/that doesn't work, go back to stock via Odin which will give you a clean state & you can start over.
Thanks for that. I apologize if this is a stupid question, but how do I boot into recover mode? The only thing I can get it to do other then its normal boot (which gets stuck before I get into android proper) is to hit the power on/off key with the volume down button held. If I then hit the volume up button it takes me into download mode, which I used to update the ROM. Is there something else I should be doing?
Recovery is - switch phone off; hold home & volume up (& keep holding), then press power until you get into recovery. If you're not running 4.0.4, do a wipe, if you are running 4.0.4 you'll brick your phone, so don't.
If you still can't get into recovery - Boot into download mode (home/vol down/power), get a stock rom from Samfirmware/similar, flash it with Odin = clean slate you can do whatever you were wanting to do from.
Go it.. Thank you so much. I managed to get there.
When you say "if I am running 4.0.4", does that mean Ice-Cream Sandwich? The ROM I installed earlier today claims to be 4.1.2 XWLSS, which is Jellybean. So is that ok?
Thanks ... Graham
4.1.2 is not 4.0.4 so yeah, you're good.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Yep, 4.0.4 is an ICS version (other ICS versions are OK tho), but 4.1.2 is all good, so you can go ahead & wipe if you can get into recovery. If it doesn't work, go with installing a stock rom via Odin as mentioned in my PP's.
Yahhhh. Thank you so much. I've got my phone back!
Really appreciate your help, and I've learned so much!
Thanks ... Graham
You be good Graham.

Good man. Glad it was an educational experience, fixing something like that yourself should give you the confidence to handle anything else that crops up. You're welcome

[Q] any way of installing new firmware whe home button broken

just a quick question...
i had previously installed lightening rom on my samsung galaxy s2 gt-i9100. recently i wished to upgrade to jellybean however as my home button is broken/recently stopped working i cannot enter into recovery mode to use odin. kies does not recognise the os so it will not allow any upgrades.
could anyone advise me on any options i might have, im new to all this so i would really appreciate some assistance from the more knowledgeable members on this site. is there any way of breaking into the recovery/download mode without having to go thru the power/volume down/home key route?
thanks in advance for any assistance
Yes there's ways of booting into download mode. I'd advise against it though. Why? Because messing with the software with no escape route is playing with fire. If something goes wrong and you need the key combo to boot into recovery to factory reset, you're toast.
Moral of the story, get the hardware repaired before you continue to mess with the software.

Hopper is right, 'messing' with the phone with busted hardware is asking for a 116gm plastic paperweight. Do the smart thing & fix the button first.

Do you think it's really broken? If I remember right, it's a problem with litening Rom, it had a feature like "enable home button" so it could be a software issue, full wipe before flashing new Rom should fix it...afaik..
Flashing a touch recovery (dorimanx kernel) can also work around this.

I Need help with my recently rooted SG SII

So here is the story:
My phone was running slow and the battery would drain out like crazy, so I read through a few forums here and there and decided I would FACTORY RESET my phone. Now might I mention, my phone was previously rooted by using a method from galaxyroots2 ( I picked the one for GT-I9100 ). I had ROOTED IT TWICE before. Both times work flawlessly. Now this time, for some very odd reason, my phone is stuck on a Screen which displays "Samsung GALAXY S II GT-I9100" with a little YELLOW TRIANGLE at the bottom. I pulled out the battery a few times but to no avail. Now I Am able to access DOWNLOAD MODE, but I cannot access the other mode where you hold the VOL button up rather than down. I'm kinda out of ideas, I figured this would take me 5 minutes like the last time. The KERNEL is a JEEBOO Kernel, I used Odin v1.85. I haven't performed any updates since it has been rooted.
NOW MY QUESTION IS : HOW CAN I GET PAST THE SCREEN WITH THE YELLOW TRIANGLE? and please dumb down things as much as possible. I'm not the greatest when it comes to these sort of things.
SO now I am currently trying to troubleshoot using a little something I found on cnet, with "How to go back to a stock Android ROM on Samsung Galaxy S2" as a title. I have to download the official firmware first, which will take a bit of time. Update in a few hours.
Solved the problem. Here is what I did
1. Google search "android firmwares" and go to the first link ("androidfirmwares"-dot-net)
2. Go under the Galaxy S2 tab and select Firmwares. Choose the most recent one or the one that works with yours (Mine was MS4)
3. Unzip the .tar file in the compressed file you downloaded
4.On your phone, hold the Vol button down with the home button and the power button simultaneously to open dowload mode
5. Goto Odin and click on the PDA button. Select the .tar file you just downloaded
6. Press Start
7. ???
8. Profit

I think u flashed something wrong, u said u have a gt-i9100 but I think jeboo kernel is for another galaxy s2 model. So that should be the reason why it didn't boot.
Well but now u found solution so never mind
Next time be sure to flash the right things, in worst case u can be bricked without any way to get back to life
