hi i have a samsung galaxy s2 GT-i9100. i am from singapore (if region matters). i updated to the official DXLP9 4.0.3 whatchamacallit version (via the automatic update service) less than a week ago, but i didnt like it for various reasons, of which a very unsatisfactory battery life was the one i couldnt stand the most.
so i went to flash the DXKL3 2.3.6 stock rom (with odin 1.85) as i thought it would be enough to revert my phone back to the old version.
BUT i was grossly wrong. my phone now hangs at the start-up screen, and ONLY at the start-up screen. and by startup screen, i mean a black screen with white text saying "galaxy s2 gti9100" on it.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHATS WRONG somebody please help me. :/
i suppose its bricked? so is there any way i can get it working again? preferably without wiping my data please.
i apologise if im breaking rules or anything by doing this but im really really desperate for my phone to work again so please help/make an exception or somehing thank you very much and in advance to any kind soul who responds.
Did u wipe ur phone before flashing it n after flashing??? try this may b this will work first wipe ur cell than flash GB through Odin
ics to GB without data wipe, don't think so

OK you can try to go into recovery if you are root by pressing volume up+home+power key , if you aren't and install other rom via recovery, if you aren't root you can go into download mood by pressing volume down+home+power key and also flash another rom using Odin
I think it may be soft brick because your phone responded to the power key and show you start up screen
Best regards

Agh!
I recently rooted my SGH-I777, flashed it using Clockword Mod Recovery, and then rebooted into recovery using CWM. But instead of rebooting into the recovery menu, everything went black. Now my phone won't reboot into recovery mode at all (not even with the Volume Up + Volume Down + Power combo). Instead, it gives me the Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 startup screen with the yellow triangle and then the screen goes all black, with quick flashes of dark gray.
When I removed the battery (to get it out of the black screen loop), returned the battery to the device, and plugged it in (without powering up the phone), the "charging" screen with the charging battery indicator flashed on the screen for a moment, and then back to all black flashes.
I removed the battery, SD card, and SIM card for about 20 minutes because I've read that can sometimes help. No dice.
I'm running ICS 4.0.3 with a Siyah 3.4.2 kernel.
This is probably either really bad or no big deal and I'm lame for not figuring it out, but... HELP! (Please? :fingers-crossed: ) I know this has been asked, but the other threads I've found have been able to get to recovery mode, whereas I can't seem to get to that point.
If you need any other info, let me know!

download mode and flash another kernel, or the same one.
sounds like broken recovery.

The phone is not even entertaining the idea of giving me a menu of any sort at this point. Just all black screens. Super frustrating.

No d/l mode, no CWM. = brick.
no offense but im pretty sure your just not holding the buttons right.
CWM= hold both vol, then hold power, let the first screen blink once, come back, then let off power is my trick.
download, you can just hold vol buttons and insert USB belive.
Somebody used rom manager!

A-ha! Ok, so definitely no on the CWM combo, but I do get a menu using DL mode. Thank you. Seeing at least a menu made me feel much better.
I re-flashed the initial kernel, but no change. Still stuck in perpetual black screen boot loop.
I'm not opposed to doing a full-fledged wipe using Odin, if that's an option, but I've never looked into it before, and I'm currently feeling pretty gun shy when it comes to getting creative with any new tricks.

If you want stock, flash a stock ROM, or stock with root, with Odin.
If you want custom, after you flashed that custom kernel, you CAN get into CWM and flash a custom ROM.
and NEVER use ROM manager, hell it was a joke when it came out, sorry koush
EDIT:
and if you do go custom, dont forget to wipe data/factory reset in CWM before flashing.

You rock. Thank you a ton for being so patient!!
To any other fool who gets into the same mess, I went into DL mode (volume up + volume dwn + usb attached) and opted to let this do the rest of the work because it was the only option that didn't give me a heart attack: androidarea51.com/samsung-galaxy-s-ii/samsung-galaxy-sii-(sgh-i777)-att-only/
From there, I had the option of rebooting, initializing a factory reset... all of the menu options I wasn't seeing when I couldn't figure out how to get into CWM mode. Good luck!!

I know, I know (and this is a dumb excuse, much like using rom manager in the first place), but the tutorial I was reading made it seem like it was a good option. I hadn't used it in forever and logic coupled with faith in a perpetually broken system paves the road to hell, but I figured, "There's no way it still sucks as badly as I remember!"
Don't think that. Ever. My mistake.
Charge the baterry externally thats what I did when my old infuse was bricked

Samsung Galaxy s2 i-777 does not turn on
okay so I read through this thread and I still don't know how to fix my issue. I rooted my phone using Odin v 1.85 and used siyah 3.4.2. I did it successfully and everything was good. I then gave the phone to my cousin and he said he performed a factory reset to get rid of everything on the phone ( contacts ,etc). Now when I turn on the phone it shows the samsung galaxy display with the triangle and then the screen goes black and just blinks. It still goes back into download mode I just dont know what to do to fix the problem. I know I'm a noob but please HELP!!!

Have you tried flashing back to stock using odin? BTW it is not good etiquette to necro a thread that has been dormant for almost 9 months.
Hi everyone,
Please excuse my English and my knowledge about all this subject is so limited.
Today I connected my phone to Kies and was offered firmware update automatically. So i went for it (believe that it will be only for good) and the phone is now in some sort of freeze mode. It only starts up to "S Samsung galaxy S II" screen and that's it. Completely non responsive. If i try to turn it off it restart itself to that point again.
Unfortunately i can not provide any details of my phone as i cant get access to it right now. i remember that it was on gingerbread and firmware update was offering icecreamsandwich. its Galaxy S2 i9100
i don't know if its related but I'll mention it. This morning i followed instruction (i found on this forum) how to root my phone. Although i am not sure, everything went smooth and according to explanation. If was working fine until this firmware upgrade. Once again i don't know if this contributed to fail or not. Kernel i needed for my model was GT-I9100_BVKE2.
I would appreciate any help how to go back to square one (if possible) and make it work.
Thank You
OK so if you updated it to 4.0.3 and Not 4.0.4, then enter stock recovery (power, volume down, home button) and do a factory reset. Then reboot.
Edit: I mean volume up button

Thank you for your reply - how do i perform factory reset? From phone? I got to "android Downloading" screen (power, volume down, home button) and what then? Do I need to use Kies ...?
Thx
Recovery is Vol up+home+power. You move through options with volume keys and select with power or home button.

I got it from youtube.
NOPE - it wont allow me to go factory reset menu. Only goes back to "S samsung galaxy sII screen".
Does this mean what i think it means?
If youve lost stock recovery then all you can do is go to download mode and flash a 4.0.3 .tar file you download for your region from sammobile.
Then you can root the phone.
Thank you everyone for your inputs.
I went to local store and sort it out for £10. I wish i had more time to play with it but to be honest with you i lost my nerves at some point.
Thanks to all for your help!! :good:

Well you just wasted £10. You could have fixed it yourself in minutes if you had bothered to read in first place. There is plenty of guides and help here and its just a forum or search button click away.
Hi all,
Have a really bad problem, just rooted a galaxy s 3 for a friend, i've rooted many, he was on 4.1.1 i used the toolkit as i've used it before.
The root process worked well and now the phone boots up, makes a sound and then doesn't show anything on the screen.
Now nothing comes on the screen at all although it does make a boot sound (the samsung logo noise) the only thing i get on the screen is the galaxy s III logo and a small red exclamation mark up the top left.
Really would like to get this back on.
My friend bought it from singapore, although it is a i9300.
I can get to recovery and i can also get to download mode.
Any ideas?
If it is a I9300 then factory reset from recovery or flash a stock rom .

Actually sorted this now, I used the older toolkit and it caused this issue. Wiping it wouldn't have helped.
Used the new toolkit and all is well again.

I'm suffering the exact same problem (likely for the same reason - used older version, although possibly just because I messed up on my own).
@dladz, or anyone else who might be able to help, could you please give me a pointer on where to go after downloading the newer toolkit. I have a vague idea but I imagine it would be better to ask at this stage before I really mess it up myself.
If anyone could help you'd be a life saver
---------------------
Edit: After prodding around and "fixing" it I thought I'd leave this information for other noobs so they don't ask the same question/harass dladz like myself.
Simply boot up holding the vol down and home button, connect via USB and open Odin.
From there make sure that only Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked.
Click PDA and select C:\Samsung Galaxy S3 ToolKit\root\GT-I9300\boot-stock-ella-GTI9300.tar (From the toolkit - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488)
Hit start and wait for the square on the top left to turn green and say pass. The device should reboot and be work again. As I'm a retard you may decide not to follow these instructions for your own safety and the safety of your device, however it worked for me.
Apologies for being a pain in the arse, I'll go back to lurking quietly and I'll try not to break anything else.
Hey guys İ decided to flash a custom ROM -[i9100G] JB XWLSW NeatROM- to my Galaxy S2 i1900 because since İ have bought an an HTC One and İ want to have some fun with the S2 now. Btw this is my first attempt on rooting and flashing my phone so İ am quite a noob.
Anyway so İ rooted the phone with no problems and backed it up too but after flashing it is now stuck at boot screen with Samsung logo and the yellow triangle. İ know i've flashed the wrong ROM because my one isn't a i1900G, unfortunately İ have realized it too late, İ have tried to access recovery but no luck, same with the download mode.
Do İ have a brick in my hand now? Any solutions?
Any help is much appreciated.

First question.....are you sure you're trying to access recovery with the correct button combination? It's different from HTC.......
For recovery.....
Volume up, power and home button together......then release ONLY the power button when Samsung screen appears.
For Download.....
Volume down, power and home buttons together.....then release ONLY the power button when Samsung screen appears, then finally volume up.....
BTW...signs of a brick.....
No recovery
No download
No signs of life when you boot the phone
No charging indication (flashing battery image) when you plug the charger in
Phone gets warm/hot just below the main camera when phone on charge.
IMO.....you don't have a brick.....yet

Keith is correct, make sure you're using the correct button combos. If using those combos doesn't work as he said, click the link in my signature and then go to the section 'no download mode' and try the things listed there. There's a few things to try.
And Keith, how've you been mate? Long time no see!
Good mate....and you?....
Been on a camping holiday....no WiFi connection
....got a suntan though in the UK too...lol

Hey guys I have managed to fix it. It was apparently a soft brick as what the guy said on a video I watched on YouTube who is demonstrating a recovery, my bad I'm still new to all this root/custom ROM stuff, I managed to get into download mode, I was obviously doing something wrong.
I basically just downloaded the official stock firmware and went through the ODIN steps in the Download Mode and viola! I rooted the phone again and flashed the Paranoid Android 3 ROM which I am absolutely delighted with. But thanks for all replies anyway.
So in other words you got in a panic for no reason ? (If you'd done your homework before you started messing around with stuff, you would have known the situation you found yourself in was almost always easily recoverable).
Yes it's fair to say i panicked for no reason. I followed all the steps and everything but just didn't notice that the ROM I tried to flash was for i19100G. Other than that I rooted and flashed Paranoid Android with ease, but yeah I guess I need to be extra careful...
