[help] galaxy s2 not bootİng, wrong rom flashed! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys İ decided to flash a custom ROM -[i9100G] JB XWLSW NeatROM- to my Galaxy S2 i1900 because since İ have bought an an HTC One and İ want to have some fun with the S2 now. Btw this is my first attempt on rooting and flashing my phone so İ am quite a noob.
Anyway so İ rooted the phone with no problems and backed it up too but after flashing it is now stuck at boot screen with Samsung logo and the yellow triangle. İ know i've flashed the wrong ROM because my one isn't a i1900G, unfortunately İ have realized it too late, İ have tried to access recovery but no luck, same with the download mode.
Do İ have a brick in my hand now? Any solutions?
Any help is much appreciated.
Sent from my HTC One

First question.....are you sure you're trying to access recovery with the correct button combination? It's different from HTC.......
For recovery.....
Volume up, power and home button together......then release ONLY the power button when Samsung screen appears.
For Download.....
Volume down, power and home buttons together.....then release ONLY the power button when Samsung screen appears, then finally volume up.....
BTW...signs of a brick.....
No recovery
No download
No signs of life when you boot the phone
No charging indication (flashing battery image) when you plug the charger in
Phone gets warm/hot just below the main camera when phone on charge.
IMO.....you don't have a brick.....yet

Keith is correct, make sure you're using the correct button combos. If using those combos doesn't work as he said, click the link in my signature and then go to the section 'no download mode' and try the things listed there. There's a few things to try.
And Keith, how've you been mate? Long time no see!

Good mate....and you?....
Been on a camping holiday....no WiFi connection
....got a suntan though in the UK too...lol

Hey guys I have managed to fix it. It was apparently a soft brick as what the guy said on a video I watched on YouTube who is demonstrating a recovery, my bad I'm still new to all this root/custom ROM stuff, I managed to get into download mode, I was obviously doing something wrong.
I basically just downloaded the official stock firmware and went through the ODIN steps in the Download Mode and viola! I rooted the phone again and flashed the Paranoid Android 3 ROM which I am absolutely delighted with. But thanks for all replies anyway.

So in other words you got in a panic for no reason ? (If you'd done your homework before you started messing around with stuff, you would have known the situation you found yourself in was almost always easily recoverable).

Yes it's fair to say i panicked for no reason. I followed all the steps and everything but just didn't notice that the ROM I tried to flash was for i19100G. Other than that I rooted and flashed Paranoid Android with ease, but yeah I guess I need to be extra careful...

you are really not giving a lot of details here...all you are saying you tried installing a rom and then it froze halfway..
Are you rooted firstly?
If you are have you flashed CF-root kernel?
How did you try to install the rom?
More info and then more people can help you out buddy..see if you can get into recovery and restart your phone.
well... if you've tried "every" (its not like there are a lot) button combination... then just go buy a jig from ebay and force it into download mode...

Nothing from what you said would help..
He obviously flashed it with Odin, and he said he's getting a yellow triangle with a computer behind it..
From what I understood, he could get into download mode.
So just boot into download mode and flash stock ROM. That should do it.

anyone else seeing an increase in the "i bricked my phone" threads?
dont think its coincidence they are increasing after the american variants have been released. People need to check what model they have before flashing things.
OP: not saying thats what has happened to you as you dont say if you have the i9100 or not, hopefully you do.

its ok and same goes by my post as well buddy..we all been in his position one way or the other
1st - Your phone is not bricked if it show an image. Whatever image it is. The only real software way to brick your phone is to flash bad bootloader or stop a bootloader while they are being flashed. However, Bootloader are flashed first. So if your phone stoped half way, you should not have trouble too much.
Remove the battery from your phone for like a minute, then reboot your phone in download mode (vol- + home + power and when the phone light up, release power.) Then flash another rom from odin.
Also, what rom did you used ? If you flashed a rom for another phone, then you might have flashed bootloader for that phone on yours, which is bad. In this case you will surely need a JIG.
sorry im new to this whole rooting/flashing thing. i downloaded the lightning rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274
i have never rooted or doneanthing to my s2 before. all i did was follow the instructions on the page and thought it would be all good? it froze about a quarter of the way there in odin so i just took my phone out.
I usually find from this state I can get back to bootloader or download states
push and hold vol+ and home then power for bootloader
push and hold vol- and home then power for download
sometimes the phone can seem to freeze a little or even die (this happened to me loads on the galaxy s and once already on the s2) and removing battery sim etc or attaching the charger can jog it
however as other have said a JIG is your friend if for no other reason that even if you recover without it, custom roms up the rom count which some twitchy carriers might invalidate your warranty for, the jig will reset this
you can get them from ebay for less than £3 delivered, or there are instructions on this site for making them yourself if you are so inclined.
simply search 'galaxy s2 jig' on ebay mine was delivered today from portugal as I am way too lazy to make one and only wanted a counter reset anyway

[q] startup screen hang please help

hi i have a samsung galaxy s2 GT-i9100. i am from singapore (if region matters). i updated to the official DXLP9 4.0.3 whatchamacallit version (via the automatic update service) less than a week ago, but i didnt like it for various reasons, of which a very unsatisfactory battery life was the one i couldnt stand the most.
so i went to flash the DXKL3 2.3.6 stock rom (with odin 1.85) as i thought it would be enough to revert my phone back to the old version.
BUT i was grossly wrong. my phone now hangs at the start-up screen, and ONLY at the start-up screen. and by startup screen, i mean a black screen with white text saying "galaxy s2 gti9100" on it.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHATS WRONG somebody please help me. :/
i suppose its bricked? so is there any way i can get it working again? preferably without wiping my data please.
i apologise if im breaking rules or anything by doing this but im really really desperate for my phone to work again so please help/make an exception or somehing thank you very much and in advance to any kind soul who responds.
Did u wipe ur phone before flashing it n after flashing??? try this may b this will work first wipe ur cell than flash GB through Odin
ics to GB without data wipe, don't think so
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
OK you can try to go into recovery if you are root by pressing volume up+home+power key , if you aren't and install other rom via recovery, if you aren't root you can go into download mood by pressing volume down+home+power key and also flash another rom using Odin
I think it may be soft brick because your phone responded to the power key and show you start up screen
Best regards

AT&T Galaxy S II Black Screened

Agh!
I recently rooted my SGH-I777, flashed it using Clockword Mod Recovery, and then rebooted into recovery using CWM. But instead of rebooting into the recovery menu, everything went black. Now my phone won't reboot into recovery mode at all (not even with the Volume Up + Volume Down + Power combo). Instead, it gives me the Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 startup screen with the yellow triangle and then the screen goes all black, with quick flashes of dark gray.
When I removed the battery (to get it out of the black screen loop), returned the battery to the device, and plugged it in (without powering up the phone), the "charging" screen with the charging battery indicator flashed on the screen for a moment, and then back to all black flashes.
I removed the battery, SD card, and SIM card for about 20 minutes because I've read that can sometimes help. No dice.
I'm running ICS 4.0.3 with a Siyah 3.4.2 kernel.
This is probably either really bad or no big deal and I'm lame for not figuring it out, but... HELP! (Please? :fingers-crossed: ) I know this has been asked, but the other threads I've found have been able to get to recovery mode, whereas I can't seem to get to that point.
If you need any other info, let me know!

The phone is not even entertaining the idea of giving me a menu of any sort at this point. Just all black screens. Super frustrating.

No d/l mode, no CWM. = brick.
no offense but im pretty sure your just not holding the buttons right.
CWM= hold both vol, then hold power, let the first screen blink once, come back, then let off power is my trick.
download, you can just hold vol buttons and insert USB belive.
Somebody used rom manager!

A-ha! Ok, so definitely no on the CWM combo, but I do get a menu using DL mode. Thank you. Seeing at least a menu made me feel much better.
I re-flashed the initial kernel, but no change. Still stuck in perpetual black screen boot loop.
I'm not opposed to doing a full-fledged wipe using Odin, if that's an option, but I've never looked into it before, and I'm currently feeling pretty gun shy when it comes to getting creative with any new tricks.

If you want stock, flash a stock ROM, or stock with root, with Odin.
If you want custom, after you flashed that custom kernel, you CAN get into CWM and flash a custom ROM.
and NEVER use ROM manager, hell it was a joke when it came out, sorry koush
EDIT:
and if you do go custom, dont forget to wipe data/factory reset in CWM before flashing.

You rock. Thank you a ton for being so patient!!
To any other fool who gets into the same mess, I went into DL mode (volume up + volume dwn + usb attached) and opted to let this do the rest of the work because it was the only option that didn't give me a heart attack: androidarea51.com/samsung-galaxy-s-ii/samsung-galaxy-sii-(sgh-i777)-att-only/
From there, I had the option of rebooting, initializing a factory reset... all of the menu options I wasn't seeing when I couldn't figure out how to get into CWM mode. Good luck!!

I know, I know (and this is a dumb excuse, much like using rom manager in the first place), but the tutorial I was reading made it seem like it was a good option. I hadn't used it in forever and logic coupled with faith in a perpetually broken system paves the road to hell, but I figured, "There's no way it still sucks as badly as I remember!"
Don't think that. Ever. My mistake.
Charge the baterry externally thats what I did when my old infuse was bricked

Samsung Galaxy s2 i-777 does not turn on
okay so I read through this thread and I still don't know how to fix my issue. I rooted my phone using Odin v 1.85 and used siyah 3.4.2. I did it successfully and everything was good. I then gave the phone to my cousin and he said he performed a factory reset to get rid of everything on the phone ( contacts ,etc). Now when I turn on the phone it shows the samsung galaxy display with the triangle and then the screen goes black and just blinks. It still goes back into download mode I just dont know what to do to fix the problem. I know I'm a noob but please HELP!!!

Rooted i9300 no screen problem

Hi all,
Have a really bad problem, just rooted a galaxy s 3 for a friend, i've rooted many, he was on 4.1.1 i used the toolkit as i've used it before.
The root process worked well and now the phone boots up, makes a sound and then doesn't show anything on the screen.
Now nothing comes on the screen at all although it does make a boot sound (the samsung logo noise) the only thing i get on the screen is the galaxy s III logo and a small red exclamation mark up the top left.
Really would like to get this back on.
My friend bought it from singapore, although it is a i9300.
I can get to recovery and i can also get to download mode.
Any ideas?
If it is a I9300 then factory reset from recovery or flash a stock rom .

Actually sorted this now, I used the older toolkit and it caused this issue. Wiping it wouldn't have helped.
Used the new toolkit and all is well again.

I'm suffering the exact same problem (likely for the same reason - used older version, although possibly just because I messed up on my own).
@dladz, or anyone else who might be able to help, could you please give me a pointer on where to go after downloading the newer toolkit. I have a vague idea but I imagine it would be better to ask at this stage before I really mess it up myself.
If anyone could help you'd be a life saver
---------------------
Edit: After prodding around and "fixing" it I thought I'd leave this information for other noobs so they don't ask the same question/harass dladz like myself.
Simply boot up holding the vol down and home button, connect via USB and open Odin.
From there make sure that only Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked.
Click PDA and select C:\Samsung Galaxy S3 ToolKit\root\GT-I9300\boot-stock-ella-GTI9300.tar (From the toolkit - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488)
Hit start and wait for the square on the top left to turn green and say pass. The device should reboot and be work again. As I'm a retard you may decide not to follow these instructions for your own safety and the safety of your device, however it worked for me.
Apologies for being a pain in the arse, I'll go back to lurking quietly and I'll try not to break anything else.

O2 UK original Firmware for Galaxy S3

Hi all, I have tried to unlock my galaxy S3 gt i 9300, which is locked to O2 UK. I live in Ireland and bought the phone from a guy on e bay. I got the unlock code from two different sources and both are the same, but neither will unlock the phone, I have tried the unfreeze code too but it gets me nowhere. Entering the keyboard codes does not work either. The firmware baseband version which is on the phone at present is I9300XXUGMK6, the build number is JSS15J.I9300XXUGNA5, I feel that if I can get the phone back to it's original O2 UK firmware then I might be able to unlock the thing. My problem is that I have found I9300XXALE8_I9300O2UALE5_O2U to be the original firmware, but the link to it from every site is dead and I cannot download it, all the links were to hotfile and we all know what became of it. If anyone has any other suggestions as to how I might unlock my phone then I would be more than happy to try them.
Best wishes Wez
Flash the latest o2u, root it with cf autoroot, nvdata unlock method. Do not attempt to go back from 4.3 as you will half cabbage your phone. The efs changed.

At the risk of sound stupid, I am going to ask one question, where do I find said latest stock ROM for my O2 UK S3, because all the ones I find are not on any link that works, they nearly all try to send me to hotfile, would seem that nobody has taken the trouble to put up any mirror download links, which has left me very frustrated. Hope someone can please point me in the right direction, because I have a phone which is of no use to me.

Many thanks to all who helped with my problem, I managed to get my s3 unlocked, just need to get it rooted now and get rid of the stupid thing keeps going to safe mode when booted normally, but if I boot whilst holding the home key (the middle one at the bottom) then the phone will try to boot into download mode, I then hit the volume down button and hole the home key again, this time the phone reboots itself and will boot into a non safe mode. Though this is not ideal and someone needs to find a cure for this, it is better than nothing. Tried to flash the resurrection remix ROM, but it stopped when a bit was done and failed will try some other custom ROM when I get the chance, at the moment my phone is keeping going back to the recovery screen.
Will let you know what happens, best wishes Wez

To get out of the recovery boot lock I had to leave the phone with the battery out of it for about 5 minutes, I was then able to get into download mode, by booting with the volumes down and home buttons held. I then used Odin to reflash the stock firmware again, which it did OK.Then I needed to root the phone again so I did that. I then downloaded the Android Revolution DH-SGS3, moved it to the external SD card, rebooted into recovery and flashed it to the phone, but again the phone went into it's crazy recovery boot loop, at the moment I have the battery out of kit and will try replacing it now and booting into the new ROM. It appears to be booting into the rom now, it has been on the Samsung screen for a while now and I am hoping that it will boot into the rom given a little time, this being it's first boot. OK all booted up OK, the only problem that remains is the bleeding thing booting into safe mode, but lots of people have got that.
Happy days, best wishes Wez

The boot issue started after I had tried to flash with another rim, which I feel was not fully downloaded, at any rate the flash was abandoned and when I went back through the options and hit the reboot now, it went into the loop. I had to remove the battery and leave it out for about 5 minutes, less might have done, when I reinstalled the battery, I went into download and using Odin flashed the phone with a stock rom and rooted it, then I flashed the android revelation rom, the phone again got stuck on the loop, this time I took the battery out the phone and left it, again for about 5 minutes, then replaced the battery and hit the power button and the phone booted into the rom, after a few minutes. I have been using this rom for a while now, but have noticed that for some reason the sound, for everything goes of completely, nit found a cure for that yet, but I am downloading the Echoe rom now, it will soon be finished, and I am going to flash it as soon as I can. I have the Echoe rom on my SGS4 and like it very much. I shall let you know if I have the same problem with this rom, when I flash it, the loop that is.

The Echoe ROM flashed without any further loop and to my surprise the phone did not boot into safe mode, so an improvement there, with both. But the sound is still a problem. I have since the first boot had to reboot several times and the damned thing is back to the bloody safe mode. To get round it now I have to hold the volume down, the home and power keys, to take me to the screen for download, when there I push the volume down and the phone goes to reboot, in it's own, while it is doing that I hold the home button, the phones boots without going into safe mode. I have tried to do it the way I was before, but it is not working that way now, so got to go down the way of booting into the download screen, but at least it works.
Very best wishes and good luck Wez
Interesting.. it would seem that the issue lies with custom roms. Which recovery are you using? Cwm 6032 is a good recovery to start with, moving on to 6047. I had issues with twrp.
