Anyone getting several random reboots a day from their Evo3D? I am having that issue including the screen not turning on and then rebooting.
Nope. Turn off Fastboot. Turn off the phone. Hold Volume down + Power. Reset.
When I hold the power and volume down do I do a factory reset from Hboot?
Still getting random reboots after turning off fastboot in settings.

weird, no problems here.
I got a similar problem here except mines happens whenever I try to run a couple applications at the same time.
mine was doing it, it would lock up too and have to pull the battery to reset it
I returned the phone after all the TS'ing failed, and my 2nd one's not doing it
Yep. Mine just did 5 reboots in a row. No joke. All I did was try to go into Skins. That's when it completely froze up, restarted and it won't stop. I just bought the thing not more than 3 hours ago. I can't figure out what the problem is. It sometimes goes past the boot screen but after the HTC Splash screen the screen goes black with nothing but the Hot buttons at the bottom on.

Perform a Factory Reset. That will likely solve the issue. You can search the forum or google the instructions.

Can I get into recovery if I'm not rooted? The phone goes passed the splash screen then goes blank.
Edit. I didn't know hboot had that option. I'm trying it now. Thanks.
EDIT
Thanks, that did the trick.
Edit.
Nope. Even after a factory reset it continues to reboot.

This may or may not work, but pull the data off your sd card if you have any, if not, don't worry about it. Pull it from the phone, format it on your computer (just a quick format should work) put it back in your phone then perform another factory reset. See if that helps. My first one reboot randomly several times when I first got it and that seemed to help for a while. If it happens again, call Sprint and tell them what's happening and have them send you another one. I had to do that. I have 35 days before I have to send my old one back, that gives me plenty of time to play with the new one and see if I can recreate the issue. So far...it's working perfectly. This is an awesome phone, but getting new technology when it first comes out, I expect bugs.

I would have Sprint replace that thing, for sure.

Have you tried running the RUU? I'm trying to convince myself that it's a software problem because I have a perfect screen.

I had the same problem with one of my 3Ds. I took it back and they exchanged it no problem.
Took mine to the store and they gave me a brand new one since it was in the 30 Days. This one works perfectly
....i'm on my third one now, sprint told me this was the last time they will replace it...im having the same issue....black screen, low reception, restart, and battery life sucks on this one the other ones were perfect on battery life....hope they fix it.
i have the issues for several days. fixed without hard reset
1) uninstall all 3rd party app killer. ATM, ATK, juicy defender
2) use evo task manager to kill apps when memory below 100m
3) restart the phone, and turn off the phone again.
4) if your phone restart within 20sec, then your phone is in good condition
the reboot can be caused by
1) 3rd party app killer
2) low memory or extreme CPU usuage(3d camera and music play and lot of background app sametime)
3) hot battery
4) bad cache and improper restart. if reboot once, it will continue reboot, the memory seems have bad cache, you need to manualy turn if off safely and restart again.
i cannot be more satisified with the battery. don't use any atm atk or juicy defender, they are battery killer.
decrease display brightness, disable GPS.
i play online stream music for 8hrs on wifi and still have 40% battery left. no other phone can do this.
Happened to me as well, after 5 random reboots within the first 4 hours of having the phone and then not being able to boot it up at all I returned it and got a new one, fine so far only 1 random reboot in 3 days.
My reboots are very different and never when I'm using the phone but rather when I try to use the phone. With my phone obviously being on, I would press the power button but the screen would stay black. I would press it again and still nothing, then immediately after the screen would flash the lockscreen and then go black and immediately after that it reboots to the HTC screen. This happens everyday, sometimes 4-5 times a day. Anybody else seeing this exact behavior?

Anyone else run into this issue? Worst case if it comes down to it, think they will give me a new Photon?
Hey, I ran into this.. https ://supportforums.motorola.com/message/400251[/url]
It is sort of similar to what happened in your case. Sorry I can't be of much help.
I had the same thing happen when I flashed the 198_7 update in RSD. I pulled the battery and let it sit for a minute. Then I restarted in recovery mode (Hold Volume down +Power, press volume down until you see "Boot Android (No BP)" and then press Volume Up. You should see the message "Cold-Booting Linux" and hopefully the phone will restart. Not sure what caused the error or if this was what even fixed it but I've had no issued since. Let us know if this works, I for one would like to know if this is a real fix or mine just coincidentally worked afterwards.
EDIT: I just tried the "Cold-Boot" again and after it restarted I had no CDMA service, don't worry a quick reboot restores connections. So it seems that this option may actually bypass the modem power up which is probably why it worked. I'm still still not sure what the "no BP" stands for though, anyone?
Was using RSD to manually install 198_6 and now the phone won't turn on unless plugged into a wall charger and then it displays "modem will not power up (2)". Anyone able to help save my butt?

Was a no go. Couldn't get into recovery. Took it to sprint and supposedly the battery is dead as well. Biggest concern is them digging for any messing around. Was able to factory reset and lock the bootloader so they shouldn't be able to call shenanigans. My evo shift is now my clock and useful as long as there is wifi lol

I saw that thing once, but it was normally - returned the battery and went to recovery normally.
Sprint said they couldnt do anything, looks like its Asurion time :\
Started messing with the phone while waiting on asurion and i can get it to get into fastboot, etc options. It will wait a while but still goes back to the modem will not power up and battery is too low to flash :/ any suggestions on how to maybe charge the battery i know sprint is saying the battery failed but that seems unlikely
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
Also seems like the phone knows when it is plugged into an outlet vs my computer. When the phone is connected to my computer it turns the led white, while the outlet turns the led green then the screen turns on. If i could get the screen on while plugged into my computer i could maybe get my phone back in working order
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
Joker had a little trick but you had to hack up a USB cable to get it to work. You might ask him. But that seemed to charge.
I just went ahead and called asurion, photon should be here tomorrow afternoon. Still cant figure out why the phone bricked. Oh well :/
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
What were you doing when it happened?
Sent from my Photon via XDA
Rsd back to stock to take my phone in for rebooting and screen of death issues lol
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
Did you have it fully charged?
I believe it was lower than normal when i use rsd, that may have been why
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
That is probably true.
Sent from my Photon via XDA
Well despite my user error i am so happy to be back with a photon. This one seems to be bug free as well. The screen if death and reboots definitely must have been hardware related. This one also does not seen to heat up as bad either. This thread can be closed.

Re-read the guide, I updated on why many people are having issues bricking. let the device sit for about 2 minutes while it says vol up to update, don't press update right away.
Took me a bunch of times, but I tried different times (5 seconds didn't work, try 4 seconds, etc) finally got it at 3.5 but it took probably about 15 times. Just so you don't get too frustrated, think about this: IT IS HARD TO BRICK OUR PHONE EVEN WHEN TRYING!
LOL, this is a good thing.
Once again THANK YOU for the downgrade!

Keep trying, it takes the right timing, 5 seconds is just about enough time, you could also disregard the time aspect and simply look for the update indication bar. It's in the upper right hand corner, the INSTANT you see that bar, you pull the cord.
Never give up. Use live CD. Took me three tries, and hboot 1.4 now.
1st EVO 3d, Hboot 1.4
2nd EVO 3d, Downgraded Hboot 1.4
MeanRom
Anthrax....
Perfection, at least for me!
It took me 78 tries (yes, I kept a running tally) but did eventually get it. I stopped looking for the elusive "dim light" and just plugged it into my Linux box after every attempt. Took 3 tries after that.

The light is RIDICULOUSLY dim. I was telling my wife I don't know how it was figured out due to the fact that one could barely see it.
Make sure you use the stock EVO 3d charger and usb cord also plug directly into wall no power strip trust me it makes a big difference.

I never came back to this thread sorry. I was able to do it a day after I posted this and expressed my joy in the official thread
I know this is an older thread, but I just wanted to see if anyone knew why my HTC a/c charger turned the phone off every time I pulled the battery to brick? I have a Samsung charger and 2 HTC chargers. Neither HTC charger will keep the phone on after I pull the batter, only the Samsung... Rather frustrating, especially when all the forums say you MUST use the HTC a/c charger.
You don't *have* to use the HTC charger. I used a cheap two port Walmart charger and it worked fine. Use a charger that keeps your phone on...that's the trick. If it means using another brand charger, who cares, just as long as your phone stays turned on.

Thanks for the quick reply! Ok that takes some of the frustrations out a little. Also if I have bricked the phone correctly the phone will NOT turn on when I press the power button correct?

I think that's correct, but i never tried to turn it back on. I just saw that the lamp was just barely on, very, very dim and i moved to the next step. You can do it. And the power strip works well for some people. They say it's easier to time shutting the power strip off than pulling out the cable. But ymmv.
If your 3devo is bricked, all you will see is a *very* faint glow of the power led. So faint that you damn near have to be in a dark room...really dark. I did mine at night and could hardly see the faint glow.
It took me three tries. The first two, I waited too long. Third time was the charm.
I'm 99.9999% sure it won't turn on. Thus the term, "bricked."

Hi, so I recently put the BAMF custom rom on the phone last night, and it seemed to work alright, I got a couple of random reboots and bootloops, but I figured I would fix it in the morning, so I left my phone on the side, and in the morning when I woke up, it wouldn't even turn on, I've left it plugged in for a couple of hours into a wall charger, the front and back of my computer and nothing. If I take out the battery, and plug it in, the little orange light does appear at the top for about 5 seconds then disappears, nothing on the screen though at all. When it is plugged into my computer, I do near the noise that means it recognized something was plugged in but that's it.
Thanks
Neil
This is why you don't use clockworkmod
Your phone died somehow and is unable to charge because of clockwork
You have to charge the battery either in another phone or with a battery charger
Good luck

What recovery ?..if clockwork recovery sounds like battery ran down . If so search clockwork charging problems and you will find numerous threads with fixes. If you can get into hboot I would flash amon ra recovery then let phone charge.

I was running a CM9 build, and my battery got low. Out of nowhere it shut off(rather than powering down) when I still had 10-15% battery left. I figured no big deal, I'd just pop my other battery in. Nothing. Plugged it in to charge(with both batteries), nothing. Can't get to Hboot or recovery as of now. Anything? Anyone?
Crisis averted. I have no idea what the hell happened, but I popped the full battery back out and back in a few times, and then it randomly worked. That was scary as hell. I've never seen it do anything like that before.

As do I. I was going DEFCON 1 for a little bit. Hope to never have that happen again.
Same thing happened to me on clean ROM 4.5. A couple times, I have also seen the problem here before. The phone doesn't like to go dead for some reason but it always came back on after awhile with a new battery or starts charging after sitting plugged in awhile. I have just been switching batteries as soon as its low.

I don't understand why putting a new battery in though doesn't immediately solve it though. I had heard of people having charging issues after it died, but not with a new battery in. Lesson learned though. Ha.
Note to self: do not let phone die. It will get even by causing you to have a mini stroke

I believe it has something to do with the the board holding a charge without a battery. I have had it happen to me a couple of times. If you wait 5 to 10 minutes, if begins charging. It scared me the first time it happened to me.

Luckily it randomly decided to work. I think what may have caused it is that I used my extended battery(only 1980 mAh) for the first time in a while, so the battery was misreading the percentage, and actually fully discharged. Still doesn't explain why a fully charged battery wouldn't boot it though. *shrugs*
