This may be in wrong form, and maybe it should be in development thread for the liquid smooth Rom. I asked there and cannot find in other searches so please help.
Before this Rom I was able to set a default for where new contacts were saved. I believe it was in contacts somewhere around display options.
I want all new contacts to go to one of two Gmail accounts every time.
I cannot find where to set that, and so, saved now go to phone or SIM, I think, and when I reflash I lose those new contacts.
Anyone know where to set a default for this? Maybe it changed between ics and jb and possibly is not just the new liquid Rom.
Thanx.

Is there an easy way to merge contacts on the phone? For example, I have a couple hundred contacts I copied from my SIM card to the phone. Is there an easy way to link these to GMail contacts (they don't already exist in GMail) or do I have to manually create a new contact, and link them for each one?
Also, on another Vibrant of mine, I have the reverse problem. All of the contacts are GMail/Facebook linked, but not Phone. So I can't set custom ringtones for any of them. Is there an easy way to make them also on the phone so I can set ringtones?
Thanks!
I hated having to store existing contacts to phone just to set up custom ringtones, thankfully 2.2 fixes this. Also, theres an import/export option, if it saves the contacts to a .csv file than you can import those to gmail like that.
My advice..root and upgrade to JL4 2.2 stock firmware. everything works and battery life has been great for the past 4 or 5 days.
Good to hear. I wonder if this is an issue in all pre-2.2 android phones, or just samsung?
Nope it was not an issue on my g1. I think you could assign custom ringtones back in 1.5 using stock dialer...its just touchwiz as far as I know.

Why can't you change the default for your contact that you create on the phone to default to a Google contact instead of the phone contact? Does anyone know how this can be changed? I rooted my phone and lost a couple contacts that I had put in the phone because phone contacts don't sync to the gmail account. Glad I at least found this out early so I don't have a huge problem when putting a different rom on it in the future.

that was a really annoying "feature" of the samsung fascinate. I guess the only way around it is to use the AOSP contacts program. I will attempt to restore it from titanium backup and see if it works
it usually sets it as gmail right out of the gate when i'm creating contacts, etc...i find myself checking every once in awhile now anyways. it is truly annoying!

A) language
B) It's a feature of sense, therefore htc, not vzw, is to blame.
however, yes, annoying. One solution would be to export contracts to SD from phone, import from SD to google.
(you would have to keep doing this, but it's a good way to back up before wipe/flash.)

LOL! Couldn't have said it better myself.
edited my previous post. Seems go contacts wouldn't solve the issue.

I did the same thing. I went into gmail and organized/updated all my contacts. So now all my phone contacts are Google contacts. Be sure to go into gmail and do a perge/merge of any duplicates. This makes porting contacts over that much easier.
What really annoyed me was the linking/suggested linking of contacts on the phone vs google vs facebook. After you centralize everything around your google contacts things become much easier.
To set contact default to Google go into you contact list then press menu and choose view next uncheck the box that says "phone" and now your default is Google

I think if you create the new contact in your google account (vs on the phone) then it will sync up and everything will be OK.
I have to get into my google account contacts and clean up some stuff, duplicates, etc., that seem to appear every now and then.

Thanks, this is one step closer to what I need. I have a couple GMail accounts on my phone one of which I use solely for work contacts and I use the option of selecting which GMail account I added the new contact to. Really missing this feature
Any word if the AOSP contact app works?

That just changes which contacts show. I am talking about entering a new contact and letting it be a Google contact by default. I don't want to accidentally set it up as a phone contact which will not sync to your Google account.

I gotta say Contact Management with Android has been probably one of my biggest frustrations. I like the ability to sync my GMail contacts, that's easy enough. But between getting pictures and "linking" "synching" and "attaching" contacts via Twitter, MS Exchange, and other means... TO not being able to only populate mobile numbers when creating SMS/MMS's and such, it is just way more difficult than it should be.
It could and SHOULD be much simpler. Maybe I'm just a wii-todd, idk.. Either way, I feel your pain dude.
Ya so was I.... Maybe since u have a mixture it isn't working for u.....Export all your contact to Google then remove ur Google account from the phone then delete all ur contacts off ur phone then sync with Google and do the steps I posted before

Read the thread over and over again, and skimmed through the Q&A forums, couldn't find anything.
I went from an earlier build of DarkSide ROM to the v2.0, which, while still retaining Motoblur, it skipped the setup, and as far as I can tell, I have nothing to do with it.
Before, I was able to click on Accounts -> Other Accounts, and add Facebook to my contacts list. It would sync with the contact lists I already had, with a few outliers that I manually fixed.
With the new build, the other accounts -> Facebook option is not there, until I install the app. Even then, in the accounts window if I click on Facebook it does nothing. In my contacts list I don't see any information other than what was in Google.
Am I missing something here? How do I get it to re-sync contacts with FB, or was that phased out? I'm reading a lot of conflicting information, so I am pretty confused.
I would love to learn how to do that. I did it all the time on my Captivate. I didn't get to try to do that on the stock rom on my Atrix and haven't been able to do it on any of the many roms I've used.
Happened to me first flash of cm7 reflashed and it was fixed

Okay so I'm not sure if this is an htc thing or not but it won't default save phone numbers to my gmail account. I flash different roms so when I wipe data I am surprised to have missing contacts. Maybe I'm completely overlooking something in settings but can anyone please help? It doesn't ask where I want to save the numbers either I came from a Nexus and everything was just thru google lol
Edit: Figured out how to save them to google but is there a way to just default it to that?

When you store a new contact. make sure that the second field you choose and click google. I'll talk to some of the guys and see if theres a way to make that to google as a tweak. Been past experience that Android is self learning. After you save so many to google. contacts should start defaulting to google on its own. Not sure if DNA still holds this feature.
Does anyone else have a problem using the G3 and saving contacts? I have a Bumbped Verizon G3, and my Girlfriend has the T-Mobile G3, but BOTH of us are unable to SAVE new contacts. I have ben usuing/Flashing android since the OG Droid and have never had a problem with my google account, but it just strikes me odd as we've never had problems until we've been using the G Series phones.
Does anybody else have this problem? Any Ideas?
I'm Running Skydragon Also. I like to stay as close to stock as possible.
Are you checking to see if the number is being saved to the phone or your google account.

the google.
when I first add a contact it'll bring up which account i'd like to save it to and I make sure its my gmail, then I go to my actual gmail in my settings and sync everything about a good ten thousand times, and once I flash a new rom it's all gone again.

I would suggest you make sure you have all the contacts you want on your device, then log in on google contacts from your PC and erase everything and re-sync your phone. I had to do this before my contacts would stick or stop duplicating themselves when I first got this phone.
I always save the contacts to the sd card. And restore from the sd card.
