Phone: GTI9300
PC : WIndows XP
I have an SGS3 int'l version that has recently developed a USB issue after an unsuccessful attempt to update my firmware using Kies. Whenever the phone is plugged in via USB it will begin charging, but the PC doesnt recognize the phone at all. I have reinstalled kies with no luck.
Any ideas on the USB issue and how to possibly fix it?
Try reinstalling drivers.

I uninstalled and reinstalled KIes (which includes the device drivers)...
I had same problem, and after 2 days to find a solution, i re-install win7 and it works directly
So you've got a problem with your win7.
:/
im on the old XP. I had no problems before, but after I was trying upgrade my firmware using Kies (it was stuck during the process), so I closed the program rebootd the Pc. Then the phone is not recognized at all...only charges when usb connected..

Ya I did all that...now Im stumped..
When I connect the s3 to the pc, the phone immediately pops up "connected as a media device" , but the pc is not showing anything or picking anything up...
Try it on another computer (preferably Windows 7).
That'll allow you to see if the issue is on phone- or computer-side.
i put my i9100 into download mode to use odin to flash rom, when connected to my computer via usb, computer shows unknown usb device (driver installed, tried multiple computer and different usb ports and usb cables)
this started happening after i flash a rom, it is CriskeloROM Gingerbread V34.
tried using recovery to flash to a different rom, recovery would inform me that can't mount sd card.
help please.
Remove KIES, then reinstall samsung USB drives only.
This should be in Q&A section.

uninstall kies and USB drivers, install kies (not install kies, just driver), tried all those, doesn't work.
it's not that the Odin is not compatible with my S II, or the drivers are not installed (when i'm booted into my phone, connect phone to computer while not in download mode, computer picks up phone fine. it's only when the phone is in download mode.)
anything else guys?
or is my phone ****ed?

thanks for the suggestion, when the phone is not in download mode, connecting to the computer with usb is fine, it's only when it's in download mode that it's give me troubles.
Hmmm... Then search for hardware id issues.
There are some chances of that

USB driver is must
You will need to install the USB driver:
FYI:
http://developer.samsung.com/android/tools-sdks/Samsung-Andorid-USB-Driver-for-Windows
try this with different USB ports.
Win 7 will not recognize my s2 device. Win 7 only sees the phone in mass storage mode. I have tried the usual solutions such as uninstalling the USB drivers and selecting and deselecting the PDA and Modem options in the USB dialog box on the phone. Also re-installed the Samsung drivers as well
Try USB debugging in developers settings. Are you using custom rom mate?
