com.coliris.picasa.contentprovider causes excessive battery drain in ICS - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Since upgrading to ICS, I noticed that my AT&T Note battery has been suffering. Using BetterBatteryStats, I noticed that there is a process that caused "Partial Wakelock" for hours: com.coliris.picasa.contentprovider.
Based on my research (there's not much infor BTW), it has to do with Picasa syncing with the Gallery app. This was documented in Google Bug list (http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=24145) but that's it.
I wonder if anyone have any experiences on this and how to fix this issue. I DO want Picasa sync on my phone, but not at the expense of the battery life.

I'm not familiar with the Picasa app, but is there anything in Settings that allows you to set the sync interval, to perhaps Daily?

Picasa is the web-based photo sharing application, part of the Google products like GMail, etc.
The "Gallery" application in AT&T Note ICS have a built-in feature to sync pictures in the phone to your Picasa account and vice versa. Under Settings --> Accounts and Sync you will see "Sync to Picasa", among others like "Sync Gmail", etc.
So no, I cannot reduce the number of syncing. For now I am disabling this completely just to see what would happen, but wondering if anyone came across this..or even use Picasa.

I just about choked.....I thought the title said something else!!!!! still LMFAO!!!!!

[Q] How much battery does Motoblur Social Networking app drain?

I noticed some horrible battery life (about less than 9 hours) on my phone, and suspected that Motoblur had something to do with it. 4G, bt, wifi, and gps were not on the entire day.
I did a quick search and saw people complaining that the Social Networking app can be a battery drainer. Have you guys noticed anything?
I set it to one hour sync for now (instead of the default - push), and we'll see how it goes tomorrow. But if that's the case, do you know if I can remove those accounts completely, but still have Facebook and Twitter account information linked to the contacts with their own apps?
9 hours is honestly ok
You can remove any accounts you want and the phone will function fine. My phone lasts like 12 hours with medium use and 6 and a half with heavy usage.

Not really, i constantly check my battery usage and Social Networking has always stayed low on the list. I also have mine set to 1 hour update increments. I was interested in removing all motoblur parts but was disappointed to find that androids Facebook app does 'not' sync pictures to contacts and such and doesnt contain an option. If there is a way to do this, i'd like to know as well. What you can do if your rooted is allow moto's social networking to tag all of your contacts with pictures, then backup your contacts with Titanium. At that point you can remove you accounts, restore through Titanium and have your pictures on your contacts with your facebook account unlinked. Granted, this obviously wont work for new friends you would acquire.
I would just put up with it till someone releases a rom with stock android if you really dislike motoblur. Hopefully that will happen soon, as that seems to be what most people are wanting.

[Q] Question about a wakelock (Ouch) [Solved]

Take a look at my wakelocks. For some reason, calendar is holding one entirely too long. My Gmail wakelock seems a little high too, but not out of the ordinary (I receive and send a lot of emails during the day). I noticed the calendar wakelock when it was at 37 minutes. I thought it may have been because I leave calendar notifications in the status bar. Cleared them - no luck, still holding it. Went to calendar settings and turned off notifications - no luck, still holding it. Weird thing is my battery life has still been pretty good, but my device shouldn't be working that hard, for that long.
Does anyone know what "StartingAlertService" (associated with calendar) is? I need some help in pinpointing exactly how to stop this wakelock. Not using the calendar (or using an alternate one) is not an option.

The problem is in TouchWizCalendar.apk not releasing the wakelock properly in class ServiceHandler inside class AlertService

The touchwiz calendar from his thread fixes the problem. It will work on any Samsung-based rom, 9100 hellraised or i777 bases.

Man that's weird... High sync wakelock usage seems like what I call "gmail weak-signal battery rape". Battery would start dropping like a rock if the phone lost signal at certain points during the sync cycle without the cpuidle fix. Things got much better after implementing the cpuidle fix in the kernel, but drain would still be much higher than normal. However your calendar wakelock doesn't seem to be related to sync. I suggest Googling it, or try temporarily disabling calendar sync.
Does this only happen when in weak signal areas?

I know, I thought the same thing. I'll keep looking around. It finally stopped at 1 hr 14 mins of wakelock. I hadn't figured out anything else to change so it stopped on its own. If it picks back up again, I'll disable sync in an attempt to gather more information. I've been in a pretty weak signal area for most of the day. I'll monitor it when in other coverage situations.
Update: So I found a HTC Hero thread over a year old over at AndroidForums and it appears that the remedy is to clear data of the calendar application (there were 3 in manage applications that were associated with calendar, so I cleared them all) and re-sync. I had to uncheck and recheck the sync option for Google Calendar, which is what brought my events back. Like I mentioned, the wakelock ended up stopping on its own, but hopefully this will prevent it from occurring again.

I was having the same problem. I rebooted the phone, went in to the manage applications list and hit clear cache and clear data in the calendar app. Then I went to accounts & sync and re-synced the calendar and it has been working fine ever since. I also use spare parts to monitor the battery useage and awake time, so I can see if it ever pops up again. Been about a week now and the calendar is not keeping my phone awake any longer.

OK, so it was a variation on sync battery rape.
I know if you have a Google service that doesn't seem to be syncing reliably (missing events in Calendar, missing emails in Gmail), clearing data for that app usually fixes it.
I have the similar issue but uncheck the calendar sync for my Hotmail solves the problem (just as it did on my Captivate 2.3 ROM). I can't believe Samsung hasn't address the Hotmail calendar sync bug yet.

Facebook issues

I just got the Rezound, stock. I can't stop facebook from wanting to sync with my calender and phone book. I delete it under accounts/sync and when I check back, it is there again. I also get a "auth htc sense to acces facebook" notification alot. I don't want face book to sync with anything on my phone and I can't get it to stop. It's driving me crazy. On my incredible, just deleted facebook under accounts/sync and no issues. Also under people on the pulldown, face book is unchecked and also I stopped the sync for face book too. But all the face book stuff is present in my phone. I've also been reading there are two types of facebook, regular facebook and facebook for sense, whatever that means. Please help
did you also turn off syncing within the facebook app itself?
also, try leaving the account there in the accounts and sync settings, but click it and uncheck everything, see if that'll work. may still have to change the people and calender settings to not show FB stuff also, but may stop it.
but sounds rather wonky, may be worth clearing data/cache of the app, then uninstalling and reinstalling.
There really isn't a "Facebook and Facebook for HTC Sense." One is just the FB app, while the other is the Sense integration of FB, such as the widgets, uploads, and sycning, that don't actually require the app to be installed.

Anyone else having problems with Picasa and Task syncing?

Everyone,
I have two issues with my new HTC EVO 4G LTE and I was hoping some folks here on the forum may be able to help. I think both are related to my use of a Google Apps account as opposed to a standard GMail account (Google Apps lets me get Gmail through Google using my own domain name). My two issue are:
1.) Access to Picasa Web Albums within the HTC Gallery application. When I attemp to browse my Picasa albums I always get the error "The user has no albums to display" despite having several public albums. I have verified that my Google account does have Google Photos and Picasa Web Album syncing enabled in the phone settings.
2.) Syncing of tasks to my Google Apps account. When I create the task on the phone, everything works great but when I sync that task to my Google Apps account, multiple copies of the task appear on the calendar application. In addition, when the task is viewed on a computer or other device, the task appears a day later than originally scheduled.
HTC says they are "aware of the problems" but have no ETA on a fix. I was hoping someone here may have a solution or that a solution may have been pushed into on the many ROMS available (i.e. MeanROM). Any help or information would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Thanks,
Brian
I'm running stock with goodies and I been getting the same error on picasa.
Im running stock with goodies 1.75 and having the same problem.

[Q] What does "Sync Photos" really do?

Hi,
Do you know what really happens when you activate the "Sync Photos" option for your Google account on your Android Phone? I have this option activated and all my Google+ albums appear on my phone. Nonetheless, it is only taking about 100MB of space, which is much less than what my G+ photos really take.
So, is Android only keeping a low quality version of each picture? If so, when does it download the full version of a picture?
By the way, after setting up my Nexus 4, I noticed that the old Sync Picasa Web Albums option is gone. Why is that so and what is the actual difference between the "old" "Sync Picaca Web Albums" and the newer "Sync Photos"?
