Hello,
I am an Xperia S LT26i user. I really want to root my phone to use apps that require root acces.
Now I saw this thread on rooting the Xperia S, U, etc...
Link to thread:

So my question about this is, if I root my phone on the way explained there, will I lose my apps installed on the phone? And music and pictures?
And they also say:
"Notice:
Normal Mode will not wipe any other data, dont worry!"
I'd better ask this before doing anything, Data =? Pictures, apps, music?
Thanks, if you need more info about my phone ask me.
Android 4.0.4
Build number: 6.1.A.2.45
No it will not erase your data, it will just give you root. And yes data = apps, music, pics, vids. . .

I have a few questions with regards to rooting my Xperia X10a running android 2.1.
1. I have already set up the phone to my liking (apps installed, settings, etc), if i root my phone will i lose all my apps and settings? Basically will it get factory reseted?
2. I have seen a video on youtube of a user rooting the xperia x10 with android 2.1 using super one click, does this method work and is it safe?
Thank You
1. Your settings, apps, and all your other stuff will remain the same, nothing on your phone will change, other than you will now have root access.
2. I've never personally used superoneclick, but I've heard good things. I myself have used Z4 root ( I forget if it's on the market ) and it worked like a charm and only took maybe 30 seconds.
Happy hunting!
P.S. Z4 root is also a "one click" root, very simple
Yes z4root 1.2.1 ist the best software for root
Woks fine an my x10.
yup work like a charm for me,, but one think, you need to install and app that need root,,, cause if you try to open 4zroot again to see if your have root, it maybe show the root button, that happen to me the first time i took a look on the app,, and of course i click again the root button,, and then i think about what i just read,, so i install barnacle tether and it show me that the app ask for root and then i was granted,, so i return to the 4zroot and the moment i open the app superuser message appears asking permission for 4zroot,, now it shows two buttons,, root and unroot.....
you migh try it it works like a charm on the xperia x10a
hope that helps you

Ok so Here is a link to Cyanogen Mod 7 which is a custom rom for all New xperia's imo probably the best custom rom out there. This will require you to have an unlocked boot loader on your phone.
Your second option is to root your device and remove the systems apps you dont like with titanium backup available off the android market.

1. Just use flashtool to flash a stock firmware for your handset. FlashTool
2. As for multiboot im not sure sorry.
3. You can use titanium backup and try, although its not garunteed to work.
4. If you are planning to flash cm7 it will be pre-rooted after the flash. all you need is unlocked boot loader.
Just have in mind that if you unlock your bootlocker (wich is essential if you are planing to put CM) you gonna lose your warranty.
About task manager, you can use Advanced task killer, who is avaliable at android market for free. There u can manage what process you want to leave running and wich one you want to be killed.
With rooted phone you can uninstall some of the system programs, just like Facebook
Here is the thread about unlocking:

So basically if i use this tool i want lose warranty as far as i dont touch bootlocker????
I downloaded some task managers of the market but when i kill apps they restart automaticaly.
One more question.
If i root it uninstall apps via titanium can i restore the apps by wipeing the phone???
THX
Yes, that is correct. You wont lose your warranty as long as you don't touch bootlocker. And with that tool I linked to you, you can easily root your phone and unroot it when ever you like (tested myself).
Some applications will always return back to process tree, simple as, thats how they work
For example, facebook is always in background to notify you about notifications and those things, even if you didn't set up an facebook account, he will always be in background.
That's stupid, I know, but that doesn't suck your battery or similar.
You can always restore all Google applications with ClockworkMod recovery.
Here's the link for CWM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1345741
And here is the link for google applications:
http://goo-inside.me/gapps/
Lets get rid of the stupid things.
First of all there is a data notification whenever you boot the phone.(how to pooooooof its gone)
second there is notification when i turn on gps that might be some internet trafic involved. (if i turn off data plan is there posibily some internet trafic going on) is it gps or only agps?
third i know this phone is storeing all data how do i read it any viewer?
Hi everyone. I am new here and a complete noob about android and I need a little help. I don't even know where to start.
First... I wanna tell you some information about my phone.
Model: Sony Ericsson Live (WT19i)
Android: 2.3.4
Build Number: 4.0.2.A.0.62
Hmm... What I wanted to do is make my phone fast and longer battery life... Please give me a list of apps that you suggest me to download, like Easy task killer, Easy battery saver, etc... Also give me the list of best apps you know for optimization... Less apps, much better (because I don't wanna have 2 task killers, 2 file managers, etc.).
I also wanted to upgrade my android to ICS(4.0.4), but I don't know how to do that.
One more thing is that I am still confused about the roms, kernels, rooting, firmwares, stock, CWM, etc... Can you please enlighten me about them. Like pros and cons.
Questions: (will update and bump if I added another)
1. If I install rom like for example MIUI will that upgrade my Android from 2.3.4 to somewhere?
Thanks!
@edit: Also, could you give me a step by step guide on making my phone better.
e.g.
1. download this
2. root
3. unlock your bootloader
4. do this and that
5. install this kernel
6. install this rom
7. download this app
8. do this and that
(please be more specific because I'm a real noob. Thanks!)
Just connect with your computer and pc companion says that an upgrade to ics is available... (depends on your country)

1. root is a must! There are alot of tutorials on how to do it. It comes to this: downgrade to .42 or .58 using flashtool, root using doomlords exploit, prepare it for ICS (with xperiaroot) - to insure you keep root on ICS, then upgrade to ICS with flashtool
2. once you're on ICS and with root access, only sky is the limit I would suggest you to install CWM recovery and back up your rom, just in case
3. once you back it up, feel free to remove all the unnecessary bloatware that is useless to you, but is running in the background and draining your power
4. install mods that makes access to switches (wifi, 3g, display brightness, gps...) very easy - Quickpanel statusbar
All tutorials can easily be found in general area, just take your time and go through them.
Dont use task killers, they dont work as well as they seem to... They kill your apps, and those same apps just restart (meanwhile using extra power for that) and they're back there again. Android can handle ram on it own, if it needs extra memory, it'll automatically kill unused apps.
I'm still waiting for my SI number to come up, and I'm starting to get a little impatient. I'm considering going ahead and using flashtool, but if I go to that much trouble, why not just go ahead and root?
Here is the reason for my question: I rooted my x10mp to upgrade to 2.2 since there weren't going to be any more official updates. That gave me some capabilities (like apps2sd) that weren't available on 2.1.
So, what can I gain by rooting my 2011 xmp?

are your phone x10 mini pro or xperia mini pro?
xmp is the one that getting ics not x10mp :silly:
btw to answer your root question. nothing really.
i only root just to use v6supercharger, market enabler to install some apps that cant be installed "this item cannot be installed in your country" (because i live outside US), titanium backup, and link2sd for moving apps/data/cache to sd. thats about it.
My old phone is the x10 minipro. My current phone is the 2011 minipro. Edited my first post for clarity, thanks.
dave
probably not
of course, this depends what you want to do with your phone... imho, if you have not decided to root your device for other reasons then it is not worth to root it for getting ICS: If you use stock ROM + a small amount of other apps and feel happy about it you probably don"t need root. ICS would give you a little icing on that gingerbread
IMO, definitely YES!
Definitely, it's worth!
Just root, no other mods, to just install some useful apps and achieve control over which you bought: your connections (droidwall...), your CPU and battery (cputuner...), backup (titanium...), adblocking (adaway...), autostart (autorun manager...), or just VIEW how is your system made (root explorer...).
I played with all of that stuff on my x10mp, but I don't really play with this phone as much. I forgot about adblock, though. That's a good enough reason to root for me. Thanks!
dave
Well
Well
You will be able to do a lot of things
u can remove unwanted system apps (i use AntTek app manager)
u can modify system files
u can use apps that needs root (like root browser ,market enablers ,etc)
if you find yourself in need to do any of the above
then root
otherwise don't
it doesn't make a lot of difference
specially if you are on ICS
Got my XMP rooted and flashed to ICS. Took me a couple of hours to do it, but part of that time was spent figuring out my antivirus software on the computer. Ran a repair with PCC and lost root, so I had to do it over again, which took me about 45 minutes. Thought I'd try to run a repair on SUS, but I was afraid I'd wipe out root again, so I skipped that step.
Got some root-only apps, reinstalled most of my old apps, did some housecleaning. Everything looks good and it seems to run just fine. Now I just need to do the same for my girlfriend's XMP.
Just a couple of things: I lost my calendar info with the upgrade, though I tried to back up everything. Also, I'm wondering about skipping the repair with SUS or PCC.

If you like to tinker with stuff then go for it.
Hi. I want to make you some questions about root.
01. Now i have the jelly bean nordic 4.1.2 "I9100XXMS2 / I9100XWLSS" with sales code nee and "PhilZ-cwm6-XWLSS-OXX-5.00.4-signed" installed to my phone.
02. Does the root affect the stability of any mobile phone?
03. If we install root to any mobile phone(Like samsung galaxy s2 i9100) can we un-root it WITHOUT loosing any data/options/settings?
04. How we can find out which root file it is better for our phones? What exactly we must look?
05. Does ALL rom versions has root files?
06. What exactly change the root files?
A LOT OF THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND YOUR ANSWERS.

1. Depends on what you do with root.
2. As far as I know. NO. ( have not tried )
3. Don't understand what your asking.
4. Whenever you flash a ROM it will. ( your phone must be unlocked it's not the same as root.
5. Nothing???
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
05. I don't thing it doesn't change anything at all to the mobiles with root files.
I believe it change importand files so we have admin access to the mobiles phones and not simple user access.
i believe if an root file don't create it well then we have unstability problems to any phone.
1) Read.
2) Read.
3) Read.
4) Read.
5) Read.
It's all there.
Now, root is to gain access to our devices, we can do this in various ways, depends on the ROM.
The only root that works ON EVERY ROM is Chainfire's EverRoot featured in Mobile Odin Pro app. Why? Because it roots the ROM during the flash.
Stability? Of course, as long as you don't use the rooted status to temper with the device (certain apps like Setcpu) in a dangerous way.
As this is a "state", it can be undone (unroot). Data, no harm.
I can see that you were thinking CF- root, stop it, CF-root stopped being THE root method on ICS. Since ICS you've got ExynosAbuse, custom kernels and CWM + BusyBox + SU recovery flash.

Read what and where?
And i DON'T have ics but jelly bean.
Is there any SAFE ROOT file for any jelly bean release?
And no i don't use the root from overclock the phone the only use of root is to make a complete backup WITH SETTINGS from the programs i want like wifi stored passwords and i CAN'T do that to a NO ROOT phone so the root files is one way road.
Do you have any to suggest any other program that DOESN'T NEED root to make a complete backup of programs with their settings?
Read the Stickies. Near the top of the General section. Like everyone else here.
Backup without root ? Search Google Play.
You're obviously in a tizz that rooting your phone is somehow harmful to the phone despite what people have told you to the contrary (I.E it isn't), so do yourself a favour & leave your phone as it is, you'll probably end up 'breaking' it.
Already have install the nordic 4.1.2 even it doesn't come in my country to unbranded mobiles galaxy s2 and already do root and i believe the reason for these restarts is the root file.
And another thing is if from any GENUINE 4.1.2 ROM when the mobile starts if it run the music app and it is running at the active app.
I ask that because at 4.0.3 it doesn't run any app with the power on mobile or at least doesn't appear at active apps widget.
No, no and no. Just factory reset.
And use comas man.
Sent from the little guy
To your 4.1.2 doesn't run any app when you power on the phone?
With original NOT CUSTOM 4.1.2 Nordic nee?
When I tell run app that has it at the widget active apps.
