hey, i've read a lot about this problem and tried all the possible fixes but nothing works
some weeks ago i got a new router but i'm not sure if this problem started when i put the new router (asus rt-n56u) on work because i also got a huuuuuge battery drain with sensation 4.1 (rom) and could never get back to the battery stats i got with alliance rom before.
after flashing many different roms and kernels (also with repartition in odin) nothing helped and so i decided to look up on xda again. i installed betterbatterystats and when i saw the results i was really happy because the problem could be narrowed down to wlan_rx_wake and wlan_wake. the solution that was given is to give the s2 a static ip. i did this (configurated the router and the network config in the s2) but unfortunatly it didn't help
now i'm completly stucked and dont know what else i could do. when i'm on wifi the battery drain is heavier than on data mode (3g,h+).
is there any solution without changing the router (i cant since i'm living with many other person in a house; fw is custom - 3.0.2.6-018) ??? problem is definitely the wifi connection and static ip didn't solve it :-S
i will add betterbatterystats screen later today.
no solutions ?
(screens will be added in the evening)
what didnt work:
- setting static ip in the router and also in smartphone
- disabling services in in windows
- reboot everything
- flashing different kernels/roms (ics and jb)
--> disabling wifi gets me back to normal battery behaviour but i need wifi.
okay, as what i know, wifi connection is somehow "kernel related" so if flashing another kernel does do any good to solve your problematic battery drain, then i must suggest you flash a stock ROM to get the hold of everything, do a factory reset and start from scratch, also calibrate your battery..
from there, you should do some mega-tweaking xD
as i've written before i tried many different rom-kernel combos (sammy based and aosp, ics and jb, stock and custom). there all have the same problem and from what i've read this problem is router related but all given solutions are not working.
so i need some other suggestion (and i cant change the router since there many other person in my house)
so seems like i found the problem but its not easy find the right settings, however, here is the important part :
The DTIM is how the AP (wireless router) warns its clients that it is about to transmit the multicast (and broadcast*) frames it queued up since the previous DTIM.
This queueing and scheduled delivery is done to allow power-conscious devices to save power by turning off their receivers for brief stretches of time, only waking up their receivers when the AP indicates is has traffic for them. This procedure is only performed if one or more of the currently-associated clients on the AP is in power-save mode. If no clients are in power save mode, the AP will transmit multicasts as soon as they come in.
The DTIM interval is essentially meaningless and can be safely ignored. A shorter DTIM interval could theoretically make your wireless devices use up their batteries faster, because they'd have to wake up more often for multicasts. A longer DTIM interval could theoretically hinder multicast performance on your network. But either way, it is extremely unlikely that you'll be able to notice any difference that the DTIM interval setting makes. You'd have to set up a special, sensitive test to look for any difference, and I'm still not sure you'd be able to reliably measure one.
*in 802.11, broadcasts are a subset of multicasts, so wherever I wrote "multicasts", you can read it as "multicasts or broadcasts".

source: http://superuser.com/questions/1762...m-do-and-can-it-increase-wireless-network-per
so you should try to raise the dtim interval if your router let you do this and see how it works.
note: too low - battery drain could be extremly high ; too high - you connection could be really unstable (keeps connected but you cant access internet with any app)

Hi all,
The Wifi on my SGSII is constantly scanning even though it is connected to my home wifi network (a WPA/WPA2 PSK secured connection on a G band router). The signal strength is "excellent" and I have the phone sitting right next to the router. Further, I have network notification turned off ( unchecked) and under advanced settings, my Wifi sleep Policy is set to "never".
Sprint users have reported exactly the same problem on the Epic Touch 4G" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1272226 ). Has anyone else been experiencing the same issue on their ATT SGS2 ? I would be very grateful if someone could post a solution for this issue.
Thanks in advance

Scan rate is bumped up significantly when you're in the settings menu.
Have you confirmed via logcat that it's scanning frequently outside of the settings menu? It shouldn't be in that case - but without logcat it's almost impossible to tell.

Entropy,
What should I be looking for in logcat? I have Betterbattery stats installed and according to that, Wifi scan time is 8+ hours even though Wifi on time is only 2+ hours. That doesn't seem to make sense, but what do I know.
I am running UnNamed 1.3.1.

I believe BBS is reporting scan time improperly. I've seen that in a few threads.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk
You're probably right, except now scan time doesn't even show.
I have also observed this on my phone.
I have a Samsung Galaxy IIs, using a Sony Ericsson MW600 BT handsfree as well as a Pioneer car Bluetooth handsfree system.
I have not measured anything yet, but I notice that when the Wi-Fi scanning is going on, I get significant disturbances on both of my Bluetooth hands-free sets. Listening to music is without a hitch, but talking on the phone (Norwegian GSM - operator Telenor) is terrible.
i also noted this after installing the OTA update to 2.3.6 today. I just rooted mine yesterday after reading 54+ pages to make sure i understood everything. i had a cappy and loved installing new roms but have not taken the plunge yet on the sgs ii. I haven't noticed a huge difference in battery yet, but it has only been a couple of hours since the update.
What ROM are you running? You can edit the build.prop to change how often it looks for networks. It is the line "wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=xx". I set mine to 180 which is 3 minutes, some ROM's set it really low. Also the scan rate is bumped up significantly when you're in the settings menu like Entrophy said.
Hi,
I had the same problem where my WIFI was fluctuating.... I dont know if this is the problem/ solution but this is what happened...
My SGS 2 is already rooted and unlocked. I had flashed the Entrophy DD 12/23 first then I had flashed Unnamed Custom ROM. After rebooting the phone, I saw the Wifi was not stable. So I again did a "Wipe Factory Data Reset" and "Wipe Cache Partition" and then installed the Unnamed Custom ROM from the SD Card. My Wifi is pretty stable now.
I am not sure if you guys had this issue when flashing a ROM but this seemed to fix it.

I have written about this wifi-battery drain a while back here in XDA.
When I used to have my Nokia symbian cell phone I used to flash custom roms
and there were a lot of nice new features after flashing.
A couple of the really nice battery saving mods were:
#1: added option to change the amount of wifi milliwatt output from 18 milliwatts (default) to 3 milliwatts
which is more than enough if the phone is no more than 20-25 feet from the wireless router.
(the mod gave the option of 3mw,6mw,12mw & 18mw)
Saves a lot of battery life.
Don't know why none of the DEVS have addressed this issue yet.
#2: added a mod so once the wifi establishes a connection it no longer scans
at all unless the connection is disconnected or lost.
So in other words, the phone only scans for wifi until it connects.
Right now I am connected to wifi with my phone and yet in settings it displays "scanning"
non-stop-constantly even though in wifi settings it displays "connected".
Why should the phone be scanning for wifi if it's already connected? (I have no idea).
Don't know why none of the DEVS have addressed this issue yet either.
Both of these mods really made a noticable difference in battery life
for for me since I do use the wifi feature in my phone a lot.
Hopefully one of the DEVS can look into these issues soon.
Now someone mentioned wifi constant scan, I noticed mine is doing the same thing. I leave the wifi setting screen on, it re-scans every 3 seconds!

Power control - Not likely, unless there is some documented power control already in the driver it's not going to happen. We're in a bad enough state as it is trying to make the chip not fire interrupts at 1 Hz on the Infuse.
Broadcom is one of the least open source friendly chipset manufacturers on the planet - their drivers have NO comments or documentation whatsoever, and datasheets are not available.
The rescan stuff is probably only addressable on Cyanogenmod, messing with it would require source code for the userland wifi management stuff.

As stated earlier in this thread - this is by design. It is assumed that if you're in the settings screen you want to change networks and have an up-to-date list.
I also am having this problem. I am running the rooted UKK6 from entropy512. After turning on my wifi, my battery drained from 90% to 70% in 5 hours with no use. My android OS is running at 80-90%. I don't have any extra apps except for 3g watchdog and CPUSpy and BBS. I do have Go launcher and GoSMS installed. As soon as I turn wifi off, i can see my battery level off under settings. I have searched for the last 2 days for a "fix". no luck.

Try doing a clean flash using "wipe data/factory reset" in CWM
recovery and then see if the phone has normal battery drainage.
(which it will if you flash the UnNamed v2.2.1 custom rom)
Then install one app at a time so you can find out exactly which
app is the culprit that causes your excessive battery drain.
This is the best way to trouble shoot battery drainage issues.
You will see that your battery drainage issue is not caused by
the custom rom, but it is caused by a few apps which are just
not very battery friendly.
The UnNamed v2.2.1 rom is the best custom rom currently
available for our i777 phones and it has outstanding battery life.
Good Luck!

This has nothing to do with this thread - This thread is talking about wifi scanning.
Drain problems - read my known battery drainers thread. A lot of people are having problems, there is no fix, and there won't be until all the people complaining start actually collecting some data.
Has anyone hit an issue whereby battery drain is high on a particular wifi network.
In my case this is a busy (1000s systems in subnet) corporate wlan running EAP-TLS. Many access points.
At home (using speedmod and siyah kernels) battery life is excellent.
But in the office when this occurs battery drain occurs at a similar rate to web browsing. System is not sleeping as much as usual, and it's not all 200 Mhz running either.
Not yet been able to pin down the behaviour, though it occurs with pretty much all user application processes killed (frozen). Disabling wlan puts usage back to normal, re-enabling wlan hits the issue again. going home (no reboot) and onto my home wlan results in normal battery again with high % sleep.
I'm guessing it relates to traffic on the wlan - maybe lots of broadcasts, maybe re-authentication issues.
So has anyone found issues with battery drain in busy WLANs?
Running rom KJ3
May have to get into tracing/wireshark etc to figure this one out...
Baseband: I9100XXLPW
Build: IML74K.XWLPD
I saw some similar topics, but they either didn't fully cover my problem or necroing them would not help. If I missed a more suitable topic, please direct me to that one, my searches might have missed it.
Anyway, on this telephone at home I get between 1d-2d of battery life using WiFi, depending on what I do with it. My router at home is an old Linksys WRT54G running DD-WRT.
I also had no problems at work for a while, but since a few weeks whenever I connect to the WiFi here, which are Ciscos, my wireless icon in the notification bar has the download arrow (orange) almost constantly lit. This doesn't happen when just using 3G, only when I switch on wireless. Consequently the phone never enters deep sleep and the battery is drained at the end of day.
How can I best track down what is keeping the download side of my WiFi lit up? I've tried various tools, but they are all very, very generic in that they only seem to log aggregate data used over WiFi, yet no application exists, that I know of, that shows me which application or service is pulling data at the moment over WiFi.
Is it even an application that's causing this? I mean, given I have no problems at home with excessive drain and wireless, can it simply be something changed at work with regard to wireless that's causing it?
Since you're at home anyway, just plug it in.
You don't mention what tools you allegedly found, so:

How do you mean? When I am at home I do not have these issues at all, the WiFi is behaving as it should and no excessive drain happens.

I knew I forgot to mention something:
I use Wifi Analyzer to check the various SSIDs on the channels.
For the battery information I tried, in the past, Watchdog Lite, Spare Parts Plus!, Data Traffic Monitor, Traffic Monitor, and Network Counter.
Guess I should just buy BetterBatteryStats and see if adds anything. And I missed that WireShark port! Now to see about rooting my phone to make use of it.
Edit: BetterBatteryStats confirms that using WiFi at home and 3G on the road has no kernel wakelocks. Just using WiFi at the office for a few minutes already shows 2m of wlan_rx_wake/wlan_wake, just like the icon showed it was doing. So next is rooting and sniffing to see just what's going on.
Hey guys,
On my second samsung device and my fifth rom (including eclipse TW, eclipse AOSP, aokp, CM10, now hyperdrive). Have to say thay I'm satisfied with pretty much everything Hyperdrive has to offer, its freaking amazing! One issue doesn't seem to be resolving despite many attempts. My phone stays awake nearly 100% of the time with a wlan_wake wakelock. This isnt the well documented wlan_rx_wake wakelock, which I've also had in the past but managed to squash. I'll recount my findings in some order below.
I installed Hyperdrive, restored some some vital apps. Waited a couple days and found the battery wasn't what I'd hoped it'd be. I usually run with auto sync enabled for total 8 mins per hour (via Tasker) and wifi and mobile data on. I've also used a script that disables IPv6 whenever it connects to a wifi network -- work network has tons of IPv6 broadcasts that were triggering massive wlan_rx_wake wakelocks which were vastly reduced with this fix. Even with these throttles, I noticed that some time after boot (10-15 minutes) on my work as well as home network (10 mixed devices on a belkin router), a wlan_wake wakelock would start triggering and my phone would then stay awake 90-100% of the time, screen on or off.
I went ahead factory reset the phone, loaded just my google account, and found the same problem with autosync on, autosync off, GPS was off, Wifi "always allow scanning" option was disabled in the advanced menu, Google's Wifi network location was disabled, and no 3rd party apps except for BBS installed. Of course, with Wifi disabled, the issue abated but 3g/4g doesn't offer much better battery life than the phone staying awake the whole time. During this time, I used Network Logger and Shark for Root to attempt to identify Wifi traffic and found that a few apps were transmitting frequently, but not enough to keep the phone awake for the amount of time the wakelock indicated. Total battery drain is up to 8-10%/hour with absolutely minimal use. I've never had this particular issue with any other OS i've installed, any ideas what could be going on? Really looking forward to being able to rip through days without charging on Hyperdrive!
I have a Samsung Note 3 and I too have this same problem (except that a factory reset solves it). Can't seem to find a fix. People on internet suggest that it's because of some rogue app but my phone starts behaving like this randomly until I do a factory reset.

There are quite a few threads on this already including what I wrote (pasted below).
<<<<
I had two types of standby battery drain - mobile data and wifi. I have fixed both of them through lots of trial and error. From my testing and looking on XDA at similar experiences of people on other phones, these are bugs in Android rather than anything Elephone can fix through updates (I'm on the latest 20160419 update).
I fixed the mobile data problem by creating Tasker profiles to keep the phone on 2G whilst it's connected to wifi. I can't post links yet but a search on XDA/Google will find you these profiles. Maintaining a 4G connection is unnecessary whilst on wifi, besides, some people have problems receiving calls on this phone whilst on 4G. If the phone is not connected to wifi (rare in London because it's everywhere even on public transport) 4G comes on. Best of both worlds.
The wifi drain solution sounds counterintuitive but it is simply to set it to 'always on'. With both of these measures, my standby drain has been 1% overnight for the last two nights and roughly 0.25%/hour during the day. Standby drain on 4G whilst moving around London with location on at least quadruples battery drain to around 1-2%/hour.
Some of my other settings will have an impact too. I find the auto-brightness calibration of the P9000 poor, so adjust brightness manually (which also saves battery life). NFC, bluetooth, etc. I only turn on when needed. I use Greenify and have all apps Greenified except Tasker, Textra, and Hangouts. I haven't Greenified any system apps except Google Maps. Location is always on but mostly device only (again counterintuitive, you'd expect it to be 'battery saving') unless I am moving around in which case I have a Tasker profile to automatically switch it to 'high accuracy'.
I tried to get Xposed working so that I could use Amplify too (see my other post) but that didn't work. Since I'm very happy with battery life now that's not that important anymore though it would be nice for the further tweaks it makes possible.
There are too many other variables to list and everybody's phone is set up differently. However, hopefully using some of the main big gains I've listed above you can fix your wifi drain specifically and improve standby drain generally.
Well, it's somewhat problably what keeps the phone awake, this occurs after factory reset, i already did the Tricks you've listed and on screen Features and so on are all off, there are no Apps who should keep the phone awake Cause it's happening Straight after factory reset so there are no other Apps..

Finger print sensor or DT2W for sure. Disable them
On the latest ROMs it is the finger print sensor. Turn it off or go back to 20160810
