Hey members. Just wanted to know what apps you guys are using to backup and restore your text messages, I'm flashing roms more lately and I'm tired of loosing my texts.
Gobackup, straight forward and simple

titanium backup for me
sms backup and restore, works great. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...mNvbS5yaXRlc2hzYWh1LlNNU0JhY2t1cFJlc3RvcmUiXQ..
sms backup+
restores date and order, which i don't think any of the above do. but it does take a long time, be forewarned.
titanium keeps them in order
really? it's never worked that way for me, which is why i always go back to sms backup+
so it keeps everything dated and ordered correctly?
I've always used MyBackup Root for my apps+data / sms and mms.

The app that was mentioned is good, but you can also use GOSMS, I personally prefer it to the out of the box sms but its all just personal preference
SMS Backup+
it will back up your text and media messages to your GMAIL....
I use SMS Backup+ to backup to my GMail account and Go SMS Pro to backup to my Ext. SD card so I can restore them after flashing a new ROM.
SMS Backup And Restore worked great! It took all of about a minute to do too. Thanks so much!
I use My Back up Root
So, noticed that when I only "Backup all user apps" in TiBu, my text messages don't get saved. Understandable, as this is likely system data. I looked around in TiBu and found "Phone/Messaging Storage 4.0.4-91f513f88d (SMS/MMS/APN)." Am I correct to assume that this is my text message data? If so, is it cool to restore this, even if I flash a 4.2 ROM (I'm asking because the data has 4.0.4 in the title).
Thanks.
I would just use the Messages one in TiBu. It backs it up to an XML format which I think may be safer to restore than restoring system data for the phone/messaging storage .
I should also mention, I have never tested that option out though.

Thanks! I didn't even know that option existed before you mentioned it. It took me a second to find, but I got it. Good stuff.
I would highly recommend using another program, such as SMS Backup and Restore by Ritesh Sahu to make an extra backup as I have had timestamp issues with TiBu with large numbers of texts, it restores the conversations correctly but timestamps them as of the time of restore, not when message was sent or received so it looks like all conversations had their last message sent/received at the same time.

Hello hello,
I updated my Note 3 on ATT via the OTA update to 4.4.2. I did the factory data reset. I restored my sms via the SMS backup and restore app. All the messages are here but the app seems to be working slow and laggy. The SMS Backup+ did not really work. What are my other options?
Thanks!
How many text messages did you restore? Did you test before and after you restored the messages? But seems like you have a couple choices, 1 - try it without restoring the messages. If you have 1000s, that could be why. 2 - try a 3rd party SMS app and see if the problem exists there or just stock.
Thanks for the response. SMS backup+ says I have 14000 items. The app works great before the backup.
I am a little disappointed with Android right now. iTunes was restoring everything to exactly where I left off. I surprised Android does not have a working sms restore function. Kies does not even offer it. How about manually copying the sms database file that I saved.
I guess I still have to try a 3rd party app but I prefer the stock one.
Cheers.

That amount of text messages will make many things lag (and take FOREVER to restore). But there are quite a few different ways to back up and restore texts so I guess Android doesn't think it's necessary to include it? I backup and restore texts all the time as I am a serial flasher and never have issues like that, but I also don't have any reason to keep 1000s of texts messages on my phone.
hello all
i have been using MyBackup Pro to backup and restore my SMS messages. But after restoring them, the stock sms app (slimsaber, rootbox, resurrection remix) always shows the restoration time as the time of the last message of each thread.
but only in the list view.
so when i open the sms app, i see all the threads with the different people, but they are unsorted because tge timestamp shows the restoration time.
when i open a thread, all messages show the correct time for sent and received.
MyBackup support claims that this should be fixed by the SMS app when opening the threads. the time should be reapplied and everything sorted correctly. this is, however, not the case.
does anybody know a fix or know an sms app that will correctly sort the messages again?
thank you all
alex

anybody?
Use the XML backup/restore feature in TiBu Pro.

Try the method MistahBungle suggests and it's work. Just restore from MyBackup Pro first, then backup data to XML and restore data to XML in Titanium Backup Pro. Timestamps on all threads are correct now.
i tried Titanium Backup.
But for some reason it always leaves between one and three threads unsorted. They have the time of restore.
But which is completely random. I have restored the sms/mms messages 8 times now and each time a different set of threads has the wron timestamp and is placed at the top of the list.
of course each time using the same backup.
i also tried two other backups and they had the same result.
is there a trick to it?
i deleted the db files. rebooted. restored. rebooted. opened sms app.
each restoring takes about 30min (15500 messages)
How I could save the messages in my sd card? Because I don't see that option.I'm using the stock messages.
I use Super Backup. Easy to backup & restore SMS.
Update: I guess it does backup and restore MMS as well. I just restored some of my messages with it.
If you're interested, here is a link. It is available in the Play Store and the app is free.
