Saving Texts in TiBu - AT&T LG Optimus G

So, noticed that when I only "Backup all user apps" in TiBu, my text messages don't get saved. Understandable, as this is likely system data. I looked around in TiBu and found "Phone/Messaging Storage 4.0.4-91f513f88d (SMS/MMS/APN)." Am I correct to assume that this is my text message data? If so, is it cool to restore this, even if I flash a 4.2 ROM (I'm asking because the data has 4.0.4 in the title).
Thanks.

I would just use the Messages one in TiBu. It backs it up to an XML format which I think may be safer to restore than restoring system data for the phone/messaging storage .
I should also mention, I have never tested that option out though.

Thanks! I didn't even know that option existed before you mentioned it. It took me a second to find, but I got it. Good stuff.

I would highly recommend using another program, such as SMS Backup and Restore by Ritesh Sahu to make an extra backup as I have had timestamp issues with TiBu with large numbers of texts, it restores the conversations correctly but timestamps them as of the time of restore, not when message was sent or received so it looks like all conversations had their last message sent/received at the same time.

Re-organizing SMS/Text messages, and backup utlities

I used PIM Backup to backp my text messages, but it is ridiculously outdated at this point and development seems to have stopped forever ago... and appears to have a major flaw, it doesn't save threaded messages.
Whenever I do a restore, not only does my pone remain unresponsive for practically a day after the restore finishes as it gets it's bearings.... but the messages only show my side of the conversation, even though it appears to have restored both sides (I think their responses come before the very first reply of mine).
So first of all before I even find a better backup tool, I first need a way to re-organize and re-thread my messages. Is there any way to do this?
And of course, what (preferably free) backup tool would you recommend? Since I am experimenting with different roms, I just want my contacts, call logs, text logs, etc to be backed up, not my settings or apps or anything like that.
resco backup, but it's not free
use Microsoft Myphone. It's free, it's easy, it's auto-scheduled, viewable from the internet using any web browser, works on any wm phone and works great even if you're using a ROM.
Well, first of all I want to know if there is any way to fix this unthreaded messages issue.
And doesn't MyPhone just sync contacts and e-mails? I want all my of call and text logs saved too.
myphone syncs text messages.
can also backup mydocument folder and others as well.
I have been using it since it came out.
Works great. My syncs every morning at 4am.

Is there any way to backup text messages before flash?

^^^ Question in title. ROM is stock.

This, never failed me.
Doesn't backup pictures though, its a little annoying if your convo is about a picture and you can't see it.

SMS Backup+
integrates with GMAIL...backs up MMS to GMAIL, and you can use Tasker with it....
i have tasker set to perform an automatic backup of the latest messages every time i exit the messaging app.....
its beautiful. all my SMS/MMS are filed away nice and neat in my GMAIL for use later.....
I use Handcent, which has an integrated backup.
I used to use SMSBackup+, until it became cumbersome to backup 2000+ text messages online via EDGE (unfortunately I don't have 3g/"4g" or wifi most of the time. Then I remembered that I once invested in MyBackup Pro (~$5, I think). It backs up apps, data, photos, texts, and just about everything else. It gives the option to backup online or on your SD card. It works pretty well in my experience.
But if you have good wifi/data connection, SMSBackup+ is a great option as well.

Yea I haven't got around doing it that way, but I would love a way to restore it back in the convo.
I have 2 main backups which still has it in case I ever find a way.

I have 10k+ messages, cause I kept a couple thousand I brought from my old phone. So uploading all that is a little annoying, but I shall do it eventually.
I use both of Ritesh Sahu's backup apps (Call Logs and SMS) - they're great. Backup to gmail is nice, other than the time it takes.

If you do it as they come in or set it to run at night during off time on wifi it doesn't take long. Smsbackup+ will also backup call logs. I have mine putting them on my Google calendar to keep track of my customer calls.

I use GoSMS Pro for my sms messaging and found that it has a pretty good backup and restore function in it. You can schedule a backup for every day if you like also.
I just use Titanium. Works fine, it's just difficult to tell which backup file specifically holds the SMS data -- just filter for SMS and do a restore.

[Q] SMS Backup & Restore

Hey folks.
I recently discovered a great app named "SMS Backup & Restore" which I now happen to be the owner of the PRO version. Things is, that the backup works fine, but upon restoring, messages seem to get restore the wrong order - most of the messages are in the same thread, but completely mixed up. And I don't miss a few, I miss a lot.
The FAQ of the developer says that osme SMS cannot be backed up nor restored since it currently does not support MMS messages. But I'm extremely sure that most messages are just SMS. Did such happen to any of you, too? How to resolve this? And could that be dou to the use of GoSMS Pro which I use as my phone messaging app?
Any help is very much appreciated.

That is the only app I use for sms backup & restore since I have android phone. Never had any problems, except when on restore, threads (not messages) are not sorted in order in which I backed them up. Ofc, I just sort them by "most recent" in messages app. I used Handcent sometimes, but never had problems with dissapearing messages. Backup app and messaging app use xml, which is stored on phone, so I don't think it matters which one messaging app you use.

Thanks for helping, PROleev. Is there a way to clean up the XML-File I have? It contains multiple messages and upon restoring, it does not delete the duplicates although I enabled the option in the program. Furthermore, it seems that it saved messages with the completely wrong time. Therefore, restoring the messages results in a mess I don't know how to resolve.. except for to delete everything.

You're welcome.
Here is the app for duplicate messages, and it should help you (I didn't try it, but users say that it does its job). It is slow if you have a couple of thousands messages. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10377014&postcount=1
I have to make a correction..mesagge applications read from data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db (database file), but they save messages as .xml which you can open in any xml viewer or MS Excel..

[Q] Droid 4 SMS Messages - No Date?

So I've been having this weird problem since I got my phone.
I notice that basically any text messages I restore from a backup program, whether it's SMS Backup/Restore, MyBackup, Titanium Backup, Handcent SMS, etc etc - the date always shows the current date and not the original message date.
This is kind-of a problem, since my messages have occasionally wiped themselves out leaving me only stuck with the backups.
So I took the .db file from the /data folder (I actually got the exact location from this forum), and tried opening it with a SQLite editor on my PC. Surely enough, the date column was "0" for every single message.
Is there a particular reason why this is? And how does the phone even store the dates you send/receive messages if they aren't stored with the SMS's themselves? I need some way to back up and restore my messages that will preserve the dates - right now literally the only option is a complete nandroid backup, which is a real pain.

Wrong timestamps after restoring SMS/MMS

hello all
i have been using MyBackup Pro to backup and restore my SMS messages. But after restoring them, the stock sms app (slimsaber, rootbox, resurrection remix) always shows the restoration time as the time of the last message of each thread.
but only in the list view.
so when i open the sms app, i see all the threads with the different people, but they are unsorted because tge timestamp shows the restoration time.
when i open a thread, all messages show the correct time for sent and received.
MyBackup support claims that this should be fixed by the SMS app when opening the threads. the time should be reapplied and everything sorted correctly. this is, however, not the case.
does anybody know a fix or know an sms app that will correctly sort the messages again?
thank you all
alex

Try the method MistahBungle suggests and it's work. Just restore from MyBackup Pro first, then backup data to XML and restore data to XML in Titanium Backup Pro. Timestamps on all threads are correct now.
i tried Titanium Backup.
But for some reason it always leaves between one and three threads unsorted. They have the time of restore.
But which is completely random. I have restored the sms/mms messages 8 times now and each time a different set of threads has the wron timestamp and is placed at the top of the list.
of course each time using the same backup.
i also tried two other backups and they had the same result.
is there a trick to it?
i deleted the db files. rebooted. restored. rebooted. opened sms app.
each restoring takes about 30min (15500 messages)
