well, okay first of all.. i think your phone is ROOTED that's why you cannot receive any firmware updates and you cannot connect to Kies.
so what you need to do is to download a firmware over at sammobile.com and then unzip the file, you will then get a .tar file.. you then use odin. connect your phone while it is on download mode and check if odin recognizes your phone. in PDA, click on the .tar that you had from the extraction then click on start.
your flash via odin may be a result from an incomplete download.
cheers

Hey Guys thanks for the reply... I am not sure what firmware to donwload... I am located in latin america Costa Rica, Carrier ICE... I just need an unlocked phone. I am able to get in to Download. And I also try to download the original stock firmware but when I put it in PDA I get an FAIL. I am not sure if its the correct firmware... can Someone please help me with that I really appreciate all of the help! Really!
Also when I go to Kievs and type update the firwmare I put the serial number and the model and I accept the agreement and then I get a pop message, saying something in Japan or chinese I dont know what it says but I soon as I click ok... it closes the update
Bump!
On connecting your phone to KIES, does it install the phone drivers?
Also, ensure you're installing a firmware for your own device. ie. not installing i9100G firmware on an international i9100 /P/M/T. or vice versa.
Next make sure your phone has adequate charge before going into download mode. Even if its soft-bricked, it will still charge.
Also, connect your phone to a USB port directly on the computer. Not via a hub or a USB port on your keyboard or something.

If u want to use Odin than uninstall kies is a must as its tsr program will interrupt Odin processes. U just need to download correct & match firmware from samsung-updates.com or sammobile.com, then repeat the flashing but just use Odin v1.85 as its most compatible w/ s2. Don't tick anything else from Odin before click start button except auto reboot, one packages & PDA section (browse ur firmware file). & Odin doesn't care if ur phone rooted or unrooted. It will does a full wipe if u flash a f/w by Odin, so rooted phone will lost its root.

If all else fails follow this guide EXACTLY. Check make and model on sticker under the battery. All the best. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458

I have never rooted my phone, always used official updates. Upgraded to Android 4.1.1 last night and after few hours my phone just stuck wiht the "Samsung Galaxy S3 startup logo". The phone wont reboot at all. I tryed to factory reset (volume up + home + power), wont work.. one time it tryed to do something and failed. I can boot to odin download menu and i tryed to reset to official stock firmare and it says something about partition corrupted or broken. After that i tryed again with the new partition option, it failed again. Is there anything i can do to get this phone working again?

Send it back for repair if you've never routed or anything. It can likely be fixed by routing and whatnot but if you've never done it, why risk it.

Send it for repairs and wait for several weeks to get it back? Very tempting. :cyclops: Lets call that plan B.
If i can do something to wake this baby up today or tomorrow i'll take it.
It sounds like you somehow softbricked your phone without even rooting it lol.
Anyway, if you can go into ODIN download mode, you might wanna try rooting the phone to see if it works. Cos once the phone's rooted, you can easily flash a stock ROM to save it. If you're worried about voiding the warranty, you can unroot the phone after everything's done.
Instructions for unrooting: http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-unroot/how-to-unroot-galaxy-s3-i9300/
Hope this helps!

I did try that and it did not work. Maybe i did something wrong? Dont know... Im pretty sure the problem is with broken partition. I had the Auto Reboot, Re-Partition and F. Reset Time checked. Got file for PIT and got file for PDA. It just wont work. Odin says every time FAILED!
Do not use pit or repartition unless you know what you are doing.

NEVER CHECK RE-PARTITION trololololo .... and never use PIT unless you are know what you doing.
Wow! These "never use PIT unless you are know what you doing"-comments are really helpful. Thank you guys! :good:
Follow the instructions on this site:
http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s3/
The site tells you how to root a phone (look at the picture to see what you need/don't need to check; usually all you need to check is Auto-Reboot and nothing else)
After the phone's rooted you can download a ROM from this site http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9300 and flash it into the phone using the same method you flashed the file to root your phone
Thanks for the help. Odin says: "There is no PIT partition" and FAILS.
So i NEED to Re-Partition, any help would be appreciated.

Same thing for me, and I'm stuck with this problem for 2 months now!!!
I read that for some reason unknown, some S3 got these fuc*** motherboards!!!
If u can solve this without samsung service center, please post!!!:good:
Of course you can manage it without Samsng Service center, if you want.
The procedure is:
1. download to PC the I9300 Service Manual;
2. buy motherboard;
3. replace it by yourself.
I was using the MIUI rom and I sold the phone. To deliver to the buyer I decided to go back to the stock rom but forgot to wipe and now I have the following situation:
- I can only get into download mode
- Odin recognizes the phone
- I tried to repartition the Odin reported successful operation (my model is 16gb)
- Tried to put other roms on the phone including those downloaded from the site sammobile, selecting only auto-reboot and f.reset.time
- With these steps could only get stuck in "nand write start ..."
- Tried installing kies but do not believe it can be something with the drivers because the odin recognizes the phone.
I read many posts but after two days decedi post to see if anyone would help me solve this issue
I'll be waiting for directions on how to proceed without worsening the scenario.

Just throwing out ideas here; otherwise I'm not sure.

One thing I noticed is that the progress bar on the phone at the "downloading mode screen" runs quickly, and then it stops at nand write start.

I have the exact same problem you have. Intl i9300, cannot enter recovery, only download mode. Flashing 16gb pit file works ok, however attempting to flash Stock rom gets stuck at Nand Write Start. Not sure what to do now, I guess I'll wait for responses here as well.
RePartition .
Fail Nand write .
Assuming you have read and are following the basics re an Odin flash ( if not go and read them ) .
This sounds in both cases like a damaged Nand >>> service centre job .

I've not done much to my S3. Trouble started when I decided to install an OTA of Foxhound 1.8. Installation completed successfully but during the application upgrade (...you know the first boot message of 'Android is updating x of 365 apps). It froze and stuck there for like 15min so I decided to reboot it and all hell broke loose.
Started with 'Foxhound cannot mount recovery command..' etc. Which made me decide to flash my 16gb pit file, and since then all attempts to flash back to stock stall at 'Nand write start'.
I have backups of everything, even my efs. Problem is I can't even get to recovery to restore anything.
I'll keep trying I guess, worst case I'll just return it back to Samsung.
pull usb devices except s3 and be sure to have correct drivers then try again. you may even try it on another pc of course with installing drivers. if none of them works try flashing a kernel or recovery if it flashes then try to flash stock rom.if stucks again at nand write there may be a problem at emmc sect. but dont worry just do what i said if it fails there should be a solution
if you can enter the recovery mode u should be happy
to kamau can u send me the pit file you flashed thanks

There it is. I"m now working on resetting the flash counter from odin since I obviously can't install triangle away in preparation of returning it to samsung.
Hi,
In january I upgarded from 4.1.2 to 4.3 via Kies.
it was OK but as you know this upgrade brings issue with the battery, and a lot of lags.
So I downgraded via ODIN.
The first time it was OK, but I realized I downgraded to 4.1.1 instead of 4.1.2.
So I downloaded the official ROM in 4.1.2, I don't know what happened but it failed, and now I see "unsupported version" displayed in the downloading mode.
When I try to reboot, I see:
"Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in kies..."
but Kies does not recognize anymore my mobile phone!
i don't have access anymore to the recovery mode (VOLUME UP+..), only the download mode (VOLUME DOWN...)
Note that I have tried:
1) with 2 different USB cables
2) 3 different PCs
3) 2 versions of ODIN (3.04 then 1.85)
4) I9305XXBME3_I9305XEFBMG2_I9305XXBME1_HOME.tar
5) I9305XXBME3_I9305BOGBME1_I9305XXBME1_HOME.tar
6) I9305XXBMB3_I9305BOGBMA1_I9305XXBMA2_HOME.tar

that's strange, I was able to recover my phone by deploying this ROM from sammobile
I9305XXUEMKC_I9305BOGEMJ1
I's 4.3.
So other ROMs (4.1.1 and 4.1.2) fail with ODIN, while I was able to download at least one of them 2 days ago. No idea why a ROM is working one day, and not another day...
The best thing is I do not see the lag anymore, nor the issue with the battery!!
While this is a known issue with 4.3 and S3.
I will wait few days to be sure all issues are fixed, if it is the case no need anymore to downgrade to 4.1.2.
thanks,
Rod
Hi Guys, I've been going through these forums for days and have tried so many things, but I still can't un-brick this phone, I'm pretty sure its a soft brick, because I can still get into download mode, but if I try to start the phone normally, I just get a white screen now when I enter download mode, it says "downloading do not turn off target" now when I plug it into the pc, odin sees it ok, but I have tried uploading new stock firmware, its my friends phone, and as far as I know its not rooted, now when I tried flashing a new stock firmware, it failed becase of something to do with the partition, so I read through these forums and found a thread about uploading a new pit file, which I did, and that failed as well, so I need hepl please guys, how screwed is this phone?? its an international Galaxy S3 i9300 on O2

right, Blackstard, its my friends phone, and something happened while it was doing a firmware update, not sure what, eith got turned off just got stuck I think, she was probably to impatient to let it finish

Right Boomboomer, I have tried the recovery firmwares, there were two of them and I tried them both, but it just fails at the pit file and says it cant format the partition, is this the end? or is there anything else I can try?

Sounds like the emmc chip is damaged.
If you can get a z3x box there is a thread which describes how to resurrect a corrupt chip:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/epairsamsung-s3-i9300-note2-n7100-dead-t2647558
But even that won't help a dead emmc chip.
Hi everyone,
My head is spinning from what's just happened. My phone mysteriously decided to crash on me after being a little slow and unresponsive recently. I'm running CM11 M5 on my phone, I found this is the most stable of the roms for me. The unusual thing about this crash was that it rebooted with a fuzzy, static-like screen, so I tried to reboot into the Cyanogen bootloader thingy and it just brings up the crash screen. I tried to reboot into Odin Mode, hooked up the phone to my computer and tried to reinstall a new ROM. First I tried with Odin 3.07 with a ROM I loaded onto it last month (I9300XXUGNA5_I9300AUTGNA1_I9300XXUGMK6_HOME.tar.md5), but the Odin program on the computer crashes each time. I also tried with an updated version of Odin, v1.85 and also Odin Auto. I had an issue last month, looked around and fixed it by downloading this ROM just mentioned, but this time, no joy. I've tried with another that I just downloaded (root66_TMO_T999UVDLJA.tar.md5) and the same thing happens. At one point, I received a message on different attempts where the Odin program would spit back at me this:

So, how do I proceed from this point? I don't know enough to understand what the problem is with this, maybe something to do with the PIT mapping? I feel like I've covered every possible avenue that I can see posted online, I'm really not sure if there is anyone else with this problem, where the Odin program is so volatile. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated, I suffer without my phone.

<ID:0/004> Added!!
<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> root66_TMO_T999UVDLJA.tar.md5 is valid.
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
<OSM> Leave CS..
<ID:0/004> Odin v.3 engine (ID:4)..
<ID:0/004> File analysis..
<ID:0/004> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/004> Initialzation..
<ID:0/004> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/004>
<ID:0/004> There is no PIT partition.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1

Try the above rescue firmware as suggested above make sure you know what you are doing before flashing.. Exactly same advice if that doesn't work service required partition corrupt..Also I noticed the op above also flashed wrong root file for I9300 which didn't help.

Hardware issue, either damaged or corrupt emmc chip.

Yeah, that was a desperate attempt at trying another root file which was recommended in another post. I initially used:
I9300XXUGNA5_I9300AUTGNA1_I9300XXUGMK6_HOME.tar.md5
and this worked fine last month, but now I'm back to square one again. Any ideas on other PIT files or root files I can download which might do the trick?
Thanks for your comments so far, you're all a bunch of wizards...
