Galaxy Player 4 boots always on recovery - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Hello, this is my problem.
My brother has a Galaxy Player YP-G1CWYXAA (U.S. version) and he tried to install a kernel, but it was not for that model, so the player was bricked, just started in download mode (using key combination)
I have tried to restore it using several tutorials, wtih the same result. If I try to install the original kernel in ODIN get FAIL, other kernels it is possible to install but the player always starts in recovery mode.
I can install roms using recovery, but always starts in recovery. I read that it is necessary to do a fullwipe and wipe cache partition. I did it and the problem continues.
I need to suggest me what else I can do.
Thanks
PD: sorry for my english

I've tried a lot of times. There are several tutorials, I've followed all of them without positive results. Using "stock rom" and ODIN I get "FAIL" when flashing kernel. Using Heimdal suite, there is a problem with "libusb-12", there is no way to do it.
I've tried everything I found during last week, always the same result: stock kernel doesn't function and custom kernels get me to recovery.
Thanks
PD: I'm not a noob, I have some experience flashing phones with ODIN, Flashtools (Sony) an others

I just recovered my Player 4.0 USA from the same symptoms. I tried everything to get it to boot but I could only get to recovery or download mode after a failed attempt to revert from ICS. By default, it would just boot directly to recovery. I also got FAIL with odin and the stock rom that you referenced. The problem is that the Odin package for our player in the stock rom thread is corrupt. I downloaded Heimdall and used the other package for our device and was able to flash it back to stock successfully.
As for the errors you got in Heimdall, did you make sure to overwrite the drivers in heimdall before starting? While in Download mode, you have to go to Drivers/Zadig.exe in the heimdall folder and hit "show all devices" (or whatever it says in the menu) and then find anything that says samsung and hit replace driver. Once you do that, Heimdall will work. I originally had the same problem as you because I only replaced the driver while in CWM recovery (which was in ADB mode) and when I rebooted to download mode, it failed with the exact same error message.
Hope that helps.

I installed the drivers and that messed it up even more. Now Odin doesn't recognize my device and I can't flash anything to it. :crying:

That's because you installed heimdall driver. If you want to get it detected by odin, just go into device manager and uninstall the samsung driver then unplug your device and plug it back. The normal driver should be re-installed properly and odin should be detecting it after. Or, I think there is an option in zadig driver to unistall it but I'm not sure.

Well what happened when you actually attempted to flash the player directly from heimdall? Heimdall is not just for drivers, but an alternative to Odin (and in my case, the only way I could get the factory flash to take because using Odin, it failed every time).

Fix all failed to finish, Heimdall finished, but can't wipe data/cache

Using the instructions provided, I flashed the Evil Fascination ROM to the gf's fascinate from stock. It was really buggy with lots of FCs so I reflashed in clockwork and cleared the three caches/data. Still buggy. So I decided to Odin to stock. I downloaded voodoo toggle, and disabled voodoo...
Because of my awesome computer file management skills I grabbed the wrong file. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu**! It never finished.
I then downlownloaded and flashed the "fix all" DI01 using odin 1.81. Halfway through the screen changes from download mode to a blue screen. After a dozen failed attempts I tried heimdall using the DI01 package. heimdall finished, and on bootup, said that formatting Fota data cache and dbdata wipe failed and then loops the bootup.
At least the download finished. I figured I would try clearing the cache using odin, or try the fix all again, but when I put it in download mode, it has the grayed Heimdall outline and odin won't recognize it. Would installing the factory drivers change the download mode back, or did heimdall install a new, odin unfriendly download mode?
Also, I have the sd card removed for all of this. Thanks in advance.
I reinstalled the samsung drivers but can't get odin to recognize the phone when put it in download mode. All I get is the heimdall download mode. So I guess its heimdall from here on out.
Heimdall will get you up and running, but you will need to uninstall the composite drivers you installed with zadig first, then reboot, then install the original Sammy drivers. here is a thread on odin and heimdall, it's a really easy to follow walk-through on then with good non corrupted files to work with, this should help you get back to full stock of you want, heimdall doesn't do movinand.bin files so unless you repartition using the pit file, also supplied in thread, Odin will usually fail. And as far as we have been able to test it odin and heimdall won't work with xp but work fine with vista or win7.

Thanks for the reply! I am using Windows 7. I downloaded Odin 1.83, Heimdall, and the DI01 package using your links. I would like to get it back to stock.
The phone has always had issues on stock 2.1 and 2.2 with it thinking buttons are being pressed when they are not, music player randomly playing songs, and the touch buttons randomly lighting up like strobe lights. I was hoping it was just a software issue and that a rom might help or was worth a shot, but I it really just needs to be put back to stock and replaced under warranty.
Questions:
1 Does the Atlas V2.2 PIT file work with both DI01 and EB01, and in both Odin and Heimdall? and which would be best to use in my case?
2 I don't see the option to uninstall the composite drivers in Zadig, so how do I go about doing that? Once I can get Odin to recognize the phone, I will try your files for it.
Heimdall + DI01 Package + Atlas v2.2 pit file = continuous boot loop saying that wiping Fota, Data, Cache, Dbdata failed.
I haven't found any information in the Fascinate sections regarding the uninstalling of the Zadig drivers. I'm going to search the program for any "help" information I can, and I'll keep an eye on this thread throughout the day.
I found the instructions to reinstall the samsung drivers in the Heimdall readme.
In device manager I found three samsung drivers. I tried all three and each said was successful. The computer recognized it as a samsung device when I disconnected the usb and reconnected, but the phones download screen still shows the Heimdall grayed outline and Odin won't recognize it. When I reinstall the samsung usb drivers for the computer and reconnect the phone, it still recognizes it as the port connection for Heimdall.
Still stuck. I can get Heimdall to flash, but when the phone tries to boot, I get the same Fota, Data, Cache, Dbdata wipe failed. Odin won't recognize it.
Any Ideas?
Fixed it.
I connected the phone to my vista machine, and odin instantly recognized it.
I flashed the fixall with the v2.2 pit file and it got to the factory 2e recovery.
I then flashed through heimdall again, and its good as new. Well.... As good as its going to get. Lol The gf wanted me to update to 2.2 through the factory update for the time being, and after it downloaded, it asked to update. Before I could press the button, it freaked out like the back up key was pressed a bunch of times and exited it self out of the update! 0_o
My advice to anyone else in a pickle- use the link provided above and...
1 Odin
2 Heimdall

Can't flash stock rom via ODIN - get FAIL msg

Hey guys,
since I was experiencing random freezes/reboots on NDTs MIUI releases (v8-v15) and siyahs kernels (v2.0-2.6.11) as well on some ICS ports, i decided to try a stock rom to see if the problems remain.
now i downloaded stock roms from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
and tried to flash them via odin. but it simply does not work. i always get the same error message (see screenshot). also i have tried several roms, none of them worked.
i can still enter the download mode, but when i turn on the phone normally it says that there has been a problem with the firmware and tells me to try recovery via kies. kies however does not recognize the phone ...
You got an ICS bootloader still ??

What are you flashing to the phone looks the same file as PDA .

Are you using a stock usb cable?

Hey,
1: Check if download is correct! (at least check file size)
2: U have installed/updated latest Kies?
3: Check if u choosed the right files on right place (we can't see the file name u chossed in each line.
If u checked and all is fine, download the firmware from f.ex. sammobilde.com to be sure.
CHEERS
I agree with JJEgan. Please do the following so we can see what file(s) you are loading in Odin:
1. Click 'PDA' and load file
2. Click 'PHONE' and load file
3. Put the cursor in the read only edit box to the right of the 'PDA' button (the one showing the path and the file name) and press end key
4. Same as 3. but with 'PHONE' button edit box
3. and 4. will help us to see the entire file name, maybe we could help then.
Met with the same problem. Mine was solved as follow
Tried a different usb port and kept on flashing. Each time it failed rebooted again in to download mode, reset odin, select the tar file again and kept on flashing. It kept showing fail at cache, the recovery.img etc. But dont worry mine wnt through finally. Hope this helps some one
kind of workaround - odin failed message (S5 mini)
I had some problems with my camera in Galaxy S5 mini 800F 5.1.1 and i flashed official trough odin. Got failed message. :crying:
I tried to flash different official ROMs, different USB ports, different cables... Nothing. :crying:
Then i just flashed a custom kernel with odin.. OK. i got the startup screen and old off. recovery. Not wery usefull.
Then i flashed another kernel from CM13, got new recovery. (TWRP 3.0.0 recovery image )
PC recognised the phone and SD card, but no ROM and gapps on it.
Took another phone, copied ROM and gapps on SD, switched SD, followed the instructions and now i have a working S5 mini with 6.0.1 CM 13 :highfive:
The device was already out of warranty.
Took me some hours and a lot of nerves to achieve this.
I hope this helps someone
O, and, i'm using WIN 10, no KIES, didn't bother with samsung drivers.

Brain is about to explode

I am trying to install a stock or custom recovery mode for the time being. I have lost the recovery mode trying to install a custom ROM. Now no matter what I do, I just can't install a recovery mode.
CWM - odin's progress bar is stuck on 0%
TWRP - odin crashes after you click start on the program
Installing from SD Card - soft bricks the phone since it will force into recovery mode.
I truly need a lot of help and would appreciate any assistance or someone to message to guide me step by step. Thanks.

Just in case -- flashing with Odin may require that you are using the stock Samsung USB cable. Are you?
Everything on it is still factory stock, except it is rooted which has been working properly for some time. Worst case scenario I might have to redo this. This is my first custom rom installation basically.
It's the stock USB cable that came with the Note. And I also tried different USB ports.

What's the exact filename you are trying to flash? I remember when flashing recovery to my Note (AT&T-branded Note), I loaded cwm-touch-i717-120414.tar.md5 into the "PDA" field of Odin version 1.85 and left the check-boxes as-is.
Have you used Odin ever before to flash this phone? I'm wondering if the driver has been installed so your PC can recognize the Odin mode that the phone is in. I recall the driver I used was USB_Driver_for_ATT_I717_Galaxy_Note_v1_3_2200_0.exe

I've used Odin before to root my phone and had no problems with it. The file names are:
openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.1-sgh-879.img.tar.md5 (Crashed Odin)
clockworkmod_touch_recovery_5.8.4.3_i717.tar (Odin had no progress)
openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.1-i717.img.tar.md5 (Crashed Odin)
I can't find any of the latest version of CMW or TWRP for a CM10 installation that works.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but since you're rooted, can't you install goo manager and have it install the recovery?

I've used it twice and it's very easy to follow. download the zip they have under "sponsored link" and use the Tar in the zip. Also verify that your phone is being seen by your computer, it should display in your device manager as well as show a COM in odin.
USB is fine, no bends, kinks, or frays. The computer recognizes the cord for charging and accessing the phone and the Yellow or Blue COM shows up properly in Odin. I tried the GooManager to install TWRP and it downloads the recovery, says it is installing it and after about 10 minutes goes back to the home screen. No successful installation notification or anything. ROMmanger just fails for me. It shows my recovery as 5.X.X.X and when trying to flash it just hangs on the Flashing popup forever until the screen turns off or a button is press or the screen is touched.
The phone is rooted fine, I just need to put the samsung recovery, twrp, or cwm on it to update it to the latest version to install CM10. Right now there is no recovery mode, just download mode for Odin.

If you tried installing all those recoveries in odin and failed, I would try starting over from scratch. When people soft brick their phones they go here and follow instructions. That link has an odin .tar prepared with the stock AT&T Kernel, System, and Recovery. Notice it says RECOVERY! After flashing that in odin you should be able to boot into recovery and take over from there.
Try that and report back!
I have an idea...do away with Odin altogether
but it's advanced and could potentially brick you.
Take a tar with the recovery you wanna use and extract that file. Take recovery.img and put it on your sd-card (put it on the internal and external sd-card just to be sure).then connect to pc.
Now Issue the following adb command. I SUGGEST YOU COPY AND PASTE IT, IF YOU TYPE IT WRONG YOU WILL HARD BRICK YOUR PHONE
adb shell dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK

[Q] SoftBricked/Bootloop Sprint Note 2 [SPH-L900]

So I'm selling my Note 2 and yesterday I did a reset but the device went to a bootloop, doesn't pass the flashing Samsung Logo.
My Device was using L900SPTBMK4 and I want to do a restore. Kies doesn't recognize it when in Download mode, does it when is on the loopboot but never finished the connection, stuck a connecting.
In odin the device isn't recognized when in download mode either, as Kies, it recognize the device when stuck a the bootloop. I don't to if is safe to try a flashing in this mode.
Using ODIN v3.09
Autoreboot checked
F. reset Time checked
I don't remember what download mode I suppose to choose from BL/AP/CP
I also have this file L900VPUBMK4_L900SPTBMK4_HOME.tar.md5 to try the flashing if recommended.
Thank you for the support
Forgot to tell, I don't have any recovery option installed.
I just can go to the Download Mode
Guys, the device has been recognized by Odin on my work PC.
Just need to know what file is the correct to be flash by Odin and what option do I need to check,

Downloaded SPH-L900_MK4_Full Restore_UNROOTED (Compressed Archive) and after that I ran it, was uncompressed and the I ran the uncompressed file called SPH-L900_MK4_Full Restore_UNROOTED.exe with the device in download mode and everything worked like a charm.
From the beginning I understood that this was what has to be done but of course 'my awareness' was about the correct file need it.
Thank you

No operating system installed

Hello XDA,
I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Alpha and I've recently wiped the whole phone due to the custom ROM draining my battery. Now I have a huge issue. I do not have an operating system on my device and I have no idea how to get one. I've tried to flash the original firmware via ODIN, but it won't boot up. I can't transfer a firmware to my phone via sd card and install with TWRP Recovery since my phone does not support SD card. What can I do? Can I transfer files to TWRP via a USB stick that plugs into the phone or transfer files via USB cable to my computer?
I will be happy to provide more information if needed.
Thanks,
Vegar
Wipe all data on phone, flash stock
OR
Boot into download mode, flash latest twrp with Odin, reboot to twrp and pull battery after.
Well I'm not an expert but here's my idea how to fix it. Install adb on your pc and than put your phone in recovery and plug the phone to pc. If abd detect it (use adb devices) than you use adb push command to transfer ROM to your phone and then just install it. But if adb won't work than I can't help you. Good luck.
Hello guys,
Thanks for replying. I've already tried wiping left and right and reinstalling up and down without any luck. I have tried to use TWRP to install both the original firmware and two different ROMs. I have tried to sideload via ADB and install and it still gets stuck in a bootloop where it crashes on "Upgrading Android: Optimizing application x out of x". I have no idea what to do..
Thanks again,
VegarAndroid
Well, if nothing works then you could download PIT file and flash it with firmware in odin(with re-partition enabled ), but only if you can't do anything else. PIT should be the last resort
Hello,
Thanks again for helping me! Could you further explain how to do this? I think I've downloaded a pit file from Sammobile, how do I flash it with Odin?
I've never done it before but as far as I know first you have to download the pit file that matches your firmware version. Then you have to open odin click AP select your firmware then select pit in pit window and check re-partition in options and flash.
Maybe a stupid question but have you tried flashing just firmware (without pit and repartition)? If not then try this, it should fix the device in most cases, if odin display fail and in the log the last thing installing was hidden.img then extract it from firmware that you were flashing and flash it alone then reboot. After rebooting apps may crash all the time, so go to recovery and do full wipe.
I indeed tried flashing the original firmware with Odin, but it just ends in a bootloop where the phone restarts in the middle of the optimization of the applications. I will try to move over a ROM with ADB and then install to see if that helps.
Hi Vegar. I had a similar issue. I used Kies from Samsung for PC and in the menu there is something like emergency restore of the phone or something like that. It will wipe all data. But helped for me.
