No operating system installed - Samsung Galaxy Alpha

Hello XDA,
I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Alpha and I've recently wiped the whole phone due to the custom ROM draining my battery. Now I have a huge issue. I do not have an operating system on my device and I have no idea how to get one. I've tried to flash the original firmware via ODIN, but it won't boot up. I can't transfer a firmware to my phone via sd card and install with TWRP Recovery since my phone does not support SD card. What can I do? Can I transfer files to TWRP via a USB stick that plugs into the phone or transfer files via USB cable to my computer?
I will be happy to provide more information if needed.
Thanks,
Vegar

Wipe all data on phone, flash stock
OR
Boot into download mode, flash latest twrp with Odin, reboot to twrp and pull battery after.

Well I'm not an expert but here's my idea how to fix it. Install adb on your pc and than put your phone in recovery and plug the phone to pc. If abd detect it (use adb devices) than you use adb push command to transfer ROM to your phone and then just install it. But if adb won't work than I can't help you. Good luck.

Hello guys,
Thanks for replying. I've already tried wiping left and right and reinstalling up and down without any luck. I have tried to use TWRP to install both the original firmware and two different ROMs. I have tried to sideload via ADB and install and it still gets stuck in a bootloop where it crashes on "Upgrading Android: Optimizing application x out of x". I have no idea what to do..
Thanks again,
VegarAndroid

Well, if nothing works then you could download PIT file and flash it with firmware in odin(with re-partition enabled ), but only if you can't do anything else. PIT should be the last resort

Hello,
Thanks again for helping me! Could you further explain how to do this? I think I've downloaded a pit file from Sammobile, how do I flash it with Odin?

I've never done it before but as far as I know first you have to download the pit file that matches your firmware version. Then you have to open odin click AP select your firmware then select pit in pit window and check re-partition in options and flash.
Maybe a stupid question but have you tried flashing just firmware (without pit and repartition)? If not then try this, it should fix the device in most cases, if odin display fail and in the log the last thing installing was hidden.img then extract it from firmware that you were flashing and flash it alone then reboot. After rebooting apps may crash all the time, so go to recovery and do full wipe.

I indeed tried flashing the original firmware with Odin, but it just ends in a bootloop where the phone restarts in the middle of the optimization of the applications. I will try to move over a ROM with ADB and then install to see if that helps.

Hi Vegar. I had a similar issue. I used Kies from Samsung for PC and in the menu there is something like emergency restore of the phone or something like that. It will wipe all data. But helped for me.

[Q] I9100 CAN'T BOOT after Custome ROM update - Bricked

Hi guys, really need your help!!! Please don't ban, really desperate here"""
Been using Custom ROMs since Omnia HD. Loved the work of cookers, never had problems, ODIN is just so easy.
Four days ago, tried to flash I9100 from Lite'ning v5 to 6.1. So, as recommended I wiped cach with CWM, and then done proper FORMAT.
Once I pressed it, format started but didn't finish - the phone restarted, and continued to restart - stuck with boot "S" animation - so can't boot into system.
Then, tried as suggested to install VANILA latest firmware - tried it - didn't work. Keeps freezing in the middle of the process in ODIN - or - it says FAILED. Now, i can't use CWM - if I press Volume UP +HOME+POWER, i get "Mobile phone with yellow Triangle with PC signs" - left to the right.
Updating to the VANILA software doesn't work, so as Lite'ning V6, or any other versions of it. Without CWM, i can't boot from SD Card to other cooked roms, so please, any ideas will be MUCH APPRECIATED !!!

Thank you all for your help !!!!!!!
Problem solved thanks to HotlipsH - I flashed the firmware he suggested and it worked !!!!!!!!!!!!!
On another note, my USB port is malfunctioning - it only works if bent at a specific angle. In order to give the phone for repair as it's still less then 3 month old, I need to get rid of manual firmware update counter (currently at 4). Can someone recommend a method to bring it back under warranty?
I am with T-Mobile contract in the UK, London. Thank you all again very much !!!! Love this forum ;']
Try flashing a stock rom with Odin. As a second try stock rom with EXT4.pit file and Re-Partition option (You MUST have a pit file to use Re-Partition)
As long as the phone is detected in Odin your not bricked.
Why did you do a format??
Thank you guys for your advice.
First of all, I formatted the phone, so that there won't be any of the apps installed, since it felt slower, so I wanted to reinstall only the ones I actually use.
Secondly, I did try to flash stock ROM with ODIN (but I am not sure if it was the stock one, or just one of the latest VANILA). It does recognise the phone, but when I flash with stock, it either freezes in the middle (waited for over 20min), or finishes with "completed - success 0 - failed - 1", and then when I reboot, it is stuck on the screen ""Mobile phone with yellow Triangle with PC signs" - left to the right. "
Any idea?
Would you like to define proper format ?? and how .

What happened in a nutshell:
1) Via CWM, I wiped the cache (Dalvik and other - which are suggested by Lite'ning FAQ prior to upgrade).
2) Went to phones options and selected Format USB Storage (to get rid of all installed apps)
3) Once I clicked the Format in options, the phone restarted, and I could see Green Android figure with the white box - the screen stayed like is without changes for over 30min, so I restarted the phone.
4) Once the phone restarted, it stayed in Bootloop. It got to the "S" screen, and then restarts again to the same screen - over and over.
5) At this point, I could connect to Restore and Download Modes.
6) Then, I put it to Download Mode (Volume Down+Home+Power buttons), and and tried flashing to newest Lite'ning MOD V6 (from previously installed V5 prior to cache wipe and format) - no results - the phone screen stays in Download Mode and no progress details in ODIN (v1.85).
7) Tried flashing to Stock ROM, but I am not sure which one I tried, but it was the latest I could find - it had many files, I Googled and appropriately placed them (modem, pit, etc.) - as a result, phone screen remained on Download Mode screen with no changes, and on the PC (Win 7 x64) the ODIN recognised the phone (yellow square) and started the process but then froze mid-way - I waited fro 20min - nothing happened.
8) Disconnected USB cable, took out battery for 2min, and tried to flash other custom ROM from SD Card - but then, I couldn't log into recovery Mode any longer - by pressing Volume Up+Home+Power buttons, I only get "Mobile phone with yellow Triangle with PC signs" - left to the right. When I tried to reboot, then its the same screen. The Download Mode works though, and ODIN detect why phone.
I suspect that when I wiped cache with CWM, it deleted saved Stock ROM or kernels (no clue what it is), and now I am afraid to give to service since you can see in Download mode that the firmware was manually updated 4 times, so it voids manufactures warranty in the UK, at least.
Very worried, any ideas?
Dont think USB storage is the phone ??
Tried flashing to Stock ROM, but I am not sure which one I tried, but it was the latest I could find - it had many files
Stock rom is usually a single tar file .
Is recovery mode working ??
You can go to mounts and storage and format system data and sd card then flash stock rom single tar file via Odin .

If you can still enter Clockworkmod recovery I would suggest that you enter Mounts and Storage Menu: -mount USB storage and hook your phone up to the PC to see the state of your internal fat32 sdcard.
If you can see the sdcard (might be empty) at about 12GB total size you know your sdcard is OK and you might be able to drag ROM/Kernel files onto it through Windows and then apply update/install zip through CWM Recovery.
If the sdcard partition does not mount proper you might be able to format it as a fat32 device through Windows and then try flashing a STOCK ROM through Odin with or without Re-Partition (need ext4.pit for re-partition).
Use THIS guide to propper flash through Odin.
I dont know where in the world you are but if your European try THIS ROM, it's the stock MultiCSC XWKF3

I cannot get to CWM, so can't do the first part of your suggestion.
I am based in the UK and got the phone in London via T-Mobile contract. I will try to flash via ODIN once I ma back home from work - already forgot how to use my old good undestructable Nokia 6300.
Will try and update status
Make sure that the rom you're flashing is not corrupted (I mean files). Check hash of the files .
If you can get into download mode (volume down, home, power) when phone is turned off, flash with odin, if not you may need a jig to get you into download mode.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
If the SGS2 cannot go into download mode, using a usb jig won't do anything.
The only reason why one cannot go into download is because the boot loader is damaged. Once the boot loader is damaged, the usb jig is not going to rebuild it.
Anyways, he can go into boot loader (download mode), and he can boot into clockwork recovery. So his system partition is corrupted. He need to make sure KIES is not running, double check in TASK MANAGER. If KIES is not running, then double check the tar file to see if it is corrupted or incomplete.
Use 7-zip to extract the tar file, if it cannot be extracted, the download was not completed or the tar file is damaged.

Galaxy Player 4 boots always on recovery

Hello, this is my problem.
My brother has a Galaxy Player YP-G1CWYXAA (U.S. version) and he tried to install a kernel, but it was not for that model, so the player was bricked, just started in download mode (using key combination)
I have tried to restore it using several tutorials, wtih the same result. If I try to install the original kernel in ODIN get FAIL, other kernels it is possible to install but the player always starts in recovery mode.
I can install roms using recovery, but always starts in recovery. I read that it is necessary to do a fullwipe and wipe cache partition. I did it and the problem continues.
I need to suggest me what else I can do.
Thanks
PD: sorry for my english

I've tried a lot of times. There are several tutorials, I've followed all of them without positive results. Using "stock rom" and ODIN I get "FAIL" when flashing kernel. Using Heimdal suite, there is a problem with "libusb-12", there is no way to do it.
I've tried everything I found during last week, always the same result: stock kernel doesn't function and custom kernels get me to recovery.
Thanks
PD: I'm not a noob, I have some experience flashing phones with ODIN, Flashtools (Sony) an others
I just recovered my Player 4.0 USA from the same symptoms. I tried everything to get it to boot but I could only get to recovery or download mode after a failed attempt to revert from ICS. By default, it would just boot directly to recovery. I also got FAIL with odin and the stock rom that you referenced. The problem is that the Odin package for our player in the stock rom thread is corrupt. I downloaded Heimdall and used the other package for our device and was able to flash it back to stock successfully.
As for the errors you got in Heimdall, did you make sure to overwrite the drivers in heimdall before starting? While in Download mode, you have to go to Drivers/Zadig.exe in the heimdall folder and hit "show all devices" (or whatever it says in the menu) and then find anything that says samsung and hit replace driver. Once you do that, Heimdall will work. I originally had the same problem as you because I only replaced the driver while in CWM recovery (which was in ADB mode) and when I rebooted to download mode, it failed with the exact same error message.
Hope that helps.

I installed the drivers and that messed it up even more. Now Odin doesn't recognize my device and I can't flash anything to it. :crying:

That's because you installed heimdall driver. If you want to get it detected by odin, just go into device manager and uninstall the samsung driver then unplug your device and plug it back. The normal driver should be re-installed properly and odin should be detecting it after. Or, I think there is an option in zadig driver to unistall it but I'm not sure.

Well what happened when you actually attempted to flash the player directly from heimdall? Heimdall is not just for drivers, but an alternative to Odin (and in my case, the only way I could get the factory flash to take because using Odin, it failed every time).

[Q] SoftBricked/Bootloop Sprint Note 2 [SPH-L900]

So I'm selling my Note 2 and yesterday I did a reset but the device went to a bootloop, doesn't pass the flashing Samsung Logo.
My Device was using L900SPTBMK4 and I want to do a restore. Kies doesn't recognize it when in Download mode, does it when is on the loopboot but never finished the connection, stuck a connecting.
In odin the device isn't recognized when in download mode either, as Kies, it recognize the device when stuck a the bootloop. I don't to if is safe to try a flashing in this mode.
Using ODIN v3.09
Autoreboot checked
F. reset Time checked
I don't remember what download mode I suppose to choose from BL/AP/CP
I also have this file L900VPUBMK4_L900SPTBMK4_HOME.tar.md5 to try the flashing if recommended.
Thank you for the support
Forgot to tell, I don't have any recovery option installed.
I just can go to the Download Mode
Guys, the device has been recognized by Odin on my work PC.
Just need to know what file is the correct to be flash by Odin and what option do I need to check,
Regards
Downloaded SPH-L900_MK4_Full Restore_UNROOTED (Compressed Archive) and after that I ran it, was uncompressed and the I ran the uncompressed file called SPH-L900_MK4_Full Restore_UNROOTED.exe with the device in download mode and everything worked like a charm.
From the beginning I understood that this was what has to be done but of course 'my awareness' was about the correct file need it.
Thank you

Bricked phone, Odin can't load the system.img

Hello.
I tried to flash stock XEO ROM to my S3, but while the whole process it stuck on loading system.img. Then when i tried to turn on the phone it shows me the yellow triangle and info that i can recover the system with Kies. But it also didn't work. I tried to flash other stock roms but it always is stuck in booting system.img
FIX:
I downloaded different roms and different ver. of android
Tried to flash several times with pit file and without but it was still stuck at system.img
I tried different ports and the result was the same
I changed the cable and reinstalled drivers and I succeed to flash 4.0.4 ver without pit file with odin 3.07
Have you tried flashing stock rom via ODIN?
Yeah, that's what I'm talking about I tried several times and it still doesn't work :crying:

Did you try install stock firmware with PIT file?
If you have 16 GB version of GT-I9300, you can try this PIT file (I tested on my device).
Odin 3.07 with PIT file;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2762337&d=1401023420
Download a stock ROM from sammobile, then put it to PDA. Before start flashing, press PIT button on Odin and select the PIT file, then press Start.
I decided to send my phone to service, when will it come back still bricked I will try it
Ok, I will get my phone back UNFIXED because they told me at the service that i have to pay for changing the firmware because my phone comes from other country.. I disagreed and told them to send my phone back.
I had an idea how to fix my phone and also some questions about that.
First, is there any way to full wipe my phone without recovery, I mean that i can;t access recovery on my bricked phone and i think that causes the problem with flashing any rom with odin (that the brokem rom i still installed and odin can' flash the new one over it). When I'll wipe the phone completely i suppose it might solve the problem. But does wiping the phone makes the phone unrecognizable for PC?
The second idea is kinda connected with the first one. I thought about flashing cf root with odin into my phone and as far as i know, it has its own recovery so i can easily wipe the phone with it and then flash the stock rom.
I know that my reply looks kinda messy but I hope you know what i mean.

Ok my phone is finally alive :cyclops: Here's the solution i figured out:
I downloaded different roms and different ver. of android

I tried different ports and the result was the same
I changed the cable and reinstalled drivers and I succeed to flash 4.0.4 ver without pit file with odin 3.07

Accidentally wiped /system. How do I fix this?

Hi! So friend 1 had asked me to help him root and flash CM on his S3 and I gladly helped. We were having a tough time doing it although I did it quite easily on friend 2's s3. Friend 3 chipped in to help us out by asking us to use Kingroot and let it root the S3. I thought it was ok and we let it do its thing. After it was "rooted" we tried flashing CM. There was an error during the process and it said it couldn't read the binary or something like that. I then wiped /system through TWRP thinking that it would revert everything back to stock. Well, obviously it wiped Android. I am so bad with Samsung phones xD Unfortunately, I did get ahead of myself and did not backup the phone when it still had Touchwiz. Good thing is, I can still access TWRP and download mode. I've already downloaded a stock rom for the s3. Now, how do I flash it? Are there any other solutions?
Thanks
EDIT: I, of course, have Odin and through download mode, would happily flash the stock rom mentioned above. However, Odin only accepts certain types of files such as .tar and .md5 files. Are there any websites that host stock roms ending in .tar or .md5?
Download stock rom from sammobile.com. The downloaded stock rom was compressed with winrar. Extract the downloaded file, you will get .md5 file. Put your phone into download mode connect your mobile to pc. open odin click pda select extracted .md5 file click start wait for 5 min after flashing complete odin will show pass. Unplug your mobile from pc. Goto recovery mode wipe data then reboot system. first boot will take 10 min.
