I know the title is a little misleading but I couldn't be bothered to think up anything more appropriate.
I previously compared my S to the T in store but only fleetingly.
Today I spent a bit more time comparing them and it was just so obvious how inferior the T's display is to the S. It was like two displays from two totally different companies.
I have always felt that the Sony Ericsson partnership was never a harmonious one and I believe this display disparity lends credence to those beliefs.
The S designed by Sony in my opinion as its more in keeping with Sony designs when compared to their tv's has the vastly superior display but crippled by Ericsson software while the T designed by Ericsson, I say that because it's design has Ericsson's over stylish language written all over it, has decent software on it with a crappy display.
This points to some tension. Like both parties are holding back on each other.
With Ericsson finally removed from the equation, I hope we'll see a phone next year with everything done properly on it.
Just my opinion as to why such a disparity. What you fellas think?

nice pun, though tbh I don't agree.
I think they were both developed under the sony ericsson partnership, and by then sony had already taken over the design of the phones (imo). I also don't think the differences in screen quality are due to the two companies, but many sony trying to keep the costs down by using a inferior display.
Actually the T is in more ways far more sony then the Xperia S. Sony has had almost a year to finalise the Xperia T and make modification. This isn't the same for the Xperia S which was announced in January a mere 2 months after the announcement split. So much so, that on receiving my Xperia S, the headphones label, the info sticker on the back of the phone, and the manual still said "sony ericsson".
I nfact still the device is still picked up as SEMC on benchmark tests and android market reviews etc.

Who the f.... cares who designed what?!
And I have no idea what are you talking about really. I saw comparisons and all looked like T is on par with S if not slightly better.
Reviews say it's a great screen.
Have no idea what you're about here.
Looks wise the silver Xperia SL is by far the best looking one. You can get it direct from Sony here:

Have you compared both yourself side by side. Do that then talk you stupid idiot. There was even a topic on Xperia blog highlighting the washed out display of the T. Just didn't think it would be as bad as it is. The T's display is ridiculously inferior to the S's and that's what really shocked me. Sony is now becoming synonymous with confused. I just don't think they have a clue anymore.
Now they top it off with JB in mid q2 3013.
Strange company indeed. Nothing they do makes any sense anymore.
I gave them one more chance but that's it.

I have the T and I can say that that information on the xperia blog was rubbish. I think it was a defect model that that guy owned. the screen is fantastic,
Though I don't have my Xperia S anymore I can say when I did have them the screens looked identical at first glance. (Quality wise).

Well the T I compared with in the Tesco store didn't seem to be defective in anyway and it's display was markedly worse. High res yes but of very poor quality compared to the S. I think the Xperia blog were even being generous

And before you reply, please visit Esato forums where people posted real (not biased) comparisons

Both screens are totally on par and T screen is great, read reviews too.

Hi guys,
general question : x10i is now officially EOL (End of Life), what would you like to buy as a "new" smartphone ?
I'm thinking about the LG Optimus 3D, awesome (but still weird things : no 2.3, 10MP pictures possible?, multitouch?...)
Anything that is not Sony Ericsson.
Most likely the next "Nexus"...

Gasp, got hit
This is a general discussion, not a Q&A but nevermind
I would say the same : not Sony Ericsson anymore... It was definitely a great manufacturer (my last phone was gorgeous), but now they're acting just like Apple, damn... :'(
LG (as I'm planning to get an Optimus 3D) is not great about up-to-date Android, but it looks they're learning their mystakes
About tabs, I have a jailbroken iPad, but Motorola Xoom looks nice (also they're preparing a free bootloader !!!!!!). Tired of getting stuck on Flash content, playing pirates with Apple stoopid blocking, etc etc... That's why I've left away my iPhone 3G to buy a x10...
I love Sony Ericsson CameraPhones. That's why i chose the X10i, and that's why i'll probably (certainly) take another SE phone after that. It is true the 2.1 marathon for a whole semester sucked but, the phone is still making great pictures.
And have you seen the demo of the EOS captor in the next generation devices: it seems to see just like human eye!
PS: I really do hope for future products they get quicker on updates. The shipping version of Arc in a few weeks should be a good indication.

Mmmmmh not sure, Google stock app gives better results than SE app... And when I compare quality with my girlfriend's low cost camera, we eventually have medium quality...
Yep, I still love the look and expensive feel of the x10. I've been installing the custom roms generous people have been releasing which increased the speed. I'd steer clear of Iphones. Think the arc is next for me.

Well I have to say I bought the Xperia S with high hopes it would live up to my past experiences of the Sony brand and the spec list on the Xperia S, however it hasnt really.
I have found it laggy and under-whelming even in normal use and dont get me started on those bottom buttons.
Looking at the spec, I would expect it to be a hell of alot quicker and less laggy than it is. Are these things that will be fixed with an update or is this the best we can expect the device to ever be.
Camera, not that impressed. It is capable of very good shots, but doesnt deal well with light, with areas of a image being washed out due to normal light from sky.
Anyone else considering sending it back / selling it, and buying something else?
I just sold it and decided to wait for a Sony model designed for ICS or with better bottom buttons. I thought the phone had too much Bezel area and length for the screen size. I hope Xperia P buttons are more sensitive. I didn't have long enough to see any performance issues. I seem to love my Arc even more now

I'm thinking of selling mine purely down to the fact ICS is now planned for a late Q2 release which I think is shocking considering this is Sony's flagship device.

I gotta be honest I'm really not sure. I also dunno if i want such a big screen. Stuck the Xperia s back in the box this morning and been using my trusty old iPhone 4 and I kinda prefer the size...but everything high spec at the moment seems to be going the 4 inches route.
I do agree btw what you said about ICS on the XS...it seems to be last in line..though I'm not really sure if it would make an improvement. You happy with yours aside from that?
Im happy with mine xperia s. Im only disappointed with built-in battery ;/
Very happy with the device, no disappointment.
I believe delaying the ICS is the correct decision, rather than rush out a flawed upgrade.
Had mine since release date I have no regrets. I like the build and NXT iface. battery I get just around 30hrs but I am not really a heavy user. Just waiting for the firmware update ICS right now is not a biggie for me. those wanting gs2 good luck to you just remember GS3 ain't that far away. Good luck to the HTC one guys personally I cannot stand sense or TW. Each to their own
XPS still is one of the most beautiful looking Android phone out there. HTC One X looks ugly to my eyes but I just pulled the trigger on it. Should have it next week. I just don't like how HTC phones have that curved edges at four corners of the screen. Decided to give it a chance till I find more details on Xperia P and the capacitive buttons.

I completely agree. This is the best gingerbread device on the market currently and one of the best smart phones currently available.
While lack of ICS for the time being is disappointing. The design, hardware and features more than makes up for that.
People are constantly praising my phone how amazing it looks and feels.
I've even had Nexus owners compliment my phone.
We also have the best screen and camera on the market currently.
You'd have to be crazy to give this phone up.

There's an easy trick to the capacitive buttons.
Instead of pressing the buttons, slide your finger over the area.
Garanteed 100% accuracy everytime.

Touch sensitive buttons never a problem for me, I don't understand how anyone can have problems with them. When I first got the phone it was a bit hit and miss but got used to where I needed to press very quickly. If you have big fingers maybe but otherwise you shouldn't have a problem.
I had the hd2 for two years prior to owning this phone, and I loved it especially as it was easy to root and there are loads of custom roms and tweaks,it was like having a new phone every week.
Xperia S took a bit of getting used to coz I liked sense, still do, but after all the changing of roms it's nice to have everything working out of the box and I wanted a decent camera and video recorder and the one on the xperia is first class.
I'm not totally happy with everything but I haven't been with any phone I've had, the perfect phone doesn't exist, and never will.
I specifically got this for the camera capabilities, any other positives where a bonus.
So overall I'm very happy, but as someone already mentioned, each to there own.

Releasing so many phones they cant keep up with the update process. They continue to release phones on outdated firmware it's absolutely ridiculous. Why the hell are they even releasing THAT many phones? Seems like sony must beat samsung in the no. of phones made. Nobody learned from apple it seems, keep it simple, keep it organised and have an uncluttered portfolio of products that you have the resources to support in a timely and efficient manner.
At this rate sony may not exist 5 years down the road, they can only bear the losses for that long and with such poor management I dont have much hope to be honest.

They are learning. The new Sony devices are T, TX, V, J. The only difference between T and TX is LTE, so it's basically one flagship, V is midrange, J is low end. Three devices, end of story. The older devices (fujis, montblancs) were designed before the Sony merger and the strategy change. Of course, they could just scrap the devices they spent time and effort designing, but that would be a bit insane huh.

Companies regularly scrap designs with a startegy change, this is only hurting sony and diluting the brand. Nobody said they should scrap all designs but atleast stop releasing duplicated phones.
Tell me again what is the purpose for the existence of the xperia sola AND xperia U? You dont just make devices with a price difference of $20 in the name of choice, that strategy just brings more problems than good.
Why on earth did they release they xperia neo L??
http://www.gsmarena.com/sony-phones-7.php
And xperia V isnt a mid range phone, there is simply not enough differentiation between the T and V, one of them shouldnt exist most certainly the V since it is high end phone with gimped internal memory.

Xperia sola is, in my opinion, more like a mid range phone, whereas U is a mid low one. (At least from what I can see). And both have different publics. The XU is more for people who wants a good phone, but not big and not so expensive. I didn't saw Sola here in Brazil yet, but U was released with S, on June.
Xperia neo L is meant for the chinese public, mostly.
V has a somewhat smaller screen, with water proof, and a different design. But both are high end. See the T/TX as the Galaxy Note and the V as the S2.

Still, it's three devices, no more. Also, Sony's 'low end' phones are not really that low end, they're somewhere in 'just about midrange' category.

I guess Sony is back with a vengeance. I like many things that Apple and Samsung bring to the mobile market, but I'm tired of watching this duopoly develop, so I'm glad to see more competition and a disruption to that dupoply. I don't know where all you guys live, but where I live, almost ALL of the Samsung phones are almost as expensive as the Apple ones and at that they are all black retangular boring objects with NO differentiation. I'm glad to see NEW price points, COLOUR and CHOICE. Sadly, HTC, Sharp and others seem to have been falling apart in the last couple of years so any more competition is good.
(As for the resources, if you Google the stories you'll find a resource that you may prefer, these two were more credible for me.)
They are beautiful devices, I'm now on my third and my next Phone no doubt will be one.
That's me too, I own products from all of the major companies and really enjoy them, but I think Sony's on to something with these phones, and the sales stats. suggest the same too.
Love the Sony phones (have four of them). Never been a fan of HTC and Samsung just feels cheap (though they have nice software additions). Next years Sony devices are going to kick ass too.

This is very good news indeed. I've always felt that Sony and the Xperia range have never received the recognition they deserve like the way Apple and Samsung do. Some people buy iPhones and S3s and Note 2s just because of the name. Good to see people finally coming to their senses. Xperias ftw
yeaaahhh... This is real story, my friend sold his Galaxy W and he asked me which Sony phone is the best with a budget around Rp 3 million
and I suggest him to buy Xperia P..
It's a prove that Sony is back and I proud have my Sola... :highfive:
Yeah xperias become really popular,no one wants Samsung becuase their phones are ugly and expensive (not Apple expensive) but still my country goes two Europe lower midlle part so price is really important (i cant understand how americans could be poor when everything is much cheaper is their country and still have much bigger pay) for example my cousing who never had Smartphone (of ANY kind) want to buy Xperia Miro so he asked me is it good, well I told him to go with Xperia Mini or Live but he insisted, not sure why. This is just proof that their sales are going up because good design and cheap prices.Just to warn I see many Samsugn-Apple fanboys not reccomending Sony because of 2010 Xperia fiasco but they never had any Sony phone.I cant understand who could buy Samsung phones, they are ugly and have problems+one of worst update support, but it looks they are upgrading Novathor devices to JB so Sony must to then because that could really get effect to their sales.

I agree with all of you.
I had an Xperia S, and now i have an Xperia P.....is the sexiest smartphone on the market IMHO. I selled XS just because was too big and heavy for my pockets....just the battery is less durable....but overall i like more than XS.
Another good thing from Sony are the updates that generally are quite frequent and good instead of other brands (who said LG ? ).
How exciting. I can't wait to see what Sony offers in the future.
Yeah, lots of tech. sites are speculating that Sony is ramping up it's software and updates now that it's getting so much positive media attention. I cannot believe how popular the latest Bond phone is...
p.s. I put this in the general news section of Android on XDA. This is news of a major Android OEM. But it was stuffed in this corner. That p**** me off sometimes.
Thats what they call as categorisation

Yeah, initially Sony made some public comments that they were not rushing into multiple cores (over a year ago) because smartphones 'had no use for them'. Now, if they perform well with fewer or a single core, I agree. Many cores to me is like too many megapixels, there is more to a good camera than megapixels, no?
To be honest, I do not see any performance boost on my dual core Sola than any of my previous single core phones. And yes, I would *love* to see a Sony Nexus. It should have been the Bond phone! Imagine the Bond phone which is so popular getting Nexus status? Actually, if you Google this, Sony Ericsson declined Google's invitation to be an early Nexus device OEM. Bert Norberg said something about 'we're not that kind of OEM', right before sales and profits tanked.
