[Q] How can I revert back to CWM 5? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed the FoxHound AOSP 0.1 ROM few days ago, and when I did, it automatically brought me into the CWM 6.x Touch Recovery. And whatever Kernel I flash now, or ROM, the Touch Recovery is still there ( Even after wiping/flashing or anything) How can I revert back to the non-touch v 5 CWM ? Thanks ( Cause there are some Flashable Zips that aren't compatible with the Touch One )

[Q] [Problem][CWM Touch-6.0.2.7][Not Installing]

Hello people....
I am new to SGS3 xda forum....i am from Pakistan...its been 2 weeks since i bought a SGS3 (second hand)...probably of 3mobile U.K...i was told by the seller that the phone was unlocked in Pakistan....as i tried system update from settings...it said that my phone was modified and could not be updated....so i decided to install CWM Touch on my SGS3 in order to create backup of my current stock ROM (4.1.1)...my phone is not rooted yet....i followed the instructions given in the following link:
http://jellybean-news.blogspot.com/2013/02/complete-guide-to-install-clockworkmod.html
Odin took 1 second and my phone was booted....Odin gave the Message ''Pass!''...everything went fine as it should have been...but when i went into the recovery mod...Stock Android Recovery is opening instead of CWM Touch....noting my phone is not rooted yet....it is also normally booting and everything is fine....can anybody guide me about the problem that i am currently facing...and its solution as well....?? Help Would Be Appreciated...
Edit:Just Flashed CF-Root Pakcage Including SuperSU and CWM Manager with CWM v5.5.0.4....now it goes into CWM...but still one noob question....have my previous stock android recovery and CWM Touch been automatically deleted/replaced?...or they still exist?? Thanks
Sounds like you were trying to install a cwm without being rooted.
Cwm replaces the stock android recovery. You could now try flashing the cwm touch through your current cwm. Make sure its a zip. If you come and ask for help You should really follow a guide on xda though. They are the best guides around.

When you flash a recovery you will delete the previous recovery in doing so, your stock and touch are both gone - replaced with v5.5.0.4.
You can now boot into CWM and install a better recovery, try Philz touch recovery for instance.

[Q] Recovery Help

Ok i had the PhilZ Touch 5 Recovery and running a Stock Sammy JB 4.1.2 rom.
So i decided to test an AOSP rom (RootBox to be precise).
And i downloaded the Rom and Gapps put them on my internal Sdcard and flashed (doing alll the wipes etc...) after i wanted to reboot into recovery and flash the gapps (before i boot up the new Rom) and the Philz touch 5 revocery was gonne and now i have CWM 6.0.x.x
What happened and how can i fix?
EDIT : ok i realised i asked a stupid question and that PhilZ rec only works with Stock roms... BUT : how can i revert back ? do i just flash a Stock rom ?
When you flash a new kernel (which is obviously included in any rom package), you'll end up with whatever recovery that kernel has. If you want to go back to stock, thread stickied near the top of Q&A has the info you need (but you should really know this stuff inside out/be able to do it in your sleep before you start flashing custom roms/anything else).

[Q] Does CWM and/or Philz Touch update itself?

I'd have put this question and bug report directly to the [PhilZ-cwm6][i9100/P] Stock Kernel+CWM6+Root+exFAT+NTFS-MS3 thread but my post count doesn't allow me to post in there yet, need 10 posts ....
Samsung Galaxy S2 - GT-I9100
Updated quickly from ICS to JB to KK over the last week or so.
CWM
I went for Philz Touch philz_touch_6.07.1-i9100.zip that gave me CWM 6.0.4.9 and the fancy purple GUI stayed for one boot but then reverted to a simpler layout though retaining the touch functions.
I also tried another Philz version which didn't boot at all.
And another philz_touch_6.43.4-i9100.zip which worked except that WiFi wouldn't switch on. That also gave the purple GUI for one boot only before reverting. Curiously this one gave me CWM 6.0.4.8
So I've gone back to the philz_touch_6.07.1-i9100.zip for now as that's the best I've found so far that works without problems for me.
My Questions are:
1. Is this normal?
2. Is there some hidden intelligence at work here changing the versions?
3. Is the CWM updating itself as I install it??
The root of your issue is this - any recovery flashed independently of the kernel on the I9100 will only persist until the next reboot. Why ? Because recovery is 'baked' into the kernel on this device & is not in its own separate partition like many other phones (where you can flash whatever recovery you want with whatever kernel you want; on the I9500/I9505 as an example). Once you reboot, your recovery will revert to that included with whatever kernel you're running.
If you want to use a particular CWM version permanently, you need to run a kernel that has it.
Excellent answer.
Baked in eh?
I'm beginning to understand but it's odd that the CWM 6.0.4.9 and the CWM 6.0.4.8 DID persist but the purple GUI front end didn't.
Either way, the CWM 6.0.4.9 I've got in there now is working happily with my ParanoidAndroid ROM and that's the main thing isn't it.

[Q] Cyanogenmod 12 lost root... HELP.

I successfully flashed the new Cyanogenmod 12 5.0 ROM via Philz (first time using Philz btw) and I couldnt back up anything because I lost root and cannot get access to Titanium Backup or Quick Boot to get back into my custom recovery. I tried getting back to Philz via hardware buttons but it takes me to the default recovery instead... I really want to go back to 4.4.4 KK but idk how to get back without having any root or custom recovery access... Someone please help!

When you go into Recovery via the Hardware button combo, it will take you back to default recovery, if you click through it . it will then load your installed (Philz) recovery, that is being you did properly install Philz correctly. You can then flash the Nandroid back up you made before installing another rom... you did make a Nandroid? If not you have a lot of reading to do.
Addon: The link below is something you should know forward and backwards before ever flashing anything. Good Luck.

So just so I'm 100% clear.. after I KDZ method back to 10B from 11C and obtain root with Stump and grab SuperSu... I can then use flashify to flash Philz.. then Use Philz.. instead of TWRP to Flash CM12... right?

Cyanogen official ROM ... recovery ?!?!?

For what is used this recovery image that Cyanogen released with last two S3 roms? Is this recovery flashable via Odin?

@Spacepl: install TWRP fromhere and deactivate any (automatic) install of recovery by/within CM: high chance of bricking.
