[Q] Q about i9300 update bought in another country - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I got the phone from uk - not tied to any carrier and I see uk got the jelly bean update but I have nothing.
Also a question: I rooted the phone but didnt install roms or anything, will that be a problem for updates or not? Also I am not from uk.

I installed kies and this is what I see (attachment)
Do those numbers tell anything, should I be able to update?

Phone repaired, did they root my phone?

I posted this question in another thread, though I never got a direct answer and didn't want to hijack the thread either.
A while back I had my phone repaired. I've never attempted to update my phone in all this time. I recently installed Kies and saw the following information:
PDA:KE1 / PHONE:KE4 / CSC:KD1 (XEU)
It says "This version of the device cannot be updated".
When I tried the "software update" via the phone, which then said a new firmware would have to be installed and if I'd like to download. I selected Yes and then the phone reboots. When it came back on it said that the update had failed and to try connect and do it through KIES. So I think there's an update available yet I can't do anything about it?
My phone details are:
Android Version: 2.3.3
Baseband Version: I9100XXKE4
Kernal Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKE1-CL181974
[email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XWKE1
Does the information from the Kernal Version indicate that they rooted my phone when they repaired it? If so, will there be a way of changing it back?
Thanks.
Does hboot say s-off or s-on?

no they will not root your phone as you are using kies to get official updates.
use odin and flash either generic roms which you will have to root yourself.
custom roms usually are rooted by the developer.
Does the information from the Kernal Version indicate that they rooted my phone
NO all its says is [email protected] which is part of the signature and nothing to do with rooting a phone ..
If Kies says no update for your phone then its usually correct .Phone provider has not updated firmware .

I never used Kies until now and the phone wasn't updated before sending it back to be repaired. I don't really have the intention of rooting the phone myself. Was just wondering why I can't update the firmware.

Kies says there's no update, however I'm asked to use Kies after a failed attempt to use the software update function of the phone. It says that there's a new firmware version available. I downloaded it and it asks to reboot my phone. When it starts up again it says the update has failed and to use Kies. I don't understand why it would say there's a new firmware available and yet I can't update it?

Thanks for the replies.
If the phone isn't rooted by them, why won't the software update allow me to update the new firmware that it says is available? It fails and asks me to do it through Kies where it says that my version of the phone cannot be updated?

Dude... You keep asking the same question. Although I cannot say why your phone is telling you that you have an update available and it is failing and saying to use KIES, I can reiterate what JJE mentioned and that is that it sounds like your carrier has NOT released an actual update for your device.
I recommend that you call your cell phone carrier and ask them if and when an update WILL be available and start from there. If they say that there IS an upadte available then you can ask your question again but until you know for sure you are just going around in circles.
the csc you have does cuurently support updates has they have not been released for that region.
try changing the csc to a country that has updates.

Sorry about that. My mind does tend to run in circles.
My phone was bought from Dialaphone and it's unbranded.

When I try changing the csc all I get is the XEU sales code. There are no other options available. I reside in the UK, btw.

How do i get Kies to update.....

my phone? it wont update it at all.... it says "Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies"
I did update it ages ago with odin to XWKJ3
How can i get Kies to update it again?
Cheers
Then you use ODIN to update simple as that . You no longer have the correct codes for KIES server to match to an update .

i've got the same problem

Depends on what region your phone belongs to download and flash the latest ROM released for your region and you are good to go
You can get the boxed ROM and the latest through this website
http://fus.nanzen.se/
Use intratech's thread for flashing the stock boxed or latest ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
nope cant get it to update! its doing my head-in.... My phone is open on all networks and not locked so i have no clue what software to use!

First step you will have to take is to flash the LH1 firmware using Odin if you are not already on it..
Here is the link
Then, put the update file on you sdcard, use vol up+power+home to boot into stock recovery and then install from sdcard the update file which you had moved..
You are done, by the way always backup before you start flashing anything..

If you use just Odin..your warranty will not be void..also if you are on stock and not rooted you will get the OTA but then you must be on the ICS firmware to get the OTA..once you have flashed this update you will have JB and them you might not get the official update..
By the way you are on XDA - DEVELOPERS forum, have you realized it??

Well this is i think XDA Developers forum .
Possibly you mistake it for another forum ???
We don't do official updates that's not why the forum exists .
Hope you realize OTA updates arrive anytime after release not on the day of release . You may wait weeks .
Two choices One stick with Samsung and the updates .
Join XDA Developers forum and flash what you want when you want .
We will have official update one hour after release .

[Q] Going back to stock

I need some help. I'm trying to go back to stock on my GS3. It is unbranded and I flashed this ROM: United Kingdom 2012 August 4.0.4 I9300XXBLG8 I9300OXABLG8
Whenever I connect to Kies it says that this device firmware is not upgradeable through Kies. Then I put this code in my dialer, *2767*4387264636# to check the product code and nothing happens.
What am I doing wrong here? FYI, this device was bought from someone who was given this device when they were sent to the olympics as a Samsung blogger.
Thanks for any help that y'all can provide.
I am a newbie to ..
But i think just download the stock rom for s3 on update.samsung.c*m or so ..
Find your regional ..
And download odin for window / mac
Just flash it ..
And wipe cache and factory reset
I think just those.. i do it once and succses .. lol

I thought so. I'm not really wanting to update to another firmware per se. The message in Kies is throwing me off. When I google the message I find most of the info says that the product code and rom do not match.

Two points really Kies may have no update and product codes may not match firmware on the server . Thats due to you changing them in part .
This is XDA and kies is not a product we use .

Yes, the firmware seems to be the last official update from samsung,
JB hasnt been released for UK afaik, so the message.

[Q] T-Mobile (EE) S3

I am sorry if this question has already been asked....
I have a UK T-mobile S3 - currently on Stock ICS (not rooted) and want to install Jelly Bean firmware on my phone as t-mobile will take another year before they release their version.
Can anyone tell me which 4.1 firmware i can load on my phone which will be safe without having to root etc? if you can direct me to the right place plz..
Will i still get OTA updates from t-mob or will i have to revert back to ICS to get the update...?
Many thanks
Any firmware can be used and you lose OTA and Kies updates .
Use UK JB makes most sense .
