Google makes Moto Mobile move to JB - Motorola Droid X2

Here are more details on the moto jelly bean trade up program. Our phone is on there.

Meh, I'm not all that impressed with what we can trade the X2 in for. The RAZR Maxx looks decent, but I'd rather wait for the next big Nexus phone.

The announcements make it sound like a moto nexus phone would be almost a year out before we would see it.
Just to understand better what other than internal size is there between the razor m, m HD, or Max HD
Sent from my MB870 using xda premium

Unless they give us updates on our X2 right now and/or give us unlocked bootloaders then I'm not at all impressed and I will still never buy a Motorola phone ever again.

Sucks you have to be eligible for an update to use the program

I will never buy another Motorola phone again either. While my 2 Motorola phones both were very well built, the S/W on them was crap, slow and laggy. They might have had an excuse with my Droid 2, Android was still new at them time. But there is no excuse for the abomination that is the X2. The only S/W updates they give us are to fix a couple of minor bugs and make it harder to root the phone and put decent S/W on it. Here's a big middle finger to Motorola. HTC, Nokia or Samsung for me next time.

Needing users opinions please

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but i figure ill fire it out there. After going thru multiple warranty replacements and they even swapped my original x for an x2. It will not activate. the manager said he would send me an iphone4 32gig model. He said i will have until Friday to make my decision. I love android and never used ios. They will not ship me anything with a 4.3 inch screen except another x2. Im just tired of the swapping. I told them i may switch to sprint. I just am looking for opinions and i wont flame anyone for their opinion. Thanks all
They should be able to get you activated eventually, that sounds odd to me. I'm very happy with my DX2. I would rather have the Nvidia Tegra 2 processor over any other feature on any device. The qhd display is also amazing, don't let anyone tell you otherwise until you see a Tegra 2 game like PinballHD or RiptideGT in person.
I also have an original Droid X running ota Gingerbread and the performance is great. Once the DX2 is updated to 2.3 and more apps are written to take advantage of dual core this device will deliver some awesome performance. Fir now, gotta love scoring 2800+ on quadrant everytime with stock unrooted DX2
But do what's best for you. The iPhone is sweet and iOS 5 is just around the corner. That will be like xmas morning in iPhoneland, so many new features to unwrap! But I'm sticking with my Droooiiiiddddd

Just a quick tip.. I had problems activating too.
This might help - Make sure you have good service and instead of pressing the activate button on the screen, go to emergency then dial *228. That worked for me.
Im not an Apple fan. Droid all the way
Just left iphone 4 on AT&T, signed up for Verizon, got DROID charge, returned charge a day later and got DROID x2. I am finally at home.
Dual core, qhd display, supreme build quality, reliable network, unlimited data and working netflix... simply can't beat it.

Stick with it, take your x2. Because of the processor and the build, it will last you anonly get much better with gingerbread. Plus the boot loader will probably be unlocked in the future.

Thanks for all the responses. By the way the emergency call *228 worked. Thank you for that. I used to have an iphone and when i activated it was like riding a bike again. But then it hit me that i have to jailbreak and add all these repos and install all this crap and have pretty icons all over the place. I got it 6 hours ago and its going back in the box. Im sticking with the x2. Hopefully it gets updated soon and all will be right with the world. I now despise apple products even more. Its more of a gimick toy for someone to say "i have an iphone" Sorry i doubted you android, even if it was only a couple of hours.
Yeah, ipwn is teh suc. Glad you stuck it out.
Yeah, good move with the x2. The ip4 is stable, intuitive and runs itself more or less... But it's so boring and limiting. The android phones just feel faster. Back when I was a dedicated iPhone guy, I thought the ip4 was blazing fast...until I started on android.
My OG Droid felt faster then the iPhone 4 after Root/ROM/OC. 10 minutes of work and I had a superior phone. (in my book)
Now that I've got the X2, using the iPhone feels like going back to my Palm Pre from the OG. Big leap forward, pentile display be damned.

The X2 display is MUCH nicer than the Atrix's screen. Its like night and day for some reason, even though they are using similar tech.
Agreed. DX2 display is better.
I don't dislike it necessarily, it has just taken some adjustment from the OG Droid.

I just came over from AT&T. Coming from a long line of iphone, I have owned the following devices, some less, some more than a month:
(AT&T)
Iphone 4
Htc inspire
Motorola atrix
Htc inspire
Samsung infuse
(Another) iphone 4
(Got onto verizon)
Samsung DROID charge (2 days)
Motorola DROID x2
And I can say with confidence the x2 is my favorite. Stability and build quality are great. Everything works and will only get better.

I agree, and the thought of Gingerbread is exciting. I only hope Verizon doesn't take too long.

Android and ICS

So after seeing what ICS can do and what not I am in the verge of switching either the Photon or OS. Simply because its idiotic to me that Android is suppose to be open yet we will have to wait at least 3 months for ICS to leave out to other devices. What good does this do for Google? What about those folks that just bought their Bionics? Amaze 4G? Or yet the Photon. We have to wait for this to hopefully come to us if not root and hope that we will get it.? This is my biggest gripe with the whole Android and other OS's. Even though its suppose to be open it still very frustrating with all the fragmentation ... so what do u guys think? Are you dome with the Moto?
I rather have all that, then iOS. Look at it this way it comes with the terf.

Well moto has posted in a blog that the Droid RAZR, Xoom, and Droid Bionic will all receive ICS within 6 weeks of it being released. No word yet on other devices, but I'd say its only a matter of time until the photon gets it as well, since it's specs are on par with the Bionic and Xoom.

Exactly my point, so why pick favorites Moto? Or is Verizon really THAT much more important? Sorry if I sound so negative but as a loyal Moto consumer why not state that all Motorola devices that were released in 2011 will receive ICS.?

Should I get the RAZR?

Currently I'm up for a new phone on my contract and I'm considering the Droid Razr or Samsung GSII or Galaxy Nexus.
I've found a pretty decent contract for the Razr so I just want to see if anybody has any major gripes with the phone? All the reviews I have read/watched seem to give a pretty good outlook on the device.
Another question. Why are there so few custom ROMs for the phone? Is everyone waiting for an official release of ICS?
If you have anything to help make my choice, please add it below!
Almost took out the galaxy nexus on contract but what stopped me was its way to much like the Galaxy S2 which i own which is 2 plasticy and does not feel like a premium phone worth 400 to £500 , glad i got the Razr as it feels like its worth its value and will get better once the bootloader is unlocked and will be at its full potential once Icecream Sandwich is out
Dont buy anything from a company which lies to its customers !
I've been deciding on either the RAZR, the Nexus, or the Rezound. From what I've read, the Nexus can be buggy, and may have reboot and signal issues. The Rezound is a decent choice, but may not get as good a signal as the RAZR. The RAZR may not have great WIFI, but is good with 3/4G. Also, the RAZR's camera is not the best, especially in low light. My original Droid also had a weak camera. Personally, I'm going with the RAZR. I just wish the camera was better, but I need a good phone first.
Having a nexus....which I am trying to sell....I like the razr better. Huge difference is signal. Sitting in my houae on nexus was locked on -105. Razr is usually -86....at worst -95. Battery....on 3g is getting me easily through the day. Take it from someone whos had both.
Personally I would get the Maxx though if I were you.

I have no complaints about my RAZR MAXX. Signal, speaker, build, battery, speed - all excellent. The development scene won't be as big as your other options, but there is a good amount of action at a competing forum (droidrzr). I find the RAZR to be so smooth that custom ROMing isn't all that necessary, though I do run a build stripped of VZW and Moto bloat (Eclipse).
There's a good number of new and cool phones coming out soon, I personally would wait just a bit. Unless there's something about the RAZR you gotta have. I know one could wait forever but you should be able to get a full 720p screen, bigger CPU, great camera etc without the plasticy feel rather soon.
I went from a droid x to a razr then ended up with a rezound. Just my opinion, the rezound won hands down.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk
Had a Nexus for 3 days. Brought it back and got a razr. Brother had a Rezound, he also now owns a razr.
So you can guess what my opinion is.
Had to go to the Razr Maxx for the battery life and GPS. Was coming from a charge that sucked for both.
Razr MAxx ROCKS!!!
I just got rid of the galaxy nexus and got the razr i'm so glad i did i love the razr

Droid Fighter?

http://androidcommunity.com/motorola-droid-fighter-spotted-looks-awfully-familiar-20120319/
Droid Fighter possibly due out in April? Anyone frustrated with Motorola about making a 720P 4.6" HD Razr Max w/ ICS so soon?
I feel like you never get to enjoy your Moto phone for long. And how can there be dev and community support when the same manufacturer and carrier keep coming out with upgraded versions every ten minutes. I have to admit sometimes I envy Apples once a year roadmap.
I used the razr for a while and follow threads on most high end phones. Full disclosure though, I am now rocking the nexus and I know that the SGS3 will come around soon, but at least I know there won't be another nexus around the corner. It sucks when you "love" a phone just to have it trumped (and if you are like me you buy the new one), and now you love that phone....for a little while anyway.

Ya they all do to some degree. But the X2 was beat by the bionic, that was beat by the razr, all in like 8 months on the same carrier. This year you already have the Maxx, which could be beat by April.
I'm just wondering if anyone feels a little jaded. I know I would.

Yeah I just got my Maxx but I bought from amazon wireless and they have the 30 day return policy. If the Fighter comes out on the April 12 I should be able to exchange. I want a better screen with same battery. Who wouldn't?

I don't because that is going to be the case unless you're Apple or RIM. We all know RIM is going to go the way of Nokia so that just leaves Apple as a yearly producer. I am happy with my device and those that can afford a new one every six months will be happy too. My maxx in many ways is better than my laptop so I can't really complain.

I'm ok with it. The MAXX's specs are great, the screen is great, battery is awesome. Only thing missing is the unlocked bootloader, no need or want to upgrade to fighter.

[Q] Are there any hope for Jelly Bean from Official Source?

Hello Everybody
I am planning to purchase this mobile phone if Jelly Bean becomes available to this.
The mobile phone is very much comparable with HTC One S in many aspects.
Moreover not as expensive as HTC One S.
I believe we can get Jelly Bean with CM's help.
But, i wish to have Motorola's customization too.

Many devices are still waiting for ics, so is too early to know about jb. Maybe after the rollout motorola will state their position about jb
My view is we should get it. The RAZR is similar to the gnex and there is now the connection between google and moto. It depends on if/when google handed over the code. And how much messing with it moto want to do.
If you look at how long it took them to get ics to us compared to how little it differs to the nexus release, they must have been doing something else too?

The funny thing it that ics for verizon came out early that for gsm unbranded ics
Read an article about Cyanogenmod 10 where the devs said that it's similar enough to ICS that they'll be able to port it quick. Hopefully that'll mean a quick turnaround for us, too.

I have a standing offer for angst-ridden people who want to sell their phones- $5.00 for a Razr, $6.00 for a Razr Maxx, and additional $0.25 if it has a memory card over 32gb.

It's Motorola. Make it 2 years.
It's VERY popular to trash Motorola! One wonders how all you smart consumers bought one in the first place, since their upgrade schedules, locked bootloaders, etc. haven't changed since they first made smart phones.
I just can't believe how quickly the jelly bean threads started now that we have ICS. I love this forum, all jokes aside. I love that it moves so quickly on to the next big thing.

Hello Everybody
Thanks for all your replies.
I actually open this topic in optimism for two reasons.
1) ICS update for this mobile phone is mostly stocks with small Motorola niceties.
2) Motorola Mobility is now a Google's Business.
Because of 1) point being true, Motorola Mobility has very less engineer work to update it's OS to Jelly Bean.
One more take, Google could have bought Motorola Mobility for two reasons.
1) For it's deep patent portfolio
2) To side-step Samsung
If the second reason i suggested becomes true, then if Google adopts this mobile phone as Google's Experience device, then Motorola Razr has a bright future.
As it is very much capable than Samsung Nexus S at least.
Google not even have to adopt Motorola Mobility's mobile phones as Google Experience Devices, if Google just shows small love to its own business, that it self is very much enough.
Moto RazrMAXX has excellent build quality and out of the world battery life... But it comes with locked bootloader...
Verizon is by far the best network, but they are constantly messing (shared plan MINUS Unlimited, Unlimited = FULL device price) and milking their customers...
OH GOD, What a life...!!!
Even though Motorola + Verizon combination scares me, GOD Google + Motorola is giving me some little hope... First they reduced the Blurness in UI... Then they may bring JB to us before others...
We just can hope only...
@Raddy
I don't think Google's Moto is to side-step Sammy... Because 1) Google is NOT a half eaten rotten fruit... 2) Google can never be EVIL, afaik...
Further if they want to side-step Sammy, first thing they have to do is UnLocking their bootloaders atleast in their international versions or bring some options like HTC... Imagine Nexus-MAXX-HD

You forget that not all RAZR owners and not all members of this forum are verizon customers in the us. I'm on orange in the UK. Its more traditional that unbranded devices get the updates first. I don't understand why vz pushed it before the rest of us. Makes no sense.

I think we have to look at the larger picture here- Apple has the software and hardware production of the iPhone. That gives them an excellent position to offer a device with no corruption of their happy unicorn sparkly iWorld experience. Google acquiring Motorola gives them the manufacturing arm they lacked. I fully expect to see the next "Nexus" iteration to come from Motorola. On the Windows Phone front, Nokia is doing horrible and will very likely be bought out by Microsoft for the same reason- it gives them a turnkey manufacturing arm... one already geared up to make Windows Phones.
Whether you like Apple products or not, you cannot argue with their success. They design and build products that sell very well. Every company out there wants to do the same thing.
