About roms - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I´ve been using Omega rom for a few weeks now and am pretty happy with it. The only thing that annoys me is that i have to manually update it everytime there is an update and i do feel that this is quite often...
There are two other roms that i´ve been looking at, Checkrom EvoHD & Cynogenmod. Can anyone tell me if i setup either of these will it be able to update my rom just via the phone.
Also if you have tryed either Checkrom or cynogen i´d love to hear your oppinion on them as i can´t say i can find any recent info on them...

What do you mean with "manually"?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

He means no OTA.
BTW you question it's not clear, you just need your phone to update, even manually.
If a Rom support OTA it's mentioned in OP.

You should use roms with OTA.
But here is another question, how many times you upgrade per mouth. Usually here mostly no diffrences, everything is same. Sometimes even regressions happen (Transpartecny bug)

Transparency is not a bug with the ROM, but with the launcher so get over it.
BTW OP I am watching you thread for any type of "best" questions...

Why should you use ROMs with OTA? The Omega update process works well.
Just check the changelog in advance to see if the update makes sense...

mhm noo,why?
im super confused as to what this is... a rom or a kernel or a mod? the OP was so vague
Getting some FCs on LPP, but it does blaze.
Edit: Getting a few more FCs. Skype, Rom Manager, plus a lot of games. I'll keep testing though. Running jt's clean Rom v0.4 and the 11/02 non-voodoo kernel.
Yeah, just too much closing, even without warning and not FCing, just backing to the homescreen. Updates will be awesome.

Just In Time Compiler (JIT) The best part of Froyo.
Guys, its not a kernel it adds files to libs and ect.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Ok so going through the Samdroid forum for info on this, I saw like 400 pages of posts. I saw nothing of a release for fascinate, only spica. I would really like to try this but have a few questions. Is everyone that is getting the FC's running voodoo or standard? Theres not much mention in these posts. Will this allow for Flash?
tons of fc
After running for a couple hours only got one fc, but most apps would not open on the first attempt. The screen would zoom and go black like the app was opening, then I'm sent back to the launcher. Second attempt would usually open the app.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I've tried running both the original and the updated version. For starters there's WAY too many FC's and the apps not opening on the first, second, or third try is obnoxious and I personally can't handle it and don't have the patience or time to open an application five times before it works. It's quicker but the FC's probably even it out. Right now it's personally not worth it, I'll keep playing with the releases until it's worth it. Good find though, keep up the good work.
Think ill just wait for froyo in a week or two

Thanks to PreLudeDrew for getting this working. My First roms were having issues so Im using his update script and binary.
This is a stock ODEXed rom nothing more so no photos needed
Toast, PreLudeDrew, BigRustDog thanks for the great support.
IMPORTANT NOTE
Most of you don't like wiping your phone to install roms. But when it comes to that its best to just bite the bullet and get a clean install.
I will try to make roms so that you can just install on top and just clear dalvic cache.
I'm at V2 right now so if I go to 2.1 it can be installed on top with just a clear of cache and dalvic but if I do V3 then its best to wipe the phone as I have done something big for a change.

I know right, since I had to sell back my HeroC to Sprint (damn I miss that phone ) to be able to afford my 3D I haven't flashed anything to a phone in over a month. It's actually been fun though using sense again, and I'm definitely content in waiting until we get S-OFF/perm root. The wait will make it that much better.
compressed photos and movies.
then made the CPU not have to work as hard with the apps, zipaligned, and thats that.

WiFi not connected each morning:

Hello all.
I have searched this issue quite a bit, and I have some ideas, I just need a bit of direction.
So, I have a rooted Galaxy S2 running ICS version 4.0.3. I rooted it via Zedomax's youtube videos (I would link it, but youtube has closed his account FREE ZEDO!) Some mornings, when i wake up, I notice my WiFi is not connected and my phone is using 3G for its data. So, I go look in the WiFi list and it is on, but its not connected. I tap connect, nothing happens. It doesn't even try. I forget the network and re-enter the credentials, nothing. I reboot the phone, same thing. Finally, once i remove the battery a few times, it starts to work but not very well. I have a Netgear WNR2000V3 router. Just did a fresh upgrade/install of the latest firmware. All of my other wireless devices at home stay on and work fine. Now, i did notice that ever since i rooted when i first got my phone on version 2.3, i had WiFi issues. So my first thought is it could be my kernel? Like i said, this only happens at home. I also have the exact same router (WNR2000v3) for my staff WiFi at work and I have no trouble connecting each morning.
So, what are the steps i can take to fix this? Is this a known issues with the ATT SGS2? Am I missing something?
I would post a sreenshot of my phone info but since I'm a new user I won't be able to so here it is in text!

No body seems to have mentioned it but since you are rooted go to them market and get Titanium Back up. That allows you to back up all of your apps and data then restore it when you get the new ROM flashed.

AOSP/AOKP

I haven't been on aosp since November last year and I have one question seeing as I am considering returning. Is the interface lag gone ? Like pulling down the notification shade, it was much smoother on tw than it was on AOSP/AOKP. So now in 4.3 AOSP/AOKP is that gone ? I would do it myself but im on 4.2.2 tw and I don't want to have to wipe then flash just to see the lag still there.
4.3 I can't say. Its incomplete. No lag in 4.2.2 though, then again - it never lagged for me so you're still going to have to test yourself.
Nandroid backup takes 3 minutes. Wipe and flash 5 minutes. Setup wizard 2 minutes. Just make sure you also have a titanium backup

Well anyway, as stated, I never had the lag issue you had. You'll have to test it yourself, since you're the only person I know who had that problem anyway. Just because no one else has it, doesn't mean you wont have it.
Aokp s3 milestone2 is much smoother than cm10.1
