Hey Guys.
I'm looking for an backup application which will allow me to backup my apps and system data on roms based on stock ICS and restore to JB and vice versa.
Titanium backup does the job but after restoring on a new rom I get a lot of fc's and none of the apps works. I cannot restore call log and text messages, accounts, etc.
There's a lot of backup apps, I know. But I would like to be sure that they work as they should. Can someone recommend me an app which will do the job?
Thanks in advance.
Just digging out
I uses mybackup root and it works just fine(if it force closes then you need to clear the app cache)

I might be reading the question wrong or not be knowledgeable enough, but if you are flashing to a non stock based rom then stock won't work without a whole lot of work and possibly some legal issues from whichever company wrote that code. Sense for HTC, Motoblur, Touchwhiz based apps and so on don't work cross platform and the change from ICS to Jellybean would corrupt most apps and if you find a way to force it the results are going to be FC at the least. That's what I gather anyway! But if you find a way let a brother know because there are some stock apps I liked, just not enough to give up my AOKP.

there is lots of apps in play store. I use backup sms contact
Which allows you to back contacts, sms, apps, call logs

Hi,
I have a question which might seem too stupid or trivial.
I am currently running CM 7.1.0 ROM on my Legend. I would like to flash ogo2's Gingerbread ROM while restoring all apps and messages/contacts.
Can somebody help me with the procedure of backing up apps and messages, then flashing the new ROM, then restoring all apps/messages
I have no idea for messages since it doesn't care for me.
If you are not going to format/clean your SD card Titanium backup can be helpful for saving applications with data.
The only app you will need to install is Titanium and it restore applications+appsdata for you after flashing.
Make a backup/restore test drive before proceed with flashing.
For keeping your messages there's some apps in market that might help you, haven't tried them though.

Hi, when i did my root and flashed brand new rom, I used 3 things, I used visionary+ temp root then used Titanium Back for all my apps, I used Go SMS Pro to backup all my sms/mms, and for contacts, I used the built in export contacts to .vcf file the good thing about this is if your contacts are stored on phone (not sim) and you have more than one contact for each name + contact pictures associated they fully restore (so long as you leave the pictures alone on SDcard. If you use only sim for contacts, I have found that you can have problems, only storing the default cantact number, no picture association after backup and restore (lost a whole heap of contacts that way).
How ever, since gaining a lot more knowledge, apparantly you can actually use Titanium to backup your contacts and sms/mms as well as your apps using the "backup system data" from the batch mode, although I haven't tried this yet, I cannot confirm that it works.
for contacts you can export them to sd card, as for the sms and other apps use Titanium Backup
Helloo
I am new here and to android, bought my first android phone ever just few days back ,i have read and spent time reading and searching stuff here and gotta say i learned a lot in just few days but there are few things i didnt quite understood...
Q1, i knw the difference between odex and deodex read here but i wana ask, what are the main benefits of deodex ? is it that we can install theams and other stuff like that on stock with it? or smething else ..
Q2: i have tried successfully coderrom and blackhawk and i was able to restore my apps data with titanium backup but i tried cyanogenmod kang rc1 and was not able to restore anything is it not possible or any particular way to restore? i wana restore my call history , messages, contact etc usuallstuff.
Q3: the clockwork backup can it be restored directly above any rom ? if i am running cyanogen or coderrom and want to go back to my old backup just in case should i just restore my old backup directly ? or i have to flash the stock first and then apply backup(this is how i did for now tho)
Q1 - yes, for themes.
Q2 - I restore my backups pretty fine. But not messages and contacts. For contacts I the google account so it automatically restores. For sms I use Go Sms Pro inbuilt function.
And Q 3 yes, any rom.

Thanks
havnt checked gosms pro tho but as i tried to restore dailer storage data with titanium nothing happend it did said successful tho, nor did contacts , is it because the dailer of cyanogen is different than that of stock and coderrom etc ?
is that dialer a part of touchwiz in stock roms ? if so can it be installed on cyanogenmd ? one more thing i saw cyanogen dont have task manger also tried to restore it but titanium got stuck in it nothing happned so finalyy restarted my phone...
i am back to stock for now still trying to decide wich rom should i go for
ok iv searched about and read the threads that popped up under where i typed the title.
when i got my S2 the first thing i did was flash the litening rom, iv been using it for a couple of months got loads of apps, texts, numbers and emails on there.
now on my old htc i had an app which did a backup of all my contacts texts emails etc called pim backup, worked ok on that phone, maybe a bit slow and crap but hey did the job.
right i fancy trying out a new rom, iv read that there are programs etc for backing up my rom incase of a problem, and programs to back up apps etc so i dont need to re download, whats gonna happen to my texts and emails?
any help or even a shove in the direction of a guide that i cant find will be appreciated
You do a full backup of your ROM (including personal stuff) with ClockWorkMod-recovery.
For single apps I recommend titanium backup. Note that your messages and such may not be compatible to other roms. For example, you cannot restore the messages from a TW-ROM into MIUI.

ok well im currently running a backup on clockworkmod so this will do all my texts emails etc etc so when the new rom is installed i do the same but with restore??
and ill then be on a new rom, but with everything still on my phone (apart from any apps) which i restore thru titanium.
and i shall go look for this titanium backup right now.
thankyou very much
ooohh to add, is this clockworkmod backup, also backing up all my media files, like pictures, music, videos??

No because teh restore restore teh whole rom not just yoru SMS.
You dont need to backup your contacts etc as they are synced with yoru google acount.
If you want to backup/restore SMS you can use a SMS Backup & Restore
If you want to backup/restore your apps/app data you can use Titanium Backup.
When you install a new ROM your data (photos, ...) won't be touched.
ClockWorkMod will restore the entire ROM.
You have to be careful when restoring SMS'. If your ROM uses another app for messages, it won't be compatible.

Good evening everybody.
I've recently rooted my phone and installed a costum recovery. Now i'd like to say good bye to the samsung stock ROM and install a costum one (Android Revolution HD probably). But after flashing i'd like to find my phone as it was before! More precisely, messages, contacts, settings, apps (with user settings) should still be there; i'd like to backup everything is on the phone and restore it after flashing. To do that can i use Titanium Backup? It can backup it all? Are there other ways to do that?
Moreover, if i get the Siyah kernel and install the CM10 too, massages and apps are shared between the 2 systems, or everyone has its own?
Thanks in advance!
You can back up user apps and messages with titanium, restoring them safely in your new rom. You can't do the same with system apps or settings - you'll just break the new rom.
Contacts are restored when you log into google.
....additionally,I suggest using a third party launcher like nova, you can back up your layout, and it does a brilliant job of restoring widgets too, also remember to make a nandroid of your working Rom so if the flash goes wrong you can restore, and don't forget to back up your efs
Ok, thank you very much! And what's about dualboot? Is there a way to share massages, contacts and apps between the 2 systems (for example, if i send a message and then i change ROM, i can find that sent massage in the just booted ROM too)??
EDIT: Thank you too slaphead20. I didn't see your post.. I'll absolutely make a nandroid and EFS backup! How can i do the EFS backup? Simply from recovery? Can i use the GS3 Unified Toolkit?

You can, but it's complicated,I don't think siyah works with 4.2.x, I would stay away from dual booting until you are a bit more experienced.....I personally don't bother with it anymore, too much of a headache!
Hi
I had backed up my Data partition using TWRP.
Flashed a new rom clean but as I did not use Titanum to backup I want to restore using nandroid.
So I gave Titanium permissions to read and write sms and then restored phone/messaging storage.
After its done I open messenger and see the sms appear for a second and then dissapear. After reboot they still gone.
Any help on this?
Running Dirty Unicorns on Angler.
So 6.1.
Being on DU you should know better then restoring system data. Nandroids are not for that and should never be used for this purpose. If you want to keep your sms then you should have backed them up with an sms backup app.
Not all apps or roms for that matter keep things in the same place. Nor do they code them the same. This is why it is advised never to restore any system data at all.

....I been doing it all the time on EVERY rom I have ever used since my HTC Sensation.
Never had problems.
The issue this time was, original DU nightly had issues with git sync so dirty flashed caused FCs so they reuploaded it today fixed.
So I lost all my data, normally I use XML export of SMS in titanium and it works.
And I have also previously restored sms from nandroid on all roms without issue but this is first time on 6.0.1 ROM where its not working correctly.
Use sms backup. It is free and works great and takes into account the different ways apps handle the sms data base.
There are more issues then a simple repo sync. The devs are aware of the issue and working to fix it. Like out of memory errors that is cause by Google changing something in art but not pushing them to aosp.
