Open the file using 7zip/winrar..extract the modem.bin file..
sent from here, there, somewhere!!
...and flash via Odin using the "Phone" entry, not "PDA".
Conversely, if you delete modem.bin from the .tar file of a ROM, your current modem is retained.
Hi,
On not root device, when you flash modem.bin file via Odin ( Phone entry)
What about:

I only received my S2 a few days ago and being completely new Android i decided to keep things as simple as possible flashing the latest Checkrom in order to get rid of the stock Vodafone UK bloatware.
I did this simply by flashing CF-Root via Odin and then flashing the Checkrom zip via CWM. This is the sum total of my flashing experience.
In order to be able to return my phone to out-of-the-box stock i downloaded 'GT-I9100_VOD_I9100BUKJ3_I9100VODKI2_I9100BUKI1.exe' and 'Kernel_I9100BUKJ3.exe' from the carrier branded stock firmware thread.
However, after running each .exe (a 7zip extract) i am left with GT-I9100_VOD_I9100BUKJ3_I9100VODKI2_I9100BUKI1.tar.md5 and Kernel_I9100BUKJ3.tar.md5.
Given that these are neither regular .tar files or .zip files i'm unsure of the correct procedure for flashing them. I have read a bunch of threads about flashing stock kernals and roms but i'm still not 100% about what software/tools i need to use to flash them and in what order (kernal or firmware first).
If anyone could help me out i'd really appreciate it.
Thanks

[ROMS]Official i9100 carrier branded firmware download for Odin Flash
In an effort to keep things simple and avoid confusion I have moved all the carrier branded firmware to this thread.
The guide for flashing and rooting your device can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1075278
Its usual to follow the relevant instructions regarding whatever flash is used .
As the man says on the instruction page
I've started to package the tarball archives with the md5 hash to maintain the integrity of the packages. Just treat the tarballs in the same way as you would without the .md5 at the end. DO NOT CHANGE THE NAME OF THE ARCHIVE

Hi guys,
I'm really sorry if a question like this has been answered, but I'll try my best to keep it brief.
So, I got a new blue 16GB SGS3 from Vodafone Australia today, and the stock firmware was a Vodafone branded one.

At the moment, that particular official firmware is not available for download, so I wanted to know how I can make a backup of it so it's like the type you can flash via ODIN.
In other words, I want to save it as a tar.md5 file so I can flash it back to stock in case I have to claim warranty etc. in the future.
Can someone give me a short description as to how this is done, or if possible, just link me to a full How-To thread?
Thanks for your time!
Answer is not before root .
But you can use CHECKFUS to download the original firmware or its update if its on the Samsung Server .
That can be flashed via Odin .
Or you can look for that firmware in the stock rom thread or on sammobile.com .

Thanks for the reply.
As far as I know, my current Vodafone branded firmware is not available at sammobile.com or the Official Firmware thread yet, hence the initial idea of backing up my own one.
Other than doing it AFTER root with something like CWM, is there a way to backup the current kernel?
Thanks

What kernel image have you flashed? Can you get into recovery or download mode?

First use Triangle Away to reset the flash counter and then use Check Fus to get the latest firmware for your phone. Afterwards flash the same using Odin.
I reseted it first time flashing rom so its already 0
Invalid HIDSWVER with Check fus

Oops, I missed that, sorry. No it will not come back as long as you flash stock firmware only.
