I know we don't have any ICS kernel sources yet but do you think we will get ICS before this August?
I thought I read somewhere that we were getting it in the next month or two. I would assume we would have a good working ICS port at the least in the next month or two. Can't speak for the devs here, but I thought that's what we were looking at. As for when ATT will push it out, that could be forever...I hate how long they take, but oh well.

No, you're thinking about the i9100, not the i777

Having used ICS on the captivate, it truly is an update worth switching devices for. However, I'm pretty happy with the I777 so I will just wait. Android updates that were actually really good: Froyo, Honeycomb, and ICS. The rest were just hyped too damn much and gingerbread is the worst of all of them (imho).
Wow. Use the sticky thread.

For one, it's not just ICS when Jellybean comes out, you're going to get it much quicker than anyone else. And also, it's the purest form of the Android version minus any bloatware each manufacturer puts on the phone, which can be either a pro or a con, but overall, the bloatware has been a con in the past.
IMO, Gingerbread was a very good update, Froyo didn't seem that special when I finally got it for my S7. The biggest improvement was non-broken radio firmware, which had nothing to do with Android version.
Gingerbread had significant power management improvements.

I love and appreciate all the work that the Devs have done for our phone, but if we don't get ICS soon I will be leaving this phone. A lot of my friends have phones with ICS roms and it is such a improvement over GB. I don't understand how one and two year old phones have ICS and Samsung won't allow us to have it. It is ridiculous.

What the hell is your problem? Name one phone other than the Nexus line that has received ICS officially.
HTC hasn't released any updates yet.
Motorola hasn't released any updates yet.
Sony has only released betas (I applaud them for putting out prereleases)
Asus has only pushed it to one tablet (easier to port HC tablets due to HC being a newer codebase and not having to deal with the RIL) and that was an utter disaster
So far, my experience with ICS is that it's not an improvement over Gingerbread. I haven't been able to see any significant positive improvement - some parts of the UI are a bit shinier, but the gapps user interface is clunker than it was in GB. ICS has some good improvements on tablets, but for phones - not so nice.

First of all I said that I APPRECIATE the devs!!!! And I never said that the roms were official. Almost all HTC and LG phones have ICS roms. I left t-mobile with the htc sensation and believe me that phone runs 300% better now that it is running ICS. And by the way Entropy it is no disrespect to any dev by what I said, I am rocking your Kernel right now (Excellent job). I am pissed at Samsung and them only. Our phone is supposed to be a flagship phone so what the hell is the holdup?
If you can't wait then just go get the G Nexus. These questions have been brought up and beaten to death. Just don't be surprised when Ics finally drops for our device and our Roms are superior than most. GS2 surely has the hardware to run prety much anything smoothly and dev community is strong here

Read this on a couple of tech sites. Very disappointed. I was under the impression that the wait for ICS wasn't gonna be that long. That was a big factor in getting the note. Would have held out for a quad core with ICS already on it if I knew it was gonna be this long. I love my note and it's sad that att's flagship android device doesn't have the latest version of android. Plus I think ics will smooth out alot of the lagginess owners have been reporting.

What? Possibly in issolated cases or on crappy ROMs, but that is one hell of an arogant blanket statement to make on an OS that is just rolling out onto handsets the past couple months. I saw vast improvements with it in many aspects, to include battery.

^^This guys got a point. I will defend ICS tooth and nail, but you will rarely find me belly aching about it being on the note. I absolutely want it, but I didn't buy a phone with it already on it. I do expect ATT/Samsung to deliver it to us, but don't think we'll see it untill fall. Anything sooner will be a great surprise, anything later and I'll start complaining. If all I wanted was ICS then I would have kept my Vibrant.
Time to DIY
I saw that this morning and welp... time to flash a custom ROM -_-
I was holding off waiting for the official to get here 'later this month'. I am disappoint. Oh well... Its not hard to root anyway.
Waiting for the next o.s. update for your smartphone is a never ending game and hasn't changed.
It's not real smart to buy something HOPING it will get the next update sooner rather than later. WIth smartphones, you'll always be disappointed .
I'm running ICS on another device I have and it's not that big of a deal. I'd certainly like it on my Note but it's not something I'm waiting for with every breath.
totally untrusted source. there is no samsung norway official page+samsung norway does not speak english!! anyways the youtube video interview, that samsung executive guy who was answering questions, where it says comments, it was written that the att note will be getting the update in may

When will JB ROMS be coming to the samsung vibrant, i know that there is already some work for the g-nexus but nothing about the sgs models. Does anybody know when?
I'm assuming soon after Google releases the code for it.
android 4.1
I hope sooner rather then later
When it gets to devices such as the Nexus S, I9000, or basically any Galaxy S family device (first gen)
IT has the potential to run on the Vibrant.
I am also hearing that the Nexus S is getting an official google update, so if that is true, we will get it for sure.

Yes, and we should really encourage them by donating anything for their cause. They're not really getting paid to do this, but they are doing it anyway. I recently just donated $5 to a dev that has helped me through a couple of problems, may not seem much but a little can go a long way
I can't wait to see what all these developers and going to create now that the source code is out. It will be a while with some dev teams starting from scratch but it will be worth the wait.
Hey everyone, I currently have an AT&T iPhone 4S that I got a couple months ago, around April. Previously I had the HTC Inspire 4G, and while I loved Android, the phone had a tiny battery and got no signal so I switched back to iOS. I was very involved in rooting and custom ROM's and everything, so that's not an issue. My mom has an upgrade available, and she wants to have my iPhone 4S (she has the 4, and doesnt want the 5). She's allowed me to use her upgrade to get a new phone, as I'm going to give her mine. I want to jump back onto Android because I love Jelly Bean and the new MIUI and CM10 ROMs. I'm kindof in a bind now, because since i just spent 300$ on my iPhone a couple months ago, my parents don't want me spending another 200$ for the Galaxy S3. The One X is only 99$ right now, but I like AOSP a lot better, Sense is alright, but not as nice as vanilla Android. I understand that I could just flash CM10, but I'm not sure if I should wait for the new Nexus which is apparently coming out in December. I also want a phone with a removable battery, so that's an issue with the One X, as it only has a 1800 mah battery. Should I wait until the new Nexus comes out, and will the S3 drop down in price? Or should I just pick up the one X? Thank you very much.
First of all, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846277
And second, if you really like rooting and modding and whatnot, the AT &T One X (One XL)is unrootable from its latest updates. And since you would be buying it new, it should be on one of its last few updates. So avoid that for now.
However the Gnexus is getting stale, so youre best bet is to wait

I'm not saying you're wrong, but how exactly do you know. We all knew what we were getting into when we bought the device. Just gotta be patient that's all. If s-off does indeed come from sality within the month, then this device would be making great strides in development. From there we would need the RIL to be cracked, but it takes time. If you don't see any huge development by the first week of January, return your device. As long as you bought the phone after Nov 22 you can return it to Verizon by January 15th. Just my input.

2 Questions:
1) What about this method? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1996389 Won't that get you to the point where you can try one of the ROMs that has been released in the Dev forums here?
2) Why January 15th? Is that a holiday special? Isn't it normally 2 weeks? If I bought my DNA on the 21st, what are the chances I could get them to honor this promotion? Since I only missed it by a day.
Once the devs work things out with the s-on and RIL problem this phone will really be a beast.
As far as the video problem, I'm sure it'll be worked out as more phones get 1080hd displays. Same with games and apps.

You must first unlock your device's bootloader in order to root. Once that is all completed then yes.... And in response to your second question, yes the return period is a holiday special. Chances of getting the promotion honored is doubtful, honestly. You could always return the device, pay the restocking fee, and buy the phone again elsewhere, which would then fit with the promotion. That's assuming if you bought it off contact.

I don't understand when people say this...Sure AOSP is nice to run every once in a while, but honestly I don't see what makes it better than sense..they do the exact same thing, they just look different! There's not even the argument that it runs faster anymore as the DNA has such good internals that it could run any os without a problem.
