So here's what happened,
I have a Samsung 8 gb microSDHC that I used on a previous android phone.
I didnt format it for my samsung galaxy s2 t989, i just deleted my old files and put some new files in it.
The galaxy s2 read it fine and it gave my no problems for a day.
The next day I noticed that when I take it out and put the microSDHC back in again, it keeps saying me that its safe to remove, basically, its not reading the card. So i put it on an adapter and plug it into my computer. When i try to access it from my computer, it tells me it needs to be formatted. So I used the windows formatter (i did a fat32 format), but right before it finishes formatting, it gave an error saying it cant be formatted.
So here's the big problem for me, now the computer cant read my microSDHC from my adapter, and my galaxy t989 doesnt recognize the microSDHC when I insert it (when I do, nothing comes up, as opposed to before when it would just tell me that its safe to remove).
What could be the problem? Thank you for your time.
I do not know what the problem can be, but I recommend you to format it in Linux, as Windows' formatting tool is useless, most times. Also try to rebuild the MBR.
i cant fix the MBR of it since the computer cant even see my microSD. I tried it through ubuntu, and the same thing, it doesnt even pick up my microSD. anybody else got a suggestion? im really hoping its not fried because i didnt have it for too long... =[
Sounds stuffed to me. PC can't see it, phone can't see it = bin job. If it's from a reputable manufacturer (Sandisk), try and have it replaced under warranty ?
thanks for the answers guys, looks like I cant deny that its fried any longer xD
its a samsung brand microSD, had it for a long time, I'll check if theres warranty on it
Third thread by you all about the same problem? I already answered in the other two threads. I'll just basically sum it up.
That also happened to me, nothing would read the card. Put your microSD into a Blackberry. It should ask you to format it. Click yes. Your microSD should be fixed. If you want a more detailed explanation, check out my other two posts on your other threads.

I have two 8GB Sandisk MicroSD card killed by my HD2 (i think so). Anybody faces the same prob? The cards are totally dead now after using it in my HD2 for a few days...
No such experience.
Good to know the Bland and model.
You mean brand?
Try to format it on your pc...
I had the same Isue.. could not format it on xp pc only on windows 7 pc..
mos of the time if you let you put it in your card reader and its recognized.. you just have to let it scan for errors and let it fix them..
Sometimes my cardreader fails to detecet my card. I don't think this is related to my HD2, atleast I don't hope so.
Not had it...yet...on my sandisk 8GB MicroSD. This is the one straight out of a Nokia 5800. The 2GB one which cam with my HD2 went tits up after I tried to import a playlist from WMP onto it. Seems I'm not alone with this issue either...
For the first time I can report a problem with my HTC HD2.
I also seem to have a problem with my 8Gb Scandisk card. It seems either my telephone or my laptop screwed the card up.
I have standard stock last rom available in Holland manilla 2.5 Rom 1.66. No special things installed.
The card works almost 100% except when I go to the tap music. Then hell breaks loose. The phone looks for the music files. But cannot find them and then suddenly the phone cannot recognize the card anymore? I have to restart the phone before it can recognize the card again. This only happens when I go to Music.
But the damage is done anyway. Cause when I insert card in laptop or computer. I can see the files but according to the computer there empty (which is not the case). I cannot copy or cut while in card is inserted in the computer.
I accepted this problem cause I have a good working TomTom on it which someone else installed for me. If I format the card I cannot put it back.
Try to format your card, I did this from my laptop (if it can reorganize it) and NOT chose FAST. Becouse if there is a problem with the card it will simply skip it. This is also a golden rule when you install new OS on a old or well used laptop.
Copy the tomtom folders to a folder on your PC before formatting, then copy back...done
I have a 8GB Sandisk card, I've had it on 3 plones now, using it for about 3 years, still works like a charm.
To the OP, maybe you got fake ones, Sandisk is the most counterfeit memory card brand, if you got them on ebay or so and not in a respectable street shop they might be fakes, for which that kind of failures are typical.

I have this problem, and I went back to HTC. I got a new phone replacement and everything is fine thereafter. =)
I had a problem with 3 different Kingston 8GB cards.
Statred working fine, but after writing more then 2GB to them, they suddenly died.
I tried all of them in the phone and in a card reader, and they acted the same way.
As a final test - I used a SanDisk card, and it works just fine from the time I got it.
So - maybe, you just have defective cards ?
Did you try formatting the cards in the phone and not in the PC ?
I have the same problem. If i put the files on my sd card from my pc there seem to be no problem. After I check these files on my phone, they are damaged or the folder is empty. So.. anyone has suggestions what to do?
Same experience here.
8Gb was working fine the first two days (the card that was included with my HD2)
Then, for no reason got a pop-up (invalid card type, do you want to format?)
At forst I said "no" and tried with my computer... None of the 6 software I used could save my card. Was definatly dead.
Put a second one in (1Gb, just to make sure), it's been a week, and I already get errors when I write. It's like the micro SD is on read only (though ther's no switch to set it back to "write mode")
One of the many (many many many) bugs of my HD2
i had the same problem. the 8gb SanDisk microsd card that originally comes with my htc hd 2 is now useless. lost a lot of pics, cab & songs. it can't even be read by card reader on my laptop. is this some kind of bug?? now im using another 8gb card & hope it wont happen again. im glad though that im not the only one having the problem
And i thought i was the only one. My 8GB only lasted for 1 day before it went died. Had to get a replacement from Service Center. The staff seem to handle it in a very fast manner (guess i am not the only one to get the SD card replaced recently!!)
My guess is i did a hard reset on the phone with the SD card in it. Anyone else did the same thing?
My card has been corrupted twice no the HD2 leading to:
1) Very poor performance
2) Very warm phone
3) Very fast draining battery
I believe it was due to the power saving features enabled to do with the microsd as someone else mentioned on this forum.
its a manufactures defect. something should be done. lots of users are getting this problem now, including me
maybe i know the answer..
sorry for my bad english..
I've the same problem. But searching from all forums, finally i get the answer. just find n download EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Proffessional 4.3.6 (for 5 MB). Insert the mmc in card reader, use this software to recovery all the missing file (choose Complete Recovery Option). After recovery process done, use software LLFTool (for 600kb, just doing some browsing at google) to Low Level Format the mmc (this LLFTool can recognize the mmc). After all done, Windows can recognize again the mmc at windows explorer. Just right click and choose quick format (format FAT32). Done, you can use the mmc like the new one

thanks for your help. i tried your solution but it doesn't work. neither the EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional nor LLFTool detect the memory card. i think there's nothing to be done for the card. just hope htc will sort that out
I have also recently had an issue with my 8gb Sandisk Micro SD card.
It has been working fine for a while now, then yesterday when I went to pick up my phone, I noticed my S2U2 unlock screen was black instead of having my usual wallpaper there. My HD2 had just suddenly decided it can't recognise the card anymore and tells me I need to format it for it to be readable.
I pressed 'no' and tried to read the card on several computers as I wanted to transfer all data off before formatting it, but it would not read on any of them, nor would it work in my old N95.
I don't understand why this has happened, it has been working fine no probs, had about 3gb left on it still and have not recently installed anything on it - very annoyed as I have lost lots of recent photos of my 6month old boy which I cant get back now.
Have had to order a new card and hope this doesn't happen again, but not a happy bunny
This isn't an X10-specific issue, but at the same time, most answers I come across are specific to, say, Nokia or other smartphones and they're not very helpful, so I decided to try my luck here.
I have a 16GB MicroSDHC card that came with my X10 (I bought it from Rogers). I'm not sure what the brand is - I think it's SanDisk, but I can't check right now as I'm attempting to format the card using SDFormatter.
My card was working perfectly fine when I got it in September..
So here's the problem.
A few weeks ago, I was transferring files from my PC to my phone using the USB cable. The files transferred fine - or so I thought. After I was done, I checked my phone and the files weren't there. I tried again and the same thing happened.
After a few more tries, it finally saved and I thought that was that.
However, this started happening more frequently until my phone is unable to save pictures I took using the camera, and I can no longer add files using my PC. I can still read the files that are on there, but I can't make any changes.
At first, when I took pictures, it gave me some error messages like "File cannot be saved" and "Memory card is write-protected" (except I haven't made it write-protected) but now it says "File successfully saved" except it doesn't actually save.
Now, I've tried all sorts of solutions.
I don't have a MicroSDHC adapter, so I can't use the tape method.
I've tried formatting the card using SDFormatter, Windows Formatter, and even on the phone itself. The files appear to be deleted when I format them on the PC but once I unmount the SD card and check my phone, all the files are still there. Formatting on the phone does nothing.
My brother has the exact same phone and memory card and his is perfectly fine.
I have no idea what to do! Please save me before I go insane.
Had the same problem with the 16GB class 10 Kingston I bought recently, the only option is RMA!
Good morning everyone.
I have been surfing this site for quite some time, but have just received my Vibrant S and am now in a position to post a question.
I am coming from the WinMo 5.0 world and android is very new to me, but I am enjoying the new phone.
I do not yet have the phone rooted and am hesitating ... mainly because I don't know all the features it has yet but also because I don't want to get into anything I don't know yet how to get out of. Having spent enough on this phone, I don't want to break anything just yet. This forum seems to have some very helpful people though, so I hope I can trust you all when you finally talk me into rooting. I barely got on the Market yesterday and found a tool 'SGS Tools' which has some info in the description which I think I can really use, but I need to root. So go ahead and start talking me into rooting.
Anyway, to my question:
The movie 'Avatar' comes on a 2Gig micro SD card and I have an 8Gig HCSD card. So I copied the directory 'Movie' and its contents to my C: drive, unmounted the 2Gig, removed it, and put in the 8Gig. The phone recognized it and everything went fine when I turned the phone on. So I moved the directory 'Movie' and its contents to the 8Gig card and after all was said and done, when I try to open the movie file 'Avatar.dcf' using either the shortcut or the media player, I get the error: This video can not be played.
Is there a hidden file I may have missed? Can you not create a copy? Would the DRM get involved at this point?
I am concerned if I move the file from the 2Gig card to the 8Gig card, and I get the same error, then I've also lost the movie.
Your suggestions would be most helpful. Thanks.
Here's another take on it.
I powered my phone on this morning just before posting, and found the phone was not recognizing the SDHC card. It was in effect, unmounted. I pulled it out and back in and it then asked if I wanted to format the disk, so I did. I need to pull the original dcf file off the 2gig disk and try this move again, but in the mean time I've found this among a lot of complaints regarding android recognizing SDHC cards.
[edit] Seems I can't post outside links yet. Here's an address you'll have to manually put in your address bar if you wish to read this article.
< ... ://humanslate.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=4&Itemid=14 >
In there it mentions, "SDHC cards will not work in devices designed to the older SD 1.x specification".
So, another question at the moment is this:
Has android (I'm running JI6, eclair 2.1) been developed for the original 1.x cards? Has anyone bought a new android phone and had an SDHC card in it? My 2gig card is of the old 1.x specification.
Perhaps I need to repost on the developer page? I figured the movie was part of an app, so it would only seem reasonable to post here.

That should be all you have to do to get the movie to play. I would only recommend that you double check to make sure you copied the Movie folder to your external SD card and not the internal card.
The Vibrant can use SDHC cards (use 8gb class 6 here) and I know many others use 16 and 32 gb ones.
Convert the file to simple mp3 universal coding that any video app including the stock can read. Should be 720p. Create a video folder if one does not exist. You know all this sounds like. Should play fine. Too bad you can't use the lame short cut this way. Then again I never used it anyway.

I replaced avatar this way. Since have now for the extended version instead.

What do you mean by 'That'? Do you mean to move or does a copy suffice?
A little earlier after posting here, I put the 2gig back in and copied the DCF file to the C: drive again. Then after replacing the 2gig with the 8gig in the phone, I moved the 'Movie' directory and files into it. Now the media player doesn't even recognize the file. Although when I went to the SD card and looked at the details of the DCF file, it said the rights were expired. Can I assume it is because I copied it?

What program did you use to make the conversion? I have two converters on my laptop I really like, but I don't know that they will even recognize a DCF file.
Thank you for your assistance.
And thank you Mr Moderator for moving this to its correct forum location.

I was referring to either a move or copy. Both should work without a problem. I've done both and it played each time.
Never seen the rights were expired before. Not sure atm.
Thanks Flak for the clarification.
I am thinking I have larger issues here now (hence the edit to the title).
Over the New year, I have been working on word documents and PDFs and saving them to the external SD card on the phone. I have Windows 7_64. I was synced in with my phone using 'media' to transfer files as Kies doesn't work. After disconnecting the phone and verifying I can read both the word docs and the PDF's, I turned the phone off for the night. The next morning when I turned the phone on, I recieved a message that the external SD card was corrupted. I had to do a format to get the card back. After copying the docs and PDF's to the SDHC again, making a few phone calls, and installing a couple apps from the market to the internal memory, I rebooted the phone (turned off then back on), I received an error message saying the external SD card had been damaged. I had to do a format on the card again to get it back.
All I can say at the moment is I'm glad I didn't move the Avatar.dcf file to the SDHC card, but I don't understand what is happening with the SD functionality. This is becoming completely untrustworthy as I can't use the SD card for anything in fear of it getting corrupted or damaged. Which means I can't backup anything to the SD card either.
[Q] I have read mention of drivers for Windows 7_64, but have not yet searched them out. Could the default connection drivers that Windows 7 loads when you first connect your phone be an issue?
[Q] I have also read in several places now that the USB debugging should be checked. Now most all of these posts are for rooting and reinstalling ROM's and such, but my question is this; Should I have the USB debugging on when I am simply connecting to the PC to transfer files? It seems I am losing my SDHC card only after I have connected to the PC using the USB cable.
Do you have any thoughts or suggestions I can try? I'm too new to android to think of possible solutions to these little quirks, or where to look or what to ask.
Thanks.
One reason I am hesitant to put any Windows 7_64 bit drivers is because of the following comments:
"cant get my cpu to recognize my phone after installing drivers... im on windows 7 64 bit any ideas??"
"have the same problem. i'm on 7, 32bit"
"did you enable USB debugging?"
"yes of course. first thing I did after I rooted"
These are from <http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929>
Now again, my phone is not yet rooted. For the purpose at hand, I can't see the need to root. If my SDHC card is getting corrupted during connection, then rooting the phone is not going to solve the problem.
So my question above still stands; should the USB debugging be on (checked) when I simply connect to the PC to transfer files?
But I don't know where to look now or what to do. I have spent an entire day looking over the posts and have found virtually nothing to assist me with this little quirk.
Any suggestion would be helpful at this point.
Thanks.
So, I've learned something new today and would like your confirmation if I am correct in my assessment or not.
When you plug the phone into the Windows desktop machine, you get a prompt on the phone asking if you want to connect to Kies, Media Player, or Mass Storage.
When I select Media player, I have immediate access to the phone and SD card. There is nothing more to do with either the phone or the PC is this correct ?
The reason I ask is that if I connect to Mass Storage, I then have to go to the pulldown whatchamacallit on the phone and select USB connect. It then prompts me to "Mount" the phone (SD card) so I can access it.
I think this is why my SD card became corrupted and damaged. I didn't know I had to go and "Mount" the thing before I could use it.
BUT, why doesn't it ask me to "Mount" it when I select Media Player for my connection?
Thank you for your assistance and expertise.
Still waiting for confirmation
I'm still waiting for some definitive answer(s) and confirmations to these questions of mine if anyone has the knowledge.
Thank you.
Hey all, i have a 64GB micro sd card but the phone is not recognizing. when i insert it the phone does not detect so i cant mount it(mout option is grey) and dont get any notification.
Then i tryed to read on mt desktop and still does not detect. Also tryed a friends laptop but same problem.
i went into computer management and i see the card there, but just it. It wont even let me format it through there.
I have search in google for a solution, but pretty much everyone was just saying to format it, but thats something i cant do with all the things i tryed.
I made this post to see if there is something else i forgot to check and if you could help me.

If you cannot mount it in the phone and 2 computers, it's faulty. Try and download and boot into Gparted (CD or bootable USB) as one last chance, but I doubt it would work

Ok, first off I want to give a big thanks to digixmax for all his help so far! His quick responses have helped me to stay somewhat calm even though I am extremely frustrated right now. I have tried several different ways to root and boot CWM and CM 10.X onto my NT the last few days and nothing seems to be working. I have tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439630, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2098419, http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2013/01/09/cm10-1-android-4-2-1-jellybean-sdcard-img-for-nook-tablet-0110/, and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529553 all with no success. i have used different cards, usb cables, and ports. i have used mini tool partition manager, acronis, gparted on ubuntu live, and fedora core that i have dual loaded on my laptop. i have downloaded the same files from different sources making sure to keep them separated in case one image is corrupt. and i have tried the preloaded image and built my own files onto a partitioned card making sure the card was set to FAT32 primary active 0x0C LBA and that boot was flagged. if anyone else has a suggestion i am all ears. im not opposed to just rooting into the eMMC either if someone wants to point me in the direction of a link with CM7.X or newer. the last build that i did on my sdcard looked like this (attachment below )
im not sure if anyone will be able to tell me if i did something wrong, maybe by file size? if more info is needed let me know. thanks in advance!
It's unclear to me what you want to do. Do you want to run CM10.x from sd card or install it internally? Or juts root? "Root" does not mea installing an alternative ROM, so it would be good to know what you're after.
If you want to run from sd Iamafanof's images should work. Personally I prefer his Android 4.1. Try it:
http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/11/18/cm10-0-jellybean-sdcard-img-for-nook-tablet/ (It was not among those you said you've tried)
If it's not working, come back with more info on what you actually do and what happens (or doesn't happen).
If trying to install internally that image from Iamafanof can be used as a bootable CWM sd card and you can install CM10.x from there.

i was trying to root and rom CMsomething. at this point i dont care how it happens so long as something happens. your right i havent tried booting CM 10 and was actually looking for the version you posted. i read it was a good ver of CM to run on the NT. something that just started happening this morning when i use win32diskimager as admin a box pops up saying File error an error occured while accessing the device. This usually means that something else is accessing the device, please close all applications and try again. Error 1. Incorrect function. not sure what this is about. anyways ill try CM10 from that link and let post back later. thanks!
Make sure any file explorer is closed. That's what usually prompts that error for me. (I insert my card adapter, and the file explorer tries to access it.)

ok that helped some. its now saying write successful again. i tried the first link you gave me for iamafanof and that didnt work either, it still booted straight to stock. i guess im going to try flashing it to the internal memory. i cant believe how much trouble this is giving me, ive never had near this much trouble rooting and flashing with any phone ive ever touched. with the phones i may have been down a day or two trying to find a solution but today is going on day 4 or 5 that i have been trying to do this. time to try an alt route i guess. quick q, if i were to try and downgrade firmware from 1.4.3 do you think that that would help? has anyone tried this?
Having it installed internally is so much more convenient!
But before you give up on booting from sd, have you tried turning the NT off, inserting the sd card, and then plug it in to the charger? That usually gets even troublesome devices to boot from sd.
Edit: Version of stock firmaware makes no difference at all.

ok thanks i was hoping it would make some kind of difference. i have tried booting the NT with the power button, with it off insert sd and then jump start it with my stock cable and other usb cables. i have tried different usb ports on my computer with the cables and still nothing. i have been reading for days and trying everything. ive looked on xda, tabletroms, as well as many other sites that have dev support for the NT and rooting. thats why its so frustrating. im done i think with trying to boot off of the sd card. just going to have to start researching doing it by internal memory. i dont really care either way if i keep the stock software i think i would just be happy with even an early version of froyo or eclair at this point lol. if anyone cares to post links on rooting and installing roms on the eMMC or has any other suggestions about booting from the sd im open for suggestions. thanks guys for your help so far.
You say you've tried different ports on the computer but I told you to connect it to the charger. And also, just to make sure, you do use a class 4 card? SanDisk seems to be the preferred brand.
And I've already posted a link to my instructions.
If you can't boot from SD card any modification will be difficult so you need to get that part sorted.
Edit: And I also take it you are absolutely sure you have a Tablet and not a Color? Model 250A. I ask because it's not uncommon people mix them up.
