[Q] Backup Radio - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I just barely rooted my Atrix 4G for the first time. Before I bother to unlock the bootloader and flash a custom ROM, I want to find out if it's possible to return to stock everything, including radio. I understand I can use nandroid to backup the stock gingerbread ROM, but what about the stock radio? I did find another thread that said it's impossible to backup the radio, but if that's true, how did the devs post radio ROMs?
If it's impossible for me to backup the radio, then where can I get the stock radio? (2.3.6, 4.5.141) I want to be sure I can get it before I go flashing custom ROMs.

Yes, I did google for "atrix stock radio" and "atrix backup radio" and didn't find an answer...

Ok, i did find a thing that says my radio version can be found in settings -> about phone -> baseband version.
Mine has a "37" in it, so I'm guessing this is my stock radio: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1554799

When you flash any ROM the radio stays so you should have no problems in that area.

Always make a Nandroid backup before jumping to a new ROM.
When you do an upgrade, the radio stays the same, so you don't have to worry about that.
That can be verified by about phone -> baseband...

Reverting to 1.95 Stock ROM

Hey guys,
With this 1.95 AT&T ROM, just a question:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=439346
- I had the HARD SPL and cooked ROM before this
- I then flashed to this ROM because I wanted to go back to stock for a return.
Is that it then? Am I good? Or do I have to continue to flash the Stock SPL as listed in the HardSPL instructions for reverting to stock?
I'd really appreciate any help guys. I need to know if this ROM 100% puts me back to the way I was before starting with flashing. Or is there something else I have to do?
NOTE: I posted this in the thread for the actual ROM, but because of a lack of activity in that thread, I was afraid of not getting a response. Sorry for any inconvenience.
When I returned my Fuze, I just flashed the stock ROM and left Hard-SPL and didn't get any static. They didn't check the bootloader or anything. YMMV, so you may want to revert back to Stock SPL if you think they would check the bootloader. Personally, I would feel confident with just the stock ROM.
Those clerks don't know chit unless it has to do with the iPhone.
GL
i having the same pro flash and no luck with the radio wish i could get the stock radio back
The stock radio is in the Radio thread. Flash that and you'll be fine. As was said however, you shouldn't even need it as i doubt they'd even check that.
Hey thanks for the replies, guys! That's great.
That will probably work for my return. But, I also have my wife's phone which I'm going to flash back to stock and I just want to make absolutely sure that EVERYTHING is back the way it was when purchased. Also, just for future reference I want to know how to get all components back to normal. Where is that stock radio thread?
Any help on that? What else am I missing?
UPDATE:
It just occurred to me that I should have written down the ROM and radio version numbers before doing the HardSPL and ROM flashes to try out some cooked ROMs.
Anyway, I've got the stock AT&T ROM on there now, but how do I know what radio came with my phone? Is there anything else I should put back on there? I know they won't check but I just want to be thorough.
Thanks!
if in the US it had to be the 1.02.25.32 radio as i dont think it came with any others initially in the US. if u go to the wiki it lists all the stock roms and radios that came with the device.
huh??
So, if I now have that radio and the Original ROM am I all back to stock settings now?
I'm confused though. Because out of the box I did the following:
1. Hard SPL (File called: RaphaelHardSPL-Unsigned_190_1_3)
2. NATF ROM 2.2
...then decided I wanted to go back and did nothing more than flash the stock ROM.
Without flashing back an SPL, how could I have still ended up with everything back to stock?

What are radios?

At the moment I have RA-Hero 1.6.2, and the rooted stock 1.5 HTC ROM (2.73.405.66) on a GSM Hero
I'm just wondering what the radio actually is, and whether I need to update it? From what I can gather, it's the actual phone part of the phone? At the moment I have 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18 do I need to upgrade to 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26
Also, do I just flash this like a normal ROM in .zip format?
I found the links here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559622
Thanks
Yes aradio is the 'phone' part of the phone.
The is no actual need to update a radio but sometimes it can give a better service (better internet connection for example, or maybe better signal)
yes radios are flashed the same way as a rom, jus flash the .zip over the rom, DO NOT WIPE like you do with a rom.
And always do a nandroid backup before flashing.
Also be sure the radio is compatible with your phone. (check is GSM not CDMA)
Yeah I took a chance and just flashed it (did a Nandroid back up first of course )
I was worried as hell at first, because that weird logo came on like the phone coming out of the box, and then it was rebooting for ages
Haven't really noticed any signal increases, but I guess it can't do any worse can it!

[Q] Help With Placing Rom Over New Update

Okay, I apologize if this thread is posted somewhere else on here, but this is my problem. I have a HTC Thunderbolt, rooted with the new update (1.70.605.0) prevent the frequent reboots. But now that I’ve put the update on there, if I flash a custom rom it automatically removes the update, putting me back with the rebooting issues again. So, to get to the point, is there a way to flash a custom rom but yet keep the new update?
You have to flash a ROM based on that update. Look in the descriptions of the ROM's to find out if it is or not.
I've been looking almost everywhere, and I don't think there's a rom that fits those specs out.
The very action of flashing a ROM is to replace the current one. To give some clarity: there are 3 pieces of software that the phone requires. A radio, hboot, and an OS; usually called a ROM. Your update included a radio which was the reason for the reboots. Any ROM that will work with That radio should yield performance equal to or better than what you have.
I'm sorry I'm kinda new to this all that's why I seem kinda lost. But basically all I need to do, is put the root in, den flash the radio that came with the update?
I'm sorry i worded that all wrong. The only thing that the rom with the update comes with is, busybox and deodexed. It also comes with the 1.70.605.0 radio. Say if i flashed the thunderbolt rom in my phone. After installing it, will it do away with that radio and update or will it remain in there. If not, if i flashed the updated radio with the thunderbolt rom will it pretty much be the same as the update and keep me from having unwanted reboots?
Radios are not included with a ROM. Only the kernel and the ROM change when you flash a ROM.
ROM's are flashed in recovery, Radio's are flashed from the root of your SD card using HBOOT. You get to hboot by powering off your phone, or just do a battery pull, then hold the Volume down button while powering on the phone.
Just make sure that the radio can be used on the ROM. The original post of any ROM thread will list the recommend radio(s) to use.

Okay, thanks for all the help. Last question, after the putting a rom in with the ota update in. I flashed to another rom, but once i did that the ota update was no longer there, so i tried the update while running the custom rom and it wouldnt go through leaving me withe the old ota. is there a way to still put the update on after flashing?

Wish to try another radio

I'm using Neutrino 2.2 with stock N_01.100.00R radio.
As I understand different radios may have a different impact on the battery life.
So I'd like to try another radio.
Two questions arise:
1. Can I backup my current radio? I have ROM Manager installed and cannot understand if my radio is also preserved?
2. Could you recommend a radio which doesn't eat out the battery?
Thanks.
Just download a flashable zip of your current radio and keep it on your SDcard.

So I understand it this way: ROM Manager & CWM don't backup radios?
I know only the version of my radio and not sure about origin. Is it European or other?
Is it possible to download the radio image from the phone directly with "fastboot" or anything else?
Thanks.

I do not know how to extract/pull the radio.img from the phone. What most people do is just put the radios they want to flash on their SDCards, then just be sure to wipe Dalvik and cache before flashing each one. I have an AT&T Atrix, so I can't advise on best radio for you to try.
You can find radio.img files and flash from fastboot, but you will have to search for them.
There is a problem that I don't know the exact version of my radio.
It's N_100, but either European, Asian or else?
I'd like to same a copy of my original radio for backup if any attempts with new radios would fail.

Nandroid and baseband.

Ok i tried to do my homework first but I am not completely sure for my given situation......
I made a nandroid backup using VRALJB. updated baseband to VRAMC3.
Questions:
can i flash to the nandroid backup i made using VRALJB?
Or will it not work because baseband is different?
What is are my options to flash back to the nandroid made with VRALJB?
Would it be a good (or even possible) option to... flash baseband back to VRALJB .......flash back to that nandroid backup.....flash back to VRAMC3.... then make a new nandroid on the new baseband?
Sorry if these questions are very basic or if i am not grasping simple problems.. trying to get the hang of this. Most of the threads i read are about other phones and i did not see one that even had the same problem.

The libs are not compatible. If you flash back you will be on VRALJB. To be able to use the VRAMC3 you need a C3 compatible rom. Suggestion. Wipe, install a C3 compatible or C3 rom and re-setup your device. Also make sure if you use a C3 rom, update your radios to C3.

I believe the baseband/modems are independent of the ROM. I understand VZW packages them so that they install together but when I updated to Jelly Bean 4.1.2 as an unlocked bootloader user, I was still using the I605VRAL4 baseband/modem before I performed a second flash to install I605VRAC3.
Check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2108510 as you will be presented with the 3 available baseband/modem options to flash. Post 14 of this thread is the OP indicating that he has flashed back and forth between JB and L4 baseband/modems without any negative side affects.

You are correct on the radio being independent of the rom but it all depends on if the OP used the feature in his recovery to back up the radio with his rom. If he backed up the radio then when he uses his nandroid it will put him back on the older radio but he can flash the new one again and will be golden.
OP, if you backed up the radio/modem with your rom in you nandroid the when you use that nandroid to go back you will be on the older radio. If you didnt back up your radio/modem with the rom in the nandroid then you will still be on the newest radio when you go back. Even if you did back up the radio in your nandroid it wont really matter, all you'd have to do is reflash it once you go back ti that nandroid. It isnt really a big deal and won't cause you any issues.
